June 2009 - In the Garden

Sacramento, CA(Zone 9a)

Yardqueen - you are way ahead of me here too, though I am in 9a zone. I finally got around to planting a few zinnia seedling, but the snails got to the base stalks, so I think they are goners.

Blossom - that color on your pink spirea is gorgeous!

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

Soils, beleive it or not that pissy little camera actually got the color exact on that spirea! I am still frustrated with that peice of junk. Yesterday the thing got hot in my hand while talking on the phone option....grrrrr.... The reception is terrible and note to self: this is the 4th one I will be having to replace due to overheating and burning up.

Yardqueen, I am in awe!

No pics today.. I got too much other things to do, so catch yall later!

Must hunt down zinnias before snow flies! LOL!

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

Well, did not find my zinnias but got some pics now. Had to borrow the hubs cam.

Kong bloomed today! Its blue!

Love that Kong, the leaves are gorgeous!

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

Kong is huge, the pot it is in is 12 inches. If I could have gotten a pot bigger, I am sure KONG would go with it too. I am betting mine is stunted as I am not fertilizing. I got baby KONGS! Started a few cuttings and they took.

Here is Prairie Blue Eyes.. My days are starting. Stella has gone to full blown bloom.

they are all so pretty & not something I see much of, we have assorted lilies available but I don't have any.
I did splash out & bought myself 3 hellebores today.
I went to look for orphans & noticed the hellebores were selling quickly again - I missed out last year because I was to cheap to pay $5.00 per plant.
So this time I went for it.
I had 3 given to me by my boss form her garden, no idea what kind they are but they look to be doing well so I put the others in the same area.
I should have taken a photos but it was getting late - my task for the morning.
It is meant to be a toasty warm 1C ...

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

Well, dalfyre, if you stick with me you wioll be seeig alot of daylilies.. I am a collector gone daft!

The heat indexes here have been to a killing degree. We had rain. The rain is great on the daylilies, but the humidity I can do without. I think the humidity and teh moisture is what makes some of them get more petals than normal too.Everything is growing faster than it can be cared for. Today its sunny, bonna get hot and its the kinda day you will sweat while just sitting. No releife. Its gonna be a baaaad summer.

Yesterday I ambled out through our pasture and took a walk through some standing water and it was almost hotter than bath water....Steam city. Derned near boiled my feet. Tending animals has been a bear. I have to get out to check on the stock every few hours make sure everyone is getting water. Got an old mare who needs more attention and a obese mare that is real pain in the but with her overeating.

Welp, drink lotso water! Cheers mate! Catch ya at the cafe. My picture taker is being a slug again... ugh.

BB you be extremely careful in that heat and make sure you are well hydrated as well, perhaps stop in the cafe before and after every trip.
Your daylilies are giving a splendid showing. I mostly just have yellow and don't know why I don't have other colors???
dalfyre, I have helleborus they are quite pretty and bloom for a long time here from March through June.

Thanks Haighr, sorry to say its probably coming your way.

Well, I did check the critters and they were fine Im ok too. I can take the heat. But try to do things systematically so not to over do.

I am soooo peeved at that person who left a poor little dog in a vehicle on the weekend. Makes ya wanna scream bullets. Some people are so undeserving. We have seen parents do this to kids too and oh man... makes the blood boil.
