Thought maybe everyone might be confused with the different name on this thread..so renaming it...

Good afternoon all from the Best Western Suites at Opryland..

Travel went fantastic, left Bonnie's few minutes before 8..travelled until we saw birthplace of Abraham Lincoln so off route we went..probably 15 or 20 miles...his birth town is just too adorable..of course a lovely circle of stores/museum..one is quite country and is to die for..had to slap my fingers a few times...

Got some photo's ...

Debbie's feet are so swollen and painful..she's laying down with legs up, hoping that the swelling comes down so we can go see a few things before the Grand Ole Opry at 7pm tonight..tickets already bought and we have a gentleman picking us up at the hotel and taking us across the street to the Opry..omg it's so grown since last I've been here..amazed at the growth..

The hotel room is a suite, omg, living room area, kitchen capabilities, not that either of us are cooking..

So everything is going according to hoyle except of course Debbie's poor legs..and we are right on schedule..imagine that..must be good planning..

So funny, everyone around me has accents and yet when I talk Debbie has to act as interpretor from time to time...

This morning in the Lincoln town Elizabethville we're crossing the street and a man and a lady are driving the circle, she yells out that she loves my outfit and what a pretty lady I am..blind they are but shucks what a friendly bunch..love Ohio people..maybe I should relocate..lol

Computer in hotel lobby, pool outside, who knows might go sit there while Debbie rests...

Hows the trip going so far...A-ok

Hoping you are all ok...

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

LOL lemons good with a pound of sugar!

Oh I am sooooooo jealous, I've never been able to stay at Opryland Hotel Man!! And the Grand Ole Opry, haven't done that since I was 13. I am so glad you're able to see it, there is so much to see and do and tour there you'll never fit it in in one week, let alone one day. I hope hope hope Debbie's legs and feet get better so she can enjoy her evening.

Betty there are storms headed your way, there supposed to be severe here this evening into tonight all the way East of Memphis, but they're not saying anything beyond that. Just FYI keep an eye on the local tv stations and radio.

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

The lemons that Liz has barely need any sugar...they are the most fantastic lemons I have ever had!!

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Betty, if you were in Lincoln's birthplace, and if you stayed with Bonnie, you were in Kentucky, darlin', not Ohio. LOL, you must really be tired. At least I hope you are in Nashville, TN.....

Enjoy, looking forward to Monday!

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

I bet they liked Kentucky, beautiful country there.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Drats Shar, glad you are around to keep me straight..yes indeed it was Kentucky, have trouble between Ohio and Kentucy..

Just got back from Opry..thought I'd check in Crissy..hear about the bad weather in Memphis and knowing how storms get to you, sure don't want you to be travelling in it..

If for any reason you think it best NOT to meet us in Memphis we'll understand...
Will watch the weather as well and see what tomorrow morning brings...

Best of the day...Opry show
Worse..poor Debbie having problems with her feet
What did I learn...didn't learn it yet, just trying to figure out if I've enough energy to go to the Midnight Jamboree..lol..

God willing, we'll gab tomorrow

Just wanted to say good morning to all and I need to get in the shower! I'm going to call Debbie's cell phone and make sure she's alright. The weather will be fine, that was the front that passed over me yesterday morning, thought it was but the national weather kept saying we were going to get more yesterday evening, I kept watching radar and the storm kept moving through Tennessee with nothing behind it. At the house here we got another 2 inches of rain yesterday morning.

Hello To All;

Congratulations Judy on the new baby! Send us a pic of her....she is the same type birdie as your other new one, right?
You are meeting up with the other folks aren't you?

Yes - You're right....I can still help...and it had to be passed on if it's going to have any longevity...

Deb - you take care..I wish I had some advice for you....I suppose While Betty's driving you could sit in the back with your feet elevated....

Betty - We're gonna have to chip in & get you a laptop for your next trip....we need to get you more computer time!

Tell those businessmen waiting in line at the hotel...that this is more important!

Tubby - Glad to hear from you....

Liz - what do you have planned in Chicago? I lived there a VERY short time right after college...back in '87...I remember checking out the museums, a Cubs game at Wrigley...

Well - I drove my DS down to New Orleans to visit with his 22 year old half-brother....we had sushi with Blaine and his Mom, Joy who we love...they were 'our evacuee's' during Katrina...which drew us closer.... (Almost everyone you knew in Baton Rouge had "their own evacuee's" after Katrina)

DS comes back Wednesday...school starts Friday.

Today was our 7th anniversary...so DH & I went to a nice dinner out tonight...he bought me perfume which proves that he DOES ACTUALLY LISTEN to my "hints"....

I'll be back in a bit....

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Good morning everyone! Late start but I am here.
I have the soaker hose turned on for the garden, and it is doing so much better, than watering with a regular hose. Guess it needs the deep soaking that it is getting.
Betty, we are all waiting for the trip details, and pictures!
Tubby, that was very nice, I enjoyed reading that, and it is sooo true!
Hope your doing OK?
Mary, how are you doing?

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Hi Everyone!! I'm home, got here at 3:30. I was supposed to post when I got home but had to unpack and start laundry, you know...plus it's taken me an hour to just type this up.

Oh I just LOVE Betty and Debbie! I am so glad I took the day off to drive the short 3 hours to meet them. Betty had me for the Flat Envie swap so I got goodies I have to unpack and take pictures of to post tomorrow or the next day, had a great time!

LMBO Betty!!! LOL LOL LOL Now for the rest of the story...

We ...eventually... (lol) Betty and Debbie called me, said they having tire trouble and was going to find a Wal Mart nearby and they were 45 miles or minutes, I don't remember, out. I was in the hotel room (on the east side of town) and thought that since they were going to do that I would drive the 12 miles to downtown and get familiar so I can just drive right to a restaurant. As I was almost downtown Debbie called and said they were at exit 15, the hotel was at exit 12. I think I was about exit 6. I took the exit and got back on the freeway and met them at the hotel. They hadn't stopped to get the tire, so we sat up in the hotel room and chatted for awhile, then it was 5pm and we decided that if we were going to Wal Mart we should get going. I was going to follow Betty but she took off like a wild woman (lol) Anyway, after her getting somewhat lost and us getting somewhat lost we finally found each other. We had 2 hours to drive somewhere to eat, her car was going to take until 7 when they closed, so off we went.

I drove to downtown Memphis, exit 2, and took them to Beale St. I knew I was going to be pressed for time but knew I could haul back, it's only 18 miles, right, speed limit's 65, which means I can go 75, right?? I HAD to have Betty and Debbie have Memphis BBQ, there's nothing like it. It took awhile to find a parking place as you have to park in a garage and I couldn't find the garage me and Dave parked in a couple weeks ago. Finally found one up the road, so Debbie had to walk and that's exactly what I was trying to avoid. I noticed right on the corner of Beale and something else there's the Blues and BBQ Cafe. Fast and Good. OMG was it good, I'll be going back there again.

Anyway, we got a seat, ate, and left in 30 minutes flat, I have 30 minutes to find my way out of downtown and back on the freeway, asked the girl at the parking garage and she knew exactly. We're back on the freeway and I'm moving, I mean the CA driving came out big time. I'm going in and out and in and out of traffic, again used to it because of being in CA so many years, everybody drives like that, you just have to make sure you know where every car around you is all the time, plus watch for cops. Poor Debbie in the backseat and Betty up front both about to have heart attacks, but we made it with 5 minutes to spare.

They did ride with me today and no, I don't drive like that normally, but yes I think this is NASCAR and I'm going to win millions! LOL!!!

Dave has taught me to use the 'front door' method, and it works. I decided to practice driving how he drives:

When traveling long distances (more than 15 minutes on the freeway) find a front door (drive slow and someone driving as fast as you want to drive will pass you, keep up with them just far enough away you can see their tail lights if they hit their brakes.) Personally, I like to drive between 75 and 79, get in the fast lane and stay there unless there's a big gap in cars/trucks in the slow lane. The speed limits on the interstates in AR are 70, so 79's good, if you go 80 you'll get a ticket.

I found a front door just west of West Memphis, a black Ford Escape. It didn't last very long, there was another black SUV going about 90, so she decided to run with that one and I don't like going 90, I did keep them in sights for a long time as they kept getting stuck behind big rigs.

After about an hour of driving 75 and getting quite bored with it, here comes this New, Red, Mitsubishi Eclipse with Tennessee plates just hauling. Oh Yay Yay Yay Front Door, finally!! I decided to keep up with him/her, going 85, still too fast for me but oh well, we can do this for a few minutes anyway.

He started going about 90 and I had decided to let him go, then we came upon some road construction so I caught back up to him in the stopped traffic.

Got to a town called Lonoke, we were starting to pick up speed again from the construction and someone coming from the opposite direction flashed their high beams, which means "cops sitting with radar ahead." We kept the speed down to 75 for about 8 minutes (yes I keep track of that) then we were in traffic but back up to 80.

We're 35 miles east of Little Rock there's a bunch of trees in the median, still in traffic doing 80, 2 lane freeway, I see a cops hood sticking out of some bushes, red Eclipse directly in front of me. I look down and yup, 80mph on the nose, Crap, one measly mile too fast!!

See cop pulling out, Eclipse goes around a couple big rigs at 75mph, I follow, and we both pull into the slow lane and slow to 72ish, I left about 1 1/2 cars length in front of me to him. I know one of us is getting pulled over, 50% chance it's the red sports car and not the white crossover, let's see how statistics work here. Cop goes around me, changes lanes in front of me and pulls over red Eclipse. Whew!! Oh I felt bad but that's the way it's worked, he decided to go that fast, I just decided to tag along for the ride. I'd rather get a ticket doing 80 in a 70 instead of 90 in a 70.

I'll post pictures hopefully tomorrow if I have time at work.

Liz I'm betting you're having the time of your life, and it's going to get better...

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Crissy, what time did they leave Memphis? And is Memphis Central Daylight time or Eastern?

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Memphis is Central Daylight Time and they left probably at noon, they said they wouldn't be to your house until 7ish. I meant to post it earlier and got sidetracked by my mom calling to make sure I made it home ok.

Betty got me into Old Tyme Pottery, I don't know if there are any there but OMG it was the most wonderful shopping experience I have ever had! I took pictures of the goodies I bought for a total of $60.00, I'll hopefully be able to post those pictures tomorrow too!

Hello there, I've been missing you all...will enjoy getting home on the weekend so I can visit with you all..

We enjoyed our trip north, omg saw a thermometer and it read 99 degrees not counting in humidity factor..

Did some sight seeing and arrived here at 6:45 .. right on time..

Shar's home is beautiful as is Shar..got to tell you meeting these lovely ladies has been a thrill..

I'm quite tired tonight and although I should stay and chat I'll call it a night...

Best of the day...meeting yet another DG friend (Shar)
Worse of the day..not really bad, just the high humidity (used to cold country)
What did I learn...found it interesting that my trip here much of the area was deserted, guess it's because of the weather..where I stay in during winter time, people here stay in during hot summer days....

Good Lord willing, we'll gab tomorrow!

Smile "Cute"

5 year old's first job

Here's a truly heartwarming story about the bond formed between a little
5-year-old girl and some construction workers that will make you believe
that we all can make a difference when we give a child the gift of our
time.

A young family moved into a house, next to a vacant lot. One day, a
Construction crew turned up to start building a house on the empty lot.

The young family's 5-year-old daughter naturally took an interest in all
the activity going on next door and spent much of each day observing the workers.

Eventually the construction crew, all of them "gems-in-the-rough," more or less, adopted her as a kind of project mascot. They chatted with her, let her sit with them while they had coffee and lunch breaks, and gave her 20 little jobs to do here and there to make her feel important.

At the end of the first week, they even presented her with a pay envelope
containing ten dollars. The little girl took this home to her mother who
suggested that she take her ten dollars "pay" she'd received to the bank
the next day to start a savings account.

When the girl and her mom got to the bank, the teller was equally impressed and asked the little girl how she had come by her very own pay check at such a young age. The little girl proudly replied,
"I worked last week with a real construction crew building the new house next door to us."

"Oh my goodness gracious," said the teller, "and will you be working on the house again this week, too?"

The little girl replied, "I will, if those dumb butts at Home Depot ever deliver the darn sheet rock..."

Kind of brings a tear to the eye - doesn't it..

One more Smile

Send someone over quickly", the old woman screamed into the phone. "Two naked bikers are climbing up toward my bedroom window."

"This is the Fire Department, lady," the voice replied. "I'll have to transfer you to the Police Department."

"No, it's you I want," she yelled. "They need a longer ladder!"

Opps forgot..

A morning SMILE

One day my housework-challenged husband decided to wash his sweat-shirt seconds after he stepped into the laundry room, he shouted to me,
'What setting do I use on the washing machine?'

'It depends,' I replied. 'What does it say on your shirt?'

He yelled back, ' University of Oklahoma '

And they say blondes are dumb...
