Best/Worse &What did I learnt today/Chat with Friends #99

Victoria Harbour, ON

Shar, it's been raining here all day, even had my micro furnace on as the dampness/cold goes right through you...I have many garden gloves, even painted a mailbox last year, put it in the friendship garden to know where they are, start with a pair on my hands but within minutes off the come and I'm working in the ground without them...

Your day sounds wonderful Shar... what a way to spend it..

LindaKay, I could live on tomatoes when in season, I've chosen the almost green one for sandwich, hope your dad doesn't mind..

It's tomorrow right when our Tubby goes to the doctors????
offering prayers with those before me Tubby..let's hope it's good news.. when you say transplant, are you meaning 'bone marrow transplant? don't know much about it, could you tell me how it works??

Baton Rouge, LA

Hey Everyone!

Shar - we had beautiful weather here as well...just I had that stupid job thing I had to do....so I envy you playing in the dirt today !

Betty - That's wonderful that they spend time with you....perhaps it's best that they each have their own "Grandma season"

I am finding that sometimes....I will know something DH does not. His specialty is landscaping....but I've been learning more on annuals, herbs, the pretty stuff....

I notice that twinkle in his eye when I spout something out that I have learned....but then of course we spar a bit on other things.... (He thinks my potato vine is evil, I think his indian hawthornes are boring...etc.) :)

Gardening with him has been loads of fun! I never would have thought I would be this excited about it....I know Mom is laughing at me having a great time watching....

LK - maters look great! I've got one little bitty green one......Roma......

Sharran - Sounds like a Big Veggie garden in the works for you !

Hugs,

Mary

GARDEN SNAKES CAN BE DANGEROUS...

Garden Grass Snakes also known as Garter Snakes (Thamnophissirtalis) can be dangerous. Yes, grass snakes , not only rattlesnakes. Here's why.

A couple in Sweetwater, Texas, had a lot of potted plants . During a recent cold spell, the wife was bringing a lot of them indoors to protect them from a possible freeze.

It turned out that a little green garden grass snake was hidden in one of the plants. When it had warmed up, it slithered out and the wife saw it go under the sofa.

She let out a very loud scream. The husband (who was taking a shower) ran out into the living room naked to see what the problem was. She told him there was a snake under the sofa.

He got down on the floor on his hands and knees to look for it. About that time the family dog came and cold-nosed him on the behind. He thought the snake had bitten him, so he screamed and fell over on the floor. His wife thought he had had a heart attack, so she covered him up, told him to lie still and called an ambulance.

The attendants rushed in, would not listen to his protests, loaded him on the stretcher, and started carrying him out.

The wife still had the problem of the snake in the house, so she called on a neighbor who volunteered to capture the snake. He armed himself with a rolled-up newspaper and began poking under the couch. Soon he decided it was gone and told the woman, who sat down on the sofa in relief.

But while relaxing, her hand dangled in between the cushions, where she felt the snake wriggling around. She screamed and fainted, the snake rushed back under the sofa. The neighbor man, seeing her lying there passed out, tried to use CPR to revive her.

The neighbor's wife, who had just returned from shopping at the grocery store, saw her husband's mouth on the woman's mouth and slammed her husband in the back of the head with a bag of canned goods, knocking him out and
cutting his scalp to a point where it needed stitches.

The noise woke the woman from her dead faint and she saw her neighbor lying on the floor with his wife bending over him, so she assumed that the snake had bitten him. She went to the kitchen and got a small bottle of whiskey, and began pouring it down the man's throat.

By now, the police had arrived. Breath here...

They saw the unconscious man, smelled the whiskey, and assumed that a drunken fight had occurred. They were about to arrest them all, when the women tried to explain how it all happened over a little green snake . The police called an ambulance, which took away the neighbor and his sobbing wife.

Now, the little snake again crawled out from under the sofa and one of the policemen drew his gun and fired at it. He missed the snake and hit the leg of the end table. The table fell over, the lamp on it shattered and, as the bulb broke, it started a fire in the drapes.

The other policeman tried to beat out the flames, and fell through the window into the yard on top of the family dog who, startled, jumped out and raced into the street, where an oncoming car swerved to avoid it and smashed into the parked police car.

Meanwhile, neighbors saw the burning drapes and called in the fire department. The firemen had started raising the fire ladder when they were halfway down the street. The rising ladder tore out the overhead wires, put out the power,
and disconnected the telephones in a ten-square city block area (but they did get the house fire out).

Time passed! Both men were discharged from the hospital, the house was repaired, the dog came home, the police acquired a new car and all was right with their world.

Sometime later they were watching TV and the weatherman
announced a cold snap for that night. The wife asked her husband if he thought they should bring in their plants for the night.

And that's when he shot her.

HA! Got to send to DH....as you may remember, this nearly happened at my house! :)

Victoria Harbour, ON

OMG...I'm so laughing...should I be?

Winds are so strong here, lights are flickering, perhaps I had better get something to eat just incase the power goes out..looking at those big oak trees swaying from side to side, lordy if one will fall, let it fall on the dining room window, need to replace that one..lol

Mary when Roger was alive and I taught paper tole, he would make all the frames, we'd get into it re color, design etc. but it was so much fun doing it together so I know what you mean by sharing it with DH..good for you..

You know me, can't sit still for 2 minutes, Darlene called and said she and Mike would come over Sat. to finish this project so I've decided to take all the boxes of patterns and go through them, reorganize..figure if I take 3 boxes out an evening I should be done by Sunday...

Lyndonville, NY

Betty, we have the same horrible weather here. Been like this all day, and I went chasing the garbage cans down the road twice! Thankfully today was trash day, so I stacked them all together the last time...and hope they don't blow again.

I must have missed about Tubby having a bone marrow transplant. Dear Lord, if this is the case, keep him close in prayers. With our DD, I know too much about that and many children/young adults who have gone through them. Did he perhaps mean a bone marrow biopsy?

As for my "memory garden", I have another idea that I am going to do. My DM and I always had coffee together. So I am getting one of those big cup & saucer planters to put in the garden....and even going to make a pot out of a Maxwell House coffee can! One of her favorites for ever. I am having each of the kids paint a stone for Grandma also.

Sharran, Moms butterfly bush was the dark purple also, so that is the color I would like to get. I also want to put some wind chimes out there, and perhaps a few little chicken figurines. Moms neighbors had chickens...and the cutest thing ever...was watching this tiny little 4' 10" woman chase the chickens out of her yard with a broom! Betty, imagine your DM! LOL

Well, I need some popcorn or something to crunch. I am supposed to be watching Dancing for DH, he needed to run to the funeral home for a Wake for a co-workers father.

Trisha I loved the story..Just imagining how it all unfolded..I'd read and laugh at each turn of events. Thank You for a good laugh..LOL

Thank You All for the good wishes..I'll get a stem cell transplant. I had a transplant Aug, 04..They hooked me up to a machine..It separates the baby stem cells from the blood..They said there was enough for 6 tran..
Don't know how many they saved ..At least 1 in case needed, and I guess I need it..The baby stem cells are cancer free..I'll get a kick butt dose of cemo..Next day they give me back my baby stem cells..Sounds easy right.LOL
It is except the super shot of cemo makes you weak..Not what I want this spring..My hopes are that I don't have to have pretreatments of cemo first.
Before I had to spend a week in the hospital once a month..The cemo I was getting took 96 hrs slow drip..I know I wont be getting the same cemo this time..That one damaged my heart..I have a mechanical valve..
If I lay just right it sounds like a Timex..LOL

Nite All
Tubby

Just had a thought..Wonder if those Baby cells will make me Younger...LOL

Oh DAY 10 no cigs...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

GOOD JOB TUBBY!!!!

Sorry - you have to go through all that.... My thoughts are with you!

I had to read my e-mails, while listening to the news..

Best grab a Kleenex..LOL

One day a
teacher asked her students to list the names of the other students in the room
on two sheets of paper, leaving a space between each name.

Then
she told them to think of the nicest thing they could say about each of
their classmates and write it down.
It
took the remainder of the class period to finish their assignment, and as
the students left the room, each one handed in the papers..

That
Saturday, the teacher wrote down the name of each student on a separate
sheet of paper, and listed what everyone else had said about that
individual.

On
Monday she gave each student his or her list. Before long, the entire class
was smiling. 'Really?' she heard whispered. 'I never knew that I meant
anything to anyone!' and, 'I didn't know others liked me so much,' were most
of the comments.

No
one ever mentioned those papers in class again. She never knew if they
discussed them after class or with their parents, but it didn't matter. The
exercise had accomplished its purpose. The students were happy with
themselves and one another. That group of students moved on.

Several
years later, one of the students was killed in Viet
Nam and his teacher attended the funeral of that
special student. She had never seen a serviceman in a military coffin
before. He looked so handsome, so mature.
The
church was packed with his friends. One by one those who loved him took a
last walk by the coffin. The teacher was the last one to bless the
coffin.

As
she stood there, one of the soldiers who acted as pallbearer came up to her..
'Were you Mark's math teacher?' he asked. She nodded: 'yes.' Then he said:
'Mark talked about you a lot.'

After
the funeral, most of Mark's former classmates went together to a luncheon.
Mark's mother and father were there, obviously waiting to speak with his
teacher.

'We
want to show you something,' his father said, taking a wallet out of his
pocket 'They found this on Mark when he was killed We thought you might
recognize it.'

Opening
the billfold, he carefully removed two worn pieces of notebook paper that
had obviously been taped, folded and refolded many times. The teacher knew
without looking that the papers were the ones on which she had listed all
the good things each of Mark's classmates had said about him.
'Thank
you so much for doing that,' Mark's mother said. 'As you can see, Mark
treasured it.'

All
of Mark's former classmates started to gather around. Charlie smiled rather
sheepishly and said, 'I still have my list. It's in the top drawer of my
desk at home.'

Chuck's
wife said, 'Chuck asked me to put his in our wedding
album.'

'I
have mine too,' Marilyn said. 'It's in my
diary'

Then
Vicki, another classmate, reached into her pocketbook, took out her wallet
and showed her worn and frazzled list to the group.. 'I carry this with me at
all times,' Vicki said and without batting an eyelash, she continued: 'I
think we all saved our lists'

That's
when the teacher finally sat down and cried. She cried for Mark and for all
his friends who would never see him again.

The
density of people in society is so thick that we forget that life will end
one day. And we don't know when that one day will
be.

So
please, tell the people you love and care for, that they are special and
important. Tell them, before it is too late.

Remember,
you reap what you sow. What you put into the lives of others comes back into
your own.

May
Your Day Be Blessed As Special As You
Are

You are in our prayers every day Tubby.....wishing you all the best with your transplant.

Tubby - That is a very special wish. I love it. I will cherish the lives that I touch because you pointed that out...

Tubby, keeping you close in thoughts and prayers. We have spent much time at the Hospital in Rochester since 1994 with our DD and cancer treatment, and this is not an easy road you travel. I know, with your wonderful sense of humor, you will keep everyone in good spirts...which will keep you in good spirits also.

I am trying to stay awake and watch Jeff Dunham on Letterman, have the VCR set, but don't think I am going to stay awake much longer.

Sweet dreams,
Debbie

Good Morning! Just wanted to check in, won't be on much this week due to busy at work and conference. Having a bad week and it started yesterday morning right when I got to work, it's gone downhill from there.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Good morning all,

have my Kleenex, tears falling..now that's a teacher that has made a life time impact on her students...isn't it odd, seldom spoken is what we mean to people and yet when we are dead, so much of how we've impacted lives is said aloud!

Tubby thanks for the post..really touching...can tell by all your posts just how easy going you are, seeing the good and letting the negative go, I'm sure it will get you through the next phase..very interesting, know you are not thinking so or perhaps you are as it's saving your life...Timex watch, only you could think of that..lol..my prayers are going with you today..is today right?

Debbie it was quite the storm last night, had some picking up to do this a.m. as well..power didn't go out but I sat and watched those big oak/maple trees bend from side to side wondering just how they could have to much play in them...roots sure must be strong..

Love the little Fairy garden Trisha..know you've made the mushrooms ..adorable, will it be outside..

Laura (Wonderhug) sending prayers, do hate to see you so upset...
Why don't you get dressed in your prettiest outfit, if you've seen our Shar's article today about having a tea party, doll yourself up, go out on your own, sit and have a tea in a little tea room, spend time reflecting on on the positives of life, look around you and see the beauty and of course pretend we're there just a gabbing with you, making you laugh, surrounding you with love...why not? Laura you asked that we post stories about gardens and I guess families also..

On Sunday night I was just so tired that off to bed I went, perhaps 9 or 9:30, Sailor (Border Collie) has problems with her ears, as soon as the telephone rings she howls and howls so I always try to catch the telephone prior to 2 or 3 rings..

At about 10pm telephone rings, I get it on the 1st ring - no one there...
fell back asleep and at about 10:15 telephone rings, get it on 1st ring again, no one there nor do they leave a message..sometime when the power goes off I have to reset the # of rings so that wasn't unusual..no sooner did I fall asleep, now probably about 10:30 or so telephone rings and 1 ring only, again no message...don't have call display or if I do I don't know how to set it up..lol...now I'm wondering, who could be calling, what can have gone wrong???? at 11:10 telephone rings, 1 ring, I answer and no one is there, no message..so now I'm really concerned, laying there waiting for the telephone to ring again..didn't, but was up waiting for it and couldn't get back to sleep...
Arrived in the office early yesterday, no one mentioned there was any type of family emergency so guess it was just the lines..

Yesterday I picked up all the replacement flooring and needed help taking the 20' roll out of my vehicle, called Greg's cel and he was just entering town so he came in and brought it into the house...

He wondered if by any chance I was getting ready to sell, I often say I will because all the work that needs done to house and grounds takes a lot of energy, I'm an older gal so not an easy task although I do it..we just laughed, told him I was increasing HIS equity...I'm always kidding the boys, the money I put into the house I tell them when they sell after I'm gone they can at least buy themselves a dinner...lol

Just before leaving Greg says, 'mom, did you get any calls last night?', I say, 'yes, about 4 of them late last night why?...well their dog got out early evening and got sprayed by a skunk so it took a lot to get rid of most of the odor but Kyle said he just couldn't put up with the smell, dialed my number, Greg told him to hang up because grandma would surely be in bed, settled him for but a few minutes, he dialed again, Greg said hang up, Greg left the room and Kyle was dialing again, said he wanted to spend the night at grandma's and was sure she'd pick him up...nope, Greg said hang up even though he had dialed...guess same went on another time or 2...so those were my mystery calls...

Crissy sorry your week hasn't gone well..count the days to holidays, soon you'll be on a cruise..a much needed vacation I'm sure...
