Rednyr: TY. Most of the photos were taken last weekend at the house in Asheville, which I love. The gardens were just getting to be rewarding for me when I left last year to return to Kannapolis. The DLs and calla lily are blooming here in Kannapolis. Most of the gardens here now have to be redone, a monumental task, as we have a large yard and I'm no spring chicken anymore.

Your plants all look so healthy and prosperous. Is that a hardy begonia I spy in the photo with the EE?

How pretty, BSD. I haven't done many pots this year.

I went out this morning to check on some seedlings in my little greenhouse and lo n behold there was a hummingbird who had flown in and couldn't figure it's way out - I had to use the video portion on the digitial camera in order to get it on record....too fast for my HP digital...or perhaps without coffee I was too slow...hmmmm

Just when I thought they weren't coming to the yard, now I bet he's scared for good and won't come back LOL

I'd love to see it .. If you don't have a website you can upload it to, send it to me and I'll stick it on my website with a link.

Very pretty flowers, y'all... I'm envious :)

Here's one last picture from May, taken just minutes ago. Caesalpinia gilliesii, with only the back deck light for illumination (no flash). I think the contrast with the stamens is kinda cool.

That is beautiful!

The reason for the blue shift on the picture is because it was taken in the greenhouse and the polycarbonate walls act as a filter.

NOID Double orange hibiscus. Wish it was hardy!

Jacquemontia pringlei morning glory. I'm growing this one out for Ron over in Morning Glory forum. The interesting thing about this one is that last year it was basically all white. Ron was expecting some purple in the flowers. At one year old the purple showed up.

Questions???

Anyone know the name of this? Wife brought a few of these home one day.

Next question is, how on earth did I end up with hydrangeas that bloom three different colors in three different spots in my yard???

This one is under a few pines trees. Red???

Mop head that was white when I received it. It's decided to be purple this year.

Could that be agapanthus?

It looks like agapanthus to me, and they are gorgeous! I have a couple planted here, one in Asheville and it's a keeper!

CoreHH: Hydrangeas react to the acidity or alkalinity of the soil they're planted in and that determines what color they will be.

X I believe you are right on the ID. Agapanthus.

Yes Hemo I know the PH makes the color but I have tested the PH levels around my yard and it's usually around 5.6-5.7 which should yield blue flowers. The red flowers are in a place that should be more acidic then the rest of the yard. In fact there are no red hydrangeas in my neighborhood, not a one. They are all blue with an occasional one that is purple.

End result I like the red ones since people will be trying to figure out how I got them to turn red. LOL> In fact I have a nice mix going on so it will probably look like I turned them all to what ever color I wanted to. LOL, I'm a show off by default.
