but.. Big blue has a few neighbors .. hmm I must have thought, I wonder what this messina creeper and this moon vine would do with Big Blue? Here is the north porch corner may 21st.. pardon my ugly garden "fall off and break your ankle "clogs there...

The new neighbors.. , when the oriental stargazer lillies die down, they will be going up a mesh trail to the top of the porch for my look out and see beauty curtain.. here is the lavender moon vine

and the messina creeper right next to it and next to Big blue.. can't wait to see the competition going to happen between these three... I love a challenge!

I went to my sons' place to check on the mgs and other plants there I planted a week before.. no mgs yet, but lots of other things ... then last night when I went by to water, even tho it was dark, I could see them all.. all of thoe wonderful species mgs from all over the world, have sprung.. when it is time to go back during the day, I can take pictures.. but here the space is as of memorial day..My son firmly believes that his grandma will finally see his house when she goes to be with his grndpa tonight.. and she will see he is going to be okay.. he has realized his dream.. his home on a lake..

while I pulled weeds and planted seeds

I thought I would start out monday morning after the cemetary at my dear Paulines and Ppaulas place, clearing out the back south forty.. planted some mg tree seeds from lazlo, and some from emma, and some blue george straight for Paula, and some candy pink for Pauline, ended p having to hand pull out the brush and trim some trees.. before I could do anything else out there... pulled up the poison ivy, ( Mike was skeered of it) the big tree to the left kococked me five times .. I was surprised I wasn't out there on the ground the last time, it cracked my head so bad.. I felt it was punishing me for trimming it.. "take that you tree whacker!" I had it all done, right as the ambulance came.. the whole back part, trimmed, weeds pulled, seeds planted, I left a couple wild flowers tho..

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

The whole back part is all mine heh heh... evil grin.. those fences and tress will be covered in morning glories by end of summer.. Pic is the middle

and the little wild flower I thought was pretty.. and so did Pauline as she could see it from her bedroom window.. as well as the poppa cardinal out there..

I am sending it in to the KNPS.. here is a close up of it.. I love wild flowers..

Thumbnail by joeswife
(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

The kids think I am crazy, my hubby tolerates my addicition, Pauline was enthusiastic, but allergic, so I had to take alot of pictures, load them to my laptop, and take it to her to show her the blooms in my yard as they came ...first was charlies first bloom.. can u identify it? I can... it hurts to walk on in the summer if the don't get pulled.. but the flower is pretty..

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

First I had to show her the rose I planted for one of my daughters, Rose , under her bedroom window.. it is in full flush now, too bad Rose has moved out..

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

and I waited so many years for Great Aunt Effies' orchid iris to bloom... and bloom it did! Thanks Aunt Effie, I love you, give Grandma a hug for me! I didn't WANT to dig those up back then, too much work.. but .. I respect my Elders.. You guys taught me that, you and Grandma Sue, I hope my children learned from my example.. but we shall see.. I wish I would have done as you asked and dug up some of Grandmas' peonies.. *sigh*

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

they look so good back there.. with the double delight rose, the my angel face trellis rose, the monardas, the coneflowers, the carnations, the pink evening primrose, the Yarrow, the daiseys and salvia and all of that stuff.. it was cool that they were in full flush on memorial day.. I took a cutting to you both.. from the neighbors side behind me, they don't like my stuff anyways.. the yarrow was nice too..

Thumbnail by joeswife
(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

along with the evening primrose, when they are almost gone, the cones will be in full flush with the rest.. you taught me to keep continous blooms, Grandma, and I thank you for that lesson in Gardening.. now if I could just keep it in MY YARD on MY side of the fence.. that would be awesome..

Roses were your favorite, Pauline, weren't they? I planted them just for you..

Thumbnail by joeswife
(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I know this was your favorite here.. you loved the yellow ones.. you bought me this one three years ago.. thanks so very much.. incase I didn't tell you.. it is really loaded this year and so thick and lush..

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

You just loved this golden eagle..

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I put together a vase for you when you were sick last summer, remember? The roses were your favorite in that vase from my backyard.. there are three blooms on it this year, the rain and late hard freeze really damaged all of my roses, but you told me they would come back.. and I believed you..

Guess what? I have the beginning of poison Ivy on my right inside wrist.. oh well.. calamine will take very good care of me.. u warned me.. *sigh* U were always right.. anyway, MOM, look at this one! SOH! YAY! I can't wait to see if it is a solid throat... this one came from Joseph... Thanks, Joseph... in the winter I grew one out, it was from Luvsgarden(ronnie)

I am so sorry I am keeping you up.. all those nights I spent with you, tho, you kept me awake talking about your Gardening days ... so , mom, here is your payback.. look at this one! HA! and you said you doubted it would take.. You can't grow things from a stick you said.. well....this cestrum was astick.. HA! I planted some sticks at Karins' yesterday, MOM, I will takepictures.. the plumbago and the jasmine went nutz out side in the nursery, once they came out of the basement nursery garden.. do you know she had her two pampas grasses butted up against her foundation about 6 inches from each other? I dug them up, and dug out the area, degrassed it, and planted all of my mix and starts and things she wanted there.. oh, mom, it will be so pretty over at karins' house this summer.. I am so glad she asked me to help.. teach her to garden.. do you know she will be 38 this year? Hard to beleive she was only two when u first met her and took us in.. this stick of cestrum is your favorite colour, mom..

What a good time of the year for you to see from above, all the colours and sights and sounds, the wind making the flowers wave their scents about.. I bet you girls will have a ball, laffing at my mistakes down here..
But with your help, I will go on, making things bloom for us all... I scattered some morning glory seeds along the k15 highway, along the trees by the 63rd street exit.. I will pass by them all summer and you will see, it will improve that stretch of hiway, where people rush driving and yell and curse, maybe now they will slow down and look, and admire and take their time, to see the morning glories sublime..
look at beckys' colour pot I designed around the sugar cane I killed, sorry Tropicman, but DID you notice how fitting it is? the colour is yellow, and it is a thimble! Mom you made so many cute dresses for karin when she was small.. but I bet that Patty, Tropicmans wife, would want this thimble shaped pot back.. so I am going to surprise him this weekend, on saturday when he shows up at the swap.. he won't know what all is in it, good thing i wrote it down..Patty has been sewing quilts for her grandchildren all winter..

Look what I found , I forgot I planted it.. I am trying so hard to document and sort and keep things straight.. maybe when I can get some sleep, my memory and organizational skills will improve..on this we will have to wait, for blooms I am afraid.. I know it is by a brug, and some impatiens, I am pretty sure it is in the southwest barrell

Thumbnail by joeswife
(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

and look at this one, it will be grand! it will come tumbling down and fill my night outside with glorious scent and a beautiful bloom, and someday I will be posting those blooms, but right now I am learning patience, which they say is a virtue, but I know that when I pray for patience, God throws something my way, and another lesson he gives me.. all in his plan for the day.. Oh glorious blooms, they lift me so, but the waiting is still the best.. kind of like christmas or even like a childs birthday.. waiting and waitng away .. the wrapping is over , the paper is thrown , the gift has been discovered.. that is what growing is to me..

I have been trying so hard to cover, the fence to the south of me, the southeast fence to be direct, is a site disgusting to me.. I put up trellis and sticks and things, trimmed their trees and wired them around, and now my vines are starting to climb , and twirl and twist and wind.. don't they care what might be living out under that ten foot brush pile? or in the bags of trash and cans? At least they got rid of the three old mattresses against the fence.. but I still have two tires behind that mess.. and a tool box and who knows what else.. I saw a rodent run from their cats.. right into my yard out back.. so now the cats will jump the fence, I have to make a barrier, I string up floral wire zig zagged at the top pf the sticvks and trees, , and put sharp kabob sticks all over the flower beds.. I can't do anything else, I never see those people out.. but we ear them fighting in the night.. just seems the bags get higher, more junk seems to come about.. so here we are covering up this view.. with all these really nice things...
I hope they appreciate the fact, they get to share the beauty I of the plants I use...

To the north I can see, these new kids are going to be a joy.. she has had the hubby out, tilling and mowing and such. He has put in flowers, and even a pretty tree, if only they would plant some seeds up against that ugly wood fence.. so I scattered some morning glory seeds from behind it in the alley, they will climb and grow, and come spilling over that fence and make it look like blue and pink snow.. LOL.. I guess I better tell them that, good thing they know I am crazy..
I gave them some of my grow out plants, I saw them in their front flower bed.. now all they need are vines, to grow around that back porch and climb all over the top of it, since they have taken the green plastic roof off.. I could see it in my mind, sitting on that porch, completely surrounded in a little room, made of morning glories.. *sigh* Oh well my hubby? he hates all my pots and tubs, he just wants it all neat and perfect, all in the ground, away from his precious grass, and looking like better homes and garden I guess. Maybe if he would buy the stuff, we really need to do just that, and actually go out and build my planters and raised flower beds, the tubs might go away.. but I like things in pots and tubs, for I can move them about.. lets try it here or over there, for a look I might feel like creating.. I like change.. it helps me to learn to be flexible.. change is good for the soul...and thankgoodness.. I am like a reed in the wind, and bending with the flow of the blow.. where some are so solid, never changing their stand, much like an old oak tree, now that is like my man.. good thing.. he is always there, for when I have to bend and fall against him in stress, his solid never changing self, I know is always there, to catch me if the wind blows too hard... so I won't break in two..

I ate my first snap peas toight, while touring the backyard gardens, he bent to pickone to prove to me they were ready , and tore off a whole vine of flowering peas, instead of geting upset, and throwing a really big fit, ( like I have witnessed in times passed over a broken bean plant with a paw print right beside) I told him never mind and ate them right then and there, they were sweet and fresh and just right, even tho there were still blooms, he left part of the plant still in the ground, I stood chewing as he apologised, I just grinned and said yummy, don't worry, and glanced at the scizzors in my hand to have him snip them off with..he was so insistant that they were ready to be picked.. I explained that a plant breaks when something isn't ready.. a lesson learned, a sweet little snack all in a fallen moment, he was just so excited, that I was glad, for really it wasn't something I was expecting.. to come home after work and to get the news from him, of Pauline on her near death bed , for him to pull me out to my heaven, to help heal my mixed up blues.

So now he has given up, he knowing my comfort is writing, he has poured me the last of his favorite wine, and kissed me goodnite, as I promised to wake him when I get the call, he complimented me on my photos, as he stood over me from behind, I felt the solid Oak of a man, who grows weary from so much storm, he liked this photo really well so now I have to show it.. it takes a thousand snaps of the shutter , for one glorious moment..

My first hummer came yesterday, I missed it ofcourse, but hubby told me yes dear, I promise, they are back this year.

I planted all this stuff so that they would come, and now I have to find the time to sit in silence ready, to get a shot of one.... but in the meantime I keep looking , for things to see in surprise, and tonight I got to see that this almost was missed by me..

I planted alot of things from seed, tons and tons and tons.. so everyday , it seems in hours, things pop up alive.. scattered in this pot, that tub, and that planter, All I want is colour.. so mixed with morning glories, I planted things to cover..morning glories always sem to rise , way above whats below..I guess that is one reason why, I just love them so..

I went out last night, in between the hospital and work, just to hurry and water, I was going berzerk.. it was raining way up north, it always happens that way, he says don't worry honey, you don't have to water today, its gonna rain... yeal right.. it didn't so here we go, I give the gardens all a drink, even tho its' not time, and look what I found! another growing vine..there is a pure white thats for sure, but I also am pretty sure that there is another species there.. where did that marker go? ( I curse under my breath) as I scramble the water stream down the rest of the path..

I was so entranced by another ones posts of this beautiful cultivar, that I have them scattered about , here and there and far.. some by the fence..some by the door in a pot, some at Karins' and some at Paulines'.. will I ever stop?

Thumbnail by joeswife
(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

and then the one in the pot by the door step, ofcourse she will be moved, but I have to have her close for now, it might hail any any given time ... I hate it when it hails, it puts holes and breaks the branches, pounds down the struggling seedlings , and breaks off a forming bud.. here she is may 19th, she is much bigger now, she will be put into the ground ot and all, with a special trellis to climb.. excited I inspect her, every single time I can, for this one means alot to me, perfection , showy, spectacular and proud, this one looked to me, when I first saw her in another thread, I knew she was meant for me..

Thumbnail by joeswife
(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

More blooms I am going to post, not all morning glories ofcourse, it is too soon in my zone, so others Imust show..I sent alot of these things out, when they were so tiny and not much, but my salvia lady in red , is spectacular in every spot..

Thumbnail by joeswife
(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I sent some of these out to some of you also, they didn't look like much, but here mine are today, impatiens dazzler rose, I mixed them up in a pot of seeds, cosmos and something else, and prolly even more than that, a week will tell me most..
