Help with tomatoes

Victoria, Canada

I planted an excess of tomatoes and ended up giving about 3 dozen plants away. Some have survived, others have been murdered by their adoptive parents thinking they would love to spend an entire day in the sun before being hardened off.

These particular plants are "wilting with some brown leaves". I'm hoping someone could help me save them. Can anyone shed any light on why these plants are so unhappy? There is a possibility they have been over Miracle Gro-ed, but no one's admitting to that one!

Thanks!

Looking at the photo you sent the upper portion of the plant, the new growth , looks good. What you could do is dig a larger, deeper planting hole next to each plant and remove the lower leaves and replant deeper. They will root all along the stem and you will have a much healthier and more productive plant in the long run. The lower leaves look as though they may have been exposed to adverse weather conditions.

Your picture looks like it's in full shade--do the tomato plants get any direct sunlight? Too much shade will cause tomatoes to grow long and lanky like the one shown in your picture.
