Best/ worse/ ? did you learn today? #106 visit with friends!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Carol, meant to ask before I got on my tangent...when you are out and about, could you look and see if any of the nurseries have that deep purple lilac (almost black)..there are about 5 of us wanting it, could make a trip and pick them up????

Many local nurseries have dark purple but not this dark one

Oh Liz, no wonder you are thrilled, isn't she a beauty, would it be laying time for ducks? didn't you have several was it at work that you took under your wing then they went missing or one of them did? ahhh wish I had one in my pond...

OMG/OMG just had to come and tell you all..

Hadn't checked the phone when I got in from town, Nora (MIL) had left a message on the telephone asking me to call...

Called her and she thanked me for the invite and said with it being so cold out they'd not come...so I did not give her the chance, know they go out to eat all the time so I said, no difference other than a few miles to your local restaurant you usually go to, you HAVE to eat even if it's cold, what time do you want me to have supper ready, wasn't I bold, she kind of hymed and hawed, but then she said around 4 or 5 lol...not going to let her get away with it..she'll never be able to say I was rude or didn't keep in contact...

Problem is, lol, now I have to cook....

Pacifica, CA

betty, oh boy now you will be busy today have a nice visit.
the other ducks are at work im just thrilled to death she chose this house to hang out at
i had a duck back in 1999 just loved him to death i never thought i would see another in the yard since the dogs patrol all the birds here, as as i speak she is sleeping up on the roof :) i dont know if she is looking to put up a nest, i hope not i think one of my fox terriors would be a problem on that.

carol, the guy from animal control told us that, after i got in trouble for hitting that one with the stick lol
but they dont come by very often now

mary, sounds yummy i have never tried crawdads they say they taste a bit like lobster?

Tulsa, OK(Zone 7a)

Carol oh love your iris.. Hello everyone..

Betty no wonder you want that lilac beautiful.

everyone have wonderful Sunday and a blessed week.Thinking of you all.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

As usual I am lurking and recovering from the trip to Texas.

Waved to you and son Mary!! Not sure when our next trip to Disney will be but it will be sometimes this summer.

Love all the pictures of plants--need to get some blooming down here but so far no luck!! Mostly green textures until I finish my gardens.

Betty, the more I read the more I think we have experienced the identical situations with our hubbies!!! I am still dealing with the fact he didn't want our daughter there when the time came. His decision. She is the one of the two who was having great difficulty with the approaching end and now I deal with it daily but things are getting better. Looking back, if I hadn't been in a state of denial (I know that now but not then) I am not sure what I would have done. It has been very hard for both of us and I was trying so hard to do what he was asking of me. Much counseling and many prayers, we are moving forward.

Send some of the cooler weather this way--we are having the low 90's but it is sticky and miserable outside. Well I am off to Lowes for some things I need to assemble the stacking pots I ordered on a co op.

Baton Rouge, LA

Betty - Bless you for your strength....I hope I would do the same in your situation....but I might have been one to say...."Okay then maybe next time".....

No matter the food....this is a big step and once it's done...hopefully will lead to more. I'm so happy for you!

Sorry you had a similar situation Marion.....I've never been put in a spot like that...hope to never have that situation...... I waved at you too Marion! I know I was right nearby...I looked for the Havana exit....but missed it both ways. We used to look for it and get a laugh out of it. (Cuba is just an exit away!).

We stayed at that Fairfield Suites right off Hwy 71 (?) I-10 exit. Hope your trip to Texas was good - you'll have to fill us in!

LOL Liz - your happiness just jumps out ....I am happy for you! Our pond is way to small to attract a duck...but it would be fun to have one. I laughed at your 'duck decoy'....I don't know how but somehow we ended up with all kinds of artificial birds throughout the yard, several ducks, an owl, a heron (DH uses to try to scare the squirrels...)

Headed to pick up some stuff to cook....suppose you are also Betty ....I'll check back after running to the store...

Hugs,
Mary

Victoria Harbour, ON

Rocks out of my car, hit the town car wash and vacuumed the ton of dirt out, put my boots inside and shovel..know what I'll be doing each night on my way home..

Marion, hind sight is 20/20..doing what you can for your loved one is all you have left to do, but like you, OMG I'd never have done it had I know..Roger came from a family of 11, I would say Paul (boss) Suzanne SIL (co-worker) Marguerite and Robert are the only ones that speak to me and only over the past few years...

If only they knew...it was Christmas day and Roger didn't want anyone around including me and the boys, we sat on the bed, curtain drawn so he thought we left..remember bought Jeff a keyboard piano, thank goodness it had a plug in so he could play to entertain himself while we sat..I always went to Florida with girlfriends as Roger never wanted to leave the cold north, too much fun snowmobiling...at one point he said to the boys 'if I ever get sick again, go buy your mom a ticket to Florida so she won't be bugging me...' of course the bugging was making sure he was ok, making sure he was settled..lol...

Bad times Marion, am sure you've many of the same to share..what was worse is they put him in a lock down ward and called it 'shut down unit' well didn't take long to know what that meant..doctor at that point still hadn't told us he was dying..anyway, the room was full of patients (6) who were dying so the nurses felt overwhelmed by the size of family trying to get in as well as friends...

Must be the cooking supper that has brought all these memories back...

Chicken and roast in the oven, pie cooked, salad made, potatoes/carrots pealed and ready-dishwasher unloaded ready the dishes..talk about organized ..was going to go out for an hour or so but still far too windy so out comes the paint brush and red paint..lol

One would hate just to sit...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Old chair set I found along side of the road will take on a new look...fresh red paint..

Needs another coat but think I'll do it after the guests arrive, am sure they'll not be here more than 1 hr.!

I'll keep the other chair and table for painting in the evenings this week....

Well here I am, dinner ready and waiting...

What are you all up to today, anything exciting, hope it's more exciting than I..lol

(Laura) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Well, two steps forward, one step back. I’m down to about a quarter of what I had been smoking, but I had to pick up a pack. It’s just too hard to go full cold turkey. I’m still working on quitting, it’s just going to be slow.

Glenview, IL

Hi Betty and everyone!

That chair is so beautiful!!

Well, I've just been crazy busy, trying to get everything done by friday! Graduation day. Party on Saturday.
So things are coming together seems like to slow but it's getting done here, there and everywhere.
Now, if I could just make everyone not leave there things laying around then I'll be ready for the big event.

Jacob is so excited, he has already been going to the HS to do weight lifting for football next season. He's so cute come home everyday singing then hollars bye mom...LOL, I hollor back where going? duh to the weight room!

Working on my RWB project in between yanking of the weeds, laundry etc..etc. so I am getting tired again. Working on project and thought geesh haven't said hello to you yet...

But, I've dug up another row in the back there, weeded the pool area...LOL, I have ferns growing in the deck, just left those babies alone.
Planted some pretty annuals..I got Lambs Ear for the first time ever so I actually made a small bed for them.

ok, off to my project...see you later.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Oh Betty, does that chair make a statement!! Love the color.

Mary some of our antics have been posted on the previous thread I think. It was so much fun getting to met so many and we laughed until our sides ached.

Waving to Judy--miss you!!!

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Evening everyone.....hope it goes well Betty....
.
Got the new pump in the back patio water feature.... need to get all cleaned out and replanted now that I know there is water flow again....got to be a real mess when the pump was out....trying to get all the winter collection of junk dealt with so that the patio is usable again.....been in the upper seventies and eighties all week and predicted for this coming week...is about time!!!!

Got the last of the plants in the ground...until I pick up more that is.....

Want to get an area marked out and sod removed to put in rock or pavers as a base area for the bird bath so it won't be in the way of Larry's mowing..........then maybe a permanent place for the lawn swing too....

Bill is back from his ride and ready to eat so talk to you later...........

Victoria Harbour, ON

OMG Trisha, heavy work doing those pavers...think it would look lovely having it under a swing...you didn't go biking today with Bill??? Trisha, you'll have to go look for fields of rock to do your patio, is the land there very rocky?? her in Georgian Bay it's all rock, so very little trouble finding supplies to make walkways...what is hard to find is muscles to pick the rocks up..

Laura, maybe there are just too many things going on right now for you to be trying to quit smoking..you'll do it I'm sure...can one quit by slowly cutting down?

Stacey you never did say how your interview went??? any news???

Judy, Jacob is a big boy size wise, he'd be a perfect football player..how wonderful that he's taking the initiative to body build...are you sure Judy there are any more weeds left in your yard..you've been working like the dickens since forever..

Mary, what did you get up to today...settling in after your travelling..
Crissy how about you?

They both arrived shortly after I last posted and they just left...you could tell this was her last favorite place to visit, but Marguerite is a doll, such a funny sense of humor, really enjoyed her visiting as always...

The meal was perfect, although I cooked for 10 and we were 3..so funny, Marg ate almost 1/2 the loaf of hot bread I made..said she hadn't tasted anything as yummy..must of been the honey I put in the mixture..lol..

While eating and gabbing about people we knew, Nora said that one day she'd have to call an old friend who lived in Victoria Harbour, up I got and called her, invited her for the desert portion of the meal..they chatted up a storm..Ann stayed for about an hour, had to leave because she is going to Toronto in the a.m. cancer is back..she had a lung removed, a growth in her throat (very hoarse when she speaks) and 6 months ago found out she had a tumour near the brain and they did not want to operate...so tomorrow she's going for an update...

But it was fun...

Best Today....got MIL out of her shell, at least for an hour or so
Worse Today...hearing about Ann
What did I learn today?...MIL brought 12 pairs of slacks for shortening..lol..oh well..gives me something to do..

Was going to go outside and get the other chair and table but nope, heading for my bath, waiting for this load of dishwashing to be done so I can refill and do another, tidy up and to bed I go..been a busy weekend...

Night/night
Good Lord willing, we'll talk tomorrow!

Baton Rouge, LA

Hello To All;

Judy - What are you all doing for the graduation party? (looking for some "one year early" ideas. :) )
I've always wanted to buy Lambs Ear.....it's so soft ...hard not to touch it at the nursery. Jacob's getting ready for football season early....DS is doing the same...already working out and practicing his drumming....I can tell it's affected him knowing he'll be a Senior next year....he's taking everything more seriously....or so it seems....

Trisha - eating early tonight? Possibly lunch. :)
OMG Trisha - the eggplant parmesan was SO good! Thank you so much! DS & DH loved it. Plus it made me feel good to use eggplant, green peppers, Basil, Oregano, and Parsley out of the garden. I served it with zucchini from the garden and Texas Toast.

Betty - A Good evening overall for you! Quick thinking on inviting Ann. Meal sounded yummy! Did MIL leave you hemming to do? If so - very Odd! But alls well that ends well...

Marion - I'll have to read back. I bet your yard was a foot taller when you got back from all that Rain! Can you believe somehow we missed most of it?

I told Dad there was a little circle of dry weather right around the car. And it followed us for the most part. :)

Ran into the kid's friend's Mom at the grocery last week.....and I said "Oh I was fixing to call you to plan the Exchange Student Going away party". She looked shocked and then said...I thought you knew....we found out DS is "pregnant". (He is one of the graduating seniors this year....his sister is really close to DS and DD's). She was quite upset....We chatted for a bit....then I said "well I'll call you in a day or two" and left. I was so surprised...I didn't respond I feel appropriately. I wonder if I should send a card or something.

Headed to disboards...back in a bit.

Hugs to All,
Mary

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

I love that chair and the dark purple lilac. I wish I could get a cutting of it for my propogator that Greg bought me. I am horrid and knowing right where to cut to propogate. Especially roses.

(Laura) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Betty, that is at least part of my problem; most of my life right now makes me want to smoke. But, as DH said, there will always be something, if you wait for there not to be some reason you don’t want to try to quit right now, you’ll never quit.

It is possible to quit smoking by cutting down. You just try to smoke less and less until you realize you aren’t smoking. I don’t think I’ll be able to do exactly that. But, if you cut down how much you’re smoking the amount you body expects is less so it’s easier to deal with when you don’t have it.

I’m not doing well today; I’ve smoked way too much and am still nic-fiting. I’m trying to fix my sleep schedule so I didn’t sleep much last night and don’t want to go to sleep until at least mid-night, but I’m hosed.

The big thing is to keep trying. This is about the point I’ve given up in the past. Where I know it’s not going to happen right away so why not just not bother right now, worry about it later, and start really smoking again. But even though I’m smoking too much right now I’m already figuring out why and though I’ve basically written today off, I know I’ll be back to trying tomorrow.

Ames, NE(Zone 5b)

Hi All...Long day .Worked in shop till 12:30..Girls & GKs came...I'm sure now I know why you have kids when you are young...LOL

EVE'S SIDE OF THE STORY

After three weeks in the Garden of Eden, God came to visit Eve. 'So, how is everything going?' inquired God.

'It is all so beautiful, God,' she replied. 'The sunrises and sunsets are breathtaking, the smells, the sights, everything is wonderful, but I have just one problem.

It's these breasts you have given me. The middle one pushes the other two out and I am constantly knocking them with my arms, catching them on branches and snagging them on bushes. They're a real pain.'

And Eve went on to tell God that since many other parts of her body came in pairs, such as her limbs, eyes, ears, etc. She felt that having only two breasts might leave her body more 'symmetrically balanced'.

'That's a fair point,' replied God, 'But it was my first shot at this, you know. I gave the animals six breasts, so I figured that you needed only half of those, but I see that you are right. I will fix it up right away.'

And God reached down, removed the middle breast and tossed it into the bushes

Three weeks passed and God once again visited Eve in the Garden of Eden.

'Well, Eve, how is my favorite creation?'
'Just fantastic,' she replied, 'But for one oversight. You see, all the animals are paired off. The ewe has a ram and the cow has her bull. All the animals have a mate except me. I feel so alone.'

God though for a moment and said, 'You know, Eve, you are right How could I have overlooked this? You do need a mate and I will immediately create a man from a part of you. Let's see....where did I put that useless boob?'

Now doesn't THAT make more sense than all that crap about the rib?

My first E-mail today..COOL

~DEATH~
WHAT A WONDERFUL WAY TO EXPLAIN IT..

A sick man turned to his doctor as he was preparing to

Leave the examination room and said,

'Doctor, I am afraid to die.

Tell me what lies on the other side.'

Very quietly, the doctor said, 'I don't know.'

'You don't know? You, a Christian man,

Do not know what is on the other side?'

The doctor was holding the handle of the door;

On the other side came a sound of scratching and whining,

And as he opened the door, a dog sprang into the room

And leaped on him with an eager show of gladness.

Turning to the patient, the doctor said,

'Did you notice my dog?

He's never been in this room before.

He didn't know what was inside.

He knew nothing except that his master was here,

And when the door opened, he sprang in without fear.

I know little of what is on the other side of death,

But I do know one thing...

I know my Master is there and that is enough.'

May today there be peace within you.

May you trust God that you are exactly

Where you are meant to be.

I believe that friends are quiet angels

Who lift us to our feet when our wings

Have trouble remembering how to fly.

Sharran, that is beautiful. I love that color, and the blue with the yellow accents you added will just pop!

Zhinu, I am praying you are able to quit smoking. I hope your strenght in fighting this wins.

Betty, so proud of you with your MIL. I understand what you went through with Roger not wanting anyone to see him....he was trying to protect them also. But as a Mom, it would hurt deeply if my kids turned me away....such a hard hard issue. Again, so happy she came and had dinner with you, which sounded delicious.

We are expecting more rain today. It has rained daily for five days now I believe. Everything is very lush and green, however I need to get out and do some gardening. The skeeters are overpowering right now also.

Well, I made tea this morning for a change. Going to go have a cup...and maybe doze back off...the morning came way to early. Everyone have a great day.

Morning everyone. Love the blue on the furniture. It looks really nice! Betty, hope your not too sore, after moving those stones?
Tubby, what are you working on, that keeps you so busy? Birdhouses, gardening?

LK

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning, a busy one this morning, don't know why I'm behind when I started out earlier than usual..

Looked at the clock and it said 5:15am, thought omg the alarm didn't go off at 4:45am so up and at it I went, load of wash, load of dishes, did the bed and on to steam clean the floors...time to leave, looked at the clock and it was 7..omg remembered that I don't work in the city anymore and didn't have to get up until 6:30, so put the timer on, layed on the couch and had me a nap..

This morning there were weekend calls to be dealt with, Paul came in about 1 hr. ago and was thrilled at all the bookings I've made this month and for this week, so that's good news..

Not sure what it wants to do today but it's awfully cold..had spring clothing on and went and changed to winter slacks/sweater..few drops of rain on my way in, sky is dark and they are calling for thunderstorm...yikes, forgot to put things in front of the cupboard that houses my nice stained glass lamp..Sailor frets and always tries to get behind it...hope it waits until I get home...

Nope, no sore bones..went out and looked at the setting and I'll not overdo each night..if I can get 8 a night it should do my project..only leaving the digging and arranging till the weekend...

I'm so glad there is no class tonight...just too hard having 3 nights fully filled...

Thanks Debbie, don't say we'll be friends dear MIL and I and yes I can appreciate her feelings but like I said had she read that journal I kept for 3 weeks she surely should have understood how difficult things were...my SIL Linda said I should have written a small novel on what happens when someone is dying..the trauma of it all..you know, sometimes when I feel like a good cry, out it comes and boy do I release those tears..

Laura, don't beat yourself up...it's truly stressful..get a second breath and try again...each and every time I'm sure it gets a little easier..

Shar that's a beautiful setting, can just see you with coffee in hand, your writting journal spending the time of day...in photo #1 Shar, can't believe how the flowers are mature..you'll have to share photo's...

LindaKay, what are you up to today?

Dawn, what does a propogator look like..bet it's something we should all have..do you think it would work on the lilac's..

Darlene was telling me that she planted a bunch of lilac's dug on the side of the road and they never bloomed..something to do with male/female..lordy how can you tell which is which??? hmmm that would be a hard one..

Victoria Harbour, ON

Thanks for the beautiful posts 'tubby' and yes what are you working on now??? How's Shirley doing, working today or keeping you company?

Victoria Harbour, ON

For you all.....

Good Morning !!!!
This morning when I wakened
And saw the sun above,
I softly said, 'Good morning , Lord ,
Bless everyone I love'

Right away I thought of you
And said a loving prayer ,
That He /SHE would bless you specially ,
And keep you free from care.
I thought of all the happiness
A day could hold in store,
I wished it all for you because
No one deserves it more .
I felt so warm and good inside,
My heart was all aglow .
I know God heard my prayers for you ,
He/SHE hears them all, you know.

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Betty, we are well into our summer season, and it will be in the mid 90's this week. All my bulbs and spring blooms are gone, and the daylilies are starting their second week of blooms.

I have some lovely ones too...some new, some old. I might have showed you this earlier, not sure, but I like the white in the dark shady setting....

Thumbnail by Sharran
Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

And a new one for me, from a friend in California....
This daylily is called Purple Paws Print

Thumbnail by Sharran
Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

And of course there are the roses......

Thumbnail by Sharran
Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Just so you don't think I am confused, that first lily, the white one is not a daylily....I have more photos, and will try to remember to post later. Need to do some serious weeding today.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Beautiful, Shar I love that tree, look at the bark..you won't tell me it's artificial now will you? So if everything blooms now, in July/August what would you have for color?

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

I don't do artificial outside, my dear...that is the River Birch tree. I love it too. It lost its top to the ice storm, but it just seemed to get fuller in the middle now.

The daylilies will continue into July, then cone flowers, balloon flowers, and some tropicals that I have. And my vines, morning glories, Chinese lanten, moonflower, gayfeather, the plum-y things, the perennials. So I have things blooming most of the time. The lull was in early May, after iris and before daylilies, but roses usually spring to life then, so it isn't bloomless for long.

and another....

Another...
Oops, did I post this earlier??

Thumbnail by Sharran
Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Yep, I did, sorry....
Anyway, and then I have the red ones, and thought that's what I was posting. I have too many photos, ugh.
