Hi, Sorry I am late, but I brought some Dragon cookies just out of the oven and had to find a scarf for my straw hat that would go with my outfit. Tucked in a few of the Honey Crisp apples that I got at the famer's market yesterday-they are really yummy. I cannot knit, crochet,or quilt and did not want to bring the jewelry craft stuff; so just brought along the Mitford series books to re-read, while the needles are clicking away.
Tea Party
Sand yes that's the book, "The Thorn Birds" for some reason I really loved that book, and watched the movie time and time again, but he never did, leave the priesthood for her, no matter how many times I watched it. Didn't you feel like you had actually been to New Zealand and Australia? Hear yah about the lottery!!! Yes I'm getting a little finicky to, I think I'll have a couple of your snickerdoodles and some of Marcie's Dragon cookies what's in them Marcie? I love apples in the fall and a new apple I've never heard of. Your outfit is very fitting for this time of year and you look great.
What are snickerdoodles please? And flowerpot, my husband used to have white feet but is now a gardener...lol!!
yeah what are snicker doodles!????? they sound great....
lets take everything outside and sit on the grass again...
your hat looks lovely flowerpot... perfect.....
I have been to sydney a couple of times.. its about 2 hours on the plane... i have been over the bridge and its huge! I walked under it once and they were working on it as they do all year round repalcing bolts and things, and a huge bolt fell and just missed my head!
I decided to take it home and show the family when I told them the story and so popped it in my bag.... well i will give you three guesses what happened atthe airport when a long metallic thing showed up on the exray machine!
yes, I was man handled aside by a male and female officer and told to wait...... I nervously laughed and said "you will never believe the story..nervous giggle... etc... he told me to be quiet.... I was so worried.... they took it out of my bag and he just stood there looking at it... I said " er, its from the harbour bridge,.... it nearly killed me"...... he just contiued to look....
he turned to his female partner and said " did you lose something from your neck"? (as in making out like she was frankinstein) and they all burst out laughing! They had been having me on and thought it a great joke.... we still get a laugh from it...
mmm the sun is shining.... I can smell jasmine....it is definatly spring here.
Laura
You guys look funny with all those corks swinging back and forth hanging from your hats! Got some hot Chelsea buns here and more hot tea!
Laura - funny story...lol!! Lor! what I could do with a Chelsea bun right now - I even used to buy them one day old for 1 penny, I loved them so much. This was on my way home from school - stale buns were always cheap!!
hello flowerpot, louisa, and all :), ok here i come with my orange dreamcicle cake.......yum.....i was looking for an excuse to make it :), i know this is a tea party but....how about if we start with ice cream?????can someone else bring another item ? let's make sundays!!!!!! and or banana splits( no calories of course)oh, and also i made some yummy carmel turtle brownies (eat alone, or is wonderful with ice cream), guarenteed not to make your hat size bigger, ha ha
Come on Sand and Marcie tell us your secret.Okay Doris you think these hats look funny you should try wearing one with the corks flying in front of your eye's, here try mine on for size!Chelsa bun's are liked by so many people, but not me I don't like the peels yuk!!!! My Grandmother used to buy them all the time and she'd eat my peels and I'd eat the rest.Louisa my Dad was from England New Castle he said they used to get the cuttings from the cakes, when he was a boy. Tootsie you are so bad your feeding into all my weaknesses, "warmed carmel brownie" with "ice cream" it's a good thing you can't really hear me mouning because you'd really wonder about the woman on the other end here ha ha ha ! I really want to dig into that "orange dreamsicle cake" I've never tried that before have any of the rest of you? Laura I didn't realize Melbourne and Sydney were that far apart, so I guess youwouldn't just drive down and watch the ship come and go!!!!
no not really but I have visited and travelled on the bay. They all get around on ferry's and water taxie's like we do on buses and such... well down at circular quay anyway...
this tea party is lovely!
laura
Snickerdoodles are a kind of sugar cookie, they are really crisp and rolled in sugar and cinnamon. I would like to know what dragon cookies are, too. Also I have never orange dreamcicle cake. recipes? They sound good judging from smacking sounds I'm hearing!!
Sandy
Laura is circular quay a place or an Aussie phrase for something? Laura when are we all invited to come for a bar-b-que at your house. I hope it's before the middle of October, because I'm moving and our house won't be ready until, "maybe" the end of December. My computor is going to be stored, until we move into the new place.
Your right girls I think we need receipe's for snickerdoodles, dragon cookies and orange dreamsicle cake. What do you say "Doris", "Sand" and "Marcia"?????????
well, i'm a little late, but i brought some sherry. A LOT of sherry....any takers?
Has everyone heard Louisa's Grandson arrived, after 22 hrs labour they did a C-section, and as far as I know all's well. So Iris you brought the sherry just in time to celebrate another birth. I'll get some sherry glasses, how many are there of us here?
Ooooooh a tea-party! Can I come? I LOVE tea-parties. I've brought some Earl Grey, some scones, clotted cream and strawberry jam. I've also made some cucumber sandwiches with the crusts cut off.
I've brought some more linen table-cloths. These were my Mum's and they're hand-embroidered. I think some were my grandmother's. And this one was my Auntie Greta's. Isn't it pretty? I like Lazy Daisies. And I've brought another tea-pot. This one's Carltonware, left me by my Uncle Jim.
Oh, what a lovely meal! Thank you Flowerpot!
Diane
northerner, is that you?! nice to see ya again and how's school?
btw - i'm iSis. iRis is the one in the beautiful hat.
i have plenty of sherry glasses in the trunk - just came from yard-saling...
cheers!
HELLO Isis!!!!! Yes, it's me. My computer's sulking at the moment, but I'm back at uni, so I can use the ones here till I get my puter fixed.
I just started school today. I think I'm the oldest student in the class, but there are some other mature students, one about 40 or so. They all seem quite a friendly bunch though it'll probably take a few lectures to get to know who's who. It's a fairly sparse timetable this week as we do the form-filling bit and inductions and so on. There's a social event at the pub on Wednesday evening, so I'll have to look out my best bib and tucker for that!!!!
I think it'll be slightly easier than my last year. I'm based at just one place and there are far fewer exams. Only one that I know of so far, and I've already covered some of the material in a course I did last year. A lot less stressful than my previous courses I'd say. Yippee!!! And I get a bursary this year too.
I'm pleased about Louisa's grandson. Let's have another glass of sherry!!!!!
y'know, somehow i've always pictured you as a rita. as in, educating rita! don't get too involved in rehabilitating those reprobate profs!!!!!!!
OOOOOOOOOh I'm so sorry isis, I saw the "I" and the "s" and a "short name" ha ha ha!! Welcome to the tea party. Notherner(Diane) as well, welcome such lovely hand work. I love scones and (is Devine Cream the same as clotted cream?) with strawberry Jam. Cuccumber sandwiches are also very good.
Thanks isis for having all those sherry glasses I'm sure I don't have enough. Well we can still cheer in the new baby Grandson "Ben" if Louisa had time I'm sure she'd join us in the cheer. Safe journey (GRANDMA) Louisa!!!!! Hey Iris someone likes your pretty YELLOW hat (to myself oh boy she needs, to walk around with a watering can. he he he!!)
I've never heard of Devine cream. But we get clotted cream from Devon. Don't know if that helps?
I'm going to have to be a good girl and eat salads this year. I'm most definitely plump!!!! I've just finished a fortnight of day-trips. No holiday, but some nice outings. Seemed to end up in a tea-room most days. Mmmmm cream tea!!!!!
That's what I meant is Devon Cream, that's where I had it at a tea room, I had a can of it once that came in a fruit basket it was lovely.
Another Aussie hat here for Northerner and Iris! Flowerpot, when I make chelsea buns I don't use the peel, but my recipe calls for currants! Much better I think! Cucumber sandwiches! My favorite. Northerner, do you have far to go now to your classes? Glad you finally got here! Yes, we are definately going to need recipes, like the Dreamsickle cake , and caramel brownies. Yum, these scones with jam and clotted cream are the best! The sherry goes very well with them also!
Well I would eat those Doris, as you can tell marmalade dose nothing for me either, DH loves it and say's I don't know what I'm missing. You did the same as I did Doris, it's not Iris that just came, to the party with the sherry, it's isis. How did you come up with your name isis?????
Anyway pleased to meet you Notherner and isis and glad you could come to the party. I think we'll soon be going to Australia for a bar-b, at its_me_laura's place, I think she's getting things ready for us. Have you tried talking the Aussie slang that she left for us to try?
Oh darn I forgot about the carmel brownies. You know Doris I think I gained 5lbs just thinking abut those delicious deserts you just mentioned. ha ha ha!!!!!!
I will e-mail the recipes, if someone will put them up. I have them on the computer, but do not know how to switch them to this site and my fingers won't do that much typing today.
hi there!
circular quay (pronounced key) is the name of the suburb in sydney where the ferry boats are and the big bridge!
yep almost ready for the bar.b.que..... keep your eye out gang!
Laura
Flowerpot!! I will miss you awefully!
I am planning the bbq.... it wont be long and I hope it will be an nice surprise for you all....just a couple more days too............. ah that would give it away.... in the mean time practice your lingo....
Bonza! great! excellent!

krykie!! goodness me! or wow!
so there you have it... girls? if you havnt made your cork hat yet there are a bag of corks over by the big old tree and also some acubra hats ( like the ones from the man from snowy river) also some string..... so while your chatting make your hats and space the corks about and inch and a hlaf apart.....

LauraX
Marcia I think Doris, might know how to put them on this site, I don't know how to put my pictures on yet either but I'll learn. I have a scanner and everthing I can print pictures and I can e-mail them but haven't figured out the other. Maybe she'll be here today and we can ask her, being she has some receipe's we want from her as well. djm906 where are you, we want to ask you a question?????
Laura I'm getting excited here, what are you planning over there. We'll have to change our sleeping habits when we go to visit Laura. I wonder what she has planned mmmmmmmmmm
well, iris seems like quite a proper tea party lady. i don't think i mind being confused with her! Isis is an egyptian goddess. it was also a saturday morning live-action tv show in the early seventies. honestly, she's not my favorite egyptian goddess (yeah, i have favorites!), but i love the name!
how 'bout you, flowerpot? [you're a wonderful hostess, btw! this thread is making me feel very welcome here]. where'd you get your name? does anyone call you Flo P? you could be the mistress of ceremonies, rather than hostess. Flo P, the Tea MC!
My name's Flo P
The lady with da Tea
uh huh. uh huh.
Here's my pot
Do ya need a drop?
Coz I'm the one
The only one
The one and only
FLO P!!!!!!!!!!
[scratch scratch scratch]
well, this explains why def records isn't returning my phones calls. STILL, i know tea party rap is a cutting edge, no matter what dr. dre says!
*giggle* *smile*
isis that was a wonderful song you wrote. LOL No, no one has called me Flo P until now. I don't recall the tv show!!
My name came from when DH and I lived in a condo and weren't aloud to garden, so we had a garden on our upper deck. We got cement blocks, and some barn boards, made shelves out of them, then went to yard sales and our families, and collected all kinds of containers, you could plant flowers in. We even had morning glory's growing up the wall, and I haven't had that much success with morning glory's since. We live in a house now, and we can garden all we like, but I still like to have flower pots all around as well. So hence the name flowerpot!!!! I was also lucky no one had picked it. Isis I'm glad you feel comfortable here, you'll have to come with us to Laura's bar-b-que she's planning a surprise. I heard you giggle Laura!!!!!!!!!
Hey isis!! I remember the show(my girls used to watch it)ok ok ok me too. I think you're onto something with the rap song. You could make Flo P (scratch scratch) really famous!giggle giggle. ps. what are the corks on a hat for?
Sand, Laura said there to keep the flies, out of your eyes, at least in the country........Flo..P LOL
and i thought they were simply a frivolous fashion statement! well, can we paint the corks? practical+decorative, y'know...
i will paint mine a lovely moss green, to complement the yellow in mon chapeau.
i need inspiration! pass the sherry, please...
Sorry to say I don't have a scanner yet. Soon! It's all I can do to get this stupid machine to work! When the printer wouldn't work last night, I called it stupid, too, so it shot out the entire stack of printing paper at me! Then it made an awful noise. (I think it was trying to snicker). So I unplugged it! It will soon learn who is in control here! Hopefully we can find a way to get these recipes!
oh, djm, don't wonder about who's the boss, you or your computer equipment. it's the equipment. trust me. the only reason it reacts the way it's 'supposed to' when you pull the plug is so you relax, let down your guard and re-plug. then, of course, you are at its mercy.
good luck.
paint your corks! great idea..... and it will keep you busy wile I put the finishing touches on the bbq....
now I have the chops... snags.... prawns......dead horse....(sauce).........hmmmmmm
Well I think IRIS might be able to come to our rescue, she so good at all her birds and animals that she post's maybe if we ask real nice, and I take back everything I thought about her HAT, she might post the receipe's for us. I'M SORRY IRIS I REALLY DO LOVE YOUR HAT! Would you please!!!!!!! be a sport and post the receipe's for us? She's very busy, this week because, she's doing a lot of plant trading, and getting ready for company on the weekend. So maybe next week I hope, hope, hope!!!!
Doris I've just got to learn some more things about this machine, I can't make it do half of what it's capable of.
Hey gang are you ready for this my mouth is watering just reading it. Here is Marcia's recipe for SNICKERDOODLES. yummy warm up the tea we are going to enjoy this.
SNICKERDOODLES
Read tips at the bottom first.
1 cup shortening (part butter or margarine)
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs
2 3/4 cups flour
2 tsp.cream of tartar
1 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
2 TBS sugar
2 tsp cinnamon
Heat oven to 400* (mod. hot). Mix shortening , 1 1/2cups sugar, eggs thoroughly. Measure flour by dipping method or by sifting. Blend flour, cream of tartar, soda and salt: stir in. Shape dough in 1" balls. Roll ball in a dish holding the mixture of 2 TBS sugar and cinnamon. Place 2" apart on ungreased baking sheet. Bake 8-10 minutes. These cookies puff up first, then flatten down. Makes about 6 doz.
Note: Sift the flour and soda- soda lumps together and is bitter
For holidays: I substitute the appropriate colored sugar for 1/2 of the sugar that is used in the coating..
