Garden Photos of '09 ... #29

Long Branch, NJ(Zone 7a)

Nutsfordaylily - I've been searching flea markets for an authentic wagon wheel I can put in my garden. I like that rustic look in yours.

I got a visitor this afternoon....

Looking great everyone. Love your wagon wheel, Nuts.

Victor, was the BF more yellow or white? It looks more yellow in the pic, so it's most likely a clouded(common) sulphur. If it's white it's a cabbage white.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Nice shots, Karen. I like the wheel too. Is Huskers Red invasive for you? It is for me.

Very nice, Tex. Love the hydrangea.

The photo is faithful, Jen. Mostly white, with some yellow. Suunto ID'd it as cabbage. Thanks. You are very good at ID's!

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

Karen great shots, Patches is very cute. My dd said he looks like a dalmation puppy. :)
Tex I love your Echies.

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

Nice shots, everyone!

Liking the Digitalis, Karen!! And the lupines.

Nice visitor, Tex .... longer, group shot looks great!

My Huskers have been very well behaved, Victor.

I'll post a pic of the veggie garden on the Edibles Thread, as that seems to be the only thing bursting forth at the moment. ^_^

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Thanks, guys!

The wagon wheel has been in the gardens for quite a few years. Don't know where my late mother got it.

Nice pics, Tex!

Meredith, your dd is half right. Patches is half Dalmatian and half Basset hound.

Victor, I've had Husker's red for about 4 years now, and so far it has not been invasive for me. Does yours spread by seed? I've also had the Chocolate eupatorium, which I believe it was you who said it was invasive. That one has not reseeded for me either. I guess you got lucky, Victor, or could be the other way around, depending on how you look at it. I wish both of those would spread more for me, as then I would have more to sell.

Yes - both spread by seeds.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Well, bring 'em on, baby, bring 'em on!

I've had Huskers for probably 15 years, divided it once, and just this past spring found it's first "volunteer." Not sure if I weed out all the seedlings, but seeing as how I almost never weed that bed, that seems unlikely.

I may weed out seedlings, though I don't really remember weeding that bed last year. Must have. Actually, seems to me that bed didn't have too many weeds in it last year. More this year, though, but not too bad. Pretty well packed, and that keeps the weeds down.

Great Pics all.... Too many to comment on all that I like!

Victor... Love the close up of the BF.

Karen.... Patches is tooooo cute.

Robin and Patti.... Yep, that's Salvia Black and blue. My favorite salvia. I had some 5 or 6 years back that I stuck in the ground like the rest of my salvias and it didn't come back. The next time I came across some and decided to try again, I made sand to be about 20% of my planting soil mixture so that they wouldn't sit in wet muck during the winter. This is the 3rd year that they've returned.

this wasn't as in focus as I would like due to being windy. But oh well......

Beautiful pictures everyone! Hi Karen; Are you a member of either PDS or NEDS? I make it to some of the meetings at Tower Hill. I have about 75 new arrival daylilies this year waiting to find their place in the ground and a handful of hosta. Now if the rain would stop I could get out there. Last year I had a tour here so the garden was nearly weed free. That isn't going to be the case this year.. lol!! I'm not sure about 7/19 just yet but I very much appreciate the offer to have me come meet you, other Dave's members and see your garden!

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Redchic, great orange alstroemeria with the dark purple foliage behind it. Love that combo. No pictures today again as it rained all day yesterday, again. Maybe I will try Black and Blue salvia again. Patti

wow and i thought i was keeping up on this thread - you guys went into hyper drive last night and this morning - great shots all

patti if you ever need to get rid on one of the dogs i think i would take one - love border collies:) do they herd up squirrels and chippies that would be an added benefit!

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

I am having to break out the Thesaurus so I don't sound so redundant with all these stellar photos and collages!

Trying to keep up on these threads is a fun challenge, though!

So many great things to see and ponder.

Nice views, gals! I see you are starting to fill in on the woodpile nicely, Jo Ann. I have always thought a stack of wood makes a great plant backdrop. So dark, really highlights colorful flowers in front of them.

I have some alstromeria seeds I should plant .... I wonder if those will last until next spring. Those orange ones look great, Shelly!

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Wha, My border collies don't herd them, rather they eat them when they catch them. No chippies in Nantucket, but squirrels. Unfortunately they don't pay heed to the beds and plants when they chase them, so I am not sure they would be welcome in your pristine garden or anyone's except ours. They also will dig under walls to get them which makes a huge mess. I tolerate their damage, but barely. Patches is wonderful as are Onewish1's adorable herd. Patti

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

you are right that would not work here:)
