In the 90's here, I know my sistahs in Texas are suffering worse, unless a rain cools you all down some.

Cindy, then in that case, your mum's truly needs 24 hr. monitoring if she thinks she's half her age! I wouldn't even attempt to trim anything taller than my height, let alone go up on a roof.

Gonna try to catch up on the book of James... preparing for a class tomorrow.. reading the People series got me side tracked :D Bad me...

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

It's 104 here. I'm so glad Mom and I left early this morning to do our shopping. Lowe's has some of the neatest yard ornaments. I found some really cute things to put around the pond when I get it finished. Got a cobblestone mold to make walkway through the gardens. Have an old cement mixer that my grandpa made sure hope it still works ^_^. Got 8 plastic totes at Wal-Mart, packing things to go out in my shed as I don't have enough room in my craft room for everything. Will be busy all day tomarrow.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

oh geeeeeeeze it's hot for you, in the south! It's only 84 here and the humidity's only 29, so I can just imagine what you must be going through!
I feel badly for the elderly, and the very young.....my prayers for them.

Went to Wally World, and got some cute flower & butterly yard lights :-) 5 of them in a set. I'm going to put them in my backyard, which is Starting to shape up.
Watering the new grass seed 2x/day. It WILL GROW for me lol I's determined it will!

Bought the cutest fat frog for my yard - on it's back, with a big flower on the tummy lol Because of clearance prices, it was only $10!

Boy, when I'm finished, I really am going to enjoy my tiny backyard escape....it'll probably take 2 more years, though lol
I have big plans for the tiny space, and it's a work-in-progress.........

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

Ugh somebody find out what fire ants don't like that I can take or put on before going out to work in yard my poor left foot toes and foot itch like the dickens thank goodness for benadryl

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Cindy Where did you find the cobblestone mold????? I want to get one!!!
I had not even finished my morning coffee when I found mom headed for the saw with a board in hand.....she let me do that one, but later found her cutting things again!!!! She let me do the nailing that needed done.

Moved the Rhubarb leaf birdbath to the front of the yard near the squirrel feeder... got some plantings done around that.....finished planting the last four pots of sedum into the various beds and transferred some from mom's back yard to the front beds. I got a double shepherds hook on sale at Freddies along with a thistle feeder bag and seeds for the Goldfinches....I think they are such beautiful little birds and want to keep them coming around...

The next project is I want to put in a rose bed in back of the birdbath and transfer the four miniture rosebushes......think I have finally convinced mom that the Rhodie and the Roses do not like each other and really need to be separated....

Hope everyone has a good evening....I need to feed the fish and grab a cup of coffee before it is time to leave for church.

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Trisha, I got the mold at Lowe's it was $12 and some change. Been wanting one for a long time. When I was in Oregon, Sissy had made a small area with one for her fish pond. Really neat looling. I think I'm going to add color to make mine greenish color.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

cobblestone mold? Hmmmmmmmm I picked some rhubarb today, and got a couple of good leaves. I'd like to make stepping stones from them, but all I have is Plaster of Paris, and that wouldn't be weather-proof, would it?!?!

Anyone know how to make stepping stones from the leaves?

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Hey Susan, Phyllis is an expert at this too... Think she made one into a birdbath.. and she made one for LK too.
Pretty sure if Trisha returns early, she'd might post the 'recipe'.
No rhubarb leaves, but I do have 2 giant EEs coming up.

Sorry for disappearing on y'all. Lots of reading tonight, and these old eyes are truly tired.

Will just call it a night. See you all in the morning.

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Thanks Cindy I will go looking!!

Susan, go here and they can tell you everything there is to know about cement leaves!!

http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/533171/

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Thank you - I'll go there right away!
Guess I'll need to get a bag of cement lol

Coushatta, LA

good night everyone...sleep well...

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

It really is a lot of fun....I want to make a bench to go next to my pond ! For the seat you place
two leaves on a piece of plywood with the points overlapping, put a layer of concrete1- inches thick....add reinforcing wire....then another layer of concrete.....shaping the concrete to the shape of the leaves......haven't decided what I want to do for the base yet....

Going to call it a night, talk to everyone tomorrow.....have a good night.

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

great pics Kim
gee I sure don't miss the construction traffic of Northern Illinois LOL..is that on 90 your workin on?

lovely day lily and the one falling off the trellis is a clematis very pretty you might try taking a lil bit of string and tying it up some and when you have time try to take the branches and weave them into the trellis so it keeps going up

Not sure on the one you say might be a herb ...post it on the plant id forum and someone can tell you what it is
it reminds me of Lions Tail but the one I had last year was a yellow

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Trisha,
Here is a couple of pix of the cobble stone mold. If you go to Lowe's to get it, it will be where the bags of concrete are. Thought I'd save you the trouble of walking around the whole store like I did. Should have know ^_^

That is pretty Cindy,i have some Gladiolas mixed bulbs that i got from walmarts, but i didn't plant them i wish i did.I have them in the house so maybe they will stay good.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Hey Phyllis, how are your ant bites? Try putting some msg on them! Make a paste out of it, and apply.
My knee is still swollen, but doing OK. I go to the Dr. on the 22nd, to ge the 3 stitches taken out, and probably start therapy then? I spend most of the day on the sofa, with the ice pack, then taking a nap! I have never taken so many naps in my life. Geesh, I sit back on the sofa, and next thing I know it is 2 - 3 hours later! Just another sign of getting old I guess?

Later

LK

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

LOL, LK... I sit down at the computer and 2-3 hours pass before I know it... sheesh... getting nothing done around here.

I haven't been on DG much lately, because I'm reading all the material I'm going to need to know about my new position with AFS... being the Support Coordinator for the Area Team entails more than I knew when I accepted the position... but I should be able to handle it.
I'm suppose to meet the Support Trainer in a couple weeks, she'll get me up to speed, hopefully before the new batch of kids arrive.

Best get up now and try to get some cleaning done... time has passed so quickly that I didn't even realize it's already Sunday... I'm so behind on everything... I hate it when that happens.

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

So BJ, does that mean you won't have time to join swaps anymore??? Bummer :(
LK, did you read my post in the other room about Wal-Mart?

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Hey LK - glad to hear your knee is getting better - must be a relief to be able to do more, again!

BJ - I know what you mean about time flying..... My mom will be here is less than 2 weeks, and I haven't finished clearing the den for her bed lol And I have a WHOLE bunch of clearing out of old/don't-fit-me-anymore clothes and LAUNDRY to do!!!!!!!! Guess I'd better get off chat, and go DO IT! (I need a round tuit!)

-Susan-

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Thanks Cindy!

LK, glad things are going well with your knee....

BJ, we been missing you here....

Just got back from our bike ride....stopped along the road for awhile and watched an Eagles nest along the highway.....so cool and such Huge Birds!!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

oh oh........ large hail & damaging winds are coming. Rain has started, and the winds are picking up....
I put the gazing balls, and cushions away, and moved the potted tomatoes to underside of our old fir tree. Everything else will have to take it as it comes.......

Guess this gives me the opportunity to do some cleaning, and to bake up the rhubarb I picked yesterday. I want to make a rhubarb custard pie. Does anyone else know about this type of pie? It seems to me that everyone knows about Strawberry Rhubarb pie, but not the Custard one.........

I still have to complete the getting ready of the den for my mom's arrival on the 1st.

Update - my goodness - it was a "blow-by". We got a bit of rain (we Always Need It), and now the sun's come out. I guess other parts of the city are getting it, but we're obviously lucky!

btw - my neighbour is so pessimistic - my hip is bothering me today, and she says "if you aren't having to see a chiropractor to 'put it back' then it's likely arthritis, and you'll need a hip replacement in a couple of years" M'thinks she's been a nurse in a perpetual care facility for waaaaaaaaaay too long, and sees the negative in every ache & pain lol I think it's just a bit of aching when I do too much, or bend incorrectly. It DID wake me up this am @ 6 (after 3 hrs sleep) and I took IB for it, and when it wasn't totally fine in 1 1/2 hrs I took some more. And Slept! Means I missed service this am, but it was a bit too sore to be over-doing........and I obviously needed the sleep lol

Cindy your glad picture is gorgeous. Any chance of seeing the ddep red one in back? I just love them...

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Hello everyone!
It's hot all day and no relief. Mosquitoes are having 'body' reunions here. Or they must be working for a blood bank.
How are you today LK? Hope with all the naps, you are still able to sleep at night.
Flaming Kim!!! So good to see you! Thank you for bringing us along with you to work! You must start very early in the morning, as I see headlights on. Be careful out there please.
Beautiful tree, Kim. Can you tell me what it is? Love the foliage.
Cindy, when you're through making those cobblestones, make some for me. I like that pattern. But.. I take the easy way out.. just buy the ready made ones.
BJ, you do find ways to keep yourself busy! Wow, impressive..
Support Coordinator. The organization will certainly benefit having you with them.
Susan, your neighbour sounds like my MIL. Share with her what's ailing you, she'd volunteer the cures and most of the time, requiring invasive surgery! (Sigh) One day, she'll suggest purchasing a burial insurance!!
Never had rhubarb. So, can't help you there on custard!
Hi Barb! How is Norm doing? Got this to share with ya.. I've been 'doodling' with EQ5!!! Boy, no more coloring on paper!
Cody, I hope you are feeling better. Stay cheerful.. this world can have it's share of inconsiderate people. Don't let that change your personality.
