He let me shoot about 80 pictures! These are over a year old, and I just found them in a folder I don't think I ever saw before. Canon tags folders by date, and I apparently downloaded several days at the same time.

Klamath River, CA

The thunder and lightning didn't bother this pair of Calif. Quail, but when it started raining they beat a hasty retreat for the blackberry bushes.

Las Cruces, NM

Super pictures everyone!

The weather has been windy and rainy, with overcast skies, here for the past couple of weeks; so I haven't gotten to do much bird watching. Yesterday morning was finally clear, so I grabbed my camera and headed down to a little park along the Rio Grande.

This time of year, hundreds of cliff swallows build nests under the bridge that crosses the river. I was a bit disappointed that the nests were way out in the middle of the bridge this year's … too far away to get any good photos. Even so, it was still fun just watching all of the swallows flying to and from their nests.

Here's a picture (from last year) of some swallow nests, with babies in them. They were under the same bridge; but only a few feet from the bank of the river.

Along the water's edge, I saw this Black-Crowned Night Heron; which flew away before as soon as it spotted me.

One thing that turned out to be a pleasant surprise was the number of robins and blackbirds I saw. Several small puddles of water had softened the ground, making it much easier for these birds to dig up bugs and worms. Here's a picture of one of the male red-winged blackbirds.

And, here's a female red-winged blackbirds.

I counted at least a dozen robins, including this one that was happy to pose for me.

Here's another robin, up in a cottonwood tree.

Here's one last robin that thankfully didn't offer to share its lunch with me.
