Garden Photos of '09... # 34

Port Washington, NY(Zone 7a)

on PlantFiles it says:

Possibly the smallest mophead cultivar. It grows quite slowly. Flowerheads are equally small, sepals pointed and tightly set, sometimes different sizes. The color is usually red with a white eye but can be blue to blue-violet in acid soil.
Minimal cold hardiness; often devastated by spring frosts. Leaf spot susceptible, one author notes that it may revert to tall - growing type.
AKA: 'Piamina', 'Comet', 'Winning Edge', 'Pink Elf (TM)'
'Pia' is a dwarf; it would be very suitable in a pocket garden or in a container.

I've only had it for a year. I bought it with several other dwarf plants and shrubs at a Botanical Garden sale. It's supposed to stay smaller than 2'x2'.
Thanks Donniebrook, I guess I'll see about whether it stays small or if it reverts.

Thanks for the info on Pia, Dyane! It would really fit the bill for me in my new garden, but I think I'm in the wrong zone for it. I'm in the hunt for a zone 5 "smallish" blue or pink hydrangea that likes shade.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Your laugh for the day. The bottom edge of the garden shed roof is 6 feet tall. This 'Pacific Giant' is heading for Pluto (snort). 8-9 feet maybe? Looks pretty wanky.

joann do you need some help?

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Wow! Great pics, everyone! I love all the DL's and other lilies.

Too much to look at everything, as I'm so far behind and too tired. Been working my butt off to get things done here as I've been off all week, and great gardening weather for the most part. Been getting a lot done, though not as much as I'd hoped. I do this every year, and it always surprises me that I can't get it all done. I must think I'm Wonder Woman or something. Then reality hits. I would need a month off from work to get it all done. LOL! You guys know how it is. Oh, to be retired early and wealthy. Hello, lottery!!!!!

Shelly, welcome back! I've missed you.

Ohhhh yeah
Heres another collage from today ,some cheap pot dahlias from Lowes and a "didnt know where to plant it) container.
The coleus is Swiss Sunshine spreader and the dark one is Dexter,I'll take cuttings from that this fall, and assorted Caladiums, how lucky with the color scheme there.

- Thank you DonnieBrook, nice to see you again as well. Very elegant potting shed you have there, big enough to double as a small guest cottage! ☺

Anita - Wow....that's a heap of beautiful blooms!!!

Watercan - pretty Scentamental! Like that name too.

JoAnn - nice collage....I have Swiss Sunshine too....it is so easy, it goes back and forth from Fla. to NH every trip. It blends so nicely with other coleus and caladiums too. Very nice!
