Just look at that yummy dirt! Now we can expect even more pretty pics from Steve. :)
2009 Blooms II
Next to lily and peony delivery, the dirt and mulch deliveries come a close second. I just love piles and piles of dirt and mulch.
Wow Stevie, that is so beautiful!! More pictures please!! :)
Wow, so neat and tidy. My "Dave" model must be different than yours. Mine sure won't prepare the beds for me. You lucky dog!
Great photos, Steve! You're so nice and neat!
More beauty shot in Steve's yard. Can hardly wait for your OTs to come around. It all looks wonderful.
Wow Steve! What a great yard.
Love, love Steve's spring garden with all sorts of blooming beauties.
Yeah, Steve, how do we get one of those Dave models you have? Can we rent yours? :) LOL
No, no you guys...I signed up for Dave first. Lol!
Steve, that Orange Up is delish. I've added to my want list. Also, on your pic posted on 5/20 10:38, are all those pixies? they look nice, I need to study those, I have a perfect place for those little ones.
lily, that lily w/ the clematis is postcard quality.
here is Serrada with rosa Julia Child. I have 3 JC and planted several Serradas but roses are only 1 ft tall and bulbs just appearing. Next year....
Beautiful lilies everyone.
If you put the Orange Up and Bright Pixie lilies together you'd need blinders on. Those are both so bright and cheery.
LOL daltri, good point - the are a bright pair! I saw a pretty lily bloom from magnolia (Tracey) and wondered how she got one so early :-)
LilyLove (Kim), your peach lily looks just like my "Swansea" - do you have a name for yours? And the clematis are beautiful.
Thank you all for the nice words but I am afraid most of you keep neater and tidier gardens than I do - unless you also do what I do and just take strategic pictures! Pirl I have seen many of your beds pictured so I know you're a much more organized gardener!!
Vossner (Nery), those are about 2 ft tall and not really pixies. I think they might be "Pisa" or another smaller yellow. Thought they were "London" at first but all of my other Londons are much taller. I do like your rose and yellow lily combination.
Diann, I already told him he was in demand for making beds. Told him Moby's "Dave" model didn't do beds so she needed another one as well LOL. But Tracey I guess did get first dibbs ^_^
Here is "Surprise" - got it a couple years ago - it performed weakly last year and looks much more robust this year. I love the white contrasting doodads - stamens right Sue? I learned so much at the roundup :-)
Tracey, your lily Visaversa that oyu were so wonderful to give me is going in probably tomorrow. Still have to figure out exactly where I'll put it. I will find a spot in one of my front beds where I can show it off.
BTW I know you have some LO's - is that what this could be? It is starting to open and has a very strong fragrance. I didn't label these so not sure what they are. I did plant two white LO varieties however.
the lily king of ft worth!!!
Steve, you sure do have alot of those yellow London ones. But they are very pretty.
Yes I do Rita :-) I am not as varied in my lily tastes as you are, or magnolia - she has just one or two of any given variety and has many individual varieties, as so ilily and Ticker and Moby. I think I bought 50 bulbs from John Scheepers in fall '07. We had some hard freezes after the buds came up and many of them didn't flower at all that first year. Now they're coming back with a vengeance. I will get some cool new things this fall so I have a little more variety.
Stevie, I think you're going to make both Lily and Peony King without any problems!!! You and David should think about getting your own little wagon. I find mine comes in quite handy when weeding. I just toss the weeds and sod and whatever in the back of the wagon and then drive it to where I want it dumped!!
That Blue Ivory looks quite happy in its new home. :) There will be more down the road. :)
And I bet if I talk you into a wagon for David, I'd get first dibs on him instead of Tracey! :) Naner naner boo boo!! :) LOL
Diann
It could be an LO and they most often bloom nearly the same time as asiatics or even before them here. If you like fragrance and orientals don't perform well for you, in addition to the OTs, you should try some LOs. They will probably bloom before it gets too hot as well. I really love them for their fragrance and flower shape. Does it seem to be holding up well for you?
Where ever you place 'Visaversa', it will be perfect. It really has a unique color, which along with a nice fragrance is a great reason to adore it. Hope you love it as much as I do.
So happy that you didn't have it ^_^
'Surprise' is really nice. It's one I have thought about and with that picture, it will be one on "The List" (you know THE List, the one that grows with the season. Lol.)
Yes, with Daria loving Pixie Lilies there was no leaving the garden center without 'Bright Pixie'. She started collecting Pixie Lilies last year. I haven't told her yet that she is missing 'Crimson Pixie'. Somehow I think she will figure it out next time we are at the Flower Factory.
Lily King he is ;)
I like daylilies too voss but the constant deadheading is a pain - I feel like I have to go out and pinch off the spent flowers every day or they look ratty.
And don't forget Peony King!!
The strangest thing--my husband doesn't consider himself a gardener but he enjoys deadheading roses and DLs. I don't know why, and I don't question. I just let him go at it, lol. I remember Pirl saying she used to carry a bucket when deadheading a gazillion of them until she got sick of that routine. I don't have that many so we just let them fall where they may.
As far as having several of one kind, more and more I'm leaning towards that style because I think is more dramatic. I find that very appealing.
One of my neighbors has about 200 (maybe more) yellow DLs lining his driveway and it is so pretty.
Diann, I think you're right on the wagon - I just told him you had one and that we had to get one :-) I have that hosta and "Mouse Ears" in there as well - I am excited to see them all grow and develop.
Tracey, I am pleased to hear what you have to say about the LO's; I am pretty sure now that is what it must be as it is wayy too early to be a Casablanca which is what the bud resembles - and anyway I have a few Casablancas but they're not planted in that area. The Orientals (except Le Reve, which blooms fairly early) do struggle here because of the heat in light of the fact that they bloom so late, and suffer leaf and flower scorch.
Here is a bigger picture of the whole plant. I looked at my spreadsheet and I planted "Bright Brilliant" and "Long Island" for LO's.
I agree Nery - both styles are appealing but mass plantings of single colors really make an impact. The only problem is, when they're done they're done and then you wish you had something else to maintain bloom! I geuss mixing of two or three colors with staggered bloom times would ensure you had a long succession of bloom. I have lots of OT's mixed in with my Asiatics and LA's, so another wave of bloom will appear in June.
