The bulbs were very nice, BUT I was missing two (2) packages of mixed double daffodils. I immediately e-mailed Paradise Gardens and waited a couple of weeks for a reply. I then emailed them again. |
| Negative | PauletteM (1 review) | On Jan 17, 2005, PauletteM Winchester, VA wrote: Please do not shop at Paradise Garden. Although I see most comments are positive, my experience is quite negative. Last summer I ordered nearly $600.00 in peonies. I ordered whites and pinks for the garden I was planning. Paradise Garden did not have the plants I ordered so they substituted without asking me. In addition to sending some of what I ordered they took it upon themselves to send red and yellow colored peonies in place of what they lacked. I called several times and e-mailed to correct this or to get a refund and they ignored all attempts. I consider this dishonest and not to respond just rude. As I said some of what I ordered did arrive, but am out $150.00 for plants I did not want or order. |

You substituted "Shin Shichifujin" ( which is a pink-red) and "May Treat". for the one I ordered(which I okayed) However, I would like to know the color and style of "May Treat" . I can not find it listed. Hope to see them in the spring. Also hope at that time, I can get "Night Glow on the Sacred Mountain" which I originally ordered. Helen |

| Neutral | kokomo36 (2 reviews) | On Oct 19, 2004, kokomo36 Fairfield Bay, AR wrote: I ordered 25 peonies. Due to one variety being sold out, 2 others were sent in its place. They are very nice. The divisions of all are big and healthy with 3 to 5 eyes. Several have 6 and 7 eyes. Having had experience with peonies, I am well pleased with the quality. On July 3rd, 2007, kokomo36 changed the rating from positive to neutral and added the following: A few weeks ago I ordered three ACHILLEA filipendulina 'Fireland' and three ACHILLEA 'Moonshine'. The plants arrived on June 7 and the word shocked at the condition doesn't describe the "Fireland". They were broken and dried out to the point the limbs and foliage had turned black. One Moonshine was crushed due to another Moonshine plant being crammed down on top of it. I called the company and they sent one new Moonshine and replaced the three 'Firelands'. I have ordered many plants from Paradise and this order's condition was a complete surprise. They get a negative for the terrible condition of the three plants and the crushed one, and a positive for replacing the plants promptly. The replacements are doing well. Thus they get a neutral rating. The four hibiscus and the hollyhocks, ordered at the same time as the other plants, are doing well. I am very pleased with those plants and they get a positive for them. I will order from them again. |
| Positive | muler (1 review) | On Oct 18, 2004, muler Lawrence, United States wrote: I am a new customer with Paradise and am please both with the service and the quality of the plant itself. I ordered a Chinese tree peony. It arrived at the right time for planting and I noted that my request for arrival time was sent to the grower (Oakes Daylilies) and was heeded. The plant was carefully packaged and the instructions were excellent. I would not hesitate to order again from Paradise. |
| Positive | judebs (2 reviews) | On Oct 18, 2004, judebs Riverton, UT wrote: I ordered several daylilies in August. They arrived promptly and were in wonderful shape. Each plant was what other mail order companies I have ordered daylilies from would have considered 3 or 4 plants! They all have new growth already. I also received a bonus of an extra daylily with my order. I will definitely do business with them again! |

They were moist and quite large. I had ordered peonie plants. The information included with the peonies were for peonies and tree peonies. There was no indication as to whether the shipment were the plants or tree peonies. In spite of these minor concerns, I happily planted them over the weekend.I will reach out to this website for guidance. |
| Positive | wdartt (1 review) | On Oct 17, 2004, wdartt Saunderstown, RI wrote: Having not ordered peonies before, it's hard to comment regarding size, etc. However, the root structures looked very healthy and were still moist upon arrival. I have been doing business with Oakes Daylilies (HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM!!!)/Paradise Garden for a few seasons now and will continue to do so. |
| Positive | Twinney (1 review) | On Oct 14, 2004, Twinney Kirkland, WA wrote: I ordered by tree peony in the early summer and have been looking forward to the fall when I knew it would arrive. It came 2 days ago--the plant was larger than any I have bought in stores. I soaked the roots the first night & planted it yesterday and am looking forward to a beautiful plant. The other information they provided about peonies in general was very helpful. |

| Positive | gardenerammy (1 review) | On Oct 6, 2004, gardenerammy Arvada, CO wrote: The irises I ordered arrived at just the time I asked for them to be delivered and I also got a bonus of 6 extras! I was quite pleased. Unfortunately, three of the bonus irises are not listed on their website, so I have no idea what color they are, and have no other information about them. I emailed the company requesting this information, but never received a reply. All in all, this first time order was a positive experience, but I do wish they had responded to my email. |
| Positive | Berg_in_VA (3 reviews) | On Oct 6, 2004, Berg_in_VA Fredericksburg, VA wrote: I recently ordered daylilies, irises, a peony, and a hosta from Paradise Gardens. I was quite pleased with the experience. All of the plants were large and quite healthy. I was a little disappointed at a substitution made by Sutton's (the Iris supplier), but was ok with it when I saw how similar the sub was to the one I ordered. The bonus plants are a wonderful plus. Thank you Paradise, I look forward to doing business with you again. I do recommend that when Paradise or one of their suppliers makes a substitution, that they include some information on the plant and a picture. This makes it easier on the gardener. |

| Positive | jcaezza (1 review) | On Sep 30, 2004, jcaezza Penfield, NY wrote: I ordered herbaceous peonies from Paradise Garden with their online system. No problems or hassles! I placed the order in June, and as they stated, it arrived in late September. All plants were healthy, great looking specimens. Each plant was tagged with identification. I would recommend this internet gardening website to order plants from. RELIABLE. GREAT QUALITY. |
| Positive | hansberc (1 review) | On Sep 27, 2004, hansberc Lancaster, PA wrote: I was surprised to have ordered from Paradise Garden but received delivery from Oakes Daylilies - which I had also ordered from! Because I ordered daylilies for two separate beds, one primarily red and one primarily yellow, (one collection for Paradise, one collection from Oakes) , I was concerned about figuring out which plant went into which bed. The labels on the plants solved the problem because they gave not only the name, but the height and coloration of each. Problem solved! I received eight free daylilies, much to my delight. |

Some companies will send unrelated seeds or plants for their bonuses.I appreciated the common sense. |
| Neutral | sueallison (6 reviews) | On Sep 19, 2004, sueallison Rising Sun, MD (Zone 6b) wrote: I ordered irises and bulbs from Paradise Gardens, and was surprised to learn that they are just brokers - they did not grow anything that I ordered. I received the irises from Sutton's Irises. They sent me the eight rhizomes that I ordered, plus an additional six! (In excellent shape) However, I could have ordered all fourteen from Sutton's for less than I paid for the original eight I ordered from Paradise Gardens. Next, the bulbs I ordered have not arrived yet, but my invoice says I will be receiving them from VanBourgondien. The reviews for VanBourgondien are very poor, and I would never have ordered from them, so I am not at all happy that they will be sending me my order. I will just hope for the best! I have serious reservations about ordering from Paradise Gardens in the future, since I have no idea from whom I am truly buying. |

The daylilies arrived last month and there was a bonus plant much to my delight. A week ago I received an email telling me my irises had shipped but due to a quality problem they replaced 3 with "... substitutions based on like iris to what you had ordered". I looked the 3 up (on Dave's Garden of course) and they were nothing like what I ordered. I wrote an email back saying it was not acceptable. The reply I received said that the irises had already shipped but they would refund my money for the 3. I still had some irises in my wish list so asked if I could substitute 3 more instead of a refund. I was told yes and so I placed my order. With my order I thanked them for working with me but they *really* need to look at their substitution policy. I haven't received my replacements or the tree peony yet so I can't really say "yea" or "nay" just now but their willingness to make things right really impressed me. |

| Positive | dclomenzo (1 review) | On Aug 18, 2004, dclomenzo Pittsford, NY wrote: This was my first time ordering from Paradise Garden and so far so good! I received the first of my order today, a bearded iris rhizome, and it came to me healthy and packed nicely in straw. As a beginning gardener, this is the first time I've planted iris, so the planting instructions that came with the package were helpful. They instructed not to plant the iris deeply, so I left the rhizome a little exposed as said in the directions. It doesn't seem very stable in the ground, but I trust the experts know what they are doing! I have some peony plants coming in the future and I look forward to their arrival. |

The packaging was excellent, each iris rhizome was separated from the other with straw , like they were placed with care, not thrown in. The rhizomes were very large, the fans were at least 7 inches long and GREEN!! Plus they sent 2 extra iris, rebloomers!! This was my first experience with them and I will definitely buy from them again!!! Happy Gardening!!! |

They delivered everything that was promised. I ordered daylilies and received fans that were much larger than I have gotten from other companies. Even though I ordered during a hot time of year they arrived in excellent condition. I would order from them again. |
| Negative | blau534 (3 reviews) | On Aug 7, 2004, blau534 Kingston, NY wrote: i ordered from this company because so many people from dg were satisfied. I ordered 5 hostas and they were perfect, however i also ordered 3 other perennials and they were soooo small for the price. I emailed the company and they asked me so many questions and said that they will evaluate the situation. I thought that for the price they should have sent me additional plants and i stated that. I do not think that they are decent business people. |
| Positive | kittenbark (5 reviews) | On Aug 7, 2004, kittenbark Waukesha, WI wrote: I ordered Daylillies and Irises from Paradise Garden and this feedback is for the daylillies, I have not received the Irises yet.(I will leave feedback when I do.) From my understanding the Irises come from a different vendor/state so they ship separately from the daylillies. On September 8th, 2004, kittenbark added the following: This is an iris update - as others on the board have mentioned, Paradise notified me that the irises would be sent from the Suttons Iris garden, and visiting Suttons website did show the irises to be lower priced. The daylilies noted above came from Oakes daylilies (site same price as Paradise) so I was a little suprised the Irises were a higher price. I have mixed feelings about the iris part of my order, although I gave them an overall positive rating. On the negative side - 2 of the irises I ordered were out of stock and substitutions were made without my consent, even though I specifically noted this was not acceptable on the order form. Also the shipping took quite a while and the rhizomes were in OK shape but kind of dried up, especially compared to Leotas Iris garden (which I also ordered from - hedging my bets) and which were so spectacularly huge fans you wouldn't believe it. On the positive side the substitutions were for more expensive rhizomes (but hey - thats not what I ordered) and they did send 4 bonus plants which is very generous since I only ordered 5 rhizomes. But even with this, making substitutions without asking at this price is just not right, The other Iris vendors I ordered from also were out of stock on some things, but emailed me with suggested substitutions, which I think is a great policy. I would be hesitant to order Irises again, although their daylillies are truly phenomenal. In a nutshell Irises - Neutral, Daylillies - Positive |
| Negative | rumcow (1 review) | On Aug 5, 2004, rumcow wrote: I ordered from Paradise Garden and was outraged when they did not ship what I had ordered. They had substituted whatever they wanted for things they said they no longer had. They did not contact me to see if this was OK. They just decided to substitute other items and charge my credit card for the full amount. This is unacceptable and greedy business practice. It is almost a bait-and-switch tactic. |
| Negative | GSPointer (1 review) | On Aug 5, 2004, GSPointer wrote: I received my credit card bill for my purchases. Then I e-mailed Paradise Garden to find out when it would be shipped. No response! E-mailed again -- No response! Called phone number got a recorded messages saying it is their busy season and for a faster response it's better to use E-mail. So I did so again for the third time threatening to cancel order. Received E-mail today saying item shipped and I did receive order today. This is NO WAY to run a company, busy or not! Customers need to have their questions answered. I would NOT recommend this site to anyone. Very dissatisfied! |
