some leaves of redbud forest pansy
Garden Pics: 'Postcards from the Garden.'...#7
Thanks for the tips, Linda! I think I do want to keep them in pots so I can move them around if needed- he needs the pots they're in now back, so I'll be sure we get nice roomy ones for them so they can wiggle their toes. I have lovely TAGRO potting soil to plant them in, I'm sure they'll like that, and I have Epsom salts, so I'll give that a try too. :)
Red I like your weed! What is it? I would have a hard time pulling that out.
Great bee pics. Those huge bumble bees are so industrious.
Orwells, great punk frog!
Bea, I have not seen cutter bees in my area...and I am really glad looking at your pic! I absolutely love the goldfinch...what a wonderful surprise for the morning!
Lynn, We were busy, but looking at what you still have to deal with on Friday night made me feel better about what I still have to get in the ground! I know you were a VERY busy girl yourself! Hopefully DH was happy with your Friday project!
Pony, Free plants is way cool...even if they need TLC! It wouldn't hurt to post a pic of your new babies and you might get some good advice on rejuvinating them. We would love to see you at roundup! Our first stops on Saturday are in the Lakewood area, so hopefully you will be able to join us!
RC, Great pics! I really love the forest pansy one. The color and the lighting are wonderful! And isn't it funny how weeds are beautiful in the right context?
Irwells, Love the callas, and REALLY like that frog! What a cheerful patio friend!
This is my favorite climbing rose High Society.
Oh my... "Carry Me Away" indeed... that's swoonworthy!
I'll take a photo of my new babies today- looking at them again, I don't think they're actually palms- they look more like some kind of yucca, maybe? But I'll post them and see what folks have to say.
I need to look at the roundup info again, I didn't even see the part about Lakewood! I am totally there! Lakewold Gardens, I presume?
Dracenia I think.
Dracenia would be my guess, too.
Glad you are going to try to make some of the Roundup stuff, pony.
Do you guys mean Dracaena AKA Dragon tree? I guess that's entirely possible... my only experience with them is the little tri-colored houseplant ones.
Whatever they are, I like them. I hope I can get them nice and healthy again. And find a place to put them... yikes.
rj..the cutter bees have made there presence know since I have lived here. They do not stay long. They take enough to make their nest..and move on.
That finch this morning was so darling. Here is his picture on what he was perching on under the wisteria
on my gazebo.
Of course a frog whirly-gig!
Judi, Your garden looks lovely. Love the slate patio & steppables. Very nice.
I did not spend much time outdoors today. Somthing in the air kept making me sneeze. I think it was those darn cottonwood trees. Saw a lot of flying fluff and think I inhaled some too! Hopefully it float on by and be gone by morning!!
This was a pretty lady from the Oregon Gardens this weekend.

Great pictures rc! Like your weed.
Like the bees from both you and Irwells. That bumble bee is incredible! I still can’t figure out how they can fly. Tried to take a pic of one by the river the other day, but I couldn’t keep up scrambling over the rocks. LOL
Bea….I don’t think I’ve seen a goldfinch puffed up like that, how neat! The ones at my feeders are always so slim.
Julie…beautiful!
Judi…your gardens are looking lovely!
Pony....I've had Dracenia get way taller than that, lost one this winter. I'm betting once you get them in bigger pots, they'll be fine.
Bea... the unknown thing is likely some kind of sambucus. possibly sambucus thundercloud or black beauty. the finch is sooooo cute.
Portland... your yard is looking great. I love all of it. I'm really not sure what my weed is. some sort of grass. I'll get a picture of it from a little more of a distance, it might look a little more familiar that way.
Thanks RJ... I love that 'carry me away'. Yep, there are so many pretty weeds out there!
Irwells... love the punk rocker.

Beahive I love the happy little finch. I don't usually like birds but that one is exceptional! I haven't been to the Oregon Gardens yet - I think I need to make that trip.
RC love the kitty! My two old cats mostly eat grass & weeds, then lay around on the porch until they puke up what they ate. Yours looks like much more fun!
Raregem love that blue iris! Swoon swoon!
I am so fortunate to have the advice of my garden designer neighbor. Now I need to work on the front yard!
Yeah, I know exactly what you mean abou tthat Judi. My cat in that picture used to run around with me everywhere, but always stay about 10' away, sort of hide, and then supervise from there. But, as she's become older, she's taken to doing exactly what yours do most of them time. But, every now and then, she'll take off around the yard again as if she were 15 yrs. younger.
My two old ones have a dialogue going with the two cats that live next door. The neighbor's cats are named Smoke and Stash! They have their own little society with the cat from across the street. Sometimes mine just supervise from the front porch - they are so lazy!
lol. how funny. the have their own little cat click just like people do!
Pony, I agree with the dracenia analysis. Bigger pots, or the garden itself and they should perk right up. I love them when they are little as fillers in my pots, and then kick them out into the garden when they get bigger. I have had some get huge, and they add a wonderful tropical efffect to the garden. I have lost quite a few over harsh winters, but they grow quickly, so can be easily replaced if that happens. Great that you will be able to make the roundup...it should be a wonderful time!
Judi, It's wonderful to see more of your garden...it is just lovely! I especially like the flagstone path with the stepables...beautiful!
Bea, Your goldfinch is just adorable again! And the frog whirlygig....grin! I am glad that the cutter bees are just building nests and will not chew your leaves that way all summer. You could almost forgive them for having good taste in nesting material!
RC, Your weed patch is very pretty...especially compared to knotweed! Your kitty looks so happy in there as well. Isn't it funny how they slow down as they get older, and then all of the sudden have a flash of kitten/puppy hit them?
Didn't spend much time in the yard last night. My evening chore of replacing a sprinkler head and staking another one came to a screeching halt when I realized that not only the head was bad, but the funny pipe attaching it was split as well, and I needed parts/glue/more time to fix that, so I gave up and went up to Mom's to hang out and be lazy.
Did get a pic of my latest iris to open....Sweet Ballerina
Maybe the cats all need their own email. I often sit on the front porch with my laptop and the cats could do the same. Felines are smart enough to work the keyboard!
