Best/Worse/What did I learn today..visit with friends #115

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Mary so glad today went well....I knew it would.....

Betty, it does look and sound like Jeff is having a great time....it is a trip he will remember for the rest of his life!

Tubby Beautiful flowers!! Sure hope you manage to get some rest....it is not fun losing sleep.

Had our luncheon today on the patio....beautiful weather.....
Dh called and the car finally gave up...had to have it towed in to the repair shop...just LOVE unplanned for expenses...NOT. Hopefully it is just a sensor that needs to be replaced.

Doris' daughter was over getting things ready for the Estate Sale. I stopped to chat for a minute while walking the dog....she gave me a large Frog, a turtle and a rabbit that Doris kept in the front yard....and her pot of Daffodil's that are always the first thing to bloom in the neighborhood in the spring....guess I will be starting a Memory Garden....I have a pot of Stargazer Lilies that belonged to a neighbor down the street, his sister gave them to me because we always stopped and talked to Rick on our walks...

Going to call it a night...mom has an early appointment with my Chiropractor in the morning.....sure hope he can help her.

Have a good night everyone.

Good morning,

Another rainey day here in NY. DH still road that darn bike in, I know he is trying to save on gas...but a motorcycle in the rain is just not good.

Tubby, on one of the other threads I frequent, we have been talking about not being able to sleep. I told them how our pediatrician taught me to eat (or feed) a turkey sandwich about 2 hours before bedtime to help sleep, with a glass of milk if tolerable. It is like Thanksgiving dinner, when you get so sleepy after eating, the turkey has a certain chemical/hormone in it that helps you get sleepy.....and it works!

If I have hard time with sleep, I am apt to roast a turkey breast on the weekend and we have it for sandwiches or to nibble off of during the week....and it really helps.

I hope you all have a great day
Debbie

Victoria Harbour, ON

Goodness Tubby that's absolutely beautiful..you don't do 'small gardens' do you?must take a massive amount of energy to look after all those gardens...breathtaking...

Trisha am sure you will cherish those garden pieces and the flowers.. am sure it was her way of saying 'thanks for looking after mom'. Is the auction this weekend and will you bid on anything? from the photo it looks like 2 froggies...did you already have a matching one or is it attached the the large frog? looks pretty.. hope all goes well with your mom this morning..think she over did it in the garden as well...

Debbie, I had Fabian, Paul Anka on my walls...of course Brenda Lee and Connie Frances...I'd spend hours trying to sing like those 2 ladies, lol, NOT!!!

Think Rose of Sharon is from the same family..my bush didn't do well this year, it grew like crazy but not many flowers..perhaps because I changed it location...finally it looks as though my Roger plant is coming alive..I've moved it at least 3 times...let's hope it survives the winter...

Mary, see you were fretting for nothing! Maybe that's all it took to get rid of being nervous..spending time with co-workers..best way to learn...
Already day 3...you'll be a pro in no time..

Mary, always proud of Jeff, even more so knowing he's planned for months and is living a dream..regardless of what your dreams are, if you follow through, you've something to be proud of...am sure now he's on day 8 providing he's not called back to work or ill he'll make it...

Day 7....

Day 7 - And on the seventh day...

He rested.

Today was the most relaxing day ever. . Went for a boat ride, more to take the kids tubing. Was a blast, sun shining the whole day.

Went for a tour of buckhorn (ok the liqour store) but on the way stopped at the candyshop, little store that has all the candy from when I was a kid. Got a pop shoppe cream soda, remember drinking those at my buddy arthurs cottage, they always had a full stock .

Stopped at the lock because they have a picture of the most boats they have ever put in any one lock. Insane number. There is a statue of a buck at the lock and unfortunately last week they had a deer that feel into the lock overnight and perished. They had to fish it out in the morning.

Stopped for ice cream, double scoop chocolate, yum and then stopped at this little shop where the gentleman builds handmade wooden canoes, we talked for awhile and he showed me the differnt styles and how they were made, he also had a 1910 wooden canoe which looked pristine and explained the differences between then and now as far as construction goes. Was pretty cool.

I didn't get a chance to try the chinese restaurant which I hear is the best around, had dinner with the Elkie clan, eggplant lasagne, pasta and slad. Delicious and better than chinese ever would have been. .

Didn't go for a waterski, would have but nobody could find a ski, opted to spend the afternoon on the beach drinking rye, probably going to regret it tomorrow, but oh well, deal with that tomorrow.

Made a new friend, Kyle, little boy around 5 or 6 and hilarious, was cracking up all day since he showed up on his bike, wetsuit, life jacket, helmut, snorkels, fins and fishing takel, ready for the beach. Busted out some goodies from the kayak and filled him full of sugar, it's vacation parents, little sugar high in a six year old never hurt anyone.

After dinner went bear watching, it's the thing to do on a tuesday night in buckhorn, was about a 5 minute drive from water and one of those cottage country garbage drop off sites, I've seen a couple of bears before but never so many in one place, there were over a dozen of them wandering around and a really big 600-700lb papa bear. Was told to make sure we keep a lookout behind us just in case. Turns out there was one just down the embankment from where we were standing, couldn't see him and wasn't going searching, too tired to run away or even outrun the kids, yes, with bears you don't have to be the fastest runner, just not the slowest, no way I'm beating. Ms triathlete either.

Many many thanks to the entire Elkie family for a great day off and the hospitality.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Debbie, that's an interesting theory..I love turkey..

If I want to treat myself I purchased the boxed turkey you get already stuffed at Walmart, $16.98 but it last me for several days...deboned, mostly white meat..then I make a gravy and add some to the dressing..not homemade but yummy yummy in the tummy....

Don't you think we all go through times when our bodies think we need no sleep..toss/turn..I just get up then..the more you try to sleep the more awake you are..

Glenview, IL

Good morning.

Tubby, Wow, my eye sure popped open to see your amazing wall of Beauty. Spectacular blooms.
bummer you didn't sleep well, I hope you have a restful day...

Betty Thanks for the lochs and other photo. very cool. Jeff, very handsom man...uhhh, why is he not re-married? oh boy am i a nosey one, lol sorry. Anyway, Seeing his kayak really brings his story alive, yow, can't imagine going over waves in that, lol I barely do well in the boat...Well, now i do hope you go for aide out on the Foxy Lady at least once this summer.

Waiving hiya Liz! Everyone, I was telling Liz last night I am so very upset and angry...Thats it!!I give up!! So went to do some clean up and straightening and guess what? Someone, took it upon themselves to spray poison on my front bed!! I am furious...This area I have always let things go a bit wild, their are just some things that are low growing, so I never yank at them, well they are dead, brown, shriveled! other plants too are I had hosta , and some of the lily of the valley that some of the leaves have turn ugly brown not sunburn, the sun barely gets through in the area, These wild leaves have lived and stayed green and strong in the worst droughts ever...
So, I have decided...only to keep it as clean as possible and starting to today I am going to transplant from this house to the Cottage. Will take as much i can this weekend, I may have to hire some one to water over there.....I am telling you, getting to the point where I am downright hateful.....Growling as i type, but I am alsmost inclined to plant every weed imaginable, hands on the hips, maybe I wait till i move!

Alright, got to go calm myself and get in some yard work, Had a nice rain so job should be a little better.
Sorry for hollaring around this morning, but thanks for listening...

Mary, Yep, my Jake is one of the biggest boys at the camp, lol...they all can't wait for him to be on the line, lol. He was telling me what the Center guy does, yikes pretty big responsability. He said, they won 5 out of six on the 7 on 7 which i learned means only 7 player opposed to 7 games, lol never had an interest to learn about football, now I am nosey because DS is playing. Well we hope he make the team. Tryouts are on the 12th of August. All sports begin then...So your DS, is he in Band camp? I am really glad the weather isn't unbearable for these kids out their...
I am glad your 2nd day went so well, just give your self time, everything will click into place.

OK...Oh I loved David Cassidy, And Travolta? Yow, he is still my man! My good friend Judy has met John, said he is a real sweetheart.
Her Nephew, good gracious, name just fell out of my head, played his Son in a movie, lol that fell out of my head at the moment..anyway when they had the movie debut is when Judy met him...LOL was very exciting, asked her if she gave him a kiss for me...

Well, i better get moving.
Oh wait, Trisha, What a cute frog! Will be very cute in the memory garden.

Bev, sending hugs and Prayer continue...I hope these cooler days we are having bring a little comfort for Scotty, and you. Hey how is our Powder doing? Been about a year now hasn't it?

Really got to go now, see you in a bit.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Debbie I had a poster my dad bought me of David Cassidy. When I got it I could care less, but a few years later I thought he was hot hot hot!! LOL I think John Travolta looks better now than he did then. I was all into Joe Elliot. Everybody was head over heals for Tom Cruise, I never understood why, he has a big nose and talks through it lol! I have to think who I liked in high school. I know who I like now :)

Mary I probably have told you my age. YAY I'm the baby! Someone has to do it!!

Talk about unexpected expenses, my mom's water pump went out on her house well, $400.00 for the pump and $300.00 to have it put in.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Laura (wonderhug) posted on the last thread...thought I'd move it over..

*waving from somewhere under the mess*

alive and kicking.. oh for normal life and house again!

Laura, just keep thinking how beautiful it will be...shouldn't be much longer should it? Has your daughter started to look for accommodations yet for she and grandaughter? it must be so difficult, when you and hubby live on your own to have the extra guests..you have to do what you have to do for family but ohhhh to be just the 2 of you, won't that be grand...

Guess your weather is starting to warm up as it won't be long we'll have the start of fall..already can see an odd leaf turning color...how's DH doing?

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Betty, am I getting a hotel for Sunday night? Do you want to stay close to Beale Street/Downtown or on the East side of town over by the botanical garden?

Lyndonville, NY

Betty, I sent Laura the new link in a D-mail so she would "come on over" first thing this morning.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Judy, omg, talk about hateful, now you don't mean your family mistaking plant powder to poison??? who on earth would do such a thing??? I wouldn't give up that easily..teach them a lesson, off you go to the $$$ store, get some flowers and plant them helter skelter through that front garden..

I've been to your house and even last year with all the wildflowers it wasn't unsightly..you don't think it was the front neighbor do you?

Don't you all just hate it when you've things organized financially and then unexpected things happen..like having to get new tires put on this Friday..

Any news on the car Trisha?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Great minds think alike, just did as well...

No rain here, guess you have it all, DON'T send it this way, want sunshine this weekend...it's the Collingwood Elvis weekend...

Ames, NE(Zone 5b)

Debbie hope it works if I eat the dark meat..Really don't like white meat..LOL

I did get more sleep last night..

Lyndonville, NY

Now Tubby, I don't know that answer...but I figure it has to have some of the same values. Maybe if you put the white meat in the middle of your sandwhich and surround it with dark meat....you will forget its there! LOL

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

LOL! I don't like white meat that much either Tubby, give me the oily crap. Chicken thighs are my favorite

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

Thankyou Judy. Yeah cooler days are helping a lot. Powder is almost a yr old. She is Queen of this house. Always has to have everything her way. HUGS BEV

OMG Bev, that is soooo cute!

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

Here is another. She is a stumble bum too. She fell in the toilet yesterday. LOL

Thumbnail by dragonfly62
Lyndonville, NY

Bev, you must laugh so much with her! She looks like quite a character.

We have to keep the seats down on all of our toilets for the same reason. LOL

Glenview, IL

LOL oh no...what a shock that must have been, plus...had to have been hysterical for you at same time.
She is looking great...Cute, cute picture, lol those lil bubble sayings are great too.

Betty, i wouldn't put it past that #$$%%^% you know what! he is just a sneaky viscious OLD MAN! Thinks he owns the whole neighborhood... LOL, I can't get them to pick up a stick, so no way...They really love the wild garden, were furious when when had to downscale it last year...
No, my family knows better then to put any kind of poisons in the yard, infact I don't fertilize or use any chemicals, other than straight vinagar and thats when I've had it with a particular weed...my idea of fertlizer is a banana water shake, coffee grounds and an occasional egg shell treatment.
It's just so upsetting, has taken years of trial and error, to find pretty flowers that would grow.throughout the summer...Also Missing, totally gone, my beautiful Goldenrod!! has been growing in the same spot for the last 7 years! Gone!

You know, i don't have mean bones, but this guy is making me grow one.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Bev, they are the most adorable photo's..quite the card..lol..I'm with the others, you must be in stitches half the time seeing the antics being performed..still a kitty...

As for my kitties, getting so tired of picking up dead things..last night I wondered what the smell around the back deck cafe was, yep, right there behind the hutch, 2 half rotten mice or moles..to me the same...out near where I park, a few more...know something is decaying along the flower bed house garden...yuk/yuk

Judy, can tell you are frothing at the mouth and so you should..you'll have to get a doggie to pace the yard, that would keep him/they away...only thing sweetie I have to say about the goldenrod...allergy/allergy...highly toxic for some..omg Suzanne can't breath at all when she's neart goldenrod and a few family members as well so I pull it out asap...

Victoria Harbour, ON

ooops just have to tell you a story...

on the news this morning, our Ontario Lottery of 4.2 million was won and the man collecting yesterday had a bit of a surprise...as he walked out of the Lottery division who was waiting, yep, policemen..apparently 2 or 3 years ago he had been arrested for theft, was a no show in court so a warrant has been issued for him..well they found him..1st night being a millionaire, in jail and who knows how many more to come..lol

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

OMG Betty now that's hilarious!! What a way to get caught, and part of his millions will have to go to fines, what a bummer. How much of that will the Canadian Government take for taxes?

Victoria Harbour, ON

NO TAX...our lotteries are tax free and you get the total amount...

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

I wanted to say Judy neighbors can be such a pain, especially ones like those. When I was a kid, almost teenage years, we had new neighbors move in next door to us. She was pregnant and very outspoken and they already had a 2 year old son. Anyway, her outspokenness didn't calm down after having the baby and gained A LOT of weight, and when the baby was learning to walk the mom thought she was hot to trot and went out in her string bikini yelling at all the cars that drove by that they needed to slow down because she didn't want her baby getting ran over, we lived on a short street with 5 houses on it. She did this for a number of years, and one day she was outside and my mom got home and pulled into our driveway, she came running over to my mom telling her she needed to pull into the driveway much slower because she didn't want her baby getting ran over, the child was probably in 1st grade by this time, that's how long this had gone on. My mom told her to keep her kids out of the street and her driveway and she wouldn't have to worry about anyone getting ran over. LOL she never really did it again, but by then I was 16 and driving so didn't pay much attention to anything.

Oh now that's awesome Betty. Too funny about him, wonder how much his fines will be, and how much he'll have to pay to bail himself out. LOL

Going to go shopping for lunch and getting pizza at work after I get back woo hoo!!

Our Laura Down Under posted this on the old thread:

"*waving from somewhere under the mess*

alive and kicking.. oh for normal life and house again!"

I let her know that we started a new thread and led her to the link, hopefully she'll find us.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Too cute Crissy, I d-mailed her, Debbie d-mailed her and now you...she'll surely know where to find us..lol

Jeff just e-mailed me to check his blog to find out WHERE he's suppose to be by tonight..with the one day of rest he's lost where he should be or could it be the hangover..lol

Judy, you asked why he's not remarried..

Well he virtually as V.P. of Engineering works days and night and many weekends, says it's not fair to any lady..on his off time he rides dirtbike, plays instruments to unwind..

He does have a lovely lady, will take photo tonight to show you..she owns her own business..she's just got back from Austria on a bike marathon, she runs, busy/busy so when they need dates, there they are..know they go out a few times a month to dine...

Maybe when he retires he'll need one...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Here's one, not very clear on her Portugal ride a month ago I believe it was...

Lovely lady..

Tired of waiting for that rain, have the sprinkler on, went and got gas for the lawnmower..wouldn't want Cathy to visit tomorrow to do my grass and no gas..lol..aren't I a con artist...

Greg dropped in, omg he can barely use his hands, poisin ivy, large blisters filled with fluid...

He was telling me he was gabbing with Jeff and thought of a plan..not so sure Jeff is thrilled but knowing Jeff he might be ok with it..

Greg went and priced a kayak for Kyle, he might drive him to Peterborough to meet up with Jeff and Kyle would continue the journey with Jeff...not so sure I think it's a great idea..apparently Kyle did 6hrs. of kayaking Monday and a few Tuesday and now he wants to join Uncle Jeff... hmmmm

Greg said Jeff said it was ok but not on the couple of big lakes he's yet to cross..if he does join him is will most likely be for the last few days...

Then Darlene just called to tell me where she put a box of door knobs for all the doors I'm installing..so been busy/busy...best I go make a coffee, sit and relax for 1/2 hr..girls will be here to paint shortly...

Glenview, IL

Hi...

Betty, sounds like jeffs got a real nice Lady friend...their scheduals equally as busy, nice they take time for each other.

Crissy, thanks for the little story, sometimes telling a neighbor like it is helps, but not this guy. Once he hit my car, an old one, never did pay to have it fixed, big jerk...broke my tale light cover, he came across and taped a red glass over the light...I ran and got three estimates and gave him copies, never paid a penny. So now any time he goes off at me, I tell him to go ahead and hit my car again! That usually shuts him up and sends him away for a while...

Anyway I have been one busy lady, woohoo my weedwrench has paid for itself today! Cleaned out the entire deckside of the house, well i am just about past the backe deck section, trimmed up the unsightly bushes...(i hate those) lol, but they will have to stay until we replace the unsightly fence...Don't get me wrong they are decent I just don't care for them much.

Oops getting called so be back in a bit.

Lyndonville, NY

I am so out of sorts today. Not sure what is going on but keep feeling like " $#its gonna hit the fan" feeling in my stomach.

DH has killed both lawn mowers in 48 hours. One is totally trash and the other possibly also. He is very good mechanically so if he says it is history...it is. Now to convience him to throw them out!

DD Jeanna called, her ex co-worker...and where her DH works....had a tragedy with a young girl killed in a car accident last night, and the BF who is son of dad also works at the same place...was driving and is in bad shape....and they find out it was a DWI. Both kids worked at the dealership....the girl was neice of one salesman...the BF son of another. I don't know why these kids even take such chances. This is the 3rd teen girl killed in less that 20 hours to DWI accidents.

Rain is moving in Betty....they said about 9:00 tonight it should hit. Rained all last night also.

OK, I am feeling goofy...gonna go lay down. Pizza on the way.

Glenview, IL

Oh my gosh Betty, poor Greg, yikes i have been ripping out poison ivy all afternoon! thank heavens for the Weed wrench, never came close to any. but, here is what I want to suggest. My sister Gypsy had Poison oak real bad when we went up North. She was told by a nurse to use lye soap, it dries it up! Also janice said when her kids had it she took the to the pool, the chlorinated water dried it up...

Oh you have a fun class...lol about the gas thing.

Hi Wonderhug, you sound busy, busy with all the renovations. Won't it be wonderful when it's all done, glad you came out to say hi.

ok back at it...

Glenview, IL

Debbie, i am so very very sorry to hear of such a tragedy. I will keep the families in prayer.
So devestating to receive a call such as this...

my, I hope you feel better, go for a short nap.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Oh Debbie that's horrible. I feel for those families and prayers are being sent.

Betty you are too funny!

Debbie that sucks about the lawnmowers. My boss said he through his out, it threw a rod through the oil pan. I told him that's pretty good when you can throw a rod through the oil pan in a lawn mower! Maybe that's what your DH did, but since he's good at mechanics I doubt he neglected to put oil in the thing, then again you never know, my dad let his vehicles run out of gas because he didn't believe they really would, and he was a mechanic, built cop cars.

Poison ivy is nasty nasty stuff. Dave's motto is, "Stay out of the woods!" LOL

(Laura) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Betty, I like cross stitch, it’s calming for me; at least it is when it goes right, but that’s the same with any art. I can’t do freehand embroidery to save my life though.

My garden is doing it’s thing. In other words I haven’t gotten around to doing much in it. Some of the seeds I planted have bloomed and at least part of the yard is doing well. I desperately need to get out and weed; I also have some plants to put in the ground, but I just haven’t had the energy. Part of it is we haven’t had good weather to garden for awhile, either to hot or too wet. I don’t deal well with heat. We got some goldfish for my fountain and they’re all still alive. I am pretty happy with what I accomplished, though I could do a lot more. It would be perfect if I had about $200 dollars to spend on it.

Sage did really well on the drive. I was really worried with being on the road for 10 hours at a time, but she did as well as any of us; even though she really only had her Ipod to entertain her. She slept a lot of the way, there and back. She loved the lake; we spent most of the full day we were there in the water. The area used to have a silver mine so she was able to find rocks with silver flecks in the, which she thought was one of the coolest things. Jeff and Donella, the wedding couple, are two of her favorite people; I wish they lived closer; they really are the perfect aunt and uncle.

I’m still not feeling great. It’s not horrible, but I’ve been running a low grade fever since we left Idaho, and just feeling icky. The trip back I was actually getting a little car sick which is really rare for me, so I slept a lot of the way home too.

I’m so glad my headaches aren’t as common; I used to feel I had headaches more often than I didn’t.

The design is one that I made and takes up 12 sheets of graph paper; so there is no picture of what it will look like, except for on the patter when all laid out. The amount I’ve finished isn’t enough to bother taking a picture of, when I get where you can see what I’m doing I’ll get a picture posted.

Crissy, it’ll be worth it if they like it.

Sage, DH and I all like “Scooby Do, Tom and Jerry, Bugs Bunny reruns, and cartoons along the Bugs Bunny line” as well as a few others. I’m corrupting her into watching more adult shows like “Next Food Network Star” “Iron Chef” “Chopped” “Mythbusters” etc. but it’s nice to watch cartoons too. I just only have so much tolerance for the modern kid’s shows.

Isn’t the area beautiful?

Thumbnail by zhinu
Victoria Harbour, ON

OMG Laura it is beautiful..don't know about you but unless it's in the 80's water wise I'm out of there..old age I guess...have to get Jeff to transfer all my programs from my old computer to my new one Laura...I have a cross stitch program that you enter a photo and it translates it to a graph, color scheme, how many skeins to purchase etc.etc. maybe once his vacation is over I can grab him and get him to do it..that way should you want a graph done and color scheme I can do it and e-mail it to you..did the photo of my grandchildren, bought all the skeins of color, did about 10 rows, ooops this is not me, don't like so there it sits...

Weather Laura plays a big part in headaches don't you find?
Today kids have so many gadgets/ipods, movie players that they can use in the car that they don't get fidgety..

Debbie, sorry about the lawnmowers...couldn't have waited another few weeks until summer is over could they? are you anxious because of the trip? sending prayers for the families of those children...terrible when they all know each other...tragic for sure....let's hope tomorrow brings good news..

Judy, the poisin ivy I caught was mainly because the dog would be out in it then he'd come in and I'd pet him..before you know it I'd be full of poisin ivy...

It's late, I'm tired so will call it a day..

One photo before I sign off..

Jeff said the town he is in had yellow ribbons tied to everything..the town just lost one of their own in Afghanistan...said it was quite something to see..

Best of today...Rita was smilling and laughing again..

Worse of the day...just the feeling that I'm not accomplishing much of late

What did I learn today...might have another kayaker in the family...

Good Lord willing we'll gab tomorrow
Night/night

Hello To All;

Laura - That is simply gorgeous - what a great trip...it looks Soooo relaxing!

Hey Deb - Trying to get to bed early these days what with new job...So I missed your post last night..."Closet Donnie Osmond" LOL HA!

I've been trying to learn more about hibiscus...I love the tropical hibiscus...but I'm learning that in my 8b/9a area...I have to plant them in a warm area to have them come back successfully....Now I know - I plan to plant a couple more...one that I put in a pot that died back last year...

That pic I posted earlier was a water hibiscus...it grew to about 8' (the pic with DH)......DH planted 3 of the type Tubby has and boy did they Flower! And pretty too! But Tubby - yours look about 8 feet tall! DH calls these "Rose Mallow" hibiscus....and yes Betty - we have a Rose of Sharon as well but I think it's dying...but it's a tree with similar flowers....Maybe this is something I should read up on....since i love the flowers so much...

I'll post a pic....my most interesting Tropical had a VERY unusual (a deformity almost) bloom Today!

Trisha - hope the chiropractor helps your Mom...I see mine every 6 weeks and it definitely helps!

Judy and Deb - My "triplet" Friends :) ...love all those as well..and know just what you're talking about....

Judy - Good luck - I think your DS will make it...I'm like you ....don't follow football much but learning...mainly because DH loves LSU so much....as does the rest of Baton Rouge "Geaux Tigers!" !

DS began Drum Camp today...SO excited...he says we got FIVE freshman! Those of you who remember I've worked SO hard to help this band and recruit (we were SO small!) can imagine how happy I am....I can't wait till Monday to see how many regular band students we're getting from the middle school.....

Band Director put DS at Tenor "Quads" (Its the one with Four Drums) ...he isn't happy but it's quite an honor and I believe he doesn't think he's up to it...but it's very likely they put him on it because he's the strongest on the Drumline...and that's the heaviest drum...

I'm so proud anyway....it's considered a move up from bass drum and he is the Drum Captain this year...

Hey Crissy - "Baby Sis" - Same here...give me Chicken Thighs anytime...that's about all I buy / Cook....

Betty - lottery story - how interesting! Maybe your DS is just going to marry late....I did...I was 37 when I married DH....of course we had our kids already...so just did the "Brady Bunch" thing.... (Sorry Deb :) )

But guys can marry later than we women can....and raise a family. A good friend of our family, a STELLAR guy, finally married at a late age (42?) and now has a great wife and 5 & 7 year old....

Today...THIRD day at my new job....Just Fabulous! I'm so happy! Busy Busy Busy but Happy!

Hugs
Mary

PS - Will attach hibiscus pic later...having trouble getting the pic from my camera.....

(Laura) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Betty, it was in the 90’s all weekend, but the water was warm even late at night. I don’t know how it is earlier or later in the season, but it was great while we were there.

I don’t know… I had a CD player when we were coming up to WA from CA and I was way worse than here; though I did have a brother, so that could be part of the difference. There was no “He’s touching me!” etc… and for all that she talks all the time she’s usually quieter in the car. I’m not looking a gift horse in the mouth though, she was great and I’m not going to worry about why. She was even better than when we go to Port Angeles, which is maybe a third of the drive. Though it’s the first time either of us ever remembers seeing flat land without trees, so at least part of the drive was interesting.

Day 8 - suprised I can still type

Made it to lakefield, barely! 35+km and over 10 hours to do it. Completely exhausted tonight but otherwise was a perfect day.

Today was one of the best days mixed with one of the worst, positive outweighed the negative so I have no complaints. Was bound to happen sooner or later. Going to start off with all the good stuff.

Woke up around 6 and went for a nature walk, was a raccoon sitting on a branch staring me down, I've seen bears you little pest, bring it on. He blinks first, that or just got bored with some guy staring at him and lost interest.

Was another beautiful day weather wise, sun shinning all day, the trip from buckhorn to youngs point was my favorite and most beautiful so far. All the little islands everywhere, stunning landscape and the cottages were a sight to see. Very much reminded me of where I grew up and for the fist time a little home sick. For a minute.

Was packed and headed off at 8, got to the lock a little early and talked with some nice people on a houseboat who offered me breakfast, little hung over still and couldn't fathom food at this point. Sat and gabbed with the lockmaster while he was getting ready to open. Through the first lock at 8:30 with my new friends in the houseboat. Didn't have the nerve to ask them to put my kayak on the back and almost wish I had by the end of the day, I exaggerate for effect.

Stopped on this little island for early lunch around 10:30, for some reason I kept looking over my shoulder for bears, yeah yeah, wimp. The most gorgeous houseboat (not one of those rental jobs that are everywhere up here) but a massive 40 footer and not pontoon style either, drove by and couldn't get camera quick enough to snap a picture, it was sweet, never seen one like that before.

Passed through lovesick and got to burleigh falls at around 12:30 and along the way found the little flat rock barely above water and decide to relax for a bit. Would have been cool had there been someone to take a picture, would have looked like I was sitting in the middle of the lake.

I see my first kayakers but they are going the opposite way into stoney lake, too bad would have been good to chat em up.

Round the bend into clear lake and there is a church sitting there, huh? Almost go in, shake my head, what was I thinking, with 7 days left to do the trent I can't spend half of them doing confession.

Stop on this cool little island for a break before heading down clear lake. Really high up and overlooking the bay. Like climbing a mountain.

On clear lake there is a small sailboat going by and we chat for a minute each time they pass, was funny. Where you going, ten minutes later, trenton, ten minutes later, where you coming from... You get the picture. As I get closer to the end of clear lake a seadoo drops by and asks if I'm coming from georgian bay, I say yesn he tells me there is a guy looking for me at te locks, huh? I get to youngs point at 5pm and the most incredible yatch comes out of the lock, bikini on front didn't hurt.

Another guy says someone is looking for me? I go through lock and some people tell me there was a guy in a kayak asking if I had been through. Funny, was the guy from 2 days ago that gave me the beer in sturgeon lake, he was serious. I missed him by an hour. I have to decide if I stay there or goto lakefield, pretty tired at this point, go for it, only 10k more. I want out of big open lakes now and this is the last one for two days, plus it also means I only have to do 15k tomorrow into peterborough and they are calling for rain.

As I paddle along a big osprey dives into the water and catches a fish, not 20 feet from kayak, was a highlight. I get to lakefield at 6:30, camp setup by 7:30 and into town for dinner at a pub, pork chops. Yum. Didn't feel like cooking.

Now the bad parts.

Wind was in my face all day and felt like I was pushing 300lbs of gear with a rope all day long, it was slow and exhausting work, glad it's over.

Get to the lock and it's the first with no way out, end up having to lift everything 4 feet to the concrete above, was interesting to say the least, should be fun packing tomorrow.

Last, there are red ants everywhere and before I realized it, they were in everything. Going to be crawling all over me till morning the bastards.

Sleep time.

Says he's moving his office to this island...
