Mary I received some tropical hibiscus in NEWBIE PACKAGE..
I think I passed them on.They would 't work here//
IF I didn''t they will come to you...
Debbie such a shame Will send T&P
I can swear by the Lye soap...Best stuff I have ever used..
I don't have touch it, just walk past it & I got it..
Betty yes interesting lock..Never been by one or seen one to fully understand how it works
Morning Tubby, so please you got some rest...maybe now you can start gaining some strength..
As for our lock system each is unique in it's own way..
I lived on Little Lake just downstream from the Big Chute..each time we had visitors we'd bring them up the lock to enjoy the experience and then lunch at Severn Falls and back down..couldn't count how many times I've done this lock..in summer when it's good conditions one might have to wait 3 or 4 hrs. to access it....
Here's a little view of the 1st lock..

Good Afternoon!
Tubby, yay,so glad you a got a good rest!
Betty, that is really neat...The loch railway!
Hey where is everyone??? Thought maybe a new thread got started again, lol...
Must be busy and enjoying a beautiful summer day!
LOLOL...Skittles caught and ate a tiny flybug, oh she thought she was just the coolest hunter, OK...it is official she is talking! Julia with the supersonic ear has confirmed...She says hello - pretty bird. added to her diet, lol beside flybug, potatoe, egg shell
Oh mary, so glad to hear when freshman join the marching band! How exciting for your DS to take on the four drums! You know it is so cool that these kids learn the entire reoutine in what 2-3 weeks. They work really hard, I miss being a band mom, going to try and talk Breenie into Color Gaurd, I think that what the are called, i really think she would like it...dunno just couldn't get into anything last year.
Anyway i sure hope you and DS really have a ball with marching band.
I am glad to hear you are so Happy with your new job! So yaya, good for you!
Had a busy Morning, running around, filling out school stuff and few things for Steve, started gathering our stuff to pack...
Debbie, been thinking about you, How are you doing?
Crissy, you feeling any better? Hope so.
Well, got totake advantage of some quiet time...everyone is gone so chance to get busy.
See you soon.
I just got home myself..I was still so weak I wanted them to check my Hemoglobin..It hadn't changed since Mon..But my blood pressure was 85 over 48..So they gave me some fluids..Took a chest X Ray..
Hi everyone, busy busy day today!
I'm feeling some better but still not what I should be. It's just a sinus thing, I'm all plugged up. Every day it gets better. Wanted to go shopping with my next door neighbor after work but decided not to, just got home and behave yourself!
Tubby I hope they juice you up good so you feel better. Once the meds kick in again you'll feel better. Let us know what's going on with you, I'm worried.
Oh Tubby, I am worried about you. Glad to hear they "filled your tank" even if it was with healthy fluids and not blood. You take it easy for your body to catch up and rest.
My son gave me a joke to tell you....are you ready for this?
Why do Sharks live in salt water?
Are you ready? its bad....really sure.....
Because pepper water would make them sneeze!
Yes, I thought the same thing....baaaaaaad joke! LOL
I am feeling better somewhat, just very very tired. Trip to Rochester was busy, and so so rainy. We are even getting very heavy rain right now and the road in front of the house is starting to flood over. It is supposed to keep up all night.
Betty, do you have classes tonight?
Been aweful quiet on here today.
Crissy, glad your starting to feel better. Careful that doesn't turn to sinus infection.
DD just got home from work and DH is heading up to bed, so I will be back in a bit.
Debbie
Hello To All;
(((HUGS))) to Tubby - I'm praying that you get some rest tonight! Glad you saw an improvement! I would absolutely LOVE another tropical Hibiscus....but can't you grow it in a pot? Just wouldn't want to take that from you if you can possibly keep it...they are SO beautiful... :)
Judy (Triplet)- Skittles First Words! LOL ! He is still just very much a baby, right? That would be GREAT if Breenie could do color guard! I need to email the Band Director and find out why he didn't add this...thought he would finally this year...It would be a great way to make the band "appear" bigger and I love to watch the flags, etc. Today they put DS Brock on Snare and Dillon on Tenor/Quads...that is what Brock & Dillon wanted so I guess they got what they wanted...That's great..it's still a move up for DS and it's his Senior year...
Trisha - Gorgeous Lily! (It is a lily - right?)
Hey Deb (Triplet) - Love the Joke! Hope I can remember it..I'm not too good at that!
Mary's Bad Joke of the night to make Tubby happy:
"Why didn't the Skeleton cross the road?"
See Tubby - we need you back at 100% around here....we can't make everyone happy like you can !
"Because he didn't have the guts"..... :)
Day Four on the Job and I'm Still Very Very Happy ! :)
Hugs to all,
Mary

There is a new product out..
It's called Milk of Amnesia..
It's for people who can't remember poop
I remember this..
A little house with three bedrooms and one car on the street. A mower that you had to push to make the grass look neat.
In the kitchen on the wall we only had one phone,
And no need for recording things, someone was always Home
We only had a living room where we would congregate,
Unless it was at mealtime in the kitchen where we ate.
We had no need for family rooms or extra rooms to dine,
When meeting as a family those two rooms would work out fine.
We only had one TV set, and channels maybe two,
But always there was one of them with something worth the view.
For snacks we had potato chips that tasted like a chip,
And if you wanted flavor there was Lipton's onion dip.
Store-bought snacks were rare because my mother liked to cook,
And nothing can compare to snacks in Betty Crocker's book
Weekends were for family trips or staying home to play,
We all did things together -- even go to church to pray.
When we did our weekend trips depending on the weather,
No one stayed at home because we liked to be together.
Sometimes we would separate to do things on our own,
But we knew where the others were without our own cell phone.
Then there were the movies with your favorite movie star,
And nothing can compare to watching movies in your car.
Then there were the picnics at the peak of summer season,
Pack a lunch and find some trees and never need a reason.
Get a baseball game together with all the friends you know,
Have real action playing ball -- and no game video.
Remember when the doctor used to be the family friend,
And didn't need insurance or a lawyer to defend?
The way that he took care of you or what he had to do,
Because he took an oath and strived to do the best for you.
Remember going to the store and shopping casually,
And when you went to pay for it you used your own money?
Nothing that you had to swipe or punch in some amount,
Remember when the cashier person had to really count?
The milkman used to go from door to door,
And it was just a few cents more than going to the store.
There was a time when mailed letters came right to your door,
Without a lot of junk mail ads sent out by every store.
The mailman knew each house by name and knew where it was sent;
There were not loads of mail addressed to "present occupant."
There was a time when just one glance was all that it would take,
And you would know the kind of car, the model and the make.
They didn't look like turtles trying to squeeze out every mile;
They were streamlined, white walls, fins, and really had some style.
One time the music that you played whenever you would jive,
Was from a vinyl, big-holed record called a forty-five.
The record player had a post to keep them all in line,
And then the records would drop down and play one at a time.
Oh sure, we had our problems then, just like we do today,
And always we were striving, trying for a better way.
Oh, the simple life we lived still seems like so much fun,
How can you explain a game, just kick the can and run?
And why would boys put baseball cards between bicycle spokes,
And for a nickel red machines had little bottled Cokes?
This life seemed so much easier and slower in some ways,
I love the new technology but I sure miss those days.
So time moves on and so do we, and nothing stays the same,
But I sure love to reminisce and walk down memory lane.
Smile
I wrote your name on a piece of paper, but by accident I threw it away.
I wrote your name on my hand, but it washed away.
I wrote your name in the sand, but the waves whispered it away.
I wrote your name in my heart, and forever it will stay.
I believe in angels, the kind that heaven sends.
I'm surrounded by angels, but I call them my friends
Yes Tubby! To both of the above......((((hugs)))) hope you have a good night.
Tubby - That is very wonderful - brought me to tears....
Now you go get some sleep because we need you tomorrow!
(((BIG HUGS)))
Mary
Good Morning All

Little Johnny was sitting on the curb with a gallon of turpentine,
shaking it up and watching all the bubbles.
A while later a Priest came along and asked Little Johnny what he had.
Little Johnny replied, 'This is the most powerful liquid in the
world, it's called turpentine.'
The Priest said, 'No, the most powerful liquid in the world is
Holy Water. If you take some of this Holy Water and rub it on a pregnant
woman's belly, she'll pass a healthy baby.'
Little Johnny replied, 'You take some of this turpentine and rub it on a
cat's Bottom, he'll pass a Harley Davidson
And good morning to you too, Tubby!!! I love waking up with a smile. Please tell me you got some rest last night. Norm's already out mowing greens in the rain - been gone since 4 am. I couldn't do it myself. No way am I getting up that early for someone to chase a little white ball around!!!! I was looking back through the threads last night and showed Norm your "wall of flowers" and he couldn't believe it was that long!! He wants to know how big your spread is and after I showed him all your raised beds he is going to put some in for me next year. How are they doing by the way? Get some rest today - only two more to go then meds again correct?
Barb I start back on meds Mon..
I really don't have raised bed..The pics that appear to be are my potato's..The boards are to hold the straw & leaves...I tried a row of straw bale gardening..Six bales in a row.
I was late getting them set up..Takes 11 days to get them cooking (Decaying)..
So far I'm impressed with this...I have 24 more bales in lean to..
Using bales means...No tilling, No weeding..Less bending over..Fewer bugs..
My cousin has 500 acres of wheat he'll be baling
So the price will be as good as I can find.
Just means a trip to S.D./Good excuse to go for a visit
Norm we have 3.01 acres..Can't forget the .01.LOL
I do intend to build some raised beds..Mostly for root veg's..
And if I build them high enough..Less bending..LOL
I have some old bridge planks 3" by 12"
One thing I've learned from DG Is don't make the to wide..
Keep it an easy reach to center..
Debbie I just check on the Hibiscus seeds in damp paper towel...I put a lot of seeds in it..They're are a few with little root....Kind of early..I'll give them a couple more days...
It won't matter because I have a lot of seeds..LOL
Mary I found the Hibiscus seeds..This is from plant files..

Morning, quite a day yesterday...
If you remember I said that LeeAnn (niece) was ill last week and the beginning of this week..the last 2 days she has spent in the hospital..then yesterday she called 911 and ambulance took her in..imagine, they sat her in emerge...in severe pain and crying..so Paul left the office and I started to call a few Dr. clients to see if they could get the tests that our hospital scheduled for mid August done in the city...
So it was busy cancelling and changing appts for everyone in the office...
Now for this morning..woke up to low music as my alarm this a.m. guess I didn't turn on the actual alarm..omg it was 15 minutes at 6..panicked, rushed liked the dickens to get out of the house by 6:45....made it..wow..in my car driving in and think the traffic is a bit light, look at the dash and yes, it's 6:55 am by now and it dawns on me..only had to leave at 6:45 when I worked in the city.. 1 1/2 to kill..so I've been to the bank, looked around in Walmart, picked up breakfast and here I am...
Here at 8:30 so thought I could check messages while eating, here Dr. Solomon Levine left a mess. not happy about calling at 4:50 pm yesterday and not getting an answer..he had appt. in Toronto for 8:30am ooops not going to make it..so called Paul, he was able to talk to the hospital and arranged to bring LeeAnn for 11:10..
Cindy had to stay home to look after LeeAnn's little one..
Who is in the office today? Me and Suzanne and she has to leave for an 11:00 apt. so then it will be just me...
Going back to read the posts...need a chuckle
Hi 'tubby' glad you are back on meds...must be difficult for you wanting to do so much and not able to...have to look at my hibiscus and check for seeds..this year seeds wouldn't be good to start would they? know we have summer hibiscus and then some that are winter hardy..maybe I'll go to a nursery this weekend...
Meant to say, last night Jeff called me and I couldn't believe he just wanted to talk/talk/talk..over 1 1/2 hrs. on the phone with him..he was just wound up..lol
Said to me 'mom, you know your t.v. cabinet, seet how high it is, hey mom, go sit on the floor near it' so with phone in hand I did...'now look up mom, see how high the waves were today'...freeked me out..lol..
Told him about some dg friends who did some of Alaska in kayak, 'nope' he says, 'if I do anything I'd be down in the Amazon' sure hope he's kidding..told him if he's serious, wait till I'm gone and do it on his inheritance...wouldn't be worried then...I got the famous "MOMMMM"
Here is his day 9:
Day 9 - Suck it up!
For those in the office pool who figured I would call it quits at the first sign of bad weather, you just lost your money. I figure there had to be a category for that one too. Was a good day all things considered.
Going to start off from where I ended last night, I get to the lock and one of my first questions to the lockmaster, "do you have a racoon problem here?", reply... "Never seen one". Whew, I had to store food in tent because I couldn't easily get into kayak. Ok, so I just finish updating my blog when I hear the now all too familair sound of fighting racoons, they sound like screaming babies, very freaky. I slap on the headlamp and pop out to see what's up. There is a garbage can 50 feet away and I can see those eyes staring back at me when the light hits them.
I first try and scare the critter by running towards, stomping feet, waving arms and shouting, she looks at me like what are you, new? I must be getting crazy out here cause we talk for a bit and I think we've come to a mutual understanding and I head back into tent. Fast forward to 3am.
My tent has a fly attached which forms a dome over my tent shell , which is pretty much all mesh for ventilation. Perfect design to open eyes and stare into face of my new little friend, let's just say I was a little startled. I'm pissed now, she broke our previously agreed upon arrangement!
I debate giving her a shot with my bear banger flares but decide not to wake up the town of lakefield, I go put my foodbag into the washroom so it's locked up, turn on my headlamp and leave it on pointing out, figure maybe she would stay away if the light was on. Don't know if she came back, was out like a light. Found out in the morning they were after the tbone steak scraps my boat neighbors threw out, thanks guys, all wrapped up nice in your cruiser.
Wake up around 6:30 and forcast calling for thundershowers in the afternoon, I walk to mcdonalds for egg mcmuffin and coffee, suprisingly the coffee is so good, I'm a die hard tims fan but I could switch now.
By the time I get back it has started to rain, I said I would paddle in any condition but lightning, I pack up all my gear in the rain then find a lower landing spot about 50 meters back behind the lock wall, carry all my stuff there and pack kayak, was better than navigating the four foot wall again. Empty water out of cockpit and foam seat it drenched from the rain overnight. Fun sitting in a puddle right off the bat. Hit first lock with my houseboat buddies from the day before. Wearing motocross jersey, shorts, paddling shoes, paddle jacket and shorts.
As I get thought lock at 9 the rains stops and I'm getting hot, take off jacket and store under deck. No sooner do I do that, it starts sprinkling again. Decide to leave jacket off, big mistake. I race the houseboat to next lock (did 8 locks today). He beats me, barely. I beat him to the next 3, I can get out of lock quicker, as soon as there is enough room. About 1/2 click to nassau mills lock rain pours, the kind where when it hits water the splash pops up about an inch. Now soaked.
There is a hold up at the lock and have to wait half hour, have my umbrella out to keep rain off, remembered to leave in kayak. Smart move. Getting a little cold now from sitting still. Once in lock I hop out of kayak, strip off jersey and put warm paddling jacket back on. All the difference in thew world. Next lock reterborough, 6km. The view wasn't all that spectacular on this section, componded with torrential rain. Despite that, I'm actually enjoying the paddle, wind behind so no struggling and today is the shortest schedule distance day at 16km. I did 18 though. Lol.
Get to peterborough lift lock and there is half hour wait and raining hard. I'm now cold and fingers white and wrinkled. Lift lock is amazing but just a bigger version of kirkfield. I came from. The top so you don't see it in all it's splendor. Rain stops as I exit but wet, little paddling and I warm up. Go through next lock and totally miss the channel split marker, duh. I see the dock in peterborough and head there. Opposite way from lock direction. Get there and realize, turn around and head back. On the way I paddle through the big water fountain in the middle of lake, wet anyway.
Starts pouring again and sky looks black. Make it to the last lock where I'm camping around 2. Lockmaster tells me I can tale the canoe chute if I like. It's 45 degree cement with rollers and exits on dam side in rapids, I say no way am I riding that down, paid 80 bucks for lock pass, gonna use it, he says no, you walk canoe down not ride, we both laugh. I use the lock anyway.
I unpack clothes and strip down right on dock, don't care at this point, want warm clothes, fleece sweater and pants, warm instantly. Get camp setup and it starts to pour again with lightning this time. I go for a nap and wake up at 5 and all clear. Make dinner and relax.
Elkie family texts at 6 they are at movie in peterborough do I want a coffee, ah ya. They stop by for half hour then I'm alone again, thanks for stopping by, kind of depressing that they drove here in 20 minutes and took me 15 hours over two days.
This is the first lock where I'm the only one here. Sat outside most of the night looking at stars and relaxing.
Tomorrow is suppose to be more of the same, yeah, knew I would get rain and just happy the first half and the toughest parts were in great weather. Making the best of it and not discouraged in the least. Part of the experience
My issue tomorrow is that it's 60k to next lock with rice lake in between, going to have to find somewhere to camp along the way.
More people took pictures and waved today than any other day, they wanted for scrapbook. Look at the crazy canadian in the rain. Especially when I had my umbrella up.
When does Scotty go Bev? such a shortage of Dr's here that our family doctors are overworked so most go to Emerge and that creates a problem as well...
What pretty flowers...at what state are your gardens..still strong and in bloom or starting to have the fall look?
Here all on my lonesome..
Playing at making some memory books...
Hello everyone. Guess I need to check in,so you don't send out the sniffing dogs to find me! LOL
I am doing fine, My knee is just swollen and I spend a lot of time with it on ice. I go see the Doc on Monday, so we will see what she says.
Hope everyone here is doing fine!
Love all the pictures, especiall that rainbow. Betty that was so pretty!
I saw Laura from down under on the last thread. Hope your doing OK, I bet it is getting cold for you down there now?
Everyone have a blessed week-end!
LK
Oh Bev that's horrible, wish I new something that would help.
Bev, wow, that didn't take long to get the appt. Let's hope the Dr. can do something for Scotty...on my way into the office today they were talking about some kind of new plant that's come out..tall, purple flowers with white flowers within, they did have a name but I've forgotten it..apparently it's 5 times worse than poison ivy..the city is having weed control come in to destroy the area it's growing in before it gets out of hand...they say when you touch it , worse than fire for burning..never heard of it..know I'll not go pick anything with nice purple flowers along the roadside..I'll try and listen to the news on my way home, hopefully they'll mention the name..
LindaKay, is your knee improving at all, sounds terribly painful..am sure you've all kind of things sitting on your bed waiting for you to do...
Its dull, drak and raining out there..guess Jeff has another rain day..I'm getting tires put on the car on my way home this aft. sure hope it doesn't take an eternity..
Wanted to go to the Elvis Festival tomorrow but if it's pouring rain, no fun so will just stay home and maybe clean and organize my craft room and a few closets..who knows, might fit in some quilt blocks
Betty it might be to late to start seeds now..Best to start in spring. Give them a better chance to get established..
Go back on meds Mon.
I wrote this at about 8 am.
Forgot to send..LOL
Tubby
Bev I wish you could find some homemade soap. The lye is the part that dries up the poision ivy
Tubby
Thanks Tubby. I know but I have a cream that dries that up. This is another poison that that cream won't stop. BEV
There's a DG friend of mine who makes and sells the homemade soaps.
Friend of my DIL makes homemade soaps as well..omg they look so yummy...almost like sliced fruit cake...which reminds me, must order more..
I've never seen rain come down as it has for past hour..thought I'd need Noah's ark to get home..starting to clear so let's hope it stops before 3pm....
Betty I hope that rain cleared for you to drive in. I always get hyper during downpours.
Hope you all have a great week-end!
LK
Hi all, I have been running crazy again. I need to rest! But no, back on the road soon as DH gets home.
Betty, I think the weed your talking of is "hog weed" or something like that. BIG problems with it here...and can leave 3rd degree burns by just touching it. It is horrible and the counties around here want all reports of it so they can come remove it.
I believe...but am not 100% sure....that lava soap does a similar thing as the lye soap. I usually find the lye soap at a hardware store...have also asked at pharmacy at Walmart and they have on occassion.
I am horribly allergic to Poison ivy. When I was a teen and just moved to NY from FL, Mom and I went blackberry picking. I had no idea what PI was....three days later I was covered head to toe and every spot in between. After about a week SF finally let me go to a doctor....and the doc wanted me in the hospital. SF would have none of that. So doc gave me lots of meds...shots and otherwise....and I had to see him daily for about 10 days. I had it in my mouth and everywhere. SOOOO am terrified if I ever get it again.
Well, DH is home...so I am out and running yet again. Already put 160 miles on the car since 10 this morning just about. AND the rain OMG. Finally stopped this afternoon, but more on the way.
I hope your all doing well....I will be back later on. Enjoy your evenings!
Debbie
Poison Ivy......my mother is very sensitive to it.....for years she had to take shots every spring or she would get it really badly just from pollen in the air.....me, I can roll in the stuff and it doesn't seem to bother me....
I will be begging for some of your down pours soon....by Sunday they say we are going to be getting record breaking heat here...may break the over five days of 90 plus temps set back in 1979....going to be hard on the dog...black fur coats and high heat don't go well
together.
Have a good night everyone.....will check back with the night crew later...
Morning...omg cannot believe I layed on the couch at 6:30 thinking what I'd get into, slept till 1:30 and off to bed and got up at 8:30..must have needed the sleep..
Before I start rambling, Bev, what did the doctor say about Scotty ?????
As with every morning I came downstairs to check Jeff's blog as yesterday the weather wasn't the best and the next lock across Rice Lake was over 60kl ..disappointed that I did not see an entry and then started to fret..you know moms...
Just spoke with him for about 15 minutes..he was 1/2 was through Rice Lake at 3:30 and decided to forge on to the next lock..well he's 1 day ahead of him goal..did the 60 kls. - sore from toe to head, just relaxing for a bit....says it's his personal best and doesn't think he could ever beat that record..was almost 11pm - yep, said he had his light with him that guided him through...said he was in no danger so for me to quit worrying...that after just telling me lightning hit the flag pole at the lock he spent the night before....
So now I can relax..my baby is doing fine..said he virtually could make his destination 1 1/2 days early but won't, says he'll enjoy what is left of his trip...so funny, he said he had a route map of his trip and he marks it off each night..says 'oh mom, I've only a 1/2 a page left' lol think although he's enjoyed it, seen what he's made of, seen that all his planning since Feb. was well done that he will be glad to be on land...said all but 1 or 1 1/2 hrs. he was in the kayak..long day..
Just my hair left to do, I haven't been rushing because it looks like rain, if it looks as though it will start clearing shortly I'll head out to the Elvis Festival in Collingwood..good hour away from here, but should be fun....if not, then I'll drive into MIL and get all those slacks done...what to do, what to do..lol
Don't know about you all but don't you all have 1 closet that is just 'yuk' well that was my goal this morning..clean it out...gee it looks nice all organized..
Breakfast is calling..need to settle my tummy...worrying is not good for our health...
Hope you all have a sunshine day..
Good morning Betty, glad you got some sleep. I think you truly needed it.
Glad to hear Jeff is doing well. You worry like I do....and yes...directly to the stomach it goes.
It is clear here so far...but storms predicted for the afternoon.
Ohhh I hope you take pictures at the Elvis shindig if you go. Got to be fun! DH and I danced to "Cant Help Falling in Love" for our wedding...one of our favorites.
Waving to everyone, Tubby did you get some rest? I sure hope your feeling better and your knee also.
Ok, waving again....have to scoot...Isabelle needs out....and is giving me that "now" look.
Debbie
