June flowers...

West Pottsgrove, PA(Zone 6b)

The irises are almost done... this is 'Fall Fiesta'. They could've named it 'Fall Over', but it's a good excuse to bring them indoors when they fall

Look at those foxgloves! That penstemon is really pretty too, Claypa. Here's some old timey sundrops I got starts of from my mom. She's been growing them forever.

Oooo, unusual color, Claypa. More from Walmart and the photo isn't quite capturing the glowing red on the impatiens, which is just as dark and bright as the salvia.

New Dawn isn't a real heavily scented rose compared to the antique ones I grow, but with this many blooms, the fragrance just washes over you when you walk by.

Bellflowers again with knautia on the left. Knautia is such a great plant - they bloom for months.

Posting this America bloom again for Stormy.

Very nice, Claypa
Hart do you have the Knautia in part shade?

Shenandoah Valley, VA

Yes, those plants are. They get a lot of sun in the morning and again in late afternoon, though. I have some more planted in another bed that get pretty much full sun.

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

Claypa, Your Hosta garden is looking great. The foxglove looks wonderful there. I have a Splish Slash yet to plant. How tall does yours get? Is it in part shade? That "Fall Fiesta" is to die for!!

West Pottsgrove, PA(Zone 6b)

Thanks stormyla. The splish-splash is almost three feet tall, mostly shade. It's to the left of the center of this pic. To the right of that geranium gets a lot more sun, and it's a lot of daylilies, and the rest is all natives back there, besides the hostas. Lots of seedlings in there this year. This was all lawn last march. I hate mowing hillsides!!! And flat areas too, for that matter.

I gotta get rid of that pole someday..

Amen - I've gotten rid of every bit of grass in my front yard!! I say leave the pole and plant a vine...LOL

Diane - that color is yummy...reminds me of a Bahama Mama drink...

Shenandoah Valley, VA

I've never had a Bahama Mama but it sounds like my kind of drink. LOL Oh, BTW, Stormy, stocks are annuals. They smell wonderful.

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Mmmm-mmmm Stock....very yummy

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

Hart, Thanks! That America bloom is soooo pretty. I like those cute little Sundrops too. I can't wait to see your Dahlia bed. How many kinds did you plant?

BTW LOVE Bahama Mamas!!!

Claypa: Bluestone says Penstemon Smalli is short-lived, but reseeds. Yours is beautiful. How long have you had it? Does it reseed?

West Pottsgrove, PA(Zone 6b)

Let's see...winter sowed Jan. '07, bloomed '08 and again this year, except one plant that is barely visible in the lower left corner of the picture above. I haven't noticed any seedlings, but I collected seeds last fall and planted more this winter. I got more penstemon seeds in a swap, Gulf coast and Rocky Mountain penstemon. They both sprouted, so far so good. I really like them

That's really nice Claypa. Are Penstemon generally slow growing from seed? A couple of seedlings that I got from the swap have not gained much height as of yet.

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

I am just amazed at this Rugosa Fimbriata putting out different colors of blooms.

I suppose so, the others planted this spring are still small. It's pretty funny, when you look at Tom Clothier's germination database, there are categories for annuals/biennials, perennials, trees and shrubs, AND penstemons...

Snow angel is looking good Claypa. Here's another poppy. Don't know this one's name.

These Salvia were looking so good and now they've all opened up from the center and are all spread out. I wonder of too much water cases that. Anyone know?

I love Dianthus. A neighbor brought these to me.

Same neighbor also gave me these little cuties.

I love the bright color of these.

This is the third year for these and they are now quite large plants. With shearing, they will bloom all summer. They stay evergreen. Until this year I never realized how fragrant they are.

I am so enthralled with these miniature brooms. They have been blooming non stop for at least 3 weeks. They are Genista Lydia.

This Snow in Summer has been blooming for 3 weeks too. I think this is also evergreen.

Here's a weed that I let grow because I liked the blooms. I dug a hugh patch of sedum out of here. I'm transplanting all of my low sedums to the outside of the tree line under my roadside bed. Nothing else much will survive out there.

This is a new aster for me, put in last fall. It blooms spring and fall. I have 8 of these. Not so sure yet how much I like it's habit. It tends to get taller and have a spindly look, but maybe that's because the plants are still young.

Look at that rose! Maybe the odd color is a sport? The leaves on that rose are beautiful.

I had the prettiest bright blue penstemons I got at Bluestone a couple of years ago but I don't think they came back this year. Boy, were they a pretty color.

Sweet williams are among my favorite flowers and they smell so good. I've tried growing them twice in my upper bed and they just melt away to nothing. Some kind of disease I suppose although it could be the black walnuts up there. I should try again in the other beds.

I had 18 dahlia tubers, each a different variety, but Jello got into the box (bones!!!!) and chewed the neck off of one. It doesn't show any signs of sprouting so I think she chewed off the sprouting part. So make it 17. I bought some but also got a big box of nice dahlias in Tod's giveaway over in the dahlia forum.

I have the same problem with Jello and potatoes (balls!!!!!!) and have to hide my potatoes where she can't find them. We've had this no they aren't balls discussion many times but I haven't convinced her.

Stormy - re http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=6640921 Are those red or pink? Gorgeous!!!!

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

Chantel, They are a true bright red. They also come in Hot pink.

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

OMG Stormy - if you even decide you have enough to part with a clump please keep me in mind...have a perfect place for it. Happy to send you some of mine in exchange...they're a pastel pinkish purple with a wonderful scent.

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

Give it some time Chantell, I'm just adding some more of them to complete a row. If these get much larger over the summer, I will divide and give you some. I don't think you're supposed to let them get big enough to open up in the center and these ones are close to that.

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

No rush...promise...just mentioning it b/c that color and your describing the scent.... And ummmm, I didn't know about the whole "don't think you're supposed to let them get big enough to open up in the center"...'splain that to me please...my brain is having "a moment"

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

Chantell, I'm talking about the plant itself not the blooms. Normally they are nice grey rounded mounds. These are getting so big and floriferous that the weight of the blooms is making the plant split open in the center and exposing the brown underside.

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

Hart, look at those nuts forming already!

I believe you! I just wish I knew how you keep them from killing your roses and other plants.

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

SSSSHHHH! It's my secret!

Here's an ugly. After yesterday's rain, all 4 of my Salvia are like this. Do you think it's all of the rain or maybe they need to be divided? The black string is my camera holder.

Here's the same plant 5 days ago.
