You have to smile seeing sunflowers. The purple sure is wonderful with the yellow. I love the sage too, beside it.

Do you ever fry it in olive oil for a topping on dishes? WOW!

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

No Sally, have not tried that! Ya know it took me 10 years to find the tricolor sage, then I also found that lovely varigated one! I just love the plants!

South, TX

I use my herbs for the pizza's we make also. Basil is my favorite, I use sage, rosemary, etc. Tastes so fresh.

South, TX

I have an herb garden on the side of my home, but here is a big container with some also.

I have had it and I LOVE it! I am a sucker for variegation for sure!

Christchurch, New Zealand

I like that sage!
I have a purple & a pineapple sage - I dug out my common sage it was taking over.
I put a cutting into a pot, I like the idea of using herbs in my cooking but really seem to grow them for decoration mostly.

london England, United Kingdom

Neat herb planter Sally, all the herbs look really healthy and very attractive arranged like that. Thank you!
Is Pineapple sage varigated with yellow leaves? I think I have one of those.

Blossom, Great sprucing up! Your vase looks so bright and colourful, Thank you! The coleus boots and herbs make a lovely grouping with the flowers. Pot et fleur!

Dalfyre, I was growing my herbs for decoration, but since I've been trimming them, they grow so fast! I've been making mixed herb ice cubes, they are handy to pop into sauces etc when cooking. I've noticed the fresh/frozen herbs taste so much nicer than the dried mixed herbs from the supermarket I was using!

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

What a cool idea terri, icecube herbs!

Lets start a herb thread so we can stay to topic here and have a new one to chomp on with all of our ideas! Terri, you wave the magic want, your getting good at the links!

london England, United Kingdom

LoL, no I'm not! it usually takes me about 3 goes to get links to work!
A herb thread sounds good Blossom, I need to learn what to do with them too!
The ice cubes are easy make, I don't have alot of space for drying!

Got to go out now, see you later!

Thank you 2gmk, wow! that is very nice of you to say. I am growing Amaranthus for the first time, but am finding it's not very easy to make arrangements with!! Have you got any flowers to stick in a vase and share with us?
Thanks for stopping by, all the way from Kansas City!

Sacramento, CA(Zone 9a)

Terri - when you get the chance, can you give us a quick rundown on how you make your herb ice cubes? I grow some herbs, but never get around to using them.

South, TX

Hi Terri and Blossom, I am working with off white, red and pale sage green foliage. Found the neatest flowers at Hobby Lobby, I think I bought all of them in two stores. The arrangements are going to be informal cottage type. Will probably be able to send pics next week

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

2gmk, those colors are stunning!! Common down to that thread above and chat bridal!!

Artificial flowers are more expensive than fresh ones's here! What flowers have you got?
Here's my artificial Hibiscus! wish I had a real one! ..lol

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

You do terri a rose of sharon hibiscus! You do know that thing will get huge?

london England, United Kingdom

Yes I do Candee!! I've had it for years and it's not all that ... lol Will it get huge? maybe I should move it from my island bed? another job for the autumn perhaps!!!
Have you got a vase of flowers for me? lol ............................runs out the door................ tee hee!

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

Well I have the double one and it is now about 15-16' perhaps even more and almost as big around.
No vase of flowers today sorry, still at work.

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

Awww, just keep the derned thing pruned back and that will keep it small! LOL! I have a rose of sharon that is only 4 feet. It gets a whacking every fall. I refuse to move it and it can die there.

london England, United Kingdom

I haven't needed to prune mine yet!
Blossom have you seen the scary couple?

Candee put them on the compost heap! lol.

how about two vases...
one with witch hazel - sadly non fragrant.
The other is sweetly scented Tazetta narcissus.
I didn't realise how nice they smelled until I put them inside.
These are the ones I dug huge clumps out & gave away or binned the bulbs.
Glad I left some.

Noid iris & witch hazel.

Hi dalfyre, they are lovely, what a nice surprise! I'm glad you saved some of those pretty Tazetta too. I see you have a frog!!!!! lol. Beautiful arrangement with the Iris and wich hazel, it's unusual to see them cut short, I like it very much!
Thank you.

Christchurch, New Zealand

those were the bits I trimmed off the longer branches...
couldn't stand to see them go to waste.
Initially I just had them alone but thought the blue of the iris might be nice with the orange witch hazel.

Thumbnail by dalfyre

It is lovely alone too! I haven't really seen many arrangements with witch hazel, it's such an interesting plant. I want one!!l
It really looks great with the iris, the colours and shapes complement each other so well. Funny how sometimes our waste bits turn out to be the star!

Christchurch, New Zealand

I saw a lovely yellow witch hazel for sale yesterday - only $33.50...
but it is a fragrant one & really pretty.
I have a winter hazel that has yellow flowers so I will have to watch & see if it will be any good for cutting, I think it may be too small & sparse at the moment.
