Garden Photos of '09... # 34

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I placed some of the small stones and moved a big one and realized I just cant do it.
It's a 2 person job.
This is the piece work from this AM

This is a Photoshop pasted view of my idea for the rest of the stone ,plus paths in the garden.
Looks like some sledge hammer work will be needed.

looks nice louise - like that wall in front of the daylilies and the brick patio - burning bushes will come back fast - i trim mine down every spring and maybe once more if needed.

Great gift, Jo Ann---but those stones are very heavy! Looked back at Blueberry Candy, & it's not---it's Blueberry Cream. Victor, Rose of Sharon is blooming already? To me, it's a summer's almost over sign! Here is Carnival Mask...

This is as far as I got with the stack of flaggstones.

This is what I did with the small pieces.
Widened the end of the walk. My garden cart wheels were too wide and kept running over plants.

That's interesting, that's how my hibiscus should look on this date, this year, but I'm at least 3 weeks from the first bloom happening yet. Nice blue Chiffon color!

I do have one, ‘Fragrant Perfume’, rose bloom in full display now, while four other buds are waiting in line. This bush is getting cut back to 3-4’ this Fall, it’s approaching 6’ now.

I find these ‘Sweet Freedom’ roses much more fragrant than Fragrant Perfume above, but the flowers don’t last as long, 3-4 days tops and it drops it’s flowers when they’re finished within an hour, the flowers never get a chance to become ‘unsightly’.

This one year old Clematis ‘Gravetye’ vine is coming into full swing now. It reminds me of my clematis Julia Correvon because it spreads just as aggressively, this bloom is 2” in diameter, but it makes up for it in quantity.

Of course I’ve got my ‘Stargazer’ coming up, along with a couple of others which should open in about a week.

And finally I’ve got the end of season sale Dahlias, which I picked up at the Nursery at a 2 for 1 sale last Thursday with each “one” having 4 plants. Got 8 plants for less than 4 bucks. I still can’t believe they were throwing away the hanging baskets while I was shopping!

WateringCan I just love those Stargazer Lilies, popular with good reason!

JoAnn your Lilies are looking lovely.

Victor, I love Blue Chiffon.

Hi Victor! Thanks, just took that one this am.

Edit: ( I agree DyanesGarden, they are one of the most flamboyant, and easy to find too!)

Nice. How old is your Pia?

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Thanks Victor, Allison, Shelly and Bill!

Nice shots, Watercan! Glad to see you posting!!

JoAnn - yikes - I see a chiropractor in your future! What a great gift though! I love bluestone!

Dragonfly - lovely shots!

Allison - floopy (teehee) or not, your PDDs look really pretty. I'm encouraged to see yours; mine is only a year old and I was just wondering if I should move it away from the shastas; it has several blooms, but it's still pretty small. I want to re-do the bed in front of our porch; it gets full sun and I think I'm going to put my cones in that bed with some other summer bloomers.

Dyane - your containers are gorgeous!! Does your Pia stay small?

Victor - that blue hibiscus is very pretty!
