To date, I have NOT rec'd a conf email as promised, nor have I ever rec'd a reply email to any of my 4 emails I sent them this past week...........so on that happy note, I called AX and placed a credit card dispute as I can't afford to wast $42 and stress myself out with all this craziness. I am driving to Walmart and will pay a little more, but I will get to choose personally what I buy and know that the plants will live. It will be "instant gratification" blooming, not an empty patch in my garden waiting to be planted at the whim of MB. They just lost a new customer with the potential for many purchases. I will provide them, however, I have to ask - Why did I need to post in Garden Watchdog to get a response? Why haven't my 2 emails directly to customer service been addressed? Lorraine On March 30th, 2012, Blueladyraine added the following: Siiiiiigggggh. I don't like giving negative reviews. But as you can see, another 2 days, and no response. 2 of my items have had their date moved UP to 4/5, which I suppose is progress. However, based on what I've been seeing here, they'll probably be lousy plants. I like to give the benefit of the doubt, however, comparatively speaking, I'm not impressed. On March 30th, 2012, Blueladyraine added the following: Ok. I did get this afterwards: CustomerCare Lawrenceburg, IN Fri, March 30, 2012 07:33 AM Dear Lorraine, I apologize for the delay in responding to your email. It is our busiest time of year and we do our best to answer our emails as quickly as we can. I have checked on your order for you and the Arkansas Blue Star and the Sweet Woodfuff are shipping today. The Chocolate Vine and the Pink Sundrops are on backorder and should ship in the next week or so. I will keep and eye on the rest of your order for you to make sure it ships as soon as it can. Sincerely, Donna Customer Service There are so many things that the company could do to mitigate the things I see both with my own order and with what others are experiencing. I charge for that advice, though. I'll continue to wait and see what emerges. On April 5th, 2012, Blueladyraine added the following: The incompetence continues. While I received the two roots for my Arkansas Bluestars, the Sweet Woodruff was missing. In it's place, I have a hibiscus, which I have absolutely no use for. I've written back regarding the mistake, and will probably call, too, given the response record to date. I'm always willing to give company's I haven't done business with before a shot, but this is one of the ones that's blown it. It's worth the money to call Forestfarm, have a knowledgeable person speak with me, and receive everything in a beautiful, hassle-free manner. Even Burpees and Burgess have done better. On to round what? Five? On Apr 5, 2012, Michigan Bulb responded with: "On Mar 27, 2012 4:24 PM, Michigan Bulb responded with: Thank you for your feedback. I'm patient, and I understand that the plants have to be ready to ship before they can send them to me. I also understand that it's first come first serve and if the harvest isn't what it should be, I might not get my plants. I'm not worried that the plants are bare root. I consider it a challange to get these babies to grow. And when they do...Wow! And when they don't, I contact Michigan Bulb and they send me new ones. I think people who want instant gratification from online nurseries need to just buy their plants at big box stores. Bareroot plants usually need a little babying. You can't just plant them and forget them (though I've done that with success before...). I received their magazine in the mail with a coupon for 50% off my entire order and $8.75 shipping. So I ordered almost $200 worth of plants. All of the plants are twigs but I expected that. But they were healthy and had great roots! Out of everything I ordered I only had to have the trumpet vine and strawberries replaced. Which isn't bad for how much I bought. The trees are already blooming! They have the best customer service I have ever dealt with. Very friendly and completely hassle free! I Already started recommending them to everyone else. I would defiantly buy from them again in the future. | Negative | jthuck (2 reviews) | On Mar 27, 2012, jthuck Bremerton, WA wrote: Posted on March 24, 2012, updated March 27, 2012 On March 14th, 2012, jthuck changed the rating from neutral to negative and added the following: Yet another delay, today the shipping date was changed TWICE! And no response from customer service. Order# 20730023700 and #20681935200 both were originally showing 3/21 as the estimated delivery date. Now they both say 3/28. EVERY day, since ordering (3/08 date of first order, 3/13 date of second order) I have checked the estimated delivery date online. It has changed almost DAILY. I don't think this company understands that some of us who buy from them CANNOT sit around and WAIT for them to finally get around to shipping the plants we PAID for. Especially members of the Military. My leave ends soon and I will be deploying. I have no schedule, therefore there is no way to "work around" re-delivering plants to me in the fall or next spring or whenever. Why would you offer plants that are not ready to be shipped? Yeah, the weather may not be predictable, but from what I gather from the rest of the negative feedback is that order dates are constantly changed (weather-related or not) and by the time the order is REALLY ready, the plants are out of stock (odd, so first come, first serve?...even though you already PAID for THAT plant THIS year?) or they arrive unhealthy or dead. Like I said, I have a LIMITED window of time as to when I can get my plants in the ground...I just hope Michigan Bulb will actually SEND them (and for the life of me, quit pushing the dates back...) On March 14th, 2012, jthuck changed the rating from negative to neutral and added the following: Changed back again to neutral; we will see if my plants arrive soon. Wondering why, if they were shipped today, the shipping date when I log in still says 3/28. Hopefully by tomorrow, the status will change to "shipped". On March 15th, 2012, jthuck added the following: So, according to my order status, 20681935200 has still not shipped, even though the rep replying to this board said it was shipping yesterday. Either they need to sync their records with the order information we get via order status, or I was duped. Before I change my rating back to negative, I will give it another 24 hours to say "shipped". If it actually arrives here within the next week, I will change to positive or keep it neutral, depending on the quality of the plants. On March 15th, 2012, jthuck changed the rating from neutral to negative and added the following: Order 20681935200, the one that was supposedly shipped yesterday, now has an estimated shipping date of 3/29, so it was pushed back ANOTHER day, items "Still not Shipped", according to the order status on the website. On March 15th, 2012, jthuck added the following: Okay, so Order # 20730023700 has a shipping date of 3/18, so that is an improvement, but order #20681935200 is still at 3/29, even though according to the rep who posted on here, it should have been shipped yesterday. On March 15th, 2012, jthuck added the following: Okay, so Order #20730023700 has had its shipping sticker PRINTED. Still not shipped according to UPS. But the order that was supposed to be SHIPPED on the 14th of March, according to the rep who posted here, is still an OPEN order and has not even had its sticker printed, let alone be shipped. Again, I sent an email to the company and they have yet to reply. I am afraid, even if the plants arrive in good condition, that I will be doing business elsewhere. Over $100 spent on plants, crappy handling of orders, unreliable updates on shipping, and sub par customer service. In fact, the only correspondence I received at all from this company was the one-liner on this forum. On March 16th, 2012, jthuck added the following: Order #20730023700 still only has its shipping sticker printed and has NOT been shipped according to UPS. Order #20681935200 (the one that was SUPPOSED to have shipped already) has once again had the estimated delivery date pushed back a day, and is now due to either ship or be delivered by 3/30. And STILL NO REPLY from Customer Service. This is ridiculous. On March 16th, 2012, jthuck added the following: I checked the Tracking Number associated with order #20681935200 via the UPS tracking site...the tracking #1Z5FY646PT46177028 does NOT exist! Big surprise there. And yes, I made sure to type it in right and did not include the # sign. Also, if my order WAS shipped, why doesn't it reflect on your website? On March 16th, 2012, jthuck added the following: And according to UPS Tracking Information, only the STICKER for Order #20730023700 was PRINTED. There is no TRACKING information because the package has not even been sent to UPS yet, so effectively, it HASN'T been shipped...yet. I want so bad to believe that this company is good, but a false tracking number for one order (please tell me it was just an unintentional mis-typing of letters/numbers), just a printed sticker for the other order, and Order Status on your website does not match with order status with actual customer service...and then again, the only way I can seem to reach customer service is via Garden Watchdog...ugh! Once the shipment arrives at our facility, the tracking status--including the scheduled delivery date--will be updated. On March 16th, 2012, jthuck added the following: Okay so order #20730023700 has FINALLY been SENT to UPS and I can track it. HOWEVER, order #20681935200 is still NOT SHIPPED, according to the website. On top of that, still no response as to why I got a false/mis-typed UPS tracking number for order #20681935200. How the heck can an order appear to the customer as "Items not yet shipped" but to the company "shipped with whatever tracking number"? Don't you know how to update order statuses? And forget about trying to contact Michigan Bulb through their website. I will say it again: THE ONLY WAY I WAS ABLE TO GET ANY RESPONSE WAS THROUGH THIS WEBSITE! On March 16th, 2012, jthuck added the following: So, I sent another email to the company through their website. We will see if they respond (I mentioned the BBB as well as possibly submitting a complaint with the Postal Service for possible mail order fraud) in a timely fashion. I fail to understand how a representative for Michigan Bulb can quickly respond on this site but not on their actual website. Nor do I understand how a company can TAKE your money BEFORE sending you the goods, especially when they fail to send you the goods in a TIMELY fashion. I also fail to comprehend how a representative can give me a wrong (or possibly made-up) tracking number to my order and FAIL to either correct the tracking number, assuming it WAS typed wrong. I used ctr+c and ctr+v on that order number, so I know I typed it the exact way it was on here. I will never again go through Michigan Bulb. On March 18th, 2012, jthuck changed the rating from negative to neutral and added the following: Okay so apparently, the tracking number was not printed or something because NOW UPS recognizes it. It still has not been shipped (it was just printed and UPS has not picked it up to ship it yet) but I am going to change my rating...for now. We will see how the plants look when they get here. I checked the delivery date for 20730023700 and it is due to arrive here on 3/23, which concerns me. That is a LONG time for live plants, dormant or not, to be in a box! We will see...I would still not recommend this company to anyone. On March 24th, 2012, jthuck changed the rating from neutral to negative and added the following: My orders FINALLY arrived. I changed my rating to negative due to the condition of some of the plants. Because they were in a box for a WEEK, a few of them are quite pathetic in appearance and it will be a miracle if they survive. Out of order #320730023700, one of the Lenten Roses (hellborous) was actually OUT of its planting plug, the contents scattered throughout the box. It is quite weak, but I *think* it will recover. The Magnolia Tree is a very decent size (about a foot and a half tall) BUT it was shipped bare-root with NOTHING covering its root ball (which was only about 2 inches...very concerning for a sapling that size) except for dry straw. Now, I don't know if magnolia trees are shipped differently or not, but EVERY bush and tree I have ever ordered online (quite a few of them) has always had a nice, large root ball, covered in damp newspaper. I hope the tree makes it. The Lily tree (or tree lily) bulbs looked okay, but were tiny. Out of order #20681935200, the toad lily tubers were tiny, but looked healthy. The blue passion flower vine is dying (the top part of the vine was crushed, the vine itself was wilting due to lack of water, and the poor thing is only about 2 inches long and its trailers had nothing to wrap around, so it wrapped around itself). I have coaxed one of the trailers around a thin bamboo stake...I'm just hoping it pulls through. Out of the three rainbow lewisia I ordered, only ONE is decent looking. Two of the plants are yellowing and going brown(and these are SUCCULENTS) and are also missing the top growth, thus they probably won't grow further this season. And lastly, the rainbow butterfly bush (or should I say twig?). It is decent enough, but it's pathetic that I spent $8.00 on a two-inch plant. Mind you, I could have bought that same bush in a TWO gallon pot (meaning it would have actually BEEN a BUSH) for only $2.00 more. All in all, customer service for this company BITES (I only had communication with a rep through this website...what a shame). The plant quality is iffy. The shipping time is RIDICULOUS (there isn't even an option for upgraded shipping on the website), causing plants further shock (and possible death)...I often ship plants to family in IL (same state that your company is in) from here and ALWAYS send it priority mail or overnight...they have NEVER had issues with dead plants from me. Flat rate boxes are AWESOME...heard of them? Sure, you can't ship trees that way, but for everything else you shipped to me? It would fit! In ONE medium box. And I would not have minded paying a bit extra for priority, had I the option. I have decided, despite a few of my plants looking decent, that I won't further shop from Michigan Bulb, for reasons outlined above. (Don't even get me started on the junk mail that comes in the box with the plants...ugh, had to dig through IT just to find the darn plants). I can shop my local nursery and spend a tad bit more for quadruple (or more) the size plants MB ships. Or I can just do business with Bulbs Direct (great company, shipping takes awhile, but it's overseas and well, US Customs and all that) or any other top 30 Garden Watchdog. On March 27th, 2012, jthuck added the following: As I suspected, the Blue Passion Flower vine perished, despite valiant efforts to nurse it. All three of the Rainbow Lewisia also perished, even the healthiest looking one. I highly doubt any customer rep will contact me, as I have only gotten any response from the company through this website. Nor do I expect a PROMPT re-delivery of HEALTHY replacement plants. Strange, you give your email and phone number to the company and you still can only get contact by INITIATING it yourself or by waiting for someone to EVENTUALLY post on this website, a website that is not even theirs. On Mar 27, 2012, Michigan Bulb responded with: "On Mar 14, 2012 4:30 PM, Michigan Bulb responded with: I checked on your orders for you and order 20681935200 is shipping today and your other order I put on a rush to have it shipped right away. After further probing around on the website, I find it hard to believe that a company that is so well known does not have a phone number listed for customer service. Also, I placed my order and the ship date has already been move back a few days, but yet my payment has been taken from my credit card already! What kind of company takes payment before shipping? There is a full 3-4 week lapse between payment taken/shipping date. That is scary. I am very concerned about the plants I will receive and the time frame in which I will receive them. My zone falls within current shipping dates, so why has my order been pushed back again? We are having unseasonably warm temperatures, and planting outside at this time should not be of any concern. I requested a quick ship date when I placed my order, but from the sound of it, Michigan Bulb does not aim to please customers. Also, I wish I would have checked their guarantee better. Thirty days is not long enough to know if plants are going to survive. I will take this as an unfortunate and expensive learning lesson and at this point I'm thinking I will not be ordering from Michigan Bulb again. I guess we'll see if and when my order arrives, I change my mind. Will try to keep updating. Also, very confused as to why Michigan Bulb representatives are posting on this website??? What is that all about??? Maybe that time could be better utilized if they focused on their customer service. After the Grape give some leaves or with next 4-6 weeks I will come back for telling how the plants look. This is not a week yet after I planted them. :) so far, the plants those came, are good size. The plants both are about 6" from the soil. :D Pros: I really reccomend Grape seedless concord, it grow fast and keep growing, I got a tiny flowers but they did not turn to be fruits and fall out. :) I don't expect fruit or grape after plant first season. So it is a bonus for me to see tiny flowers within a month. This is so amazing. For Nanking Cherry, The wood stem that has yellow leaves. The leaves all dried and fall off, scared me at first :)) but it did grow right back from root made a new tender green stem with 10s leaves about 5-6" tall already, but will have to wait to become a bush, it grow slower than grape. :) Never mind. :D because it look like it has very strong root systems. :(( Cons: My dwarf orange tree and lime leaves turn a bit yellow. I am afraid to kill them. Customer service is available even after 5 pm, and I have not to wait to get a representative on phone, this is very great! But I Called customer service asking the planter size for dwarf lime and orange, He told me that the full size of Orage and lime tree need 4' at least diameter and 6-9" height. I said Thak you and hung up politely BUT that sounds like a pound for a fish. I was satisfied up unitl the products started becoming less and less healthy. I ordered lupines from them 36 plants for $38. Not a bad deal except they were all out of the special sale priced lupines and returned my money. I suspect this was a glitch on their web site, but to lie and say they ran out...... I don't buy that. So I ordered the more expensive lupines and for three years running they have not come up and needed to be replaced. Each year I contact them and each year they apologize and send new plants that fail to come up the next year. Last year they send me a refund check. I contacted them and told them I prefer plant replacement as the warranty says I have the chioce. So they send me a bill for shipping? I again contact them and decide ok if I have to repay the shipping I'll take the refund and go to Wal*Mart with my money and buy plants. Low and behold they agree to send me new plants with no shipping cost. I am happy thinking it was all a misunderstanding until the replacement plants arrive. There are no distinguishable bare roots to be found. I have planted the bags of dirt they sent, but am pretty sure when you plant dirt you grow dirt. I took photos of the bags before opening and after opening just in case, but I'm thinking at this point I am better off with the lesson of buying plants from large mail order companies who obviously employ packers that do not know the difference between dirt and plants. Oh and my bittersweet vine is a lovely vine with no blooms. It's been three years and still no blooms... now thats what I call bittersweet. The snow in summer-which were "in plantable pots" ie-like those jiffy pods that you add water to sent in a paper bag. At least they were moist.
