When the order finally came we immediately planted all the above. They were pretty sorry looking but we planted them anyway. Since then, all the dogwoods are dead (probably dead when we planted them, they looked it). All the blue spruce are dead if that's what you want to call them. And one of the maples is dead. So out of a $70 order we have one maple and one redbud that made it. I tried emailing the company, no response; I called and got no one. I called again May 30 and spoke to a female that informed me they do not give refunds but they will replace the trees. I told her we already replaced the trees from somewhere else and I no longer want replacements. She then said she could give me "in-store credit" like I want to order some more dead plants! So in other words, I got ripped off! These people do not belong in business, they are not customer friendly and from the looks of all the previous comments, all they do is rip everybody off. |
| Negative | TeacherinVA (3 reviews) | On May 29, 2008, TeacherinVA Hurt, VA wrote: Unfortunately, I found this site AFTER I had already placed orders with both Autumn Ridge and Gardener's Choice, so you can imagine my horror when I read all the comments for both places. I called yesterday to find out why 8 days after receiving my confirmation email, did I not have any plants, and the lady said that I shouldn't worry until 10 days had passed. Sure enough, I had plants when I got home from work. The azaleas, though much smaller than I expected, were quite healthy. The twig trees scared me, but there was some growth on the weeping willow and the white birch. I am hopeful that the althea, purple leaf plum, and crab apple will recover and do something. I was not at all pleased with the shasta daisies, red hot pokers, and after midnight echinacea that I received dry and brown in a plastic bag. The shasta daisies, which were only piles of brown root, had mold on them. My husband noticed some new growth in the root to red hot pokers, so I photographed everything and potted it just to see, but I don't look for any of the flowers to do anything On June 3rd, 2008, TeacherinVA changed the rating from neutral to negative and added the following: Only the azaleas and weeping willow are doing anything. Everything else is dead. I have tried to call and email, but I'm not hopeful that I will receive a response. |

These are the most sorriest looking plants I have ever received from anywhere. I wonder why they are still in business?? I'm going to put a complaint into my local newspaper to stop inserting their flyers. They do not need to keep ripping more people off. It took them over a month to ship my raspberry and blueberry bushes and I got one twig on dead and rotting roots. I half think they pulled these off the compost pile. They were in the mail 8 days. I emailed and told them they need to ship by 2-3 day Priority Mail. It only costs a $1 more over Parcel Post??!! What a mess. I advise NOT to order from these people. I just got a total mess and a headache. On May 28th, 2008, catmew added the following: Thanks for the info on this page. I did file a complaint with the Tennessee BBB. | Negative | franie5wv (1 review) | On May 27, 2008, franie5wv Parkersburg, WV wrote: I ordered May 1. I became concerned and tried to call them and could not reach them. Part of the problem seems to be that they are not printing the correct phone number. The correct number that I reached them at is: 931-815-9435. I received my order today and everything appears to be fine. A couple of the plants look a little "twiggy" but the roots look good and I expect them to grow. Shipment took a little longer than I expected, but as I said the plants appear to be fine. The azaleas were green and leafy and the bulbs look healthy. On June 9th, 2008, franie5wv changed the rating from neutral to negative and added the following: So far, four of the plants I ordered are living and two are not. I received my order yesterday and I was AWED!! The Begonia bulbs were the biggest I have ever seen in 30 years of gardening, a good 3" across, the 15 Ranunculus I ordered were in perfect condition and when I counted them, there was 25, the freebie, Pampas Grass, was better than any potted ones I had seen locally. It was well wrapped, roots still nice and damp and the plant itself was over 8" tall and in great condition. I was definitely satisfied and will be ordering from them again and recommending them to friends and family. |

I called on April 26 2008 to check on my order and was told it had not shipped but was in shipping and I should receive it sometime the following week. I received shipping confirmation May 1 2008 and on May 12 2008, when my order had yet to arrive, I called again. I asked about the 72 hour shipping and was told that they were so overwhelmed with orders that they could not fulfill the 72 hour shipping and that they were trying their best. On the April 26 call, I asked how long they had been in business and I was told 2-3 months. Apparently this is a lie as the copyright of their logo is dated 2003 and they did not state they were affiliated with another more established company. I proceeded to check with the BBB and found no complaints filed against Summerstone Nursery in McMinnville TN. I filed a complaint with the BBB for local business and the FTC for their false advertising on the internet. I then found your site and noticed that there were so many negative responses to this company. I urge those who have negative experiences to file complaints with the BBB so no one else need suffer this dishonest and incompetent company. Also, when filing complaints, please state with whom they are affiliated so that potential customers will not be misled by affilliate names. I will not order from these people or their affiliates again. |

Oh the book is beautiful showing all of the trees and shrubs that your going to someday have, knowing that the "trees" would be small to begin I had no idea how terrible they were going to be, I ordered close to 40 trees and when they arrived in a 5" tube-I knew they would be trouble. The "dwarf" fruit trees are not even grafted and that's the only way I know of to dwarf a named variety. I'll chaulk this up as an experience and trash their catalogs from now on, I won't tell them not to send them, let them waste the money on me like I did on them. Please, if you want a chance at success with a tree or shrub, order from a high-end company rather then a rat company like this. What I received was just sad, no other words for it. Hopefully if you read this you'll take my advise and get 1 or 2 nice trees (better from a local nursery if you can find the variety you want) then to order a bunch of twigs--that I know even if they did grow, will not be what I ordered--10 years from now (if they would even live) I would end up with wild pears and apples that aren't even what I wanted. Take care and beware! |
