LauraXX
Tea Party
Iris I wouldn't think of picking on your hat it's really quit lovely and Yellow,(to myself where are my sun glasses)and the flowers are beautiful(to myself again, Mother Nature's got nothing on her)ha ha ha Well I hope you had a nice nap.(good thing Iris is my friend or I'd never get away with what I think of her hat) Thank you Sand I think everybody just felt like getting out of their garden clothes, and dressing up a little they all left the real world outside for a while, isn't it lovely and peaceful here? Tootsie your punch is wonderful,I especially like the taste of the sherbit in it and what a nice bowl. Did you like the popovers? Oh look everyone Laura has made all these daisy chains for us. We'll make some room on the table and everyone come and get one. Thank you Laura they're lovely, please help yourself to some tea and goodies. Well ladies I think we might have to stay inside because it looks like rain again.
LOL, I guess the color "can" make peoples eyes squint a bit, I dont really think about it seeing as I'm wearing it and not looking at it ~ ( To myself , he hehehe she's squinting again! )As for " Mother Nature" , Well, She's got a few more colors then I do ( to myself~ Seeing she thinks so much of the flowers,I'll just add some more and really impress her ha ha ha , I know, I'll go get some of Laua's Daisy Chains and add them on to my hat ! ) Tootsie, I just had sme of that punch, It was great! Boy, Was I thirsty!! .. Well, I got a good nap, Now, I'm all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed! Well, I guess it's time to go inside before the rain comes, Lets all gather up the stuf and bring it in.
mmmmmmmmmm love the pitter patter of rain... so comforting...
Laura
It really is comforting, makes you just want to snuggle up and read a good book or a least look like you're reading and just kind of fall off into dream land. But you know what else it makes me want something sweet and gooie preferable with some chocolate on it. mmmmmmmmm
Are you all inside now or are you still outsid?e. Too nice to be indoors. Fancy a game of something? Flowerpot can you move that tree please, just a little further away from the other one, so that I can hang up the hammock. Boy do I feel lazy after all that food, especially the rose petal jam and all that crusty bread!! The rest of you can play croquet on the lawn if you wish, but please do it quietly, no giggling or anything like that - I'm plumb tuckered out!!
Yes Louisa we came in because of the rain and there's some thunder as well. If you like, you could curl up by the window, on the setee and I'll give you a throw so you won't get a chill from the dampness and have a little nap. Some of us are doing some hand work on dollie's and some are knitting baby sweater's we've heard there's some new Babies amongest us and some more to come. Did you bring any hand work so you can join in after you rest. Well I'll go get the throw be back in a sec.
I'm a great knitter and must leave the party soon so that I can start something for baby Ben - if you hear a lot of noise it will be me clicking and clacking away. I knit faster than I type you know...lol!!
Hey, Theres a lot of knitting going on here! ~ I don't know how to knit!!! I know how to crothet tho! Aw heck, Watching everyone do crafts is making me sleepy (Yawn) I think it's time for another nap, Do you have an extra throw flowerpot?
I did a little crochet work a long time ago. Think I might start again. I'm yawning too Iris!!
Yup I got another throw I'll get you, must be the rainy weather making everyone sleepy. I'm not good at either, if I can't glue it or wire it I can't do it. Here's the throw Iris. What all are you making little Ben Louisa?
I brought a pile of quilting squares I have to get sewn together. Log Cabin. I'm trying to finish this quilt by Christmas. I promised one to my daughter in law last year, and hope I can get it done this year! I think this chocolate icing and smeared whipped cream gives it character, don't you? (Kinda hard to eat while doing quilting!) Ooops, spilled some of that lovely orange punch in my lap! Louisa! How much sherry did you put in that trifle????? I think this needle has 2 eyes in it, can't seem to thread it!
Iris you can do some painting, I have some nice smooth stones, that you could do some wonderful pictures on. Why, I even have some paints and brushes, in the other room if you'd like. It's so much fun, to create when you can chit chat at the same time and not to yourself.he he he.
Hey Doris wondered where you got to. That's great are you going to sew all those squares together by hand. Could you tell us a little, about the design and how, it's going to go together. I'm not a sewer so I'd like to know. Would you like to borrow my glasses, I can't see the hole either.
djm - I promise I only used a little sherry so you can't blame your sloppiness on the trifle. Lets face it, you probably had a little shot before coming to the party and I don't know how you are going to get the quilt finished at this rate!! Does Iris paint? Well I think I will make Ben an Aran sweater first and then matching hat and bootees because he will need something really warm for his first cold winter.
geesh, thank you iris and flowerpot, i also have a orange dreamcicle cake that will make your eyes roll back in your head, he he. i can't sew or knit but i can sing a good rendition of the yellow rose of texas :). i was in 5th grade and the school was doing a variety show in the gym( all students and parents welcome) well, i said i would not only sing along with the record of yellow rose of texas, but do the soft shoe and twirl my baton! i was on cloud 9 when the music started and i began to sing, twirl my baton, and do the soft shoe :) whada gal! and then the unthinkable happened, yep it's true, ugh, i droped my baton :( in front of the whole audience lol :( i kinda soft shoed to the back of the stage and behind the curtain, but the crowd loved me anyway and clapped their little hearts out!! now girls let's go around all of us to see what other childhood stories we can muster up????now that we're all comfy and cozy :)
Flowerpot, my sister signed me up for a quilting class, against my wishes because I didn't want to learn how to make quilts. so here I am, making quilts. This pattern is called Log Cabin. You start with a 2 inch red square, then make a pile of 1 and a quarter inch strips, whatever colors, and start sewing around the side of the square til you get about a 6" sqaure. (Some of mine were bigger and some smaller because I didn't have the patience to measure! So now I have to add another row or make it a bit smaller to get the 6" size. But I am about three forths done, then the trouble started. Had I done what I knew I should have, I would be finished with the top! The instuctor said not to worry about mistakes, because it makes the quilt more valuable. At that rate, mine should be priceless! Louisa, You don't think I would take a wee nip before I came to the party, do you? heh heh heh. I have honest face! heh heh. Speaking of sweaters, when my first grandson was born I started a lovely sweater, kinda got sidetracked and then daughter said it would be too small. so took it apart and started over in a year size. Well, put it down and didn't get back right away. Discovered maybe I'd better try for size 2. This went on for 3 years and by then I was up to size 4. Then my grand daughter was born, started it all over again. Never got finished. Now 10 years later, I hauled out the unfinished pattern again for a new grandson, I'll wait til I finish quilt, I think!
Yeh I knew someone would know the words to yellow rose of Texas. I thought for sure Eyes would come out strumming a guitar and singing the song for us. Tootsie your bad that sounds sinful orange dreamsicle cake mmmmmmmmmm. Okay childhood memories. I was always a bit of a tomboy, and loved do play sports, just like the boys and I could hold my own pretty good, but there was one thing, I couldn't do and that was get down out of a tree, I could get up alright but my sister always had to go get my Mom to talk me down.
Doris that sounds like a lot of work and you sound like me if I can't do it in five minuetes I don't want to do it. My Mom and my Sister are the sewers in my family. Louisa that sounds like a lot of work to but when you enjoy doing things like that it's a pleasure right. Yes Iris paints very nice things.
oh Doris I forgot to tell you about my Mom she to tried making me a sweater it took her a year to make it, I got to wear it a few times and THEN my Mom washed It. Yup it was pre acrilyic and my baby brother got it after that, good thing it was blue. LOL
I can paint! folk art actually..... have you an old bucket or watering can?? I can paint bright daisies or maybe some old world roses....
childhood memories.. performing.. hmmm yes we were sitting in a circle and taking turns to read.. it soon came my turn and I had practiced very hard all that week! Up I stood and began to read and all of a sudden the elastic in my nickers gave way and down they came! hahahaha I creid then but I laugh now...... funny how I forgot what the story was! wahahahahahahah
Laura
If Louisa can spare some of that clay from her brick factory I would love to sculpt a statue of the garden party. Maybe a relief that we can hang on a shed wall. But first could someone pass me something chocolate please, I need a chocolate fix!
ROFL Doris.....you must finish that sweater. Sheesh 10 years....lol!! Zany please come and take some of my clay....pleeeeaaase!!
Well it seem's like we have a lot of talent coming out here, Laura I have some watering cans that look so bare, would you like to put some bunny's on one, and I really like ferns are they hard to do? Bunnies and ferns that sounds like a nice picture. The other one's just what ever you like.
Zany welcome to the tea party we've decided to do creative things while the weather is bad and we can't go outside. That would be great to have a statue or a relief if Louisa gives you enough clay why not both. I didn't know Louisa had a brick business and they actually make the bricks that's interesting. Zany there's lots of chocolate because I think we have a few chocolate aholicks here including myself ha ha ha.
tiredwabbit are you here I want to ask you something, hum, I wonder where she is. Farmgirl21 she didn't stay very long, hope she feels alright maybe to much chocolate. Has anyone seen old_rose, I thought I saw her coming down the street, maybe she'll be back.

Here we go again....ROFL......Go take a look at the hydrangea forum and Ree's remark!! Now the second laugh of the morning - wow!! just fantastic - louisa now has a brick factory.......on my gosh....too funny!!!
yes of course!
bunnies are a favoirite of mine and ferns no problem....
perhaps one day you all would like to come to my house for a good old ossie bar-b-que???
you would have to learn a few local slang words and throw a shrimp on the barbie but I am sure you could manage.. what do you think?
Laura
MMMMMM I really needed that chocolate! Thank you so much.
LOL Louisa, and how is that brick work coming along? Last I heard you were thinking of turning it into Lasagna beds!
And Laura! I can just picture you standing there looking like a Norman Rockwell painting with your knickers down!
Laura I'd love to come to Australia, it maybe the only way I'll get there, for now anyway. My customer was from Sydney, and she has a married daughter living over there now, but I don't remember where. I'm retired so I don't see her anymore to ask her. I'd like to cuddle one of your cute little (kowala)sp bears I tried looking up the spelling but couldn't find it in my dictionary. I think it's a relick. (hope you can figure out what I'm trying to spell). My DH watches the crocodile hunter all the time the guy's crazy. ha ha ha
I guess I haven't read enough of Louisa's post to get the joke about the bricks???????????????
Hey flowerpot - here are your words:- I didn't know Louisa had a brick business and they actually make the bricks that's interesting.
I don't have a brick business, just awful hard, clay, undiggable soil that would make wonderful bricks....lol!!
Not your fault, I didn't explain very well :-) Still funny though!!
Ohhhhhhh!!!! I just read Zany's message again, and she did say brick factory, that's where I got the idea that you actually made bricks. ha ha ha ha!!! Yah I hear you about clay in the soil, I'm lucky here, but I used to have to use a jack-hammer to break soil.
Hey there flowerpot,
Koala... you were soooo close but thats o.k.
There are petting zoo's where you can pat them.... they are cute but very smelly! hahah
Hey zany....I had a visual too! sooo funny.... hey if it works!!!could start a new fad! NOT!
Now just in case you all decide to pop over for that bar.b.que I think while we all sit here doing our knitting and such we can practice a little australian lingo!
Now repeat after me.... gidday mate! ows ya goin?
sheeel be right mate! yeah I'll have a pie and dead horse.. (tomatoe sauce)....little kipper (child)... a bit hows ya father ( a bit suspicious or not feeling to well)....
now give it a go girls and keep practicing... hahahaah
and as for that crocadile guy.... cant stand that guy! let me say right now... WE ARE NOT LIKE THAT! he is one psyco dude.....
we have him on cable atthe moment in a 12 hours non stop story of his life kinda thang..... he loves what he does though and he is dedicated and focused... he started doing that cos of his mum.. she was a dedicated enviromentalist and inspired him.. so good on him for that but his personality is so over the top.....hahahahaha
well keep practicing.... dont roll your r's and open your mouths..... OWS YA GOIN!
Laura
gidday mate ooooooows ya goin, 'he, 'he did I open my moooouth enough.Sheeel be right mate! yeah I'll have a pie and dead horse dose that mean (tomatoe sauce)?? KOALA yah that looks right. You know how sometimes, no matter how you spell it out, a word dosen't look right. Auh the Koala is so cute I didn't think he'd smell! I used to like to watch the crocodile hunter, when he first came on now he's just a little much. Yah he's on tv here a lot also. So it's Sunday already at your home, actually it's almost monday, because it's almost sunday here in another half hour give or take a few min. If you didn't mind the flight time a person can live the same day twice. Oh boy dose that make since????
Laura I read somewhere that he had married his co-star in Crocodile Dundee and that she became very much a country girl. I don't particularly like him either :-) flowerpot, you do have a lovely refined accent...lol!!
Hi Louisa the crocodile hunter's name is Steve and he and his wife capture croc's and move them to differant places, for health reason's of the croc's. This guy is nuts, he's not the Ausie in Crocodile Dundee I like him. This guy goes after deadly snakes, and picks them up takes to many risks if you ask me. He's on the television alot. Thanks I practised real hard to get the accent down. Whole new set of words "eh" (that's my Canadian accent "eh")
Excellent accent!!!!!!!! now come on girls!!!!!!!!!
give it a go!
Oh and maybe you could make some hats with corks around so the flys keep out of your face? well out in the bush anyways.
yes that crocodile guy is paul hogan and he is just an actor.. yes he had an affair with his co-star and left his wife of about 30 years behind for her. That didnt go down too well over here.. though it happens a lot of course but he was a bit of an icon at one stage and so now he doesnt have much to do with australia..... and they him unfortuantly. He was discovered on the sydney harbour bridge.. he was a painter... they paint that all year round! by the time they get to one end it has been so long they have to start back again.... can you imagine???
He was very much what we call an 'Occer" pronounced OKA........
there are differnt sounding accents over here like over there and the rough out doors type or country folk tend to be more........ ummmmm....... abrasive in their language.. colourful... thise of us closer to town are a little softer around the edges..but all ozzies together.
now for lesson two:
nah! meaning no.
warrick farm ( under the arms) I will use it in a sentence... ay! its a bit wiffy under the warick farms! translation.... you need deodorant!
Bonza!!! means good or great!
Me olds are cumin over! translation.... my parents are coming for dinner....
so, give that a go.... that along with a corked hat, a shrimp on the barbie, your blue jeans, check shirt and a beer and you'll be right mate!
Laura
Now I remember that guy and the crocs. Bit of an abrasive character but seemingly does great work and you have to give it to him - he's pretty brave!! lol Laura, how am I going to remember all that!! Here's a bit cockney London:- Apples and pears - stairs! Trouble and strife - wife!
Many more, but can't remember them but then I'm not a Cockney!!
Wow that's a pretty long bridge, would it be a bit scary crossing on a windy day? Do you ever go down to the harbour to see all the ships that come in. They must be from absolutely every where. My DH before I knew him came to your country in 1984 on a trip with the Ford Motor Company. They went to New Zealand first then to Australia, Melbourne and Sydney were the to cities they went ,he said he liked Melbourne very much, their last stop before home was Fiji. Laura we just looked you up on our globe, your a long ways away. I read a book a long time ago about a priest who was in love and they had a child Richard Chamberlin stared in the movie it took place to start in New Zealand then they went to Australia (help me think of the book) The point being they discribe both places so well I feel like I've been there myself. After compeleting the book, in the travel section of our paper there was an artical on both places and I knew exactly what they were talking about. That was a very long time ago so some day I'd like to see it with my own eyes. Please tell us some more. Do you like my hat, do I have enough cork hanging? You're into spring now aren't you?
Hey, has it stopped raining? I want to sit in the sun and get my feet nice and brown, especially the bits that are white due to my sandals!! Ok - bring out the lemonade and get this party going again!!
Yes the sun has come out it's a little cool but it would be nice to be outside again. I have a lovely swing under my arbour, it'll hold three people. The hydrangea vine climbing up it is getting quit big now and keeps it ever so cool back there, along with the tree's. So please enjoy the peacefulness back there. The little chicadee's are so busy eating this morning they are so cute and friendly. Then there's the beautful Blue Jays, but so noisie and bad, but they're back at the feeders for winter I guess. Louisa I thought you were going to say golfers feet, ha ha My Dad is a golfer and when he takes his socks off,he has white feet and brown legs, he looks like he still has his socks on.LOL
Flowerpot you must mean "Thorn Birds". That was quite a while ago. I can't remember the author. I have always wanted to visit Australia, too. I have to win the lottery first though. I'm hungry again(always)hehe Some cookies would go good right now. I've got some snickerdoodles fresh from the oven to share, if anyone's interested. And I know what you mean about taking off the socks and having white feet. LOL
