Swap Chat III Ric & Holly's

Sequim, WA(Zone 8a)

:-) I planted it and several smaller lilac's in one huge planter by my front door (at least 4 others) - I assume they will all have to be planted in the ground eventually - but, for now they can live where they live :-)

Wind, What color is the foxglove? I'd like to try one in my garden.

Gita, your lilac looks like mine, it came with the house, I keep triming it out ever year to get it to flower lower where I can enjoy the scent. Right now mine is in tight buds, you are about a week ahead of me in bloom time.

Any one interested in Gloriosa Daisies? I grew these from seed many years ago and some come back every year, they also reseed. Can't guarantee they will all look like this, some are just all yellow without the maroon center ring. Lots of babies to thin out.

Jill - I went and found my double betta tank - so no tank needed ^_^

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

OK, then he will come to you in tupperware! LOL

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

does look good Gita... same shape so far... thanks!... makes me crazy when I get seeds in a swap and there is a name like that... but they were free so i try not to complain...

I have you down for annuals Bec...

Crozet, VA

Chris - I had to laugh a bit when I read about you trying to get the Lilac to bloom lower where you can smell it. It reminds me of something that John and I found out this year. We had a few hyacinths pop up a couple of weeks ago and wanted to take in their aroma but found out that our age is catching up with us. We were both afraid to get down as low as we would have had to in order to smell it. ha-ha Afraid that we couldn't get back up after being down that low. ha-ha Aging ain't for no sissies, that is for sure. hahaha

Ruby, that is why I have one of these http://www.gardeners.com/Garden-Kneelers/GardeningTools_LaborSaving,35-662RS,default,cp.html
It goes every where in the garden with me, the hanging tool pouch is also handy.
I know about the low spring flowers I have some fragrant daffs and I have to pick a few just to enjoy the scent. Luckly they have multiplied over the years, so a few plucked ones are not noticed in the yard.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

LadyG, I'd like some Gloriosa Daisies, please.
Catbird, I'm digging the Orn Plums today a will put your name on one of them.
Critter, was it you that also wanted one?
Ric mowed down one of the best looking seedlings. How do you mow a 2ft seedling standing all alone with no weeds around it? DUH

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Typical man.

Near Lake Erie, NW, PA(Zone 5a)

Holly, got you down for Gloriosa Daisies.

Ric, I am shocked ! But don't fret, you have lots of company.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Yes, please, Holly on the plum seedling. THanks!

Folks, Just found this thread. Sorry to be making requests on the other one. I'm sure I can donate something or other for the prize table. Is it all gardening related?

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Prize table I didn't know there was one ????

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Me neither jen--I am not one of those (very generous) people that wants to bring gifts for everything LOL

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Sometime, there is a door prize table, and I may have a few things, and a few people mentioned bring something. BUT with all the swapping going on I'm not sure anyone will notice a door prize table. LOL
I'm not playing games either so if we do have a few things to give out it will be some very easy system.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

You know what--Holly!!!
If there are ONLY a few gift things for the "Mystery" Prize table----and NOT enough to share--YOU get to keep them all!!!!! Small "fee" for hosting such a large Plant swap!!!!

I KNOW it will be loverly!!!!!

Gita

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

Holly, you will have enough to do at the swap. Maybe someone with experience will volunteer to handle raffle/door/game prizes. Everybody likes to win something. It could make someone's day.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

LOL, With all the plants and food, I didn't think we needed to bring extra things for door prizes. Plus people will be spread out sitting and talking. Not to mention eating, have you seen the food list, we will have enough to feed us for a month. LOL You are right everyone does like a surprise, I would just draw names for what ever there is to give out but if someone would like to put together something else you are welcome to do that.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

I would do a prize for farthest trip, shortest trip, most plants brought or swapped...something like that.

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

Do any of you know DGer TwinLakesChef/Arlene? She's one of the first people I met here on DG and we have been corresponding for some time. She is hosting the Iowa Round up this year. She's been inviting me to this all along. Apparently people come from all over the country, even by airplane and then rent Uhauls to take the booty home.

You must read this thread. You can't believe how many threads divided into projects are associated with this RU. She doesn't even think that it's very much work. She also spends time at her other home in Cal and with her other daughter in NYC. Let alone all of the events she caters, many volunteer. What a gal!. Ooops, I almost spilled the beans on who the mystery guests are! The door prize thread proves that anything goes, but I didn't see anybody there trading fish!! LOL

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

That's not a round up that is a DG convention...awesome!!!

Sequim, WA(Zone 8a)

No kidding (that is a round-up on steroids)!

Sequim, WA(Zone 8a)

Anyone into crafting? I have some craft books I need to find good homes for....

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

LOL Beck I have an old set of Time/Life crafting books and was thinking of setting them out and see if anyone would take them home.
Not to mention the one and only very large, rather aggressive, African Cichlid in my fish tank that I would like to find a home for.
FlowerJen, Sounds like you have a few good ideas for the door prizes, would you be interested in organizing that for me?

Near Lake Erie, NW, PA(Zone 5a)

Or, a "Chinese Auction" for the door prizes. Everyone gets so many " Tickets ' (slips of paper) write their name on the pieces of paper and place as many chancesas they like in a jar in front of the prizes they would like to win. Holly draws the first name out of the jar, then that winner draws the next prize. That way if someone brings, oh lets say, a book on gardening and you already have the book you would not put your name in to win that prize.
Just a thought.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Oh, Lady that does sound like fun and very easy to do. I think I really like that one.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Guess Chris is in charge of that ^_^

Near Lake Erie, NW, PA(Zone 5a)

Only if you are going to help, Jen. Yes, I love you too

Lets see what others have to say, before this is a done deal. This may get some other creative juices flowing.

Chris

Sequim, WA(Zone 8a)

Holly - I don't think my little Betta tank would hold a huge aggressive African cichlid - I've been toying with the idea of getting a fishtank, but so many other things have priority...

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

LOL Bec,

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Bec--there are SO many aquariums for sale in these circulars that people can place free ads in! Hope you check some of them out! No need to blow Mega Bucks in a tropical fish store!!! Craigs list???

Walmart has a good supply stock on tropical fish accessories too......

Sequim, WA(Zone 8a)

I have looked at Craigs, freecycle etc - I just have so many other things going on, maybe this fall :-) If I get one again it'll be a "big'un"

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

OH no Bec, I might be able to bring one to you at the swap. What size do you want?

Sequim, WA(Zone 8a)

Ah, as big as possible...a fishtank - how cool is that!

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

Let me check with DSO. He has some fresh water ones that I'm sure he'll part with. Let me get him to measure them tomorrow.

Sequim, WA(Zone 8a)

Wow - hopefully they are not in use ^_^

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

Sorry Bec, no fish. Just more junk in the garage & basement. I hear that some people actually have room for cars in their garage. Imagine that!
