June Flowers

I am thrilled to hear that y'all like David's plants so well! Gail, I took your advice and bought several from him on eBay tonight. I really can't wait til they get here! I'm super excited! I got some new ones that I had wanted, and replaced some that I lost. Can't wait to see that potting mix he uses, too. Sounds interesting...

(Lynn) Omaha, NE(Zone 5a)

My plants are still in David's mix,but I have to be very, very careful about watering. The mix goes from wet to shrinking away from the sides of the pot very quickly, much like peat. That said,he sends beautiful healthy plants.

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Well I am not thrilled with his plants so far... They are not bigger then exotic lady and hers comes in better soil... But then again what do I know... I have gotten much bigger plants off others one ebay...
Ok going to breakfest.. yummmmmm
Hugs,
Sue

If you think he sends nice plants, have a look at these ;( I joked with Gail saying he must have sent me all his rejects. And, on top of it all, a couple of them that are blooming, aren't blooming true to variety. Persian Carpet is blooming solid blackish purple with a white edge.

I too don't like the potting mix and will have to repot them which is no big thing as I always do that anyway. I used to have a rule for myself and that was to grow from leaves or cuttings only and may go back to that.

GL, you did get rejects for some reason..........Mine are all at least 8" tall and covered with blooms.........I just change the soil on anything I order from anyone .........works better for me when I use my own soil............

Number 6 has to be either Moonlit Velvet or Frosty Twilight...........will have to check......

Williston, ND

how sad,i know the ones ive gotten in the past are huge, course they were bought at convention,i just assumed he would send out the same kind, guess not, just ive heard nothing but good things

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Here is an example of the size of plants he sends...........I have only had these less than two weeks........the others I have already disbudded and cut the flowers off .......will do these this afternoon.............so they will put on new foliage.

'The King' was the first plant he started with.........found it in seeds from Park Seed..........and that was the beginning of his hybridizing. I think it is a fascinating story.

Well here is also a picture of two he sent to my friend and this is not her fault as she had nursed them to get this big...LOL Not a good picture to me that I would go buy from him now... It seems some get really great ones and others get the tail end...LOL
Hugs,
Sue
PS... I love that strep Lynn ^_^

I wonder if it is a sign of the times...business wise. There are several reputable vendors I frequent on ebay who usually send quality plants---often in bloom. But every once in awhile, a couple that need my nursing skills squeak through. As long as this is an infrequent occurrence, I overlook it. If I receive questionable plants the first time I use a vendor(especially one I am not familiar with) I will email them. That happened to me once, and it worked out very well, and I still order from that vendor.

Oh my goodness Susan!! What a beautiful child I produced from seed and you bloomed,tee,hee.^_^ That sinn is loving the 4 lights on your plant stands.Great growing girl.Purple Peppered is pretty!

Bonnie,Your strep is a beauty, hope you find out the name

Andalusia, AL(Zone 8b)

Ohhh very pretty Jan!

It seems so hit and miss. Gail's karma was for hits and mine was for miss big time. The good thing is with some repotting and a little time spent, they will grow out. In a few months, they'll look just fine. Anything purchased sight unseen is a gamble.

What bugs me more than the plants received is the fact that a couple of the blooms I have seen aren't blooming true to variety. Is it possible they could revert back to normal? Here is a my old Remembering John I gave away and bought a new one and it's not blooming true. So disappointed. I will contact him and hopefully he'll make it good.

I will say that Roulette Cherry bloomed solid red and then the next blooming cycle, they bloomed correctly red and white.

As long as they aren't two leafed babies, I am happy with what I order..........but I know exactly who I will and won't order from.

Bonnie, I can't tell because that color is hard to catch on a camera............

cute micro mini av!!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Goldleaf, that is definitely Remembering John...........

****edited to ask if you could post a picture of your new Remembering John bloom?

Hi,
I have to get back in the yard .... Jan, I only have them under one set of light... two bulbs... They are the only ones in the living room... The other one is getting ready to bloom soon also... can't wait...
Hugs,
Susan

Frederick, MD(Zone 7a)

Okay, I will when I get some time later. I'll also take a picture of Persian Carpet that isn't right at all.

That photo I posted is my old Remembering John that I gave away and wanted to replace it. So I bought a plant to replace it on ebay from him and got the dud. I'll take a pic of what he sent as Remembering John.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I am sure he will make good as he seems to be extremely nice and he isn't trying to grow by taking the mid vein out which 99% of the ebay vendors do..........those plants grown by taking out the mid vein are always weak plants and never as strong (or at least it takes a long time to get strong ones I have found).

The only way I can make good healthy plants out of mid vein removed is to let them grow very large attached to the half leaf planted..................the sellers on ebay send them out waaaaay too soon to buyers which I think is horrible. I don't even want to pay 6 or 7 dollars for something I have to dome and babysit for 2 months.

All I can say in defense of David is he doesn't send puny lightweight plants even when he sends small ones........they are healthy and ready to go as opposed to 99% of the other vendors on ebay.

Williston, ND

sorry bonnie, could be phobe,or karens candy apple, take a few more pics and send them to me,its close ill bet i can find it

GL--Here's a little one I got off ebay a few weeks ago....the leaves were not pink when I received it--it is coming along nicely---Rob's Suicidal Squirrel. As long as the root system is good--I can wait for the rest.

Just looked--My Remembering John leaf finally sprouted--I will save one for you if you want...

Bonnie,Jim didn't ask you to send him the plant.Maybe it's a new kind of reverse phychology ^_^

shhhhh

Frederick, MD(Zone 7a)

Phoebesviolets, that is a beautiful violet! Wish it had a better name. I am crazy for variegated leaves like that. When they are that pretty, the flowers are some icing on the cake. Thanks for your offer. So sweet of you. I'm sure I'll get a replacement plant.

Oh my goodness, GL! Fantasia is the most vibrant color I have seen lately. The netting is fabulous. Do you know who the hybridizer is?

Phoebe, Rob's Suicidal Squirrel is as pretty as Champagne Pink foliage...........thanks for sharing.

Bonnie ,

Your plant looks like my Sultan's Ruby , did you get it from David on ebay ? got mine from him , bought a bunch from him and maybe three were on the small side and kind of floppy in the pot but am going to repot them , I like to wait a couple of weeks to repot , worry about too much going on for them in such a short time and I haven't had streps too long and don't want to lose the ones I have by doing too much too soon , mine have all bloomed true so far , hahaha but then if they didn't would I know ? :) only know from pics but they all seem to be true , so I should take off all the blooms ? didn't know that , thank you all for telling me :) Hope you are all having a wonderful Sunday , it seems that we are finally getting into a rain pattern , I hope , my fingers are crossed , hope you get rain too ,Gail .glad you had a wonderful visit with your kids and their kids :)
