I cannot believe you have blooms already, I should not be far behind.

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

My turn! I've been in FL working for the past month and returned to heaven. Whoever asked if there could be too much scent--I have to answer NO!

First up, all 3 of my Banana shrubs were heavily in bloom, the most I've ever seen and smelled. I still believe that Figo smells more like bubble gum (maybe juicyfruit) and Skinners is Banana Rum.

Combined with the Banana Shurbs, my forest of Black Locust trees were covered in their wisteria-like white blooms with a scent of spicy grape jelly. Combined, the 2 scents dominated the yard and drifted into the house. A feast for a severely starved nose, LOL.

Rosa 'Zephirine Drouhin' adorned my front door with her mystical scent combined with Tea Olives, Clematis 'Elizabeth' -- her scent is hot coco and Hall's Honeysuckle.

Unfortunately, I missed the peak of my Wisteria tree and lilac, but each saved some blooms for me to sniff. I also have a riot of annual & perennial pinks blooming, the wild azlaleas down by the stream, 2 fragrant Iris, one is 'Victoria Falls' and the other the oldie from Flowerscent Gardens--anyone recall it's name? It's the one they make the perfume base from called Orris root? Anyone still have a catolog from Glen (Chantell?)

My overblown wisteria... sigh .. it was such a sight to see when the dogwoods bloomed behind her.

Yayyyyyy! So glad you had so much to come home to! It's been a late blooming season here, because of the crazy winter, so hope you didn't "miss it all" as you thought you would- especially those wild azaleas. BTW, I forgot until now that locust trees were fragrant. Memories of the family farms now past..........thank you.

Oh Vi - SO happy for you that everything looks so good!!! Found a NOID jasmine at a local nusery in a gal pot....all kinds of buds... Leaves remind me of the Grand Dukes, Belle of India etc....can't wait for the buds to open

Sacramento, CA(Zone 9a)

Never really considered white callas fragrant, but when I picked a bunch for an arrangement, there is definitely a noticable scent. nice and subtle. So I went back outside and took a closer sniff.

White tree peony also has a nice fragrance.

But my brugmansia has no signs of growth yet from the winter dieback.

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

That tree peony looks wonderful! My Sara Bernheart has buds.

I am soooo glad to be home, although I have days of weeding ahead of me, the scent makes it worthwile!

Jazz--you have mail.

Chantell, could you look up that Iris for me in Glen's catalog? Pretty please? It does smell great and I think it's an heirloom plant.

Absolutely Vi!! Didn't know Iris' had scent....learn something new everyday

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Gotta wait till I'm home though...till then - look at my little babys...Lilly of the Valley during a spring "shower" or something..

My new NOID Jasmine treasure I picked up at Lake Ridge Nursery (Becky told me about this place)....I was simply trying to finish my side job...determined I would not stop any where...when THIS place pops up and my car turns into the parking lot AGAINST my will....sheesh!! So I thought...well - what could a quick walk through hurt...ugh

Chantell, just a guess but that looks like maybe one of the sambac jasmines? And, now I've got to look into Lily of the Valley- think I could manage to grow it as an annual?

Vi- that iris sure is pretty. Envy.

Soils, I ADORE calla lilies. Had no idea they could be fragrant. I've found them to be disease prone. What's your secret?

Rob- where are you dear? Please check out this link:

Vi, I think we have an ID. Could it be the same pink jasmine? It was in partial shade, so may just need more sun to look like Rob's??????

Sinking spring, PA(Zone 5b)

Well, drum roll please. Not much on smell........

Is that Maya, F4F? Yeah...I was thinking Sambac something or other...no matter to me - I've not met a sambac my nose didn't like...LOL

Sacramento, CA(Zone 9a)

Chantell - many irises do have some scent - but I don't like a lot of their scents. So are fine though.

F4F - these white callas that I have are super easy and grows well without much care. Must be the climate here because I see it in many yards. I have since bought a variety of different color ones, but have not noticed if they are fragrant or not. Will have to wait another month or two because they bloom much later.

Still waiting for my brugmansia to show any sign of life - love seeing all the blooms that you all have.

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Ok Dear Vi - here ya go on Glenn's description of the two he had listed:

"Iris 'Immortality" (Iris germanica) It is a wonderful variety and it is a representative of an Iris tha tblooms not only in the late spring but also in the fall. The plentiful large flowers are very pale powder blue when young but as they age turn a pure white. The fragrance is very sugary sweet. This Iris is a very reliable, repeat bloomer in most areas of the country.

Iris "Zebra Yellow Variegated" (Iris pallida variegata Aurea) This attractive Iris was found in 1930 and is a variegated Pallida form. The 'Pallida' Iris is known to be the most fragrant of the Iris and is not likely to be found at your neighborhood garden center. The variegated green leaf blades have a band of deep yellow. They are stunningly colorful in the sunshine! To make it extra special, the lavender blue to purple flowers have a wonderfully sweet 'grape juice' perfume. " -- 2007 Flower Scent Gardens Glenn Varner

FULL SUN for both

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

F4F, that is a lovely var. brug? but is not Maya which is definitely peach and smells wonderful. If it is a brug, post it in the brug forum for ID, my Maya is below. Can you grow Iris in your zone? I saw the link on the pink Jasmine and posted a PF link--not knowing it was closed!

I have lots of Iris many didn't bloom due to the drought lately, but I try to collect ones with scent--however, they are not wafting, you need to get at least a foot near to them, but great in a vase. Some of mine really do smell great, some were grape, others perfume. Vanity & Victoria falls are a couple that I can think of. I have a great list somewhere...will post when I find them!

Chantell, I envy your Lily-of-the-Valley!! Birdie sent me a whole slew of them and I still don't see a single one :( I've tried so many times to grow them here!

Thanks Chantell! I have both! The 'Pallida' Iris was buried under my Winter Honeysuckle bush, it has grown but has not flowered yet--going to clear it now! Look for a dmail soon.

Glad to hear Maya's fragrant...a fellow Mid Atlantic DGer brought me a rooted thick cutting at our swap in Feb. Can't wait to get these all outdoors...very soon - maybe even next week. I keep looking at the night temps to keep track. As for the Lilly of Valley - every time I bought them (including from FCG) they'd die on me. Rec'd some at our swap 2 yrs ago and whhhaaa laaaa....they've come back last year and this year for me...sweet little babies that they are!!! As for the Iris' when you come across you list, yes - please share. I wouldn't mind a few that had a perfume like fragrance (not so much the grape type though...LOL). I'm so pleased you're being able to enjoy your garden and those sweet pups of yours!!!

Sinking spring, PA(Zone 5b)

Hello all and thanks for the info on calla, iris, lily of the valley, etc. No, that is not 'Maya'. It's my hot find, I hope. It's a patented variety called 'Miner's Claim.' I looooooove the white and yellow variegation, and that it y'd without getting too huge.

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

what???? no fragrance in 5 days? I don't believe it!

This calla is either Giant White or Hercules, I can NEVER keep them straight. In any case, I am posting here because the yellow thingy is subtly fragrant. very nice, even if you have to stick your nose to it. Hubby is holding the bloom. Isn't that the biggest thing you ever saw?

Was just thinking as I scrolled up (yes, I start at the bottom)- what the heck?!?!? LOL You ARE so bad, Nery! ^_^

Sequim, WA(Zone 8a)

I'm normally not a huge fan of but a few petunias and never buy the ready made hanging pots, but...met up with Chantell for a bite to eat on Saturday, there was a plant vendor in Target parkinglot and we just had to meander over - he had the most amazingly fragrant wave petunias and I had to nab 2 baskets - found another one as well - Sugar Daddy - smells, oh so sweet

ahhhhhh....you know I LOVE that one with the veins!!! Telling you THIS is the first year that I've seen "fancy" ones with scent. Me? I've got the good ole dark purple Wally World specials...and one bitty pot w/smaller creamish "wave" ones....smell yum-meee

Sinking spring, PA(Zone 5b)

Wow you guys. What awesome pictures! Now I need to have calla lillies- always loved them. Vossner, that flower is stupendous. And BTW, you northern folks, I currently have sprouted fragrant petunias and dianthes from seed set for doom.......can't we explain to zones that they are silly for impeeding happiness? ;-)

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

f4f. I have told them many times but they don't listen.
