So. Calif. Fall RU 2009

San Diego, CA(Zone 10b)

I know Louise...it's a bummer I can't come! But it's too far for me... : (

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Chuck, I'm glad you are going to the RU!
My yellow scabiosa never germinated either.
Maybe you can move out here to Menifee, lots of great places with space. I think the one across the road is still for sell.
Rob, you, me and DP, might have to have a pity party that day. I am bummed too. : - (
I am trying to root you some strawberry bushes from some cuttings I took recently. (From Julie's Branch).
I'll let you know how that works out. Glad you are back from Brazil, we missed you. : - )
SoCal, hope that you have a wonderful vacation. Can't wait to see the photos!

Great news for me!!! DGDs Birthday party is gonna be on Sunday the 27th. I'll be at the RU..WOOHOO. I'm so jazzed!! Now I've gotta start putting things together. OK on to the plant thread to update my list.

No Central, AZ(Zone 7b)

Rob, if you want to drive partway up (few miles north of Temecula) I will drive from here, that way you can go and not have to drive the full distance.

Lynda

No. San Diego Co., CA(Zone 10b)

LOL, great minds think alike - I tried that one, too, Lynda! Roberta is 'otherwise engaged' that day. ^_^

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

You guys, my life has been so nuts lately, and I have had something to do with every week end for weeks, so was not completely sure that I was going to be able to come.

I think that day will be fine, but that is why I have not signed up for anything yet, food or plant wise. It seems like there is something else, that I am obligated to do that week, that I can not remember, so I am going to be a fence sitter for another week before the firm rsvp comes in, if that is alright, WEEGY?

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

That's just fine Dawn. Just let us know. Hope you can make it though.

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

Donna's computer is in the shop, bad virus. She says she should have it back by Thursday evening and will touch bases with us then.
It's getting close guys, so looking forward to seeing everyone!

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

My address is in the first post here in case anyone needs it. It looks like it's going to be a warm day so dress cool!

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

Just wanted to remind you about the white elephant trade, bring something wrapped, doesn't have to be new or expensive if you want to join in on that! It's always fun to see what you might end up with.

Huntington Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

I'm back on line again!!!!!!! This is the first place I've been, haven't even check my personal emails yet. lol Woo Hoo...boy was I having withdrawals. lol
The computer guru who fixed us up was very helpful in getting this back to us ASAP. We told them how I needed to come here to be part of this RU party. lol

Thanks Louise for letting everyone know that I was offline for several days.

So, is everyone ready to have a lovely day? Any questions that need answering? I look forward to seeing you all real soon.

Donna

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

Hey there Donna. It's good to have you back. Looking forward to seeing you again. The ORIGINAL SoCal. LOL

No Central, AZ(Zone 7b)

Being as how the temp is supposed to be 104 there tomorrow, I don't suppose we will do slip n slide or anything? Is there much shade? I keep my beach umbrellas in the trunk....

No. San Diego Co., CA(Zone 10b)

I'm wearing a big hat! Since there won't be that many of us, I think there will be enough shade. You'll enjoy Weegy's garden, too!

Gilroy (Sunset Z14), CA(Zone 9a)

Have a wonderful time, y'all----wish I could step into the transporter and have Scotty beam me down to join you!

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

There will be shade and we'll definitely have the misters going, with them on, it's not bad at all.
Thanks Kathleen, this is the ugliest time of year in my yard though.
See you all tomorrow, looking forward to it!!!

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Guys, I am just not going to be able to come. Actually I could but with me having to go through one more weekend not knowing if I will have a job with the new NASA contractor, I just can not be a very good choice in company at the moment. Sorry. Thanks for doing it though Weegy, that is so nice of you and you will all have fun. As usual I don't have a lot to trade anyhow!!
Dawn

No Central, AZ(Zone 7b)

Well, with 104 predicted for tomorrow, there, and knowing that we don't go outside here when it is that hot or 10 degrees less, I am getting some flack from DH. I would not need to think about warming my tart up - just place it on the driveway in foil! Misters sound good, we have them set up for our horses as they are the only ones moving outside before 6pm on these days.

Hope to make it, but I will post or Dmail if we can't make it.

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Louise's yard is really shady and cool. I went there one time when it was hot outside, but it was fine there. If that helps.

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

Thanks for letting us know Dawn, I'll miss you. Quilty, I understand if you can't make it. The misters on the patio make a big difference if that helps.
I can't believe that is this hot right now...of all weekends! (The evenings are really nice!)
Dawn, Marie says hello, she's spending the weekend with Rodica here.

No. San Diego Co., CA(Zone 10b)

Well, one nice thing about the heat here, is the low humidity (though that has its own dangers). I've been able to go outside and actually do something the last week or so, where that wasn't possible with the last heat wave. Quilty, do you have those cool-ties? They save my life in this heat if I want to go outside.

Orange, CA(Zone 10b)

I won't make it today. Started out at 11:30...got as far as freeway 57 and 60 and my car was shaking/vibrating so badly that I had to get off the freeway. Apparently, it's my alignment...and tires are a tad too worn. Had to drive back home really slowly. It seems ok if I don't go faster than 50 mph.

I'm sorry I couldn't make it. Wish I had a number to call.

Now I have a platterful of lemongrass chicken kebabs and a tub of rice. Guess what the family is having for dinner....

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

I just had a fantastic day today. The group at our Round up was such a mix of characters, old and young, men and women, funny and serious and each a jewel to spend time with. I feel so honored to call each of you my friend.

A big thank you to our hostess Louise, (Weegy12 for those who don't know) to rodicap and Marie for traveling so far and working to set up the place and to Donna for helping to organize and just being there and keeping us all laughing.

I owe a personal thanks to Louise, Marie, Mike, Donna and Kathleen (hope I didn't miss anyone) for plants I brought home. I'm starting a DG garden at work on Monday. I have a 4 X 20 bed being dedicated to holding only plants I've gotten from fellow DGers.

Great food, great friends and MAN what a great time!!
Randy

Gilroy (Sunset Z14), CA(Zone 9a)

DP, what a super idea! I'd love to share something you can include---it will be my thank you for that muffin recipe.
I'm looking forward to the photo thread from the RU!

No. San Diego Co., CA(Zone 10b)

Poor Quyen! I'm sorry you had that bad experience - that type of thing can be so scary!

We had a great time and it was a treat to see everyone after a long dry spell. I'll add my thanks to Louise, Rodica, and Marie for doing the grunt work. DH says to add that all the food was very, very good! Thanks also to all my plant givers. Tomorrow will be a busy day down at the pond!

BTW, we had a quick run home and it was 83 degrees/40% humidity when we arrived a little after 5pm. What a change from the last week.

No Central, AZ(Zone 7b)

My BTW, its 84 degrees/20% humidity in WIldomar at 7:50 PM.

Also a BIG THANK YOU to our great hostess, Louise and Rodica & Marie and also to Donna for getting this event set up. Thanks to those from whom I ended up getting plants and bulbs (calla lilies, Watsonia, & rain lilies). I will need to look them all up so I know best how to care for them.

It was so great to get to visit with you all in person! What a fun time. Louise, I can't believe that a couple posts back you said this was the ugliest time of year in your yard. I want pictures in the prettiest time of year, because I just loved your yard!

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Marie and Rodicia,a big thank you for all you did with Louise to make it such a very special time. Randy....Motley crew, hummmm, when I saw the pic of myself in the photo with my hair in it's nautral color (first time in 10 + years) I thought , golly maybe I should have stuck with the red hair I'd had. Man am I getting old or what? OH Well that much closer to retirement and more gardening and more R.U's. Let me say how much I so appreciated meeting you all.

A couple of you asked about the Tomato Tart I brought, so here is the recipe I used fro the internet:

http://www.ezrapoundcake.com/archives/3547

Since I LOVE garlic, instead of the med. clove they called for, I used a clove of elephant garlic! LOL, when I make it again, I will use more than the recipe calls for, but less than elephant clove. I also used more basil, not measuring, so the crust was greener. I would do that again. The recipe only calls for one layer of tomatoes and, when it was in the oven, that did not seem like enough, so I added another tomato. Next time I will add even more tomatoes because that was the whole point, duh - tomato tart. Hopefully it will not be soggy as the recipe some of you described having used.

Huntington Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Good morning everyone,

Another great RU for sure. Although it was a smaller group, it was so nice to be able to chat with everyone and also have time to play with little Emma and all the cute doggies. lol

Quyen, I am so sorry you had car troubles. We sure missed you and your great food. I know your family enjoyed all your work that evening.

Sylvia, I am so glad you enjoyed yourself and we all enjoyed meeting you and your DH. Thank you for coming and we all look forward to chatting with you on DG.

Louise, thank you my dear friend for offering your lovely home for our RU this time. We all enjoyed digging in your garden, feeding your fish and playing with your dogs.

Marie and Rodica, you are just like Jo, if there is a RU somewhere close, you come. lol Thank you both for helping Louise set up for our gathering.

Oh, I almost forgot to mention our surprise guest....Arlene, Twin Lake Chef showed up and surprised us all. She had to come out here earlier than expected and was able to come to our gathering. Thank you to the airlines. lol

To everyone else, thank you for making our RU enjoyable again. It is so nice to spend some quality time with our DG garden friends.

We usually have our RU in the Spring. I would like to have everyone keep their thinking caps on and look for a nice park for next year. It will need to have bathroom facilities, tables and some shade.....also needs to be reasonably priced. lol

After I left Louise's, I drove Arlene home and we sat on her back patio for several hours just chatting away. What a lovely evening it was too. I finally had to leave as my eyes were trying to close and I still had to drive home.

A day with so many great friends......PRICELESS!!!!!

Thank you all,
Donna

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

I agree Donna...Priceless. It's always great to meet the new friends we've made here in person.
I just took Marie and Rodica to the airport...thank you so much to both of them, first for putting up with me and second and more importantly, helping me get everything together. You both are more of a help to me than you'll ever know.

I thank everyone for the wonderful food we ate. Randy, the biscuits, muffins and jam were absolutely delicious. We had the jam on our pancakes this morning.

I meant to mention yesterday that the chicken wings were in a honey BBQ sauce that SW and her dh gave to us when we visited, thank you to them for that, I won't buy any other BBQ sauce.

Arlene, the curried lamb was delectable..I have requests for the recipe!

Kathleen, your dessert was incredible, my aunt did leave me some!

Rodica, the leek tart...you know I love it.

Linda, the tomato tart...yummy!

Thank you all for providing such wonderful dishes.

Sylvia and Rob, Linda and Tony, Pegi and Darwin and Randy...so wonderful to have you here, to meet you and to spend some time with you although not enough time to spend with you. Linda, thank you for the advice on the quilt...one of these days I'll be able to post the finished product!

Donna, Mike, Arlene, so very good to see you again! Thanks for everything!

I hope everyone enjoyed the day as much as I did, it was a little warm but who cares!!!

Again, thank you all for making this little RU a success and I hope to see EVERYONE very soon. If I missed anyone, forgive me.

Thank you also to all who brought plants and seeds to me. I appreciate all of them!

Hugs to all.

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Sounded fun and delicious

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9b)

Hi everybody.

I just got home and I hope Marie is home too .
I can not tell you how much I enjoyed seeing all of you ,meeting old friend and making new ones. It was fantastic and for this I have to thanks Louise and Tony. Louise you are awesome and I had a great time hanging out with you and Marie. I could not ask for better company and friends. The only way you could have made it better, it
would have been if you would have let Misty come to visit with me. :O)
Thanks everybody for the wonderful plants. Kathellen for your chamomile, Mike for your Watsonias and Donna for my Ichroma and gerranium. I wish I could have taken more , but when one flies there is just so much baggage you can take and I had a mean male stewardess, sorry , flight attendant that even though there were several people that had more than two bags, he singled me and I was not happy.
I am hoping that someday, some of you will come to our swap parties.
Here are some pictures from the gathering.
