I checked the order status 2 days later only to find out my order would not be shipped for 2 months. Everything I had ordered was in season. I promptly sent Michigan Bulb an email canceling my order. Now 2 months later I get a notice that they will be shipping my order. I sent them multiple emails reminding them I had canceled the order. Today I received my box of dead plants. JUST SAY NO! Their customer service is a joke and their plants are even worse. |

I also ordered a few hydrangea's and some toad lilies. Well, none of the lilies came up, and I thought that maybe they were just young bulbs, but I called them (because they have a guarantee) and asked. They gentleman told me that if they weren't up, they were probably dead and they are re-shipping them in the spring. They are also reshipping the toad lilies, as they didn't make it. I kind of thought that they might not live when I recieved them, they didn't look very well. I ordered 6 hydrangea's of a few varieties and only one did not make it. They were very small, so I wasn't really surprised to have one die. They are sending the toad lilies now, which has me a little puzzled because they just don't strike me as a plant that you would want to plant right before a northern Michigan winter, but I could be wrong...that's what the guarantee is for, I suppose. I guess you could say that I am not really ecstatic about the product that I have received to date, but they have been really nice about sending out replacements! Hopefully next year I will have a ton of lilies :) |

My gladiolus are outstanding but many of the other things didn't even come up. The prices are alright but once you add on the shipping your not getting that great of a deal. I wouldn't reccomend ordering from them. Blooming Bulb seems like a good replacement. I was verrrry happy about there Iris. |

Everyone had lived . I have ordered off and on from them , last spring for the first time I had 3 plants die so I called them . The young man was very nice and gave me credit right away on my account. I really do recommend this company and plan to order from them again. |

| Positive | ElSalvaterra (1 review) | On Jul 2, 2008, ElSalvaterra Beachwood, OH wrote: I placed an order with Michigan Bulb this spring for a four season hedge and a red perennial collection (two for the price of one). I received all the items in early May--all items were present, and they looked as advertised; dormant bareroot, bulbs, and some small plants. I was a little worried about the packing, since they all seem to have been just thrown in a box with some packing, and some of the plant material had spilled out of its packing. However, I planted all items, and other than sporadic watering, pretty much neglected them. 30 days after delivery, there was some activity in all my plants, with the exception of the Rose of Sharon, which still looked like a dead stick. I called Michigan Bulb and explained the situation, and they said that although they could not replace it this year (no longer the correct season for shipping/planting), they'd make a free replacement order to be delivered next Spring. I agreed, and went about my life, including some out-of-town travel. I returned last week from about 10 days away to discover...green leaves and growth on the Rose of Sharon! I have since called and cancelled the replacement order, and am very happy with my plants. |

Invoice date is September 28. Plants arrived end of September & set in prepared garden bed to overwinter. Only things that came up this Spring were dragonflower & veronica. No sign of caryopteris, liriope, hydrangea, or phlox. Prices aren't cheap when the plants die. The liriope & hydrangea were replacement plants for previous order that were DOA. Giving a neutral rating because MB appears to be responsive to customer concerns, stands behind guarantee & does replace the plants. However, it's aggravating to spend time & effort planting & expecting things to grow, then having to pull dead twigs from the ground six months later. Much better quality plants, outstanding customer service & faster shipping from Bluestone Perennials. Will not order from Michigan Bulb again. |

I placed an order to get a specific type of tree peony, and then ordered enough extra to qualify for the coupon. I also was certain to order things that I was pretty certain from years of experience mail ordering plants would survive the stress of shipping and handling and were fast growing (like hosta) because I figured the plants would be small. Everything has done very well except one (of three) tree peonies that was promptly replaced, and the new one has already leafed out nicely. So then I made a second order figuring I was pressing my luck, but recieved enormous roots of geranium and bleeding heart that are doing great. If you need alot of plants and can stand to wait (I have space enough for a nursery garden where I grow things out) consider giving them a try. |

I was anxious to get some significant growth going, but everything I recieved was either half dead or so minuscule I'll be nursing most of them all this winter in a green house before they can survive in a real planting. Got 2 of the "all season shrub collections", and some are doing okay while some show no hope. Ex: Two forsythia bushes arrived as bare 2 foot 'sticks'. One is leafing out just fine but the other shows no signs of life, although they are planted in the same soil mixture and cared for identically. That makes me believe it's not anything I'm doing wrong. Three poplars that are supposed to be fast growing are still the same sticks they sent 6 weeks ago; no sign of buds or life... |

The representative preceeded to tell me that they ship within 2 to 3 weeks of order ok so my order was placed 8 days ago, my question was why did the ship dates keep changing not why was my order not here. I was then inform we are within the planting season until the middle of June and despite the fact that my tomato plants were not scheduled to arrive til the end of June, along with half my flowers, there would still be plenty of time. After trying to get a straight answer and express my concern as to when or if my plants would arrive to enjoy I was not given a straight answer, finally I asked the order be cancelled and was hung up on. Yes I am one who calls right back and so I did only to be told the reason the dates have changed is because my items were on back order! How hard was it to answer the question "why does the date keep changng?", a simple answer would have been nice but instead I recieved a lecture about planting seasons and that they never give dates over the phone. After waiting on hold 10 mintues I was able to cancel my order, the first girl did not do it even though I asked, and was assured they were sorry about my experience. Well I will be searching for my flowers locally this weekend, guess I should have done this in the first place! |

I am needless to say, more than satisfied with their vigor. the root systems, the number of canes, amazed me. //img23.imageshack.us/my.php?image=grootreplacements33109.jpg I had made a separate order for common lilacs and double mockorange last year as well. they sent a refund check for the 1 lilac bush that failed, for the price I paid for three, as they didn't stock that plant this year. the replacement mockorange was much larger than the two I received last year, and leafed out within a day or two of my planting it. I would have no problem recommending Michigan Bulb to anyone, after my experiences. On June 21st, 2009, nobluefood added the following: I placed a few orders this season, and have been happy with, or happy with replacements! most of the packaging was excellent, though I complained (and received replacements) for a strange set of "bare root" perennials. they were actually seedlings or liners, in webbed starter pellets, which had been unceremoniously (and inexplicably!) dumped into bags of peat. then labeled the way actual bare root plants are stored and shipped. the replacements were shipped potted, but decent size for the money, and are doing fine. I started a perennial bed this year, and all the plants I ordered are really taking off! I have tried the box store potted (and far more expensive) perennials, and had more dieback than it's worth. I find that the smaller mail order plants adapt so much better to my garden conditions (clayish soil being the main negative). I also bought on VERY cheap clearance, a Flat Wonderful peach tree, which is adorable. red leaves, and branching out already. everyone asks where to get one. they have had to postpone shipping a couple items til fall, but this is not a problem for me and won't be for the plants. |

I agree completely w/ MEMEMI's positive feedback in that the bottom line is you get what you pay for. Their prices are cheap b/c the plants are very small. I ordered my first ever mail-ordered plants from MB (and Spring Hill) in Fall '06. I ordered a fern-leaf bleeding heart, climbing peace rose, toad lily mix, and Lamium Silver Beacon (<--although, that one may have been purchased from Spring Hill) The bleeding heart had one leaf top pop out in Spring of '07 but later died and the toad lilies didn't make it into '07. I never called to ask for replacements b/c I just figured it was my fault (which it could've been.) The lamium is doing well... still hasn't flowered or spread much... but it's there and alive. The climbing Peace rose was actually a nice surprise in that it grew vigorously in '07 and I'm hoping (and expecting) to see flowers this '08 season. I do wish however that I had done more homework b4 being won over by catalog pictures. Leaving Home Depot just yesterday I saw bare-root climbing Peace roses, most w/ huge long, thick, 4 green canes and for only $6.97! The MB bare root was considerably inferior in size but hey, it is growing so I'm happy about that. PLEASE though, do your homework and don't forget about local nurseries and even the "big box" type stores! Happy Gardening :) On May 26th, 2008, flowergirl78 changed the rating from neutral to positive and added the following: I'm changing my rating from Neutral to Positive. After posting the previous feedback, Debbie from MB contacted me via D-mail and offered to replace the ailing plants. In any case, I was VERY impressed at their level of Customer Service. Debbie was kind, thorough, and efficient. The care and attention she gave to the matter has really changed my attitude and made me a satisfied customer! Thanks again, Debbie! ps--after a light fertilizer given to the Lamium about a week ago, they've taken off like gang busters and I actually see buds forming on some of the plants!!! :D |

| Negative | amberandjoe (1 review) | On Apr 30, 2008, amberandjoe Canton, OK wrote: I have ordered from Michigan Bulb for years. I have always been satisfied enough to keep odering in the future. When I placed my order this spring I expected the same outcome as in the past. My order was split into three separate shipments. The first one arrived to my shipping address with no problems. I received notification that a second and then third shipment had been sent out. Nearly a month later the second shipment has never arrived. The third shipment finally did arrive with dried up little pots and a stem of dried up plant sticking out the top which was at one time a live plant. Still, I planted the lifeless stems. When the third shipment arrived I noted on the address that they had used part of my billing address and part of my shipping address and intermingled the two together which are in two different towns. The post office had scribbled through part of the address to get the third shipment to my shipping address. I made the mistake of calling the customer service number, expecting some resolution. After waiting the first time for five minutes or so and finally getting to a representative, about a minute later I was disconnected in mid-sentence. I called back later in the evening and talked to another representative. Lucky me. After explaining the situation once again, I was told that I had refused the second shipment. Funny how you can refuse something that never arrived. I'm assuming that the person at the wrong part of the address might have refused the order and it ended up back with Michigan Bulb. Although the representative seems to think that I am a liar and just refused the order so that I could have all this fun. After trying to make my point, to no avail, it seems to be my fault somehow that they combined my billing and shipping address together. Go figure. The representative told me that because the shipment was under 2 lbs. it would be stupid to mail the shipment by UPS. (Her words to me.) OK fine. But what does that have to do with shipping it to an incorrect address? Last time I checked the post office does deliver mail to my physical shipping address. When I mentioned the next issue and stated that the plants in the third shipment arrived late and were dead I was told that plants are shipped dormant. It seems as though I am also not smart enough to know the difference between live plants that come in soil in plastic containers that are supposed to have live plants in them and plants that are shipped dormant. After this continued I stated that I did not want the rest of the order and was told that I would have to hold. Great. When she came back she said that I would have to wait for some correspondence in the mail. I guess then I will get to see if I will have to pay for plants that never arrived and plants that arrived dead. I provide a service for a living. I would never treat my clients the way I have been treated today. This is the first negative review I have ever left for any company. But I don't know when, if ever, I have been so frustrated over an order. I was left feeling that there had been no attempt to provide a resolution. I hope if you deal with Michigan Bulb you can avoid needing to deal with their customer service. |

But they came in today 8 days after shipping...and I was actually pleasantly surprised. 3 of the 4 rhubarb are looking ready to start to grow, just showin a little shoot, other looks dead, but i planted, we will see. The roots were very large... VERY large. I dug up rhubarb at a friend's house last week, and it had been there for years, and those roots didn't come close to the ones I got from this company. The strawberries came in in similar condition, all just starting to come out of dormancy. The roots were 4-6 inches long. Once again, this weekend I dug up a lot of strawberries from our old house, and their roots, again, were nothing comparable to what I got in the mail today. I have high hopes, I have marked the plants that I got from this company with stakes, so I can tell how well they do compared to my others. I think they will do fine. There are 7 companies total. My experience so far is being positive with Spring Hill and Michigan Bulbs. I had a very few plants dying soon after arrival or a short time after but they had always replaced them. I will continue to buy from them despite a couple of bad experience with the customer service. Sometimes you just don't get the right person on the line, but it takes only a few more phone calls till you can work it out. For the money is worth the effort, anyway. I am now trying the Royal Dutch, we will see how they do. I am definitely happy with this Spring Hill and Michigan Bulb, plus if they ship the items in the fall, they do not charge your credit card until then. I bought a few bare root plants and they came in good shape and they always thrive. People do not understand the concept of "bare root". I usually open the box right there and soak the plant in water overnight and plant it the next day. It works very well. |
