Tropical Plants #40

palmbob, off the top of my head, I would not think your Euphorbia would be associated as a "tropical" plant. I hope someone else will chime in here for you though.

There are tropical deserts, coastal Ecuador is one.

Euphorbia are usually succulents aren't they? Succulents usually grow in places that have seasonal rains. Like California.

I'm putting in a new bed. I'm concerned with the Tri-colored Hau and the variegated Flax clashing. What do you think?

Thumbnail by jeri11

I think it looks nice.

Central, LA(Zone 8b)

Thank you!!! DonnaB gave me some Red Giant Turk's Caps a couple years ago that I would also like to work into that arrangement. Maybe to the right and left of the Ensentes. I have some Siam Rubies that I want to stick between the Ensentes and 3 Alocasia Sarians to 1/2 circle the bird bath. Is that too much?

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

I detect one of us has gotten her co-op order. I can never get enough variegated. Also got coleus from the other co-op. Can't go wrong however you put them together.

Central, LA(Zone 8b)

Hi Christy!!! Happy Memorial Day!!!! I got some but it will take the whole order for the picture to be complete! and some is stuff that I've had in pots for years!!!

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

Tropical gardens have to have a jungley, crowded look. No such thing as too many trops and no such thing as enough variegated plants.

Central, LA(Zone 8b)

LOL!!! I'll keep that in mine!!!!

Red Oak, TX

Lovely pictures everyone

Kimarj, very nice tropical combination. Leaving out the Tapioca was good advice, it will take off. This one was a 1gal. last spring.

cool looking pin stripe ginger. Anytime you want to divide, I'll make room for them. :)

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Me too.

Nery, where did you get your pin stripe? Growing slower than the var. zerumbet is a positive in my mind.

Look what I got today on the bargain rack at Lowe's for $4! The leaves were just a little burnt on the edge and it looked wilted, but blooming like crazy. They had two, I should have bought the other one too. May be I will go back tomorrow. It had about 4 stems in there, so I can divide them if needed.

Rj, I hope that you had a good extended weekend. I am sorry that I forgot to thank you for another Good Blog. I have to confess that I do not have a " forget about it area". I tend to kill my plants with kindness.

Rita's duranta got me thinking about something. Is there a ground cover variety or can you prune the regular hard enough to keep it very low?

I saw a plant I am fairly sure was duranta used heavily as a ground cover in Hawaii. It looked especially interesting when set off by purple hemigraphis.

Is this duranta or something else?
