Kaitlin & James.. off to the Prom! She and her sister are my two special flowers. Thanks goodness the rain stopped so I could get a few pictures. She recieved a really nice wrist corsage and I think they used Lavaglut roses in it!! My favorite red rose. Very pretty!
Garden pics " I spied with my camera's eye....." #3
Cute couple. Love the red.
Beautiful azaleas. Your yard looks more like the PNW than I would think Texas looks like. Neat!
Love the purple rhody and the frog pot.
Willow, hair as well as dress and vest? What a nice picture. Your "rose's" dress is lovely , Bea. Glad the sun shone there. We are having MORE rain today. Just great as the catch up from the trip to EWA was to be mowing lawns today. More like hayfields right now. And to think, a couple of weeks ago I seriously considered weed n feed!.
maury.. handsome son! They did a pretty good job picking a red that did not clash with the dress and his red hair!! LOL.. Lots of red tonight! She ended up not wearing the high heals we bought. They were 4" heals and she said they were not comfortable. I did mention that when we purchased them... will they ever listen. Under that dress she has red shoes that do not match, but at least she will be comfortable. If it were me, I would wear my crocks! They come in all colors now! LOL!
Yep, I hear you on the crocks Bea! That would be me too. Wow, that's impressive that they were able to find a red that didn't clash with his hair. I've never found a red yet that I thought went ok with either my red hair or didn't make me look sickly pale! What a cute match that they make. Nice tulips!
Great pic of your son Mauryhill!
Irwells.....I love all the azaleas. You did a great job of making all the colors go together! I'm looking forward to seeing more. Yep.... lots of both rhodies And Azaleas here! Lots.
PNWMG.... your place is coming along great. That little statue thing is really cute! great picture of Julie and Lynn. Looks as though you all had a lot of work to do.
He seems like a nice boy. It was cute how he asked her to prom.
With a teachers help, he made the last question on her English exam "Will you go to the prom with James" . It was cute. It was
typed in as question # 21 of 20. Very creative I thought!
When I was pregnant with my first daughter, I had a recurring dream that she was born looking like Pippy Long Stockings..freckles and the long red pig tails. I think because of her fathers Irish (blond) background and my dark french background everyone was telling me our childen could be red heads. She got a few freckles but light brown hair! I love red hair..but Pippy was kinda scarry in my dreams!
Yep I agree. That would be a scary dream! lol. That's the sweetest thing about how he asked her to the prom. He Must be a great guy to be that thoughtful and creative! Cute picture. lol
That's the second story I've heard this year about cute ways a boy asked a girl to the prom. My neighbor's son enlisted the aid of the vice principal and had his prospective date called to the office. I don't remember anybody being that creative when I was in highschool.
The kids look so handsome. What a nice looking pair. There is a big, open park-like setting in front of Flower World up here and when I was leaving there late this afternoon I saw a bunch of prom kids all wandering around there socializing and getting their photos taken. They were so young and so old at the same time.
Holly - I can't believe (and yet I can) how much your son has grown in the last year. How tall is he now?
Just got back from the Oregon garden. Parents of the Prom court were invited to take pictures of the crowning of the queen & king. Well I think I will keep my picture taking to outside. Not many of the pics came out well of the dance. Geeeze the music was noisy!! Each kid on the court gave a short word of thanks to their parents. My daughter thanked me for raising her on my own for my love & support and for her good looks! She is such a ham!!
Here they are giving their speech. James was crowned King and Kaitlins best friend queen. (She did not want to be queen..she thinks the whole thing is silly!)

Cercidiphyllum Japonicum Pendulum. However, if the leaves get much larger.... Cercidiphyllum Magnificum Pendulum! Definitely a nice speciman of it!!
That's so nice that it all went well for them and that they had a good time. It sounds as if they are both great kids
red..so glad you know the names of plants & tree. I was way off
on this one! Hey it was dark. Either way it was gorgeous!
Thanks
Irwells, I love your frog! Nice azaleas too! I could easily believe that your stunning garden was somewhere around here from looking at the pictures. Never imagined Texas as an azalea garden type of place...that's one of the funnest things about DG is the broadening of experiences/knowledge through the gardens of others! Glad to have you with us!
Nice pics Mom (PNWMountaingirl)...except for the LOVELY one of Lynn and I....grumble....that's why I don't have any pics of me in the garden! You will have to get a close up of Blaney's Blue today if the weather permits!
Beahive, What a beautiful young woman your daughter is! Love the prom pics...looks like she is having a great time! I agree with Kathy, I don't remember ANY of the guys being creative when it came to asking girls to prom. She is a lucky gal to have been asked by someone who cared enough to make it that special! I am also in awe of your centerpiece boquet! Bet you don't cut your blooms like that often, but I imagine it gave you a lot of pride to be able to come up with something that stunning from your own garden! I really did like the peristrokya as well! I can't imagine digging your tulips each year, but then again if it allowed you to enjoy a flower that you loved and normally wouldn't get to, it would be worth it. I guess I drag some horribly heavy tropicals into the greenhouse every year, and it's kind of along the same lines!
Mauryhillfarm, Your son looks very "professional" all dressed up! What kind of musical even was it? What a loving and tolerant mom to have said yes when her son said that he wanted to learn to play the drums! I can't imagine an instrument that a parent cringes more at, but when you watch a good drummer play it is unbelieveable.
Redchic, I am still LOL at the bourbon rose smell! I am fairly certain I lost my evergreen spring clematis this year (broke off at the base with the snow I am thinking), so am definitely going to replace it. One that smells like chocolate sounds heavenly! Will have to look into that one! I really like your pics, especially the black and white of the blooming trees! What a beautiful way to capture that! I also really like azalea pics, especially the purple one!
I am sure glad that those of you who had kids attending prom yesterday got a little bit of sunshine! We got a teeny window, but rained most of the day. Made it hard to get the mandatory stuff like lawn mowing and rose spraying done!
I did get to see my deck tulips ALMOST open for a few mintues.
lol.... thanks RJ. Yeah, I was really excited about a rose that smelled like bourbon. lol.... Oh well, maybe someday! I love your star magnolia as well! That's too bad about your evergreen clematis. :-( But, maybe it will come back?! The downside of the clematis montana wilsonii, comparatively, would be that it's not evergreen. However, it more than makes up for that in fragrance!!!
You weren't that far off Bea. Besides, I only know that one so well because of the heart shaped leaves. I saw it once and just had to, had to, had to... find out what the lovely, graceful, tree was that appeared to be weeping hearts!
Red it was a great tree. Made a beutiful sound in the breeze too!
RJ..yeah it was hard clipping so many of my flowers in one swoop..but they enjoyed them and with that hard downpour we had yesterday afternoon..they would have been toast! Had many tulip petals all over this morning. Clean up tomorrow!
This looked funny to me this morning. A spent daffodil trying to eat a spent tulip!
Bea, loved your carnivorous daffodil! Your hosta looks great, too. How do you deal with the slugs that love them?
A busy day, trying to catch up with the lack of absence of rain! More pictures soon when the energy level has been restored.
Wonderful swimming frog picture, Bea......
I think the frogs in my yard help control the slug numbers. I do use Sluggo if I see a bunch attacking a particular plant..but i try not to use that stuff as much as possible.
I grow hosta's in my pond also in rock crevises and they do great. They are just starting to take off now..so should have some pictures of those in a week or two.
Found my first Lupine today being pampered by a nice ladybug!
Redchic, If they have geraniums that smell like strawberries, I am sure that eventually there will be a rose that smells like bourbon! I am hoping my evergreen clematis comes back, but evergreen isn't as important in this particular area as tall tall tall, and a wonderful scent. It climbs a cedar tree, so the green is always there. I just absolutely love having my cedar bloom for me!
Bea, Your anenomes are beautiful as usual. You have definitely convinced me I need to give them one more try! I also like your daf/tulip pic......so if they make new bulbs will it be a daffolips? Can't wait to see your lupine bloom..and love the new froggie as well. Looks kind of like he is wearing a froggy speedo in the clover pic!
All sorts of stuff peeking out today, but not a whole lot new. Haven't posted a pic of one of my favorite heucheras yet...finally recovering from the cold weather stunting. This is Peach Flambe'...unfortunately with grass clippings on it as I had to mow with the bag off yesterday due to the wet wet wet wet....
