Its hard to see in the picture but this guy was lying on a bed of hyacinth roots.
For the love of amphibians!
He looks smug... hehe. Is that a second frog on the left, on the hyacinth?
Acris crepitans blanchardi - formerly referred to as Blanchard's
Cricket Frog, a.k.a. Acris crepitans crepitans - Eastern Cricket Frog.
A tiny little fellow with an interesting sound similar (at least to me) to
that of a ping pong ball being dropped on a hard surface once, then
twice, three times and such, then progressively faster until the sounds
blend together. Note the tell-tale triangle on it's head.
Wuvie, he's a cutie- extra bumpy! :)
Wuvie..your Eastern cricket frog is cool. Love the triangle and his banded legs & toes.
Pony..he is a cute little one. He looks a bit worried.
What a beauty! Pretty markings on him/her.
Oh wow... polka-dotted splendor!
Daaaaang. Good thing frogs don't wear pantyhose- she'd never find any long enough! ;D
Awww! So cute! :D
I just found a teeeeeny tiny tree frog when I was watering, but got no pics, he skedaddled deep into the laurel hedge. I'm happy to know he's there, though. :)
Pony - your pics are great - but what is that cute little plant in many of your pictures with tiny leaves? Please don't tell me it's mosiac plant - I bought some and when I had my racoon attack they all disappeared and it was my favorite water plant. They seem fragile and so they were shredded, I guess along with my water clover and several other plants. Do you know what it is? Thanks.
Hi TX, I hope Pony doesn't mind me answering for her.
I believe you are referring to Lemna minor, also known as
Common Duckweed.

:-) KM
If it's the smooth light green leaves you are referring to, Wuvie nailed it; duckweed. If it's the velvety looking dark green, it's fairy moss.
Thanks Wuvie - I had some (not much) duckweed and the fish ate it all - like candy to them. I think Pony's right that I'm referring to the fairy moss. Does anyone have a link to fairy moss? I'm sure it has more names - anyway, I want them both - I don't know why but I just love floating plants - so pretty, not to mention easy (my favorite attribute) just toss 'em in and they multiply if the fish are well fed.
The DG info page is here: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/64246/
I got mine at a local pond supply store, she just threw a couple handfuls in with the other stuff I bought. If you don't have a pond supply place near you, just google "azolla" or "fairy moss" and you'll find places you can order it online. :)
I haven't seen a frog all day- guess they're hunkered down trying to keep warm somewhere. (I hope- I always worry about birds getting them... eek.)
Pony - Is that a leopard frog?
That little guy is a Cascades frog, as far as I can tell.
He's very handsome.
That's a great shot of the three frogs !
Love his little nubby toes! So cute!
Bahahaha! The one of all three on the glass is priceless! :D
This funny-shaped little guy is an Eastern Narrow-Mouthed
gastrophryne Carolinensis. There seems to be misleading information
on whether it is a toad or a frog in some sources.
They hide during the day so as not be eaten by bullfrogs, egrets and
snakes. If the poor little guy is eaten, he emits a foul substance. If
he must go, he's not going without a stink, not to mention a bad taste.
The females lay five hundred eggs. Wow.
"The females lay five hundred eggs."
I'd be plump in the middle, too! LOL
