Becky's MGs Part 2

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

gardenpom - LOL! You are probably right. I find that if I winter sow them, that they come up in March for me and do quite well. This year I planted my poppies late (due to my Mother's passing), and I didn't get quite as many as I did last year. I am learning how to grow Poppies here ...

A - I LOVE those fishy pots! Too cute! I hope you get your pond this year! I love mine. I have to have my water plants! Especially my waterlilies ...

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

A, I've been trying since Monday to start a few more glories, including the lovely Fuji no Monet you kindly shared with me. I also want to start the species m glory you sent.
My daughter and g kids have come to live with me and my time is no longer my own
but I will get them all started.
Love your fishy planters.

wonderful pictures and flowers and things. lovely thoughts were in abundance it seems...

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Thank you, folks!

Debra - "Lovely thoughts" were probably ramblings of an insane mind ... LOL! There is no such thing as sanity. Trust me. Those were the thoughts dancing through my head as I was posting pics. Don't really know where they came from. Just pulled them outta thin air. LOL! But I was feeling whimsical today and it showed. LOL! Probably more like giddy because of all the colorful blooms... or maybe intoxicated by the sheer beauty of it all! Either way ... I was happy! It was a good day. That's my story and I am sticking to it! LOL!

Now could someone please send some rain my way! We are baking here in Florida! My grass is crunchy. Ugh!

South Venice, FL(Zone 9b)

A - fabulous blooms and hummers! Thanks for sharing.

fernman23 - GORGEOUS IRIS!!!!!

Becky - nope, no greenhouse for me (yet). I start seeds and bulbs under lights in the house. And in south facing windows. And on my dining room table. And...well, you get the picture. The house is bursting with plants right now - hope to be able to start moving them outdoors in a couple of weeks. It's sort of spring here now, but too cool at night for tender stuff to be outside. When I do put plants out, I end up putting them in the garage over night, then putting them outside for the day, then back in the garage for the night and so on and so on.

Jackie, I know what you mean about time not being your own, it will be that way for me next week, having classes at my house again and no time for anything after this week.

Thanks Jo, I feel for you having to put plants in and out, I still have several plumeria inside my living room.. I think I'll mail them off in pieces to Becky..lol It gets to be a bit too much. Although I did get them to over five feet tall so far.

Becky, thanks, my fishie pots, I am wanting a small pond, but don't have pond plants..lol, I think I have a water iris though.. so I'm good to go, I'm debating whether to get any fish though. I did get the pumps and even a floating solar water light that lights up and uses the energy to blow water up the spout.

Becky you can have some of my rain.. yuk.. Great iris shot there darren.. I love reading your musings, Becky, you remind me of someone I know.. ;D

fernman, I like your Iris also, what type is it? Mine are starting to finally bloom after a couple of years...

joeswife, is that a mini-pond, I love it.. do you guys ever trade pond plants? I've got a sphere I made and want to put some pond plants in it, but am not sure how to go about it. I won't be home till tonight and will post a photo of it, maybe you guys can give me some advice.

Mesilla Park, NM

Becky,
I hope you don't mind me posting this pond to be, I used the small exercise ball and plan to make the large one, this one has been outside curing for almost a year and it sits on a stand outside, it is all white and white stand, sun bleached too. It is ready for water and plants.. I'll get a photo of it outside, I couldn't find one on this puter.

Thumbnail by Gourd

the best part about the pond/water feature is the wildlife (here, the hummers) that use it for water~completely ignoring the hummingbird feature I finally broke down and bought~I have always been against them anyway, and the hummers just drink H20 from my water tube that drains from the swamp cooler! Gourd, the Iris is Peruvian, I have acually been looking for the name of it since It started blooming, it has another single today taking the total to five on the one leaf so far this year. I am amazed, never seen anything bloom so prolificly besides MGs!!! I will Dmail the name when I find it, or, where i ordered it from~Becky~where are todays Bloooms? ; )
:Darren

Gourd it was easier than I thought, it was in my online journal heres the link to DGs info:

Thanks Karen and Darren..

I took this awhile ago, I put a rose in it to float so you can see how it would look with some plants..

Here it is without water and near the chairs so you can see the size it is.. I can hardly wait to make the large ball. It has been curing outside about 1 year, it is ready for plants and a fish if I want one.

RAD!! the things that can come spilling outta that are endless!

Antoinette - Your water garden container is radical! Such a unique design. Curing outside for a year? Does that help leech out the concrete chemicals? I know if the concrete hasn't been aged properly and you add plants and fish ... they will die. I, personally, would paint it with some kind of water proofing paint that is non-toxic to plants and fish.

Debra - I love those wine barrels! Really nice! :-)

Darren - I agree ... I could see some draping vines hanging outta that water container. In fact, I have seen folks tip their pots on their sides to grow plants that way. It looks pretty cool!

I've been taking photos every morning, but just haven't had the time to post them. Many of my outdoor vines have been blooming. Hopefully, some new ones tomorrow or later this week. :-)

Here is China Doll that I got seeds from Helena. Beautiful! Thank you, Helena!

love those pink blooms, becky/ so the aquatica stays in mud more or less? I was going to put it in the beach at waters edge..

Love your portable pond A.

Great blooms Becky.

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Debra - I don't believe that I. Aquatica would do well in salt water. Mine has roots submerged under fresh water.

Thanks for the nice compliments on my bloom photos!

More blooms to wake up to today...

This was supposed to be Light Sazanami, but instead it looks like Purple Blizzard. Might have been a stray volunteer from last season. Still very pretty!

This single Clematis vine just seems to bloom non-stop. Interesting enough, the blooms get bigger each passing day. So pretty! I am so impressed with this cultivar of Clematis!

This is a basket with several Florida Sweetheart Caladiums in it. I wonder what kind of vine would look good hanging out of this basket to compliment the Caladiums?

very nice! I like all your pretties..
Becky, I wish we had salt water here.. that would mean I was by an ocean.. *sigh* however the beach area I referr to is what we in kansas call a "Sand Pit"" LOL it was a really nice commuinty of mobile homes around this man made lake, and for years I used to go frolic in the water, and float around with a coctail in hand.. 8 years ago, a huge tornadoe totaled out that community.. wiped it clean, and now it is a barren area, with new homes sprinkled about.. my son being one of those new home owners.. he texted me that he got a sunburn fishing today while catching catfish and bass.. I will probably start decorating and creating his oasis this weekend.. a nice clean pallette to paint on! ( with flowers and plants and stuff) I love those clematis.. there is a lady down the street her blooms are pale lavender the size of dinner plates.. I envy those.. my clematis went with the tree last year. Those caladiums are so exqusite.. I would put a brilliant green or a dark burgandy with them if I had them..

Debra - LOL! I thought your son lived near the ocean. I didn't know it was a man-made lake. I usually call that lake side, not the beach. But that is how we Floridians segregate the beach and the lakes here in Florida, since we do have both. LOL! Well, in that case it should grow quite well! :-) I wanna see photos if it does!!!

Thanks for the suggestion about using dark green or dark burgandy in my Caladium basket. Ironically, I thought I had room in the basket to add something else. Instead I am seeing more Florida Sweethearts poking their heads through the soil. So now I don't know if I will actually have room for any other plants. :-S

Cute little bird!! What is it? Looks almost like a Bluejay or Scrub jay. I love my birdies... and squirrels. I'm off today to take care of some estate business, so am enjoying my morning at home. I need more days off! LOL!

Here is an interesting cross from Antoinette. This was labeled Aogakiyama x Chocolate Silk. A - Did you get the Aogakiyama seeds from Beth? If not, just wondering because I thought the blooms were going to be more light blue. (The camera doesn't convey the color correctly. It is more of a deep purple, not blue! I hate this color misrepresentation in a camera. Too broke to get a better camera ...) LOL! Love the white streak in there and the long flag. Can't wait to see what future blooms look like. I know this sounds odd, but these rich colored, large blooms are some of my favorites. I like blooms with subtle hints of a cross or patterns.

This is the Yellow Chinese Evening Glory. I hadn't paid much attention to this one lately and was quite surprised to see the growth. It is apparently a climber, too.

Here is the Alamo vine. I need to transplant this one into a bigger pot, ASAP. I love the look of the leaves on this one!

This one is a seed from Martin. It was labeled "German Mix of I. nils". Though the heart-shaped leaves look like an I. purpurea. I am interested to see the blooms on this baby! Thanks Martin!
