For the love of amphibians!

Dumb question: If I have a lined pond, where will my frogs go once it's too cold in the pond for them? I have stones all around the pond edge so not much in the line of dirt for them to dig in to. I think it's cold now but still find them sunning themselves in the afternoon.

Mine burrow into the ground in the area around the pond, I believe.

I found a big one hiding under some leaves again today. I left the pile and will clean it in the spring I guess. He looked so comfy!

I found one little tree frog burrowed down in the dirt at the back edge of a flowerbed.

Talking frogs..my partner loves green tree frogs and we have heaps at home.
Meanwhile the blue wrens build a nest in a low tree right near our door and layed eggs.
One night we saw something hanging out of the frogs mouth..guess what no more mother blue wren and cold dead eggs. boohoo!

With sadness, I report finding something interesting in the freezer, on top of an ice
cube tray. Yes, it was a tiny tree frog. Apparently sometime during better weather,
he came into the house. How he hopped into the freezer without detection, I'll never
know. Rather odd find.

You don't have children who might've thought he should hibernate in there, or to play a prank, do you?

Poor little fella. :(

JLJ, no, all of my family knows that frogs are very important.
It was just a bad day for the little booger. Wrong place at the
wrong time.

My mother used to love frogs until she was standing next to her neighbor's pond, watching a little goldfinch just hanging out on the rock. All of a sudden, this giant frog jumped out of the water, grabbed the bird and took it to the bottom of the pond. All mom saw was a wing sticking out of his mouth. She said if it had been her pond, she would have drained it and killed that frog! I'm like "mom, it the cycle of life". She said she knows, she just doesn't want to see the cycle! LOL

I have to add Blue to the pictures here. A friend gave him to me recently because she was moving to Colorado. He is a Green frog with some kind of mutant gene that makes him "blue" This pic was just after releasing him after his trip to my house, so he's a little pale. In the Spring he should be a nice deep blue.

Look who showed up today. Guess he thought it was spring with the temps in the high 40's. Silly but a very nice surprise.

What a great day when you have a visitor like that! I am so excited
for spring to come, I have dearly missed the frog calls,.

Bea, have been meaning to ask, what kind of camera do you have?
Mine seems to be on the downhill slide. It is rare these days I can
get a focused and clear shot. :-(

I have a Sony Cybershot DSC-H2. I have really enjoyed this camera. My daughter received a Nikon D90 as a graduation present from her Uncle in November. (great camera and wonderful Uncle!)

Looking forward to the frogs return and spring to come. :)
