Let's get Page 3 going, we come from http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/998120/ . Now we can deal with the Summer long views.
Keep 'em coming.
This is my Death Valley, completely re-done 2 years ago. This garden dries out a day after heavy rain, really. It must be the Lilac and/or the Rose of Sharon that suck up all the moisture, they have been there for many years.
This garden is on a front corner of my lot by the street, my yard is on the left.

The Long View 2009 #3
nice selection of plants
Thanks, GE. The only 'new' plants in there are my own Day Lilies from hand pollinated seed (the red and tall yellow). There is color in there from Crocus to frost. The day lilies are just starting, balloon flower and white liatris next week with dahlias any time now.
I left the wild daisies in too long, they smothered a gaillardia and the primrose.
Here it was as they built a new house next door. A new sewer line went in, only the bushes survived.
Hmmm, make that 3 years ago.

I have a garden like that, started a lazagna in April, should have waited until next year and rototilled composted topsoil in, its clay and the garden from hell to put a spade in. I tend to plant things where its easy to dig ,in the gardens along the other side of the yard/
Kassia, your gardens are more expansive than mine. Better looking, too.
GE, I was determined to make Death Valley work, it was my first here and never did well. It's along the street so it has to be nice.
These rocks came out of that little bed, no wonder it never flourished. This entire city block used to be a sand & gravel pit. The builder removed the rocks and provided some extra top soil. He was shocked at the pile, he said I could toss them there, lol.
I added lots of compost, too.
Nice garden, Andy.
nice shots Willy, Andy & Kassia!!!
wow Andy your soil looks worse than mine was... powdery huh?
Its still dark or I would be photoing the garden-from-hell.
so many blooms Kassia... looks great
Kassia, if those are what I call Wild Daisies (they smell bad) get rid of them as soon as they pass peak bloom or you will be inundated with them next year ~ believe me. Yank them out.
I like the color of your Hens & Chicks. I think it's all the rain that forces them to flower. My plain green ones will bloom soon as well with plain green flowers, lol. The mother plant dies after the flowers fade.
GE, is that the lasagna garden?
Andy P
joann you crack me up - give it some time it will come along - nice lilly's
That is indeed the lazagna garden.
I am going to spread composted top soil on it this fall.
how much? get enought to make it a raised bed 6" high and it will be the garden bed of heaven :) it needs some stone too:)
I'll get 2 yards and do all the gardens. Stone?
What stone?
Andy, I planted tons of seeds of Shasta daysies and black eye susans on my first year, all those are from seeds... I love them... I planted some more last year and I have one entire bed of both... some different varieties of Daysies like Crazy daysies, Fluffy (?) one... you name it... love it... and they really like the front of the house...
Andy, I love those succulents you gave me... look at just one clump... I spread them around this year...
Kassia, as long as they are NOT the wild Daisies. They reseed and take over.
A friendly neighbor took out almost half of one large clump of those Hens & Chicks with his snow blower last winter while clearing a path to my front door. I gathered the tattered remains after the snow melted and re-planted them, they are almost back to normal already. Tough little buggers, lol.
joann nice picture - what is the flower? i think i have one that i got from hcg last year that has not flowered for me yet. name escapes me at the moment.
Knipfohia(sp) Torch Lily
wha you have had one over winter? That gives me hope...
joann that's the one
meredith it did over winter - hoping with the trees that came down and the ones i took down there will be enough sun for blooms this year.
did i say sun - who am i kidding!
For some reason, torch lilies don't do well in my garden. :(
They love clay .
I have hope! : ) Thanks
They're one of the few plants I don't like.
Great shots and gardens, all.
love the goldfinch shot Ge!!!
I don't know if I like them so much, but I know hummers do! I will plant anything if they like it! I just picked up a Crocosmia Lucifer today. The hummer was on them like a fly on.... well you know. : )
I just planted one this year as well Meredith
My crocosmias are getting ready to bloom. Last year they werent much to see but the bulbs have multiplied and I thein the yellow ones might just come thru.
I have Licifer also, pix when it blooms.
i liked them in the pictures or i would not have ordered one. after i get a spike i'll know for sure if i like them or not.
