Round Robin???

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I am confused! Why are you talking about what you want, Nichole? Are you talking about the round robin or a trade?

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

It was a side conversation, Gail. Nothing to do with the RR. ^_^

How was your trip?

I can post that I am still out of town because I found a couple to stay at my house..............................We went shopping for me crop pants this morning with the kids and had fun................Kohl's is having a 15% off only today for senior citizens. And............one of my daughters made me buy smaller size clothes (yuk....don't want anything to touch me)...(LOL)

My 3 year old granddaughter has played pretend since I got here yesterday........she calls me Mom and her mother "Step Mom". We don't know how she knows what a step mom is............so fun and funny. I have to pretend to put her to bed.....call her Sweetie, etc...........then she looks at her real mom and says, "Step Mother, I didn't ask you a question.........I am talking to my mom now"...such a hoot!!!

We also shopped for plants for the inside of my daughter's house.............having a good time!

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Rob's Flirtatious Floozie

Sinn. Texas Zebra
Kohleria ampallang
Koh. Emily Roberts
Chirita Tamiana

I filled the box with lots of stuff. Hope you like what's in there.
Box will be on the way tomorrow AM.
I'll post the conf # as soon as I get home from PO.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I knew jannich would send you some good plants!!! This is fun to watch and play in!!!

Andalusia, AL(Zone 8b)

Morning! Just checking to see if the box arrived ok and most stuff was in good shape.I'm glad you found some good stuff you liked Eileen.

This is fun and I hope we can get another one going in the fall.Maybe Nichole will be the round robin president? ^_^ She's got my vote for doing a great job.

I'm off to pick the bluebrries, have a good day ladies.

MSU, MS(Zone 8a)

Can't wait until it gets here! I found an Everfloris EverPrecious plant today so I am going to include some of those leaves.

Pat

MSU, MS(Zone 8a)

OOPS! Sorry, I wasn't supposed to say what I was putting in but that is just one thing.

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

Oh, gee, Jan, you're making me blush! ^_^

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

OK Pat, Here we go! The box is on it's way to you. Hope you find lots to take. It's a very good selection. I didn't take too many. LOL.
Here's the Del. Conf. # 0103 8555 7496 9224 0279
You should have it either tomorrow, or at least by Saturday. Now just hope the PO is doing it's job quickly.
Enjoy the pickings.
Eileen

Kittrell, NC(Zone 7b)

I second that!! Nichole, looks like you have the job!!

MSU, MS(Zone 8a)

Okay,

It reached the Orlando P.O. so it should be here today. I will post this evening!

Pat

MSU, MS(Zone 8a)

Hey it is here!

The only thing that looked bad was the Rangler's Spanish Cavelier. They have gone to AV heaven.

These are the leaves I kept:

Streptocarpus Roulette azur
Streptocarpus Spin Art x self
Streptocarpus Bristol's Agitated Eel
Streptocarpus Happy Times

Chirita Erica

African violets: Powder keg,
Lucky Lady Bug
Enchanting Waterfall

Thanks so much to all you generous souls and thanks Nicole for doing this:)

The box will be on it way in the morning with some more freshly cut leaves. I will post the confirmation number tomorrow.

Pat

Hi all! If you guys do another round robin, I'd love to be included. I lost most of my Streps over the winter while my husband was hurt and I'm having a fit now because I don't have anything blooming. It's just not normal to not have stands full of blooms in June! LOL I'm enjoying this one vicariously, though. ^_^

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

Anyone who would like to be in a future RR, just send me a dmail with "Future RR" in the subject . . . that will make it easier for me (or whoever else may do one) to keep track of who wants to participate. ^_^

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Nichole, I am already ready for another one!! (LOL)....................

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

Well, I suppose there could be a second smaller one going, if anyone who didn't make the first one wanted to get in on one . . .

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Oh no..........love the big ones...............will wait until this is over and enough people like to do it.................

MSU, MS(Zone 8a)

Okay,

The confirmation number is 03081400000135092347. It went out early. Hopefully it will make it there on Monday.

I hope we do another one in the fall. It would give me a better chance to get babies ready because I would love to send little plants this time.

Thanks again Nicole!

Pat

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

That is a good idea, Pat. It is so much easier to send plants when the weather is cooler........just a little cooler would help. I will sign up for sure!
gail
PS We are glad you started this round robin and do thank you, Nichole!!!

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

I'm ready for another RR in the fall. I love these RRs. It's a good way to share what we have.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Oh good.........keep the names coming! At first I wasn't excited because I thought everyone's package would be dead forgetting that Nichole and I are sitting in the worst of the heat...........

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

I thought it was hotter here in FL?

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I have always heard (but don't know) that Florida weather is so much better than ours because it cools down some at night..........is that right?

How hot are your summer days out of curiosity?

MSU, MS(Zone 8a)

It doesn't get cool in the evening although the temperature may go down into the 70s in the middle of the summer. In the daytime it is already up to the 90s and will go closer to 100 the rest of the summer and incredibly humid. Can't live without air condition down here. Florida is horrible in the summer (my opinion) but I understand Texas is pretty bad too.

Question, how do folks feel about seed grown AVs & gesneriads versus propagated ones? I have started some strep seed and just won some ebay sinningia seeds. The streps are coming up already.

Pat

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

I did take weather into consideration when plotting the RR route. I had thought to send it to gail first, but she had told me she was going out of town for a few days, so I made her the next-to-last. I checked the 10-day weather forecast (I do that before I mail boxes w/plant stuff) for San Antonio and Palm Bay, and the temps in San Antonio are averaging 10 degrees higher each day. I guess you could say I saved the hottest for last! (Taft is averaging 4-5 degrees cooler than San Antonio on the forecast)

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Oh my gosh, Nichole. You are hotter than we are........bad news for you.

Pat, last year I grew several hundred sinningia seeds hoping for a real winner..........got some, too.....but didn't keep them.

I have streps coming up and divided sent by GL from a cross she did..........

I think it is great fun to grow from seed even knowing that they won't come true...........who cares......you really find some beauties this way.............sometimes they even get registered they are so special.

MSU, MS(Zone 8a)

Gessie,

Why didn't you keep your sinningias? Are people less likely to want seed grown or trade for them? I have just joined my first AV club and I am so hopelessly ignorant but I am hoping to change that. I have always just loved growing seeds and waiting for that first bloom.

I hope I have lots of plants to for our next RR. Thanks again Nicole!

Pat

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Pat, I always grow so many plants that I get overwhelmed...........I had grown 18 kinds of sinningia seed from The Gesneriad Society. Some of the better ones were Jack Evans red and purple, peloric red and purple and many more. They took up 4 shelves.......I should have given them away but I got so frustrated one day, I threw them in the trash to make space.

I wish I were better at 'not minding' packing in a box......I always make such a big deal out of packing. I literally tear up the house getting the job done. People would love sinningias from seed, so grow them. You get a lot of good surprises, too.

Ottawa, IL(Zone 9a)

i grow from seed quite often & even hybridize some of my own & really love it,it does take some time & space, the later i don't have, but i love it. here is one of my crosses called bonnie's big sister

i don't know why i am getting dupes. it did this last week too.lol

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Duplicates are fine with me!! Nice going, Bonnie........

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

I like Bonnie's Little Sister--I like pink :-D I also like the round leaves on those--are they mini's?

Ottawa, IL(Zone 9a)

Arrival at Unit, June 08, 2009, 8:10 am, KITTRELL, NC 27544

Our first RR is half-way done, after just over a week! If this keeps up, it may be possible to finish this by the end of next week! ^_^

Seymour, IN(Zone 5b)

Neat map!!!! Thanks, Lou

Kittrell, NC(Zone 7b)

I'm doing my best to shorten the time. I received the box about 12. It was back on the road at 3:30. Here is the conformation # 03070020000199809839.

WOW what a box!!

These had to be trashed.
Wrangler's Spanish Cavalier
Tiny Wood Trail
Little Jade

I kept:
Lost in Space strep.
Everpromise av leaf
Enchanted Waterfall av leaf
The Madam av leaf
Itsuko av leaf
Rob's Pink Satin av leaf
1 pk. Schultz Bloom plus
1 pk Hill Country Plant Food

There were several pk. of leaves that had more than one leaf, I took one leaf and passed the rest on.......I can't say which ones they are cause then you would know what was in the box. I didn't want to seem too greedy! LOL!!

On the next RR we need a bigger box. I could not add everything that I wanted to for fear of mashing the other contents. LOL!!

Thanks so much for doing this Nichole. It's an awesome way to build ones collection, or try other things!!

Melanie

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

You know, if the bucket is still in the box, that could be taken out. I only put it in there for stability reasons. And if someone wants to make it a bigger box, by all means use a bigger box!
