Best/ worse/ ? did you learn today? #105 visit with friends!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Drats/drats and more drats..scrolled up and this post is gone...must be something in it that doesn't want to be sent..lol..

Soooo will just do little posts this morning..tired of writting novels and puff, all gone..

Started to say I went for the bath last night and sat for no more than minutes and off to sleep I went..woke up only long enough to find my way to the bedroom..wasted night but must have needed it right...

Did get a call from the hospital though, my c-scan if scheduled for 9:30 on June 11th..because my vision is still acting up I've decided to make appt. with Dr. Fujimoto to have my vision checked..if I'm off a day, might as well make it a Dr. day..I'm sure these tests will be confirmed that my migraines have now changed to ocular migraines because of my age however, still concerned about the numbness in my finers now only in left hand...

Liz, you tell Kenny, forget the smilling, book me a flight..lol
pretty succulents, look like roses in green don't they..

Shar and Carol, you would laugh, here I was out early this a.m. in search of my wisteria...well I've a couple of little branches no more than 10" high, need a magnifying glass just to see the little leaves...I would think it won't do well, should I buy another and set this one somewhere else?
What seems to be doing great but not vining as yet is the honeysuckle..

We visited the rose garden which was absolutley devine! It was amazing as, laughter, story telling, coffee sharing..Oh and can't for get the Bailey, prayers offerend and tears shed, Was amazing as Sweet Interuption, Best Worst/Learned and many a thread came perfectly to life...even Cedrick and Bailey was there and brought many a smile pose added to such a loving community.
We gathered, nightly in BJ's Gazeebo, what a lovely fun setting. We met Mike from Austria, he is such a sweet young man, and BJ's Son Steven and his DW Gwen and Crissty...Oh yes and Gwen's mom too.

Here is where we had a special birthday Party for Janice...The neighbors were also having a party, so we got front row seats to a grand fireworks show! (this is during the day) Isn't it just lovely?

Summary of Life

GREAT TRUTHS THAT LITTLE CHILDREN HAVE LEARNED:

1) No matter how hard you try, you can't baptize cats..
2) When your Mum is mad at your Dad, don't let her brush your hair.
3) If your sister hits you, don't hit her back. They always catch the second person.

7) Never hold a Dust-Buster and a cat at the same time.

9) Don't wear polka-dot underwear under white shorts.
10) The best place to be when you're sad is Grandpa's lap.

GREAT TRUTHS THAT ADULTS HAVE LEARNED:

1) Raising teenagers is like nailing jelly to a tree.

3) Families are like fudge...mostly sweet, with a few nuts
4) Today's mighty oak is just yesterday's nut that held its ground..
5) Laughing is good exercise. It's like jogging on the inside.
6) Middle age is when you choose your cereal for the fibre, not the toy.

GREAT TRUTHS ABOUT GROWING OLD

1) Growing old is mandatory; growing up is optional..
2) Forget the health food. I need all the preservatives I can get.
3) When you fall down, you wonder what else you can do while you're down there.
4) You're getting old when you get the same sensation from a rocking chair that you once got from a roller coaster.
5) It's frustrating when you know all the answers but nobody bothers to ask you the questions.
6) Time may be a great healer, but it's a lousy beautician
7) Wisdom comes with age, but sometimes age comes alone.

THE FOUR STAGES OF LIFE:

1) You believe in Santa Claus.
2) You don't believe in Santa Claus.

My rescued beloved baby...
Liz, this first bu'ds for you!!

I am here lurking.

Sounds like the trip was a big hit. I am enjoying all of your pictures, and the rose garden above has just caused major trouble. I will be stopping on the way home tomorrow at the nursery.

Sunday, DS Shane took me out for the day. I have not had the best few days, and he needed to run some errands, so off we went. Ended up at the flower shop where he bought me some plants...then took me to Panara bread for lunch. Oh was so good, and sweet of him. Still working on my garden, but it is not giving me the pleasure I wanted....but it will in time.

It really is so wonderful seeing all of your gardens and giving me great ideas.

Betty, please make sure you get your scan. Those are the symptoms I was having in Feb. when they later told me I had a TIA stroke. Now I have the BP problems and with horrible fluid.

Wishing we would hear from Barb, I keep checking back and forth between threads.

Debbie

We all fell fast in love with lil Millie I think Philis was exhaiusted retreiving her from everyone's purse or bag...

Debbie, been to your thread, my heart aches for you..did you find your contact? trip to the nursery helps bring some sunshine into your life...

OK

For anyone feeling down, I just had to post this...here I am, all others out for lunch and I'm laughing away, tears falling, just tooooo funny! Tubby, start reading....

PLEASE READ....
ONLY A MAN WOULD ATTEMPT THIS

Just try reading this without laughing till you cry!!! Pocket Tazer Stun Gun, a great gift for the wife. A guy who purchased his lovely wife a pocket Tazer for their anniversary submitted this:

Last weekend I saw something at Larry's Pistol & Pawn Shop that sparked my interest. The occasion was our 15th anniversary and I was looking for a little something extra for my wife Julie.. What I came across was a 100,000-volt, pocket/purse- sized tazer. The effects of the tazer were supposed to be short lived, with no long-term adverse affect on your assailant, allowing her adequate time to retreat to safety.....??

WAY TOO COOL! Long story short, I bought the device and brought it home. I loaded two AAA batteries in the darn thing and pushed the button. Nothing! I was disappointed. I learned, however, that if I pushed the button and pressed it against a metal surface at the same time; I'd get the blue arc of electricity darting back and forth between the prongs. AWESOME!!!

Unfortunately, I have yet to explain to Julie what that burn spot is on the face of her microwave. Okay, so I was home alone with this new toy, thinking to myself that it couldn't be all that bad with only two triple-A batteries, right? There I sat in my recliner, my cat Gracie looking on intently (trusting little soul) while I was reading the directions and thinking that I really needed to try this thing out on a flesh & blood moving target. I must admit I thought about zapping Gracie (for a fraction of a second) and thought better of it. She is such a sweet cat. But, if I was going to give this thing to my wife to protect herself against a mugger, I did want some assurance that it would work as advertised. Am I wrong?

So, there I sat in a pair of shorts and a tank top with my reading glasses perched delicately on the bridge of my nose, directions in one hand, and tazer in another. The directions said that a one-second burst would shock and disorient your assailant; a two-second burst was supposed to cause muscle spasms and a major loss of bodily control; a three-second burst would purportedly make your assailant flop on the ground like a fish out of water. Any burst longer than three seconds would be wasting the batteries. All the while I'm looking at this little device measuring about 5" long, less than 3/4 inch in circumference; pretty cute really and (loaded with two itsy, bitsy triple-A batteries) thinking to myself, 'no possible way!' What happened next is almost beyond description, but I'll do my best.. .?

I'm sitting there alone, Gracie looking on with her head cocked to one side as to say, 'don't do it dipstick,' reasoning that a one second burst from such a tiny little ole thing couldn't hurt all that bad. I decided to give myself a one second burst just for heck of it. I touched the prongs to my naked thigh, pushed the button, and . .

HOLY MOTHER OF GOD . . WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION . .

WHAT THE H+LL!!!

I'm pretty sure Jessie Ventura ran in through the side door, picked me up in the recliner, then body slammed us both on the carpet, over and over and over again. I vaguely recall waking up on my side in the fetal position, with tears in my eyes, body soaking wet, both nipples on fire, testi***s nowhere to be found, with my left arm tucked under my body in the oddest position, and tingling in my legs? The cat was making meowing sounds I had never heard before, clinging to a picture frame hanging above the fireplace, obviously in an attempt to avoid getting slammed by my body flopping all over the living room.

Note: If you ever feel compelled to 'mug' yourself with a tazer, one note of caution: there is no such thing as a one second burst when you zap yourself! You will not let go of that thing until it is dislodged from your hand by a violent thrashing about on the floor.. A three second burst would be considered conservative?

IT HURT LIKE H+LL!!!

A minute or so later (I can't be sure, as time was a relative thing at that point), I collected my wits (what little I had left), sat up and surveyed the landscape. My bent reading glasses were on the mantel of the fireplace. The recliner was upside down and about 8 feet or so from where it originally was. My triceps, right thigh and both nipples were still twitching. My face felt like it had been shot up with Novocain, and my bottom lip weighed 88 lbs. I had no control over the drooling.

Apparently I pooped on myself, but was too numb to know for sure and my sense of smell was gone. I saw a faint smoke cloud above my head which I believe came from my hair. I'm still looking for my n+ts and I'm offering a significant reward for their safe return!

P.S. My wife, can't stop laughing about my experience, loved the gift, and now regularly threatens me with it!
If you think education is difficult, try being stupid !!!

Did I offend anyone...hope not...off for lunch..

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

I don't usually post here... but I do lurk from time to time...

I've never laughed that hard... EVER....

OMG... that was funny.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Thank You B.J. - understand that your get together was the hit of the season..so sorry I wasn't able to be there..think I'd still be in the car...
I also found it funny..could picture any of our DH's doing this..lol

Are you now rested?

You know when you are addicted to nurseries when you are out in pouring rain, picking silver mound cedar tree's...omg, luckily there is room in the car for me...got 6..won't hide the neighbors today, but hopefully in a few years you will never know they are there..more to pick up tomorrow...lol

Lyndonville, NY

No no, not offended, loved it...but I napped. LOL

Victoria Harbour, ON

lol Debbie, do you mean it was so long in reading that you fell asleep..what's the weather in your area..probably much the same right?
Don't know why I teach painting Wednesday nights, all day I'm thinking I'd rather be resting...but then I wouldn't would I? Tomorrow night it's portrait class...another late night..

What are you all up to?

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

I could REALLY see Don doing that.... he loves gadgets, and I could just see him playing with it before giving it to me... and that very same thing would happen... guess that's why I can't stop laughing.

I'm getting rested up a little at a time... but I keep finding memories all over the house... just keep soaking in all the laughter that filled this house for the few days they were all here... we missed you, and all wished you'd have been here. Maybe next year? It's going to in Ohio next year... shorter drive for you.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Ohio is not far...within a day's driving for me...

I could see Roger doing same as well, remember when those bug battery operated swat units were out...he did something similar..not that much power though...but I COULD so easily see him thinking out how he could try it and do much the same...

How many BJ that visited you hadn't met before?

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Well... the only ones that came that I had met before were Deborah (Cordeledawg) and Cookie (Joycet)... met them at Kathy's in Alabama last Labor Day. And, I met Phyllis who lives not far from me.
The one's I hadn't met in person yet were Jaye, Judy, Marion, Kris, Stacey, and Janice,
All of them... every last one of them are a hoot... and very nice people.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

I'm just working working working with just a few breaks in between. lol I have an eye dr appt at 4 today, for a typical exam, it's been over 2 years since I've had one, and I'm going to ask for contacts this time too. My frames are 4 years old and showing mass wear, of course putting my knee in the middle of them a couple weeks ago didn't help either lol!

Victoria Harbour, ON

BJ, I've met Janice and Stacey and have spent time with Judy and Liz (Lizrainey) boy oh boy did I need energy...met a few other DG friends...amazing when you aren't amongst the general public meeting friends how you can be on the internet and become friends with the pick of the crop as I'd say...amazes me...

Crissy, seems everyone is having difficulties with their glasses...I've made appt. - think I'm badly in need of new glasses as well..too old to try contacts..glasses will do...

Darlene, my girlfriend called yesterday so say her mom had a stroke, didn't take long, she has appt. already for speech therapy..will have to give her a call when I get home..

Sure am hoping it stops raining for just 1/2 hr. so I can plant those trees..lol

Lyndonville, NY

Betty, the sun is out, and it is about 68, slight breeze. Kept saying rain today, but we haven't seen it yet. I had left the mop bucket out on the back step last night...it was full this morning from rain water. So we did get a good soaking. We are supposed to have more tonight and tomorrow.

I am in a bit of a funk. Trying to get over it, I hate it so much when this happens. My SIL & neice lost a very dear friend and it is hitting me. I only met her once but still bothering me. It is that time of year for me...the 1st anniversary issues. So that is keeping me up at nights. I just wish it would all go away.

I want to get out and work in the yard, but my energy is just not there. And seeing with "one eye" is not making it any better. As I said it is on order and should be in 7 to 10 days...but my "old" one is not very comfortable.

DH just got home from work...so need to get moving.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Hello Betty, I have read that one before, but with out the editing, and it is so funny. I tried to read it to dear hubby, but was laughing so hard, he had to come and read it himself!
Hope your feeling better, and let us know what the ct scan shows, if anything. We do worry about you!

Wonder how Mary is making out on her mother/son vacation..do hope she's having loads of laughs...won't be long she'll be back home...

My thought/prayers are with Barb...keep checking prayer thread but no news on Norm as of yet...

Debbie, heart goes out to you, even after all these years hearing of death even though I'm not close to the person still brings back all the memories...prayers that you sleep well tonight..sorry about the eye situation..a bummer for sure...

Linda Kay glad to see you post..you were MIA a few days..what were you up to????

Betty very funny I've felt the shock from dog collar..LOL

I found another use for the Bourbon..LOL

PAN GRAVY WITH BOURBON
I N G R E D I E N T S
• 2 oz. (4 tbsp.) unsalted butter
• 5 tbsp. all-purpose flour
• Turkey pan juices, strained and fat skimmed off the top
or by using a fat separator
• 3⁄4 cup white wine
• 1⁄3 cup bourbon
• 2 cups good quality turkey or chicken stock
(preferably homemade or Swanson’s brand)
• ½ tsp. kosher salt
• 1⁄4 tsp. ground black pepper

P R E PA R AT I O N
Cook time: 10 minutes
Serves: 12-14
Gravy: In a 2-quart saucepan over medium heat, melt butter. Add flour and cook, stirring for 2 minutes. Add turkey pan
juices, wine, bourbon and stock. Bring to a boil and reduce to 2 cups.
Add sage and season to taste with kosher salt and pepper. Reheat before ready to serve.
For kids:
• Omit the bourbon and sage for little diners.
For leftovers:
• Make a soup by adding stock and vegetables to leftover gravy. For a hearty sandwich, pour it over roast beef sandwiches.
Serve gravy for breakfast the next day with biscuits.
Simple substitutions:
• Use reduced beef stock in place of the turkey stock.

Two young boys walked into a pharmacy one day, picked out a box of tampons and proceeded to the checkout counter.
The man at the counter asked the older boy, "Son, how old are you?"
"Eight," the boy replied.
The man continued, "do you know what these are used for?"
The boy replied, "not exactly, but they aren't for me.

They're for him. He's my brother. He's four. We saw on TV that if you use these you would be able to swim and ride a bike. Right now, he can't do either."

Sorry to be so long in posting here Betty. I did just post on the prayer thread. Here's what I wrote.
My dearest friends, It's 7:30 pm now and I got home just a little while ago. It's been a really long day. They found two nodules. One the Dr said is benign and the other is in pathology. She did the least invasive surgery she could and still felt comfortable. If the second nodule comes back malignant she may need to operate again but for now she feels he is okay. He came through the surgery well. His best new friend right now is his pain pump. He does well though and only uses it when he truly needs it. I'll have a much better picture after I see him tomorrow when he isn't quite so drugged up. I thank all of you from the bottom of my heart for your thoughts and prayers. I really do believe in prayer and you have all been my strength this day.
Love to you all...Barb
My mind is mush right now. I know I wil comprehend more of what was said to me tomorrow. Thank heavens my son and daughter were with me today. Sometimes I don't understand doctorese completely and they will straighten me out if I have misunderstood anything. Off to try to sleep even though it's early. I'm wiped out!!!
