My tipsy pots are starting to fill in, still haven't found any white bacopa to put in it.
Garden Pics: 'Postcards from the Garden.'...#7
There are things I'm glad no one has seen me do. Like charging after nutria with a broom in my night gown! Or breaking up cat fights in the middle of the night! I'm thinking even digging up plants that are way too big is not a pretty sight. Even the view people see all summer long when I'm bent over pulling weeds....not a pretty sight at all. LOL
I watched this little guy try to get into the feeder for the longest time. It closes with his weight so he never gets anything.
That thundestorm looks awsome! Did it bring cooler weather? If so, we would love to have you send it our way. My outside temp reads 93 right now!
Sally, your tipsy pots are really cool! Don't you love it when they start to fill in? I always look at mine this time of year and compare them to the ones that the garden centers are selling and think hmmmm....mine will never be that nice. Fortunately they usually come into their own fairly quickly!
Nice clem pic Mom! DH says that it has been really muggy at home as well as hot. Makes my day in the AC seem ok. Would be happy for some sprinkles now though as watering has gotten to be quite a chore!
This is our Orchid Cactus at work. It's blooms are fading quickly as it is still very hot in the office at the start of the day, so I grabbed a pic to share while it was still good. I have seen it bloom many times, but the size and loveliness of the blooms stuns me every time!
Rarejem that Cruise Control is sooooo beautiful. Where did you get the bulbs?
Julie I love that hosta, what is it?
And Sharon which clem is that?
Ooooh that clematis is to die for. I've wanted some of those for years. I have nowhere suitable to put them though. (yet!)
Man, the temp dropped 20 degrees here in a couple of hours. The wind is a bit much. I hope we get the thunderstorm they've been promising us all week, though! I love a good thunderstorm!
Judi, I have gotten all of my "fancy" iris through Cooley's Iris sales. They have a sale flyer that comes out in the spring/summer with GREAT prices on some older iris around $3 (that are still very new to me) and I have picked up bunches of them there over the last several years. I have no idea how I got on that mailing list, but won't knock it! Everything that they send is wonderfully healthy, and the stuff that I have managed to save from rot and slugs has performed stunningly.
Thistle, The hosta is Revolution. It is beautiful, but SOOOOO slow to increase for me. I bought several small plants (I think it was a Costco "four of this variety/four of that variety" package) probably about 5 or 6 years ago, and they are FINALLY looking good for me. I wouldn't be without it, but am glad that I hadn't counted on it to fill the spot that I planted it in!

Yeah the temps dropped here fast too. Haven't heard thunder or seen lightning. Have had high winds but they're gone now. my friend in Central WA says they were to have high winds tonight so I guess that's where we're getting it from (as well as all the hot weather). I want/need rain!
I'll try to find the name of the clematis. First glances at my "really organized" records didn't give me a clue. Maybe, LOL, the name tag is still underneath the plant.
Sounds as if we've all had a sort of mixed bag of a day as far as what nature has thrown at us!
Rj.... lovely pics! I really like the "bowl of columbine!" Not something that you see every day.
Sharron... that clem is a beauty.
Sally, great storm pics! I really like those tipsy pots too. Where did you find those?
Hope everyone came out Ok from the storms yesterday. It was a short one here with high winds, heavy rains and t-storms. Made a mess of my yard and a lot of tree limbs down around town.
Everyones post from yesteday were great. I did get a few shots taken yesterday before the storm and in between entertaining family who are in town.
I was surprised to see this open so early, but I guess with the heat and humidity of this past week it was ready to bloom.
Bea, wonderful pics as usual. Love the poppy-is it a perennial? I have Nichole, too, but not in bloom yet. Yes, it is wonderful.
My hosta are coming into their own. Please ignore the front of the bed, which is waiting for impatiens. I spent more time watering the last few days than I have finishing up on my planting, and am pretty frustrated about it.
What a lovely way to start the day. Beautiful gardens Bea and Sharon. The colors are so vibrant and I love the golden chain. Our neighbor used to have one, then new people moved in and it was gone!! I couldn't believe it. But they didn' like it. I don't have room for another tree unless I get rid of other things.
rc......thats just pots stacked on a piece of rebar. You each one to the other side, thus the 'tipsy' part. You just use pots that have a large enough hole in the bottom so you can lean them. I went inexpensive terra cotta, but some used really pretty pots and made yard art of it. I saw it last year on DG and had to try it. Took it down for winter, then stacked them back up a couple of weeks ago. Some people were using them for herbs or strawberrys. I remember one person who had one right outside her kitchen door with herbs, so they were handy.
Looks like those of you down in Oregon got hit worse than we did with the storm. Wind blew like crazy, and it rained for about 5 minutes....then it was over at my house. Am pretty happy it is a little cooler today though...the baby plants didn't like being thrown from 60 to 90 degrees so quickly!
Judi, I fibbed to you in my post above about where I got the iris...I edited it now, but figured I would make a note for anyone who had read it and didn't go back....the iris came from Cooley's Iris gardens...their $3 spring/summer sale. Too good to pass up!
Bea, Just awesome pics! That poppy is too cool! I also can't believe your pic of your unknown iris..the texture in the picture is awesome! It makes the edges of the petals look almost like they are highlighted!
Mom, Very nice! I really like the primula/JM combo!
Sally, So on the tipsy pots, the rebar goes through the hole in the pot...you put the pot at the level/area you want it to be, and then tip it to hold it there? Or is there come kind of stop/bracket at each pot? I really love the look!
So a couple of new iris started for me this morning despite the cooler weather. This is Saratoga Sunset.
So many blooms. Beautiful all. My roses, foxglove, poppys and peonys all popped out overnight. Like it was finally safe to come-out.
Beautiful pictures Julie.
This is what I used for the tipsy pots. My sis sent me the link. I hope this works, if not I can tell you how I did mine.

When you fill the bottom pot, the next one will rest on the soil and you set it the angle and fill.
Willow, isn't it amazing how everthing just seemed to explode when the weather got warm? My yard is just the same!
Sally, Thanks tons! I get it now, and that is way too cool! I love the look of the hanging planters, but supporting them (and then not having the hangers break and toss them to the ground) has always been a challenge. Something like that if driven far enough in the ground would be a sturdy fixture. Gonna have to try it next year! Thanks!!!!!
