Hi everyone ,

Well since sending the box today or tomorrow wouldn't make a difference to you Gail as to it's delivery I did send it today , I wish you would be getting it by Sat but ....................anyway the tracking # is 0307 1790 0002 6070 8381 , you can tell the box has been traveling , it looks like I feel if I ride too much , I wanted to add more things but will on the next run , this has been fun and I am sure in the Fall the plants and leaves will stay crispier , I hope you get them in good shape Gail , thank you everyone :)

Thank you Bonnie for the info , some plants I just have no clue about as with the Sinns but they look so pretty so will do my best to take good care of it :)

Yeah! It's almost done! This has gone alot smoother than I thought it would! You guys are great! (don't worry, Connie . . . I'll wake Gail up on Saturday if I see that it's been delivered to the post office!)

I've also changed the plane icon on the map to a car, 'cause the plane would look funny flying backwards! (I couldn't change the direction is was pointing!)

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I really do wake up in the morning, gals!! I just sit in a stupor for an hour drinking coffee so I won't miss calling the post office, but it always takes 3 days for anything to come...............^_^

Ottawa, IL(Zone 9a)

Gail, i have the same problem, for some reason it takes forever to get to me, it's rare to get a box in 2 days priorty mail.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I have never gotten anything in 2 days unless it is from a city here in Texas 2 hours away (LOL)

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

That's odd--I routinely receive boxes from the opposite coast in 2 days, sometimes 3, I assume, depending on how quickly the sending PO get them in the pipeline. Of course that is dependent upon when the sending PO receives the package. I have my packages sent to the PO and I pick them up there. Tracking will inform you of arrival by 10 am. I have noticed a dramatic decrease in staffing at my PO--Rarely >one window open.

Hi ,

For me , by the time the tracking tells me anything I already have the box in hand but I do tend to get thing byythe third day after it has shipped ( shiped Mon get it by Wed ) sometimes the next day if it is sent in state or a neighboring state that sort of thing .

Gail had an idea that maybe when it is hot maybe dry ice would be good to tape in the bottom of the box to keep it cool if it is starting out from a hot place , I was wondering where you can buy dry ice and how long it stays cool ? anybody know ? :)

I don't know about dry ice, but I have seen cooling packs listed on ebay. Just the opposite of the heat packs used in winter, these would supposedly keep plants cooler in the heat.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Why wouldn't they just melt, Nichole...............I am going to look those up on ebay............and maybe it is dry ice.............

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

It's not ice, it's cooling packs . . . probably like the reusable squishy ice packs you can keep in the freezer for first aide reasons.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

That is a great idea but I do wonder how long they last...............

Seymour, IN(Zone 5b)

Insulin is shipped with these around it and they are like the ice packs for first aide . The insulin is shipped in a styrofoam box and the ice packs are still partially frozen after three days of shipping in the styrofoam box. If that helps any. That's all I know about them.LOL Lou

Something to keep in mind for summer trading . . . ^_^

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Come on, Dispatcher, please find out more.............that is excellent information.

Richland, MI(Zone 5b)

Hello there!

I would advise against dry ice. I've worked with it a lot in the laboratory, and the temp it maintains is below zero celsius... adding a tightly closed styrofoam box will definitely freeze everything inside. In these condition, the dry ice would probably "melt" in about half a day, depending on it's quantity. If in the open, it still keeps too cold in its surroundings, though it "melts" in several hours. Another issue is that it can give people frost-bites, again, depending on how much of it one handles, and for how long... They are nasty-feeling for a couple of days, though serious marks are rarely seen...

The better option would still be, in my opinion, the regular ice packs, but they would still need some wrapping and a careful placement of the plants/leaves so they won't touch the packs. A styrofoam box with the ice packs and plants inside should definitely travel better in the heat and keep cool enough (cooler than the outside temp anyway). Of course, each of the recipients would need to re-freeze the ice-packs before sending the box futher.

Hope it helps... now I'm off to respond your advice and questions in my unhappy thread.
