Spring Epis

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

I am so happy. I almost killed an epi so now I will be rewarded with blooms. lol
Don't have a clue to it's identity but will post a pic when it opens.
Hoping one of you good people can id it for me. Moved it from the g house to my
back deck, would hate to miss my blooms if they open at night.

Nice! Jim Hunter?

Jim owns http://www.gotepis.com/cart/

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

I got my 10 and they all look good. I should have had him wait a week on delivery as they came through a cold snap. One was a little "frozen" but looks like it should be OK.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

I think that the change in weather surprised everyone.

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Oh right...thanks

I was a Target yesterday walking through the garden center I glanced over to the cactus section and what to my amazement did I see but a epi plant. The label says it is a Rhipsalis rhombea
It is not listed in the plant files. But I did find this http://www.desert-tropicals.com/Plants/Cactaceae/Rhipsalis_rhombea.html

Sandy

(Zone 1)

Oh, the R. rhombea is really neat looking. Sandy, you should add it to PF with a photo or two.

Here are some more photo's of R. rhombea: http://cactiguide.com/cactus/?genus=Rhipsalis&species=rhombea

Thanks first I need to get some pictures, If it ever stops raining!!!!! How is it down in your area??

Sandy

(Zone 1)

Gee, the last few months we've been praying for rain ... well, it started raining on Sunday, we've had almost 8 inches in 48 hours here in Daytona Beach, and it's still raining! We are predicted to get up to 10 more inches in the next couple of days! I'm glad our property is fairly high because we are under flood watches. We've gone from Fire watches to Flood watches. The rain has really been needed to put out the fires around the state though, so that's something to be grateful for!

... Hurricane season starts in a few weeks.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

Have you looked at the weather map of the whole state? There is a clear circular flow of these rain clouds. I think what is happened is our nor'easter met up with a sub tropical storm system. And the Dance is own. LOL

Sandy

(Zone 1)

The news just said some areas have already had 14" of rain! Here in Volusia County we've had more rain than we had with Tropical Storm Fay last year and that storm sure did some damage to a lot of areas in Florida. Boy am I glad my house is on high ground! It's still raining and supposed to continue through the weekend.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

Here to.!!!! 100% today and 80% tomorrow. I live on a small hill (more like a bump) and if you walk around out there you sink into mud.

Sandy

(Zone 1)

We had another 2" of rain overnight and it's still raining!

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Time to break out the Ark! :-(
Sending dry weather vibes your way!

(Zone 1)

Thanks phoebes! Here we were praying for rain to douse all of the brush fires around the state and now we have flooding problems! I just hope this isn't what we have in store for the long tropical weather season! Florida is so low in places, there's nowhere for all that water to drain! I got up at 3 a.m. and turned the t.v. on and they were showing flooding not far from us on a road that runs along the waterfront. One home had to be evacuated because of rising water intrusion. I've always thought I'd like to live on the water but then we have weather like this and I change my mind quickly ... of course property on the water is unaffordable anyway!

OCCAROL great flowers

Lin At least I live near the water ways and now that they get the drains fixed, we are not flooding. But it is wet.
When I went out to the shade house everything is wet even in there my dog found the only spot that was dry to hide in.

I hope it stops soon so I can pot up my new cuttings.

OCCAROL: Beautiful blooms on those Epi's ... both the named one as well as the noid, really lovely!

Wren: Noon news says we've now had 15+ inches of rain in Daytona Beach and just north of here in Flagler they've had 20"! ... and it's still raining! I live about 1/4 mile west of the Intracoastal Waterway and thankfully on high ground! It was a street that runs right along the river (ICW) that was flooded last night and folks had to evacuate because of water in their home. I heard that power lines were down in some cities too. I think there's more rain from this system than from Tropical Storm Fay last year.

Oh ... your poor doggie, having to be outside in this weather! I assume he isn't a family member that is allowed inside the house?

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

. He was outside with me, I was checking on the plants and hoping he would go to the bathroom. Andre is a house doggie He even sleeps in my bed if I am not to restless. But he is use to us going out with my bike for a run twice a day, to play ball a couple times a day and to chase squirrels. It is a toss up of who is going to climb the walls first.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

I did get the hairy one to go outside long enough to pee poor boy was about ready to pop. LOL

Many of my epis are damp even in the shade house. I had to move my seedlings in there as the pots where soaked and had standing water in the pots.

If any of you have epis hanging out in trees in this mess you may need to bring them in. This is way to much water for them.

Sandy

(Zone 1)

I agree ... way to much water for Epi's and succulents. I brought some hoyas inside but the few epi's are hanging out in the patio soaked to the core. I hope I don't end up with a lot of rotted plants!

I'm glad you got your fur baby to go out to do his business! LOL, I thought you were meaning that he stayed outside and was trying to find a place to hide from the rain. My friend's dog hates to get his paws wet! She has a heck of a time getting him to go out when it's raining ... like some human kids, they hold it as long as possible until they Really, Really HAVE to go! ^_^

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

The funny thing about Andre is he likes to play in water, but hates to go out when it rains. One crazy dog.

Oh, Andre is so handsome! LOL, isn't it something about dogs. My sister has 3 humongous dogs and the yellow lab jumps in the pool every time they open the door to let him out but he doesn't like going out in the rain ... must be something about those drizzles and drops they don't care for.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

I don't know but the poor brat is tired of it. And I agree-3 days with out any sun is to much.

Sandy

(Zone 1)

I agree, depressing not to see the sun for so many days and it's still raining here! We had a little break this afternoon but not for long. It's supposed to rain through the weekend!

~ ~ ~ ~ Florida may be underwater by Monday ~ ~ ~ ~

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

I bet it will before that. Black Creek up here will soon Crest.

If you here a woman her dog was found running down the road screaming--that was me and my dog. LOL

Sandy

Marks, MS(Zone 7b)

don't feel bad. I swear we have only had a few sunny days in the last 3 months. I have heard that tornado season has been extended, and yesterday on the news, they said they thought hurricane season would probably start early this year. I dont know how many tornado watches and warnings we have had here, and When I went to my brothers in Illinois to get away from my storms, I went through an "inland hurricane". My driveway is flooded. My swimming pool (which I have only been able to swim in a few times this year anyways) keeps overflowing. My plants are saturated. I have hundereds of rhipsalis and aporophyllum cuttings that some are starting to rot rather then root. Soooo dissapointing!

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

I am thankful that the roof on the shade house is keeping my epis from drowned. But I am so tired of it.
