I think they are most easily started from seeds.
Tropical plants # 42
Yes, and the seeds aren't as plentious as some vines, and then it's one seed at a time, no pods.
Hmmm seeds? that could take a long time for flowers.
RJ, what is that white flowers above?
My pink favorite brug is blooming but can't post picture because I lost my 2nd hard drive. Trying to see if I can recover the data.
The white flower (cream like) is Brunsfelsia Americana
It sure is...I love those
Where is Placenciarita? haven't seen her in a few days.
Hi Candela, great ! what can I send you?
Jan
Well, I am a first time trumpet grower and someone gave me a cutting called Pink Favorite. So when the bud started opening, it was white, and I thought to myself, oh well, she must have labeled it wrong. I wondered what she gave me.... came out the next morning and the flower was PINK! May be yours is one of those that change color, just like mine. I've only had one bloom, so I'll have to wait and see what the next bud will do....
LOL! Glad to hear that, Candela. :)
Randy, I can sure relate to the 50's blog. Although I am chronologically further down the road, my mind is still "young". Being married 48 years just yesterday seems impossible.
We are still only in our 20's or our 40"s. But what does it matter. The many trials and celebrations add up and I am glad I was there. You have much ahead of you and we all hope to be along for the ride.
Christi aka PK
You are on the ride, and that's why I'm saying thankyou !
I wanted to ask, if everyone feels that same way ..not old...that was some good insight!
Perhaps someone can define "old".
oooooops. OT
Hmmm well lets see, I'm 53 in August and still don't feel like it. So I can't tell ya either :) But very Happy Birthday !
I think it must be soo! Thankyou
Wow... great pictures... those Brug pictures are gorgeous...

Wonderful, Randy. I learned that the way to a green thumb is to use lots of elbow grease.
As to all the various responsibilities my ironing has grown quite large because I would rather be in the garden. Everything worth having is "high maintenance".

I have been having computer problems, and had to buy a new one. I am still trying to figure out how to post new pictures on this system--- I am a slow learner
Sunshinesw, I would like to thank you for starting the new thread and for posting all those fantastic pictures of your plants. The first picture is very interesting with the Brug and Croton. I counted 11 plants in that one shot
I have enjoyed everyone's pictures and comments, but will have to catch up on rj blog's. I usually save those for my quiet time. I am looking forward to update pictures on Kinarj and vossner's new tropical pots
Rj , happy belated birthday, you are a handsome devil. Instead of one day, we should have a month to celeberate our birthdays.
Placenciarita, good to see you back on line. I am glad you got a new computer, cant' live with or without a computer. LOL
Mine crashed some time back & my DH had to reformat the whole thing but it acts up again now & then.
That bed in first photo, I've been layering lots of different plants and it looks pretty full now. I just got to change few plants and I think that bed is done.
I lost all my photos recently when my hard drive died. My brother is trying to see if he can recover any of it. So I feel your pain. Welcome back!
I haven't posted any picture recently because I am running my computer on a smaller drive and I only have 1/4 disk space left. I don't have any room on my current drive to unload data.
You guys should check out picassa.com, all your pics will be backed up on there
Plus there are great editing capabilities
Picassa messes up everything else on my computer. My son is an IT director for his company and even he can't figure out why everything slows down if Picassa is installed on mine. Usually I install it, do photo editing or whatever what I need to do with it and then uninstall it. These machines are too darn picky.
the problem with some of these website that you upload your photo to is that it reduces the size of your picture resolution and you have to use their print service to order your picture if you want the higher resolution photos.
anyway, i went out and bought an external drive for back up purposes. Once I get my other hard drive installed, I'm going to set it up to automatically back up every week or every 2 weeks.
There are things you can do to get better performance from your computer.
The first one is simple - reboot. Some people go weeks without restarting their computers, and it will bog the computer down. You'd be surprised at the difference.
The problems here sound like they might be related to either the available space on the disk drive, or the amount of free memory available. If either one of those is low, the computer's performance will suffer.
You can see how much available space there is on your hard drive by right clicking on the 'C' icon, and selecting Properties.
You can see how much free memory you have available by pressing , run the Task Manager, and select Performance.
If the amount of available disk space is low, un-install programs you don't use.
If the amount of available memory is low, there are ways to determine what programs are loading at start-up, and prevent them from loading. You don't need most of them, and it will make more memory available.
I use a utility called CCleaner - it's free, and you can find it with Google. It cleans up unneeded, temporary files from your hard drive, and it lets you see what programs are loading at start-up, and disable the ones you don't need.
As I mentioned, my son is a specialist in this field and he keeps computers going all over the world so I have the best resources to check with and I regularly clean up unused programs, etc. The only time I have the problem is when Picassa is installed. Everything is fine again as soon as I uninstall it.
hmmm...that is interesting information..I may uninstall it and try that out. Mabe because the photo's are double stored on the hard drive when they're not suppose to?
That is the only thing that has occurred to me. I have thousands of photos (all backed up elsewhere of course) on the drive. I can't remember how large my drive is but it is huge, my son sees that I always have far more memory than I really need - but photos stored twice, well maybe?????
I have Picassa, and it doesn't slow my computer down at all. It's a great program.
If you go into pICASSA AND click on the 'Help' menu, there's a Picassa forum, where you can post questions. Probably, somebody else has had similar problems, and knows what the solution is.
