Best/ worse/ ? did you learn today? #105 visit with friends!

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

I forget how fast you all go. lol
I want to say to tubbytee, that it is the cutest thing I ever saw, &%^$###@*
Debbie, I am glad you made your memory garden larger, she was a big memory to fill, and a huge loss for you so I am glad you unshrunk it, though A for effort on his part. giggling inside.
Betty you do need to watch your bp, it is called the silent killer for some reason.
Nice to see some faces that are new to me here.
I will take some pix of the garden planter when it is a bit more filled in, but one is doing well. The other 2 are not ready. I need to add more stuff, but I may put pots in it meanwhile, once Greg puts the sprinkler in, (tomorrow I hope).
He is off and I am working. Just passed the 90 day probation yesterday and it is still fun to see the cool things that I see, but my company is all ready probably lost our contract with NASA, SO WE will see if I get picked up or not from a new company that may be taking over. We are not 100 % dead, though NASA, PROBABLY WISHES WE WERE.
The space shuttle may land Saturday here again, which will be my 2nd time since Aug.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Good morning everyone. Hope you all slept well!
Betty where are you at this morning? Your not MIA again are you?

Dawn, who do you work for, and what do you do? It sounds very interesting to see the shuttle land! I have only seen it on tv!

Tubby, thanks for the smiles! Too funny! Hope you don't mind, but I have copied them, and passed them on.

Hope you all have a wonderful Memorial Day week-end. And don't forget to thank the troops!

LK

Baton Rouge, LA

Good Morning All!

Hugs - Tubby.

Trisha - I'm proud of Laura - That's got to be tough! I haven't told you all this yet...I am so sad about it...but one of the reasons I'm taking off with DS17 on this crazy quick trip is to have a long talk with him. I think he is smoking.

I have some ideas planned out....on how to deal with this....

Hello Linda Kay! Yes - Dawn I am interested as well! Thank you to the troops....

Back in a bit...

Mary

Victoria Harbour, ON

Now let's try this again...lol

Won't try to write that novel again..

Here this morning but there was about 6 rescue units in the parking lot, not our building but for the building next door, everyone outside, not sure why..I was a good girl and did'nt go out to see what was happening, just sat looking out my office window at the view..my goodness there are good looking firemen..too young...but I can dream right?

LindaKay, are you going to B.J.'s this weekend..going to look up your location to see how close you are? or do you have family plans..

Judy, Stacey,Janice and Marion are now on their way..sounds like a lot of fun and I'm sure B.J. has put a lot of effort into preparations...

Dressed for a hot spring day but the weather isn't co-operating, nope it's breezy, cold and overcast..even a sprinkle of rain but they are calling for a warm weekend, well not the 80 of yesterday but around 65-70 so that's ok with me even though it will be overcast..lost I can do (as always)

Dawn, OMG 3 months already..this was the dream job you so wanted wasn't it...are you on contract? I'm sure the company taking over (if one is) that they will want to keept operations going with the least distraction i.e. changing staff..will pray that all goes well...how wonderful for you to see the landing of the space shuttle..your heart must be beating a mile a minute until it has safely landed...any photo's of the little ones?

I was at the trailer in Florida when the space shuttle exploded shortly after leaving the ground many years ago...was in awe of how in a flicker of a second so many lost their lives..not sure I would want to watch one again...

Dawn at least if you put potted flowers in the bed you could always bring them in and water them from inside with tub water when the water band is on..

We didn't have rain since last Saturday so last night after putting bags of top soil on 1/2 the area where snowplow keeps causing damage and seeded I watered all the gardens..this morning when I left home it was sprinkling, but not enough to even wet the ground...

I'm doing a test in this area, so funny, the t.v. commercial that is played almost hour to hour re Canada Green seed shows a cement slab where seed has been left and it grows without soil..great seed right..lol..so I decided I'd top soil 1/2 the area and seed, leave the other 1/2 with sand type soil and seed and see just how good this seed it..you'd almost think I'd have better things to do with my time wouldn't you..just want to challenge their commercial...

Fireman just came into the office to see if we had a white powder substance all over in our office...the closed the building next door and the office next to us, what they think, and is a prime example I think of children not having anything to do getting into mischief, who knows could also be an adult..what they think happened is someone took a fire extinguisher and through the mail slot fired white powder substance through the entire buildings...we were not affected, our slot if just off the step, low on the door so it would be difficult for them to do it... think of the $$$ spend on sending all the rescue units for better part of the morning...now their clean-up begins...

Trisha, my iris are just greenery right now..wild type, think they are orange and some purple..so pretty but the flower sure doesn't last long...glad you will have a nice weekend weather wise..

Just have to pick up 2 or 3 shrubs on my way home tonight, get them planted, shorten new curtains for dining room and really nothing else on my list..that's hard to believe..what I might do is pick up a gallon of red paint and do some magic on lawn furniture..

Stopped at Zellers yesterday (Kmart type store) and they had an outdoor table/chair set on sale, only problem is the chairs don't fold so have to think about that one..comes with umbrella, table, 6 chairs...

Shar, haven't seen you about of late, bet you are out in the garden enjoying the sunshine and roses...

Tubby, loved the posts...Art Linkletter sure had it right when he said 'kids say the damnest things!'

OMG you do have a lot of land .. you can feed the entire community with those gardens..but then you do don't you, you provide for the needy..what a generous couple you and Shirley are...

Both my Laura's, sending prayers out for you both..rough times but am sure they soon will be behind you...

Should take something out do do..still 4 hrs. left to my workday and nothing to do..

Victoria Harbour, ON

OH Mary, that's worrysome..perhaps he should talk with some youth his own age who are fatherless or motherless because of smoking/cancer..might make him see the light..

Please post the photo you d-mailed me if you get the chance so all can see what beautiful home and garden you have...

Enjoy you trip, am sure all will work out..

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning Betty. I am not going to BJ's this week-end. It is a 8 hour drive for me, but I have had a head cold all week, and did not want to contaminate everyone else! So it will be just hubby and I with a nice quiet week-end!
Hope you got some meds for your blood pressure, and are doing better?

LK

Victoria Harbour, ON

No meds, he said because I've never had high blood pressure it just may be a rarity and will wait for the tests to come back before deciding what plan of action to take..says I'm a lucky lady, 61 and don't take 1 pill..maybe that's why traditionally I'm a healthy soul..

It will be nice for you to spend time with DH..how's your dad doing, have you been speaking with him?

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Trisha's Laura, I'm pulling for you and DH. Hope you do it. One day at a time worked for me. Been 8 weeks now. Good luck

Baton Rouge, LA

Thats a good idea Betty. I'm kicking myself because my friend that just passed away....that was from Lung Cancer....

If I had only known....I'm sure Drew would have talked to DS. That would have been a wonderful opportunity....

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I speak to Dad several times a week, and he is doing fine. He loves the cooler weather, and they have deer come into the yard every day!
So they have some corn they feed them. He is very happy!
LK

Victoria Harbour, ON

I'm sure you'll come up with something that makes an impact on him Mary...

LindaKay, I'm sure he's thrilled to sit and watch Mother Nature at her best...sorry if I've forgotten, but is he mobile enough to take walks?

Pacifica, CA

afternoon all, busy cleaning up yard,

judy says hi she is boarding plane now headed for texas
will post tonight.

Baton Rouge, LA

Hey Liz!

Linda Kay - glad to hear about your Dad. I know it's a relief to you to know.

Betty - I do have a "Plan of Action". :)

Say a prayer for me that it works.

Hugs,
Mary

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Mary, you have all our prayers....

Baton Rouge, LA

Thank you Trisha!

Lyndonville, NY

I am suing McDonalds.

Went thru the drive up and DD had to have french fries & a McFlurry as school lunch was horrid and she was starving. I, however, am being good on my diet. But they were giving away "free" iced latte' coffee thingys....(technical term). So, I figured, why not I will try it. Do not take the free coffee thingy. My tongue curled up...and screamed....and I was forced to grab a french fry from my DD to cover the horrid taste in my mouth!

Did you ever go camping...and brew your own coffee on the fire....well, I think they did that...two days ago! And then, they put this non-fat milk, and this horrible attempt at caramel vanilla flavor in it. It was bad....but THREE MINUTES later....my stomach went "OMG!" I could not get home fast enough!

I have been taking tums, I am not having relief...but if they say a "free" Lattee....know it is because they can't sell them...they made them a week ago, and they are giving them away....so you can't sue them because your going to die!

I am sure that is the tactic.

I need to take a drama break...and go lay down with a pillow...possibly a blanket, and a nap.

Debbie

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

It is a relief to have him gone for a few months, but I miss him, and still worry about him. He can't walk more than a few steps, before he has to sit. He is real weak, and gets tired real easy! So he has a motorized scooter he loves, but that has it's limits too. He can't take it out when it is raining, because mud would ruin the motor, and he gets peaved when he gets stuck in the house on rainy days. But it is something he has to live with! My Bother says they are getting ready for the monsoon season, what ever that means. Lots of rain I presume? So they will have to find him something to keep him occupied.
You all have a great week-end.

Betty, you should have your package of fat quarters in 7 - 10 business days they say. It left here this morning. I had it in my truck for a few days now, and forgot about it, but it is on the way!

LK

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Debbie, they were giving them asway here a few months ago, and I have to agree! They are the most horrid anything I have tasted! I took on sip, and thought I was going to loose my breakfast I just ate!
Now I know some like iced coffees, but that was just nasty! More like 2 months old!

LK

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

I can't stand most fast food. but especially McD......just one more good reason to stay away from there! We have really good local coffee places here....local roasters etc.......so I don't have to suffer with things like McD, Starbucks!

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Sure hope you get to feeling better soon!!!

Baton Rouge, LA

LK - get him hooked on DG! I know these ladies would like another guy....Tubby wants some help teasing us from time to time.... :)

Debbie - You are hilarious! I've never tried one...so now I won't. The ones at Sonic are pretty good....

LK - I forgot where he is....but they are getting some torrential rainstorms in FL now....near Marion....I suppose she is safely off to TX.

I'm not worried at all....hoping they blow on through....I'll get rain tomorrow but hopefully the heavy ones will dissipate while I head that way....

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

He is Canon City, Colorado. It is spelled canon, but they pronounce it like canyon?

Baton Rouge, LA

I never realized they get heavy rains in CO....I guess I think of our tropical PM thunderstorms....but Like I told Betty - sometimes chatting with folks on here is like a geography lesson for me... :)

I'm almost done packing. I have enough to stay till Mid-June. LOL :)

Lyndonville, NY

Mary, refresh my memory...how long will you be gone....and will you have DG /computer access? LOL

Betty, how are you doing this after noon? Is everyone back in the office building?

You had me laughing so hard this morning, reading about you eyeing the firemen. I am reminded of bringing my Mom home after her eye surgery. She is yelling at me "slow down slow down" as we are going by a construction site. I thought something was wrong....NOOOOOO....she wanted to check out the good looking workers with her new eyes! She was never one to hold back a good look...then would say "I ain't dead yet!" LOL

Baton Rouge, LA

I'll be back Thursday. LOL! :)

Probably no DG access...so ya'll are going to miss me! LOL! That's why I'm pestering you all so much today I guess.....

Yes Betty - So how is Ray doing? Deb reminded me.....

Hmmm?

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Most definitely will miss you Mary....now who will I talk to late at night??

Baton Rouge, LA

I know! Maybe Sharran is lurking.... :)

Pacifica, CA

hi mary, have a safe trip.

and yaaaay judy landed safely in texas

Baton Rouge, LA

Hey Liz - Thanks a bunch!

Are they all visting someone from Betty's Blog? Or someone I don't know?

I wonder if Marion has landed safely yet...

back in a bit....doing laundry

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

They are all at BJ's in Texas.....from the Sweet Interruptions thread......you should come over there and talk with us Mary, it is a great group and new people are always welcome!

Baton Rouge, LA

Thanks Trisha - I always wondered what that thread was....

Maybe when I get back....

I'm on disboards quite a bit when this thread is quiet.

But I'll be on and off tonight as I finish up getting ready for the trip. I clipped some Parsley, Basil, Rosemary, and Oregano to bring to Dad....

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Have a great trip....

Thanks for reminding me, I need go snip a few Herbs....Sage and I decided we would have Omelets for dinner tonight! Just waiting for Bill to get home...and we are hungry!

Baton Rouge, LA

Trisha - I remember you had a vegetarian spaghetti recipe....do you have an eggplant parmesan recipe?

What herbs do you put in your omelets? I've never thought to try that...

I bet some fresh parsley would be delicious! Is Sage out of school yet? If so - what does she have planned for the summer?

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

I will have to go through my books for the eggplant recipe.....

Herbs....what ever is available.....tonight we are using the song......Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme!

Too many snow days this year...the kids don't get out of school until the 19th of June:( Haven't decided yet, we would like to get her into swimming lessons and maybe soccer camp.....and of course helping in the garden.....

Baton Rouge, LA

I remember that song. Sadly - we can't grow Sage and Thyme here...I had a Master Gardener tell me that after I asked her why I kept Killing Thyme in the Garden....

(I mean I really really killed a lot of thyme in the garden!). LOL......

When mine were that age and older....they always spent at least a week with some kind of camp or project. I see you do the same thing....

That's so great that she likes to help you in the garden...

I just told DH - we have a huge eggplant in the garden....I won't be here....he said it would still be good when I return.....I hope so... :) LOVE Eggplant Parmesan....but I've never made it...

DD1 and DD2 are going to Bio-Mom tomorrow....SUPPOSEDLY supervised by Nana - although she never does. It usually takes a while for them to get back to baseline when they return... but since they are older this year...I'm not NEAR as concerned as I was in the past.....

Hugs,
Mary

Lyndonville, NY

Mary, I hope you have a great time on your trip. Remember lots of pictures so we can live vicariously through your experience!

My DH got called into work at 7:30, and he took the stupid motorcycle. I hate when he rides it, but at night is even worse. He texted me at 11:07 that he is on the way home...now I must wait an hour for his long ride home.

Well, I am feeling very tired. Think I am going to lay in bed and wait to here the stupid motorcycle come in. LOL

Sweet dreams everyone,
Debbie

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Know how you feel Deb, the whole time DH and I were dating all he had was a motorcycle....the only nights he didn't call me were the nights he crashed the bike...my folks let us use the car a lot cause my mom hates motorcycles......

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Taters, do they call you tater salad?

I work for a contractor at NASA @ Edward's Air Force Base. I need to look at the NASA Web site to see if it is going to land here. They have to cover staff 24/7, when it lands, so it is a pain in the butt, but there is a lot of over time, for those who want it. Not me. I am too stressed out with the possible loss of our contract and the possibility of being out looking for a job again.

Every part of my body aches from all the stuff we are doing to save it, but in the end, I come home and start to water for an hour to 2 every night, it is just exhausting.

I would be scarred for life if I was there when the Challenger exploded. I never forgot my mom calling me in the early morning to say, "Dawn! Did you see, Did you see the tv"? Same with 911, Oklahoma City bombing and the little girl that fell in the well, the size of a coffee can. Oh ya, Los Angeles riots and OJ. I remember the feelings so well.

Snow Plows still Betty? OMG! How are you feeling?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all, it will be a gorgeous day to be out gardening and playing with projects out there...

Sitting here, coffee in hand, reading your posts..

Debbie, you had me laughing, you know us Canadians always just a little behind you all in the fast food industry, Suzanne and I went to Wendy's yesterday and they had similar, weren't giving them away, but know I know NOT to be ordering one...

Your mom is right, always nice to look at a handsome man..Roger always said, 'you can look but don't you do some touching'

Had a friend who used to go sit in the mall on Saturdays (she was lonely - lol) said she would spend hours 'crutch' watching..ok, it wasn't me I promise ..

As for Ray, guys he was just a man who was at same party that I had a few laughs with..actually, I can be entertaining..thank goodness I don't drink or watch out Victoria Harbor...

Mary, WE are going to miss you..Judy is on this thread, you know Stacey, she drops in as well..hope they all have an enjoyable holiday..sure they will...

Dawn, was just thinking of that..when all these events happened you would still be in the middle of the night...how horrible to all wake up to such news...as for 9/11 I was just getting ready to teach a painting class and we were having coffee and t.v. was on..no-one left the t.v. that day and I continued to watch for weeks...my son Jeff lost several friends who worked for American Express..same company that he and I were with..thanks goodness it was only days before he had flown in for meetings ..

No snow Dawn, today will be between 65-70 degrees..damage was done this winter when the plough pushes the snow, blade always grabs the turf, so each spring it has to be repaired..

Sounds as though Dawn they have to be ready for every possible senerio for landing..your job sounds so exciting....2hrs. of watering, lordy girl how big is the property you water...

Motorcycles, yuk..my son Greg loves them..when he was considering purchasing one just after Roger died I told him he'd have to move out, could worry about him each and every night not knowing when he'd return..he bought one anyway and home he stayed...when he was dating Melanie he sold it ...then a few years ago he got into his mind he wanted another..bought one, said it would be cheaper for travelling to work..beautiful bike but not practical when you have 2 boys..let's just hope he doesn't get any more ideas as to owning one...now Jeff, he has a dirt bike, big c'c's whatever that means..lol..thank goodness I never know when he's taking it out on the course...2 years ago he did some pretty major damage to shoulder/arm from a fall..

LindaKay that's fantastic, I'll be able to get shopping for yours..Think I'm going to stop these 'swaps' only because the mail delay and customs takes so long unless you want to mortgage your house to send them...I mailed an office size brown envelope with my 2009 quilt block in it to Janice and that's not that far away and up to Thursday she had not received it..that's well over 14 days...

Sitting here thinking, we mothers worry probably far too much..don't want him dirt biking, he's planning a 2 week kayak trip in July on his own, I think it's too dangerous..wish they were younger so I could say NO/NO/NO! That doesn't always work either does it...

Police officer came mid afternoon to take a police report as to the 'white dust' .. told her we were not affected so she moved on to the other buildings that were..nothing serious, just kids I assume, playing pranks but cost pranks they are...

Speaking of kids, I was in the garden center at Home Depot and the next door neighbor and her son and his girlfriend were there, I saw that she had turned her back to me when she noticed I was there...so I walked right up to her and started a conversation about flowers..no way she could ignore me...hey, at least I didn't call the police, I was nice enough to go and knock on their door...so all is well in the neighborhood!

Kyle got back from Ottawa school trip, said it was fantastic but didn't compare to Washington..so that was a compliment in itself...

Bought a Bridal Wreath shrub ($24.98-2 year warrantee) and 2 silver dogwoods for the back of the pond, need about 4 more to fill in the area....this morning I'll take a quick run over to Atlas Block just outside of town here to see about some cement walking stones for a pathway, pick up 2 bags of cement (just incase I decide to make some Rhubbarb leaves..put together the table I bought for the patio out back..didn't spend a lot of money of it because it's left out in the elements..glass top though..
lots to do if I want to do it...lol

Now that I've written a novel, had my coffee best get dressed so I can start my day..

Drop in on my next break...

Subject: Deer Hunting

Smile

Deer Hunting Camp

Four guys were at deer camp. They had to bunk two to a room. No one wanted to room with Daryl because he snored so badly. They decided it wasn't fair to make one of them stay with him the whole time, so they voted to take turns.

The first guy slept with Daryl and comes to breakfast the next morning with his hair a mess and his eyes all bloodshot. The other two said, 'Man, what happened to you?'

He said, 'Daryl snored so loudly, I just sat up and watched him all night.'

The next night it was the second guy's turn. In the morning, same thing--hair all standing up, eyes all bloodshot. The other two said, 'Man, what happened to you? You look awful!'

He said, 'Man, that Daryl shakes the roof. I sat up and watched him all night.'

The third night was Frank 's turn. Frank was a big burly ex-football player; a man's man. The next morning he came to breakfast bright eyed and bushy tailed. 'Good morning,' he said. The other two couldn't believe it! He looked rested and wide awake. They asked, 'Man, what happened?'

He said, 'Well, we got ready for bed. I went and tucked Daryl into bed, patted his butt and kissed him good night...Daryl sat up and watched me all night.
