Garden pics " I spied with my camera's eye....." #3
Hey RJ, I hope you don't mind the name change. I just had a thought of maybe changing the title as the season progresses.... if the thread keeps going that long. I'd love more ideas for any future ones!
I just notice this the other day and was really surprised to find it over in the dogs' pen. It does cheer it up a bit there. But, I'm thinking that I might really enjoy it more if it were in one of the flower beds.
red. I think the picture above captures the true color of the Anenome when it is fully open. It is darker when the budding begins.
Love the picture of the flower in the dog area. Perhaps they are taking up gardening and want their area to be as pretty as the rest of your garden. Now if you get them to help with weeding that would be perfect! LOL! I wonder how they hold tiny seeds with their paws?
"eye" see you!
Gaak! Boy can you get behind when you are gone for a few days! Went back east to pick up my Mom (she had stayed at her vacation house to have some windows replaced) and dragged Lynn along with me this time. We had a glorious "girls day out" playing in the garden, walking through the neighborhoods to see what was growing/blooming, and yes Susy, picking tons and tons of lilacs to scent the car on the way home!
Redchic, I don't have a lot of before pics of our eastern gardens. The first couple of years we had minimal time to spend there, and most of that was spent trying to reclaim the yard (it had been untended for at least a year before we bought) and fishing. Of course I will have tons of after pics, as the gardens are finally under control and we spend more time enjoying than we do working! I don't mind at all the name change of the thread....it is a fun idea to change as the season progresses, but I am thinking that it's going to take a lot of brain power as I have the feeling when the world starts to really come into bloom, you will be changing threads quite frequently! Love your rain pics! Is that your view? It is gorgeous...even with the stormy weather!
Willow, Your gardens are certainly starting to show off their spring color! I can't wait to see Mindy's Love in her full glory! I also really like the planting with the red camelia and the shrubs below it (yes I grow them, and have had a brain fade and can't remember for the life of me what they are called!). It is a beautiful combination!
Beahive, your tulips and spring flowers made me drool as always! I espeically love Menton. I have seen it in bloom several times at VanLierops and have been very tempted to add it to my garden. Has it come back well for you? Your Big Mama certainly does seem like she is getting used to having her picture taken! Will be curious to see how much of a ham she turns into by the end of the season! Oh, and I think that your little yellow kid is a variety of wallflower. Love the pastel yellow color!
This is one of my favorite geraniums that made it's migration to the deck just before I left.
Julie, ADORABLE. Love the color!
Irwells, beautiful roses!
Irwells, What a gorgeous rose! And so healthy! Sigh...thanks for giving us a rose fix while we are still looking at new growth only!
Jan, thanks! I have always wanted a chocolate lab because I love the coloring, and I think that my baby's color is close to that so am thrilled!
Thanks. It's actually 5 roses, and I think serendipity played a part in the choices.
Rj..... That puppy is sooooo cute! Well, I would love to see what before pictures you do have. It's a beautiful place. Pretty pics!
Bea. Thanks! Yeah, I agree. I'm not sure if the plant wanted to escape, or if the dogs took up gardening! lol
Irwells..... Yep, from anywhere! Glad that you're here and I hope that you stick around!! I think it great to see and hear of everyones gardening experiences, it's more for all of us to learn from. Great Rose!!! I agree with RJ, It's nice to get a 'rose fix' since ours still have a while to go.
I was in Port Orchard last summer, and got some great perennial ideas from husband's cousin. We'll see what survives and thrives here. 7b in WA is NOT 7b in Texas!
Welcome Irwells. Your roses are beautiful. My DH grew up in Port Orchard and all his kids live there.
That's true! The upside Is that not many (yes there are a few) plants are strictly zone 7b, they're usually a little hardier. Now.... so long as they can take the heat..... !!! ??? Hopefully you didn't get a bunch of Meconopsis or something like that! lol. However, I bet you can get your Salvias to overwinter much better than I can?!?

Irwells.... What kind of a climbing rose is that? I really like how it behaves. I'm not usually that fond of climbing roses because some kinds of them seem to get a little unruly. That one doesn't appear to. Very nice!
I don't really think it's a climber, what's planted left to right is:
Louise Odier (because I couldn't resist that Bourbon fragrance,) Weeping China Doll, Brilliant Pink Iceberg, Weeping China Doll, and another Louise Odier.
I had already picked out all of my rose purchases at Chamblees and was hauling them to checkout when I passed by Brilliant Pink Iceberg and couldn't resist it. Once I got it home, didn't really have a good place to put it, so stuck it in the middle of the gates (left over from a remodeling project at the office.) Once this flush is over, it's mostly BPI that blooms, and it blooms all summer. It has canes 8' high, so a probably good thing I didn't put it anywhere else. Knock on wood, I haven't had any trouble with black spot even though this is so close to the wall. Had aphids for the first time this year, but used Bayer on it and they're history.
I was a little reluctant to plant roses on the patio, because we use it a lot, and you can see it from our breakfast room, but the only time it looks a little unattractive is after Christmas until Mid-March, and since we're accountants, we're never home then before dark anyway!
Here's Brilliant Pink Iceberg
LOL.... there's a plant with a Bourbon fragrance!!!! that's so cool! I might have to save up some and get one! I wonder how well that would go, fragrance wise, with my clematis that smells like chocolate? I think that they'd do great together!! It sounds as if you did a really good job of spreading out the bloom times so that it always has something going on. Nice work!
Yep, you've sold me on the Louise Odier! lol lovely pics too!!
Time out - doesn't smell like bourbon, LOL. It's a bourbon rose, and they all smell similar. Not sure how to describe it, though. And anything goes with chocolate! What clematis smells like chocolate, I don't have one that does. As a matter of fact, I don't think any of my clematis smell much of anything!
oh.... ok. I got it now! Da**, I was really excited about a rose that smelled like bourbon! I can't even drink the stuff. I know the smell of bourbon roses, don't know why I didn't make that translation instead. Not enough coffee I guess!!
The clematis that smells like chocolate is Clematis montana 'Wilsonii'. Most of the clematis montanas are fragrant. Generally the fragrance is sort of like cross between vanilla and white chocolate, and it's light. but, it's always there!! 'Wilsonii's' fragrance is definitely like a true dark chocolate and stronger than the others. When it's in full bloom, i can smell it at least 50' from the plant. Although, it is a decent size plant now, but still.... that's pretty good!
Boy oh boy. Jusr be gone a week without internet and see how long it will take to get caught up with DG!!!!! I'm not sure I ever will. Iam also on the birdwatching threads and that group loves picture taking too!
As Julie said, we took a girl's day off with Lynn to the vacation house in EWA. Julie upstaged me with the pics of the lilacs but I will get even. Here are Julie and Lynn wrapping up the lilacs and Rose of Sharon they dug for Lynn.
Irwells, it is great to have you share your pictures to give us a preview of things to come. I have a long time gardening friend in Minnesota that I would love to get to join here. That is a totally different, but often the same, world of gardening too. We get the head start over them but then around iris season we get pretty much on a similar schedule.
Fantastic! The azaleas here are still a week or two down the road.
Picked this large bunch of tulips, daffs and iris to use on the tables for my daughters Prom dinner tonight. She and a group of 17 friends are having a "fancy" dinner at one of the parents home. I making the green beans! Sure wish it was summer and I could have had some home grown. The store ones are not the best!
Pic taken before I solved the flash problem with my camera. I was getting so frustrated reading through the terrible manual and then online. I finally found a customer service number. I felt really stupid when they explained how to set the flash. It is so easy!!
I am ready for anything now!

Beautiful! Wish we could grow tulips as anything but an annual here.
I don't like ANYTHING enough to dig them up each year!
Beautiful centerpiece!!
LOL, Irwells, about not digging stuff up.
