Hello Crissy! Yah, keep on stuffing.... as long as you can close it shut!
No problemo Cody, do it the following day. This evening we're off to a church sister's place to pick up more blueberries. Mine are all finished, and the neighbour's kids want more.
Note to self.. bring along mosquito off.
Got your mum's room, ready Susan? I bet you both won't be sleeping much the first day!
Pegi, too bad on the water restrictions. Some ingenious Aussies have taken advantage of their washing machine's rinse water. They rigged the hoses to drain to water barrels. I wonder sometimes if the detergent can be harmful, but then sometimes I use soapy water instead of chemical laced insecticides.

Hey Jaye - well, my mom's room is ready except for the inflatable queen-size beds (putting 2 of 'em on top of each other, to approximate the height of a regular bed, so she doesn't have to get "UP" each am!), and I have to hang some curtains.
My DD seems to think that someone would look in. We're on a hill overhang, so there are no taller buildings closer than 2 miles away, and everyone else waaaaaaaay below us, and can't see up (kinda hard, our garden sheds cover 1/2 of the window anyway lol) My mom loves the view, so we don't want to cover it - however....... my DD WILL ask if I had curtains on the window lol
She doesn't arrive until 9pm Sat, and her sister will be leaving to go to her son's the next day, so I'm guessing we won't get much sleep. Dunno if her sis will be going to church service with us, but my DM will :-)
OH Wow Jaye! I would love to grow ginger!
I suppose it would be an annual where I am. Is it self-seeding, by cutting, or what?
Do Tell!!
You gonna walk with pride, in that church, mum next to you!
Where does your DD gets her paranoia from?
Kel was like that when I first came. His mum got his mind all screwed up with 'conspiracy theories' and Big Brother.. it took him a year to let live!!! We live kinda isolated anyway... with the occasional deers grazing in our front yard.
Seeds are almost impossible to germinate. Better by dividing the rhizomes.
I've known of friends in zone 5 that grow them in pots. Is Indiana zone 5?
You could try Susan.
Oh good grief Jaye, now that's desperate! CA has water restrictions every year. Everyone has sprinkler systems or nothing would survive, if you have the means to it's best to put them on an automatic system and water at 2 or 3am.
I can't stuff it anymore, it won't close if I do! LOL I had to put everything in it, then take it out and reorganize it about 4 different times before I got it to close.
Hi everybody. I'm just getting over a touch of pneumonia. Just the edge! Recovery is going fine with the knee.
Audrey
Hey Audrey, good you pop in!
Almost about to post that I had heard from you, but it's better you appear.
Sorry about the bout with pneumonia. Try not to get overheated.
How's your daughter doing?
As you can glance, many elder sistahs too have gone missing.. I must change the carpet, huh?
Crissy.. here's some info on grey water.
http://www.greywater.com/
Jaye, Lisa's on oxygyn full time, now. She spent two weeks with me and we went to a public pool and she went in with her oxygyn on! She loves to swim and we did water aerobics, too, and she liked that. She goes back to work next month, but gets only two days a week. She's filed for disability, but who knows when she'll get it. Right now she's staying with a friend, she couldn't afford rent yet.
Audrey, I'm glad to hear from you! Been missing you girl. Glad the pneumonia's under control, hope you can keep it that way, and knee recovery is going ok too. I'm so sorry about Lisa, but glad she got to go in the pool and do some aerobics. I bet she was very happy about that. Yea, getting disability can be quite the grooling thing to go through.
Please tell Lisa to keep her faith and spirits up.
At least she has you and her friend.
Hello Audrey - we haven't met yet.....my name is Susan (C_Susan to the room, cuz there's so many Susans lol). Glad to meet you.
So sorry to hear about Lisa's troubles however, as Jaye says - she has you!
I'll keep you, and her, in my prayers......
Audrey, so good to see you here! We missed you!
Sorry to hear you have been sick, but you are on the mend now! Sending healing prayers for you!
Jaye, our washing machine is outside on the edge of the patio, and we have been draining the water on the lawn for years. It is the greenest part of the lawn!
Well, slowly but surely the Sistah's are popping in.
I've seen that before LK! It's really weird how the soap doesn't kill it.
I have cherries for anyone who would like some.
So how do you water an extreme sloap and get the water to soak deep into the ground?
Audrey!!! So good to see you back....glad you and Lisa are both doing better...we sure have missed you.
It was 80* at ten this morning ! It was 98* when I passed the bank at two thirty!! Too hot to do anything outside, too hot to do anything inside....we have fans (No A/C)...keep the blinds closed and the fans going, that helps a bit...they say Wednesday and Thursday are going to be our hottest days....Yuuukkk!!
That ginger plant is beautiful. Several years ago a gal gave me a ginger plant that she said came from Hawaii. Well, I put it in the ground and it does nothing. It is still alive, but doesn't grow. I think it is time to take it out of the ground and give it some better soil.
We don't have A/C either, ceiling fans and regular fans that sit on the floor. Too hot outside, too hot inside, I know exactly how you feel Trisha. If I didn't have a ceiling fan in my office there is no way I could sit here on the computer. Late in the evening it is cool, so I should be sitting outside enjoying it.
My mom came out while I was watering and told my DH to take her car to his class tonight...even now it is way too hot to ride a bike down town even if it is only 2 miles. Sure hope I hear something on my car soon....I know we can use mom's whenever we want, but it just isn't the same....
Maybe by the time he gets home, 8:30 or so, it will be cool enough to eat on the patio...
Didn't pick any blueberries.. or huckleberries! Rain when we got there, but spent time just chatting away! Had a very simple supper. Home made biscuits and scrambled eggs. Sometimes that beats gourmet food!
LK, if we have to restrict well water usage, pretty sure we'd be saving our wash and bath water too.
Cody, beautiful blooms. Looks like Hedychium Ayo if I'm not wrong. I can't wait for the rest of my gingers to bloom, but I know it will be another month!
Love cherries Crissy. Thank you.. I can eat them like popcorn!!!
Trisha and Pegi, we are spoiled by airconditioning!! Kel can't make it if the house temperature is not at 68!!!!
Pegi, I 'flood' my gingers now and then, and mist them... to imitate the monsoon climate. That's why they do very well in states with very high humidity.
Well, my ex just called from Houston. His surgery was supposed to be a couple of weeks ago, but they rescheduled it for tomorrow.
Definitely a valve replacement, and he said it won't be a mechanical valve, but a tissue. Kel and I prayed with him over the phone to calm his fears.
Please say a prayer for Harris that his surgery will go well.
Still hot, but cooled down enough to get some water on things....
Jaye, Definitely will keep Harris in our prayers.
Good Evening everyone!
I keep you all in my thoughts, during the day......... hope all your good wishes come true :-)
So what's on the agenda with ev1?
Jaye, Harris is in my prayers as well.
I'm so tired tonight, I think I'm going to go to bed. My phone hasn't rang all day, not even a text! I'm wondering if my phone is working at all.
Just waiting for it too cool down enough to have supper....we are getting record heat for our area this week....they are saying we may go over 100* the next few days....:( My DH even took mom's air conditioned car to his class tonight instead of riding his bike.
My sis called mom tonight while we were outside...she left a message that my nephew Connor got into the Doctor today....they are running some test but think his seizures are being caused by a conflict between some of the medications he is taking. Sure hope they get it sorted out...didn't say how her back was doing, but mom said she sounded better.
I know it’s not super hot for a bunch of you, but it’s in the high 90’s and I’m sticking to my chair (and everything else) and my hair is dripping and I’m miserable. And it’s only supposed to get worse through Wed. I really don’t want to cook, so I’m going to have to try to figure out what will add the least amount of warmth to the air that I can make for dinner.
Jaye, I just about got the blue done on the top yesterday. I should get more done tonight. Right now I’m too warm to want to do anything.
I somewhat agree with your DH. I like it around 70 give or take. We get so little truly hot weather here that we aren’t really prepared for it, same with really snow in the winter. I don’t care about A/C that much, it dries out my sinuses, but I’d kill for a swimming pool or clear lake right about now.
Linda, everything is more or less ok for the moment. I’ve been trying to get on once a day.
Audrey, glad to hear things are going relatively good for you.
Lolol Crissy..... you want your phone to ring? Answer mine!
I've been cradling the phone since my last post.
Harris' sister, his nephews and nieces been playing tag with the phone. Taking turns to assure me that they'll be there for him when he returns home. I had told Harris that if needed, I'll take care of him until he's healed. Apparently his family feels they can do a better job! Jokes aside.. that man is blessed to have family that stands by him.
Oldest nephew is with him right now. VA puts him up in a hotel. He'll stay there till Wednesday and will return to Louisiana. Then when Harris is discharged, VA will buy a plane ticket for his return trip. How nice is that?
I'll definitely let Clyde (nephew) know that you wonderful women will be praying for him too.
Trisha, I don't remember if you had already told us, but how old is Conner? It would be great news if his seizures are caused by meds, praying nothing more serious.
Laura.. you're an innovative cook. Pretty sure you'd come up with some exotic salad or how about chilled soups? Yah, I'll avoid using the stove too when it gets too hot!!! Wait.. I always TRY to stay out of the kitchen!! :D
And how is Miss Sage taking the heat?
It gets so hot here during the day time, that the roads get 'baked' for a long time. This evening, when we got home after the rains...the roads were still steaming!!!
So, to answer your question C_Susan, next on my agenda for this evening will be to read a few pages of the Good News.. and then push Kel (like I could) to his bed!!
Jaye, If I'd thought ahead I'd have made polenta or stuff for a meal salad, unfortunatly the set up for those takes as much heat as a normal meal. Right now I'm thinking of just trying to find something I can stick in the microwave or waiting until very late to eat.
Sage complains a lot, but she doesn't get the physical side effects I get.
Jaye, Conner is early-mid 20's...yes, we do hope it meds and easily dealt with....
Does anyone remember who was looking for a Rhubarb Cream Pie recipe???
Ah yes, thank God for the microwave!
Post it Trisha. It's C_Susan that asked for it.
Rhubarb Cream Pie
2 1/2 Cups Cut up Rhubarb
1 Cup white sugar
3 Tablespoons Flour
1 Cup Cream
1 tsp. Vanilla
Combine all ingredients, bake as a 2 crust pie at 400* for 45 minutes.
There is also a recipe for a Custard Pie and a Crisp...
Question. What does rhubarb tastes like?
Seems that all recipes require rhubarb to be cooked in sugar. It must be sour by itself then?
Read 1 chapter.. eyes are tired. Got to wake up sleeping beauty to send him to bed!!
Good night everyone.. sleep well. See you all in the a.m.
Rhubarb is very tart! if you eat just rhubarb, your mouth will pucker. That is why it is usually cooked with things like strawberries...
Sorry you are having the heat wave, and no A/C. Please be careful!
Good night everyone.....Sleep well.......
I'm talking on the phone with one of i friends Elizabeth from Ohio.We have been talking since before 9:00.She is very sweet.
oh yes, Jaye - rhubarb is Very tart. Altho someone at work says that's the way she always eats it - straight, w/o any sugar....yikes lol
I usually dip it in a saucer of sugar. It's the way I had it as a kid.
I'm going to have to try the Cream Pie. Never had it. Only the Custard Pie.
I have only had Strawberry Rhubarb....I think I may have to try this one too...
It has cooled down to about 86*....I'm not happy, dog isn't happy...may have to get Ice packs out of the freezer tomorrow for the dog and the cat to nap with....
going to make an attempt at getting some sleep....Have a good night everyone.
Good Morning all How is eveyone I have the Morning off today have to go to work at 4 pm till unknown hours of the we Morning so I thought I drop in and say how do. I was looking at my tiny front porch and its so plain I took a picture and wonder if any one could give me an idea to perk it up. I will be runninf=g to the store but have to wait till 8 so I can get some lunch meat so I started on a BIG project my houseplants have mealy bug so I am taking all my plants outside and spray with and oily soap even if they don't have them and cleaning all the container that they are in than in about 7 days I will spray with alcohol stright so I hope that this will work cause I just can't throw them away there is just so many. so we will see Ok hope all have a great day
Good Morning!
Been AWOL trying to keep up with things at home. Had to laugh at you Jaye about stripping to the waist and being in the country. Same thing here. I love the privacy. Couldn't go back to being in a neighborhood. We don't even have drapes here. The people that had the house before us didn't and it just didn't seem necessary. Since I am a little claustraphobic it is nice to not have that closed in feeling.
We finally had rain. Lots of it. About 2 inches in 2 days in pour down and hail mode. Really destroyed the infamous driveway. Guess I will be out shoveling gravel later today.
Gotta run, it is weeding day for clients and I am already way behind because I am still here. :0)
