Best/Worse &What did I learnt today/Chat with Friends #99

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Betty I am so glad Noah is going to be ok! Love your brood there, what a bunch of good looking boys!

Thank God I never married him. I told him to leave, he stomped his feet and packed his things and left, the next day he told me he was going to burn my house down with me in it so I decided to stay with a friend who I ended up dating for 5 years! Great guy just not outgoing enough for my loud mouth. Then he wanted me to meet him at night on this bridge way out in the country over a river by myself, NOT! Then he went real insane and ended up in jail for a year, don't know what he did and don't really care. I lost a good friend over it, my best best best friend took his side because his new wify decided I was wrong and they moved him in with them. Boy did they regret that! I warned them!

I had a boyfriend in high school I broke up with because he wanted to get married and have kids right after we graduated. I said Oh nooooooooooooooooo and broke it off, figured he would be better off that way cause then he could find someone who did want a family, ended up marrying one of my real good friends and they have the prettiest little girls! I didn't get married until I was 33 and still no kids!

Morning, got caught up, going to go back and read, thanks for the prayers for Noah..just spoke to Greg, said Noah was in a lot of pain, they spent the evening I guess monitoring him re concusion... so all is well in my world again..

Quiet this morning so told the girls I wanted to go look for flooring for my craft room, not a tiny room by any means, 280sq.feet..bought commercial linolieum which looks like oak flooring, called Mountain Oak..not sure when it will get put down but if I have it I'm sure it won't be long..lol..as well a large window 62" W by 72" H for dining room..Greg will try and pick it up by Saturday...that was my morning, now I should settle in..

Mary do enjoy your trip...as the girls said, things happen for a reason..am sure you'll be thrilled with the family vacation..

Off to read the posts, be back in a few minutes .. must catch up..

Victoria Harbour, ON

Jeff sent me an e-mail..thought I'd share..must mean the boys enjoyed their trip....

I talked to the kids and they had the best time ever, so nice to hear. Hope you had a great time and I can imagine you are a little tired. Again, thank you very much for the trip, I can’t wait to hear more detail from your perspective, tried calling you at the office this morning but not sure you are in. Call me when you get a moment and we can catch up.

Betty, so glad to see you posting. We were beginning to worry about you!

Betty, prayers going out for Noah, and get some rest!

A very glorious angel called me last night! It was another Dave's member. She has been following my prayer post and she called me to pray with me over the phone. Oh, how peaceful I felt after that phone call! She reminded me that the most wonderful counselor is, our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ! He can do all things! And I feel so much more positive today. The marriage counselor fell through because she is not in our insurance network. I was really devastated, but God knew how to take care of it. He had the angel call me! Today, I feel like I can do anything!

Thanks for all the comments on pics. I really need to get in the yard and do some serious cleaning and re-planting. My greenhouse is full of plants that need to be put in the yard.

Talk to all of you later. love, julie

Just reading posts..

Mary, I so love the 'Be who you are' so many times we try to be what others want us to be and lose ourselves..

Trisha, so glad your BIL is feeling better..

LindaKay, going over to that thread as soon as I catch up ..have my notes here so shouldn't take much longer

Laura...what a neat idea for a bumper sticker..

Stacey...keeping you in my thoughts and prayers...sometimes idle chat helps..just having friends around supporting you, feeling their love makes the difference..know we've all come to care for each other, you are with friends here..

Judy, Happy 24th Wedding Anniversary...yes, big milestone coming up....I remember thinking all my married life that if I made my 25th Wedding Anniversary it would mean we'd be secure in our marriage, many more years to come, surely we'd make our 50th..

Boys did such an awesome job of planning a surprise 25th..friends/family..on top of the world..who would know that the next day he would fall deathly ill and die within weeks....the 25th I so longed for would be our last...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Laura (Wonderhug) is there an infestation of mice in your region, could it be because of the fires and they are all looking for homes...how's our puppy doing? grandchildren and children...hope you are feeling better..guess you are facing 'winter' while we're all so very excited about spring/summer! I've promised myself I'm going to enjoy sitting and resting each weekend (few hours at least)...

AnnMarie, must be difficult to want to work and yet nothing is available out there...searching must be frustrating...are there part time jobs available for the summer i.e. tourism?

Trisha, boys must wear helmets, second nature to them..even started wearing them on the ski hills..better safe than sorry..

Carol, I can just see your gardens come to life...hope there wasn't a whole lot of damage done..it's amazing here just how much damage has been done..I cleaned much of the big tree that fell and damaged the fencing, then Cathy took a saw and cut more..doubt the neighbor will do much until mid summer with what is on his property...but that's ok...I've thought out a cute garden art fencing that I can close off his side of the property...did that lovely mirror of yours break?

Put out lots of my gardening things out yesterday..looks odd and out of place without green grass and flowers...but I want everything all I can do myself by mother's day, the rest the boys will do..standing Mother's Day gift...spend Sat. helping me with my 'to do' list and boy do I have a 'to do' list..lol

Sounds as though you all enjoyed your Easter..either with family or without...

Julie, sorry to hear things have not improved...prayers for Liam..I'm always saying Julie, there are so many Earthly Angels out there, many on DG as well, we just have to believe in them...just overwhelmes you to think of their kindness..I'm glad one telephoned you, can see how much it has meant to you...NO taking abuse, as you say, mental abuse is more difficult to get over than physical abuse....do take the time to sit and talk with the children and let them know what they mean to you and regardless of what is going on between you and DH, that they are loved and wanted... that will never change..sometimes they just need to hear it..LOVE your beaded blouse..won't you look adorable in it..love the flower photo's..can't wait to post my first flower picture...

Crissy, glad you are ok..I get a kick out of you, shaking my head, you live quite an exciting life...

Debbie, sister Betty is waving to you..how did Easter go..thought of you Monday when I was in Buffalo and had a few hours to sit..we waiting to cross at the border 1 1/2 hrs. - should have met up for coffee.. omg, did stop at CrackerBarrel and was close to the Christmas Tree but didn't have room to fit a 'feather' in the car let alone treats for me...

Barb, did drop in to Joanne's though. bought the material I need for my 2009 block exchange..MUST get them done on the weekend and posted...how are you making out with your sewing projects...

Laura how right you are..I also have found although I adore some friends I've had to break my ties with them, much too negative...has a big impact on me so, for my own sanity and well being, I've moved on...still to this day when I meet them, within 10 minutes of our gabbing I realize it's the best thing I could have done...

Fighting keeping my eyes open, almost lunch time..told the man to cut 3 strips of 20' of the flooring, am hoping I can take 1 roll home today, another tomorrow and last one on Friday..save Darlene having to drive here tomorrow...must pick up something to eat and bring it back into the office...

Lyndonville, NY

Betty, Easter was hard...and too quiet. Missing 3 kids at the table, and Mom of course. She loved Easter. To top it off, I am ready to hang DH on a flag pole...which didn't help the situaiton.

I have heard border crossing has been very long of late. Trying to get new implementations in place...and then the "what are you bringing" issues to take care of. Holidays with gifts that makes harder. Dare I ask, did they search your car? LOL Poor folks if they did with all your goodies.

I am busy planting, trying to get things growing, but I do not have a green thumb, and what I did plant had the damping issue with the seedlings. UGH! I am still learning.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, there is an apron swap gping on, go and check it out if you need another project to keep you busy?

Debbie, that is the cutest thing!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Debbie you have all the girls laughing like crazy here...sooo funny..

Sorry you were sad at Easter...knew it was to be a hard time for you...
You are a beginner gardener just as I..I just plant and hope for the best...

You are doing great with the non-smoking 'tubby'...hard I'm sure but you'll be healthier for it...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Hello Shar...wasn't it fun to get to shop with all those gift cards...glad you fared the weather..you didn't have further damage did you...is your 'black garden' coming up yet?

I dropped into Bernie's this a.m. for 5 minutes, saw him on the tractor..hydro was there to help him take down trees that had fallen on the wires..he'll be cutting and cleaning for at least a week...

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

No more damage, Betty. It is beautiful and warm here. Black garden is just peeping up with iris and daylilies, but lost my silver rose. Still it will be beautiful.

So glad to hear that Noah is OK.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Thanks Shar..Kyle was at the house at noon when I called the girls who were painting..I asked how Noah was and said he wasn't moving very well, but that is to be expected...

Silver rose???? do you have a photo from last year?

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

I think so...it is really a pale lavender, looked silverish though. A nice accent to the other dark colors. I'll look for a photo.

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Here it is...can't remember its name, though, maybe Blue Lady or something like that. A friend sent it to me, and it didn't have a tag on it.

Well I try to keep it exciting, can't stand it when life gets repetitive, that leads to mundane and that isn't going to happen.

Dave almost went out on me last Saturday night. Once again we had decided to stay in as he worked all day this time, It was around 9pm and he had just got up about an hour earlier so he started shaving. I put the toilet lid down to sit and talk to him in the bathroom, he got done shaving, got done with his shower, and put cologne on.
Tiga was sitting on the makeup table next to me and I said, "Tiga, looks like Dad thinks he's going somewhere!"
He said, "Hell yea! I'm going out."
So instead of getting angry and telling him right where to go, I just said ok and went to the couch. Usually I recline, this time I leaned my back against the armrest which put my back to him. He was sitting on the fireplace step putting his shoes on and he was talking, but I would just respond with some grunt or head nod or other.

He finally said, "Well I'm not going anywhere if you're going to be all sad about it."
I reminded him that my dad went out on my mom for 25 years and I've seen and heard all the tricks, let alone when she started going out on my dad, the whole thing got ridiculous, then I said,

"I don't want to spoil your fun, if you want to go, that's fine, go. I know you work nights, therefore you're awake during the night when I am sleepy. You say you worry that the graveyard, or 3rd shift, is going to wreck our marriage. The 3rd shift will Never wreck our marriage because I know there's nothing you can do about that. Going out without me Will wreck our marriage real fast. I watched my mom go through that for years and years, and I am not. So if you really want to go, then go but don't expect me to wait for you when you decide to grow up and be an adult. Remember in California I couldn't pay you to take me out, now I can't pay you to stay home. I really enjoy going out, I do, but this every weekend crap is making me old and it's showing in my face. What's changed??"

He never did answer the question, but he did stay home and now we're planning a cruise the week of May 18th.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Now see Crissy, you reasoned with him in a calm voice, sometimes that gets to them more than if you got all strung out..not sure I'd like my hubby going out without me..guess I'm old fashion, that's the way it was in 'my' day..lol..don't I sound antique..

Are you not still going to Tennessee Crissy? did I miss the change in plans or are you doing both...a cruise..won't that put the fire back into your relationship..good for you...

Shar, pretty roses..because of the different zones, when would your roses be at their prime???

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Probably sometime in May and June, Betty, though they are in bud right now, so maybe earlier for a few of them. This is the one that I always look for first. It came from my great grandmother's home in the mountains a long time ago. It is a real climber, and covers a trellis and on up to my roof. I love it.

Thumbnail by Sharran
Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

And another view, same rose...

Thumbnail by Sharran
Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Old roses aren't as pretty as the newer ones to some, but I love the scent, also the sentiment because it belonged to my great grandmother, and because it used to live in the mountains. When I was little I made corsages with the blooms, dressed up in old clothes of my Grandma's and pretended I was in a wedding. My own??? Don't remember! This rose is wayyy older than I am.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Well we've always been teetering with the two vacations. He's been on 3 cruises and wants to take me on one, as I've been to Tennessee 3 times and want to take him. I'm leery about the cruise because I get motion sick real easy and hope Dramamine will work for 5 days straight! It works great for a day, so I figure it will. Since Tennessee vacations are not at a all time low and cruises are, I figured I would change gears and go on the cruise, we can drive Tennessee anytime. We enjoy doing the same things and have the same tastes for things so it doesn't matter what we do, we will both enjoy it.

Our anniversary is coming up too, April 22nd will be 3 years!

He shouldn't go out without me and I shouldn't go out without him, both ways are wrong.

Lyndonville, NY

Sharran, I love those roses, all are so beautiful. I have a new "project". I bought some rose cuttings from Melva, and I am making a rose/memory garden. I am praying the plants i have of Moms took, and I can incorporate them all together. I just love the old roses...the smell is just so much more powerful. I am looking for a special yellow rose...but can't find one I am in love with yet.

DH sent a text message at 4:48...he had just witnessed a horrific accident right in front of him....and had to stay for report....so will be home late. I just pray for those poor people involved.

Betty, Noah is going to be sore for days....that is a hard land for a little body. Did they tell him to take motrin or something? I hope he is icing that elbow also.

Glad you liked the birdy dance, I was laughing...and my tiels started whistling at the music. Poor little bald things don't have a chance of cuteness...but they love music.

Debbie

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

What a lovely thing to do, Debbie. Most all my gardens are memory gardens, because they all contain plants that I received from a loved one who is no longer with me. That's why I doubt if I could ever move away without having to take my entire yard with me. Memory gardens are good, and a rose memory garden is wonderful.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Debbie, how about a peace rose, they are yellow with a touch of pink on the edges!

Thumbnail by taters55
Victoria Harbour, ON

Love them all...Shar love the older roses as well..OMG look at the Peace Rose...

Crissy, you are right, probably a good time to do the cruise..you might be surprised, boats are so large that maybe you wouldn't be affected..

Debbie thank the Lord DH wasn't involved..will play on him I'm sure seeing it first hand..

Memory Garden..perhaps Caleb will make one for me as he grows older..as soon as I heard about the memory garden tonight it brought back something we spoke about on our trip..

The boys were eating pizza Saturday night about 11pm, we were gabbing and they were thanking me for bringing them on the trip, I said that perhaps one day when they got older they might consider taking me on a holiday..lol..Caleb said he would but doubted by the time he grew up I'd still be alive...

Out of the mouths of babes...

The other 3 all said, 'Caleb, that's not a nice thing to say to grandma' his reply, well she's already old and I'm young, that's a long time away isn't it?'

you got to laugh...

Girls just left..big day tomorrow...

Promised to lay flooring down for Suzanne, her bedroom furniture is arriving Saturday morning, so between tomorrow night and Friday night her bedroom floor has to be finished...no rest for the wicked...

While the girls were painting, I was pulling wallpaper border off the wall in the craft room..need to have it painted before next weekend so the flooring can be put down...always lots to do..

Here's what I chose today..I've 2 more rolls to bring home tomorrow and Friday..they say buy small cars but then you have to make 3 or 4 trips whenever you are shopping...

Must get some rest,
loved the flowers..thanks Shar and LindaKay..I can only dream to have such roses...

night/night

Betty, love that flooring. it will look real nice when you get it finished!
Amazing what little one will say. It is the truth, but still shocking when they say it!

Good night all.

When I was under five years old whenever my Aunt would pick me up and hold me I would play with her wedding rings...one day my uncle commented that when Deanie died I could have here rings. True to the form of small children I looked at her and asked "Deanie when are you going to die?"

For the past three years I have been wearing this second set of wedding rings..........

Thumbnail by zhinusmom
Lyndonville, NY

Oh Tater, that is a beautiful rose. I will have to look for it. The garden shop I like actually opens on the 18th.....so I just may need to make a trip Saturday.
The yellow is Moms favorite rose....and the pink always reminds me of her cheeks, she had the most beautiful natural pink cheeks I have ever seen.

Betty, you are going to be so busy....and sore! WOW, that is a lot of flooring to put down.

As for the accident, DH came in, and a bit shaken. He was seconds from being in the accident. It was only one pick-up involved. It came around the corner, back wheel went off into gravel, the man over compensated....back wheels started bouncing....and he rolled it, right into a tree. Truck is a total loss. The man had only minor injuries. DH took pictures with his cell phone...but I can't get them to enlarge. This is the only one that came out clear....the others are tiny thumbnails....but the drivers side of the door, totally gone.

Well, going to turn in. I have a trip to ROchester tomorrow....and the kids are still on Easter break.

Sweet dreams,
Debbie

Debbie, lucky man..amazing how in some crashes people walk away and you wonder how..you will find peace in gardening..off you go, find some pretties for that memory garden..

Trisha beautiful ring set, bet you'd rather have Auntie around than the rings but how wonderful that you were the recipient...

Just getting everything in order here, won't be coming home tonight..Suzanne will pick up supper and we'll get started..I'd have put it off if it were not for furniture being delivered on Saturday...

As for my project, if I get the room painting I'll be happy for this weekend...can't even think where I'll put everything in that craft room in order to lay the flooring...

It's gorgeous out there, might leave earlier and drop in for a few seconds at Bernie's...talked for about 5 minutes with him yesterday while on my way to work...maybe he has news from the insurance company..let's hope..

Hope it's sunshine in your neck of the woods...
Would be the perfect day to sit and enjoy our first real hot day...

It's been ages since I've posted. I've got a lot going on so I've haven't really been able to keep up with everyone. We went to Toronto a couple weeks ago when Keith had a conference there. It was fun (the hotel had a pool with waterslides) but quite hectic. Of course I went shopping and came home with way too many goodies. I'm glad I took an extra empty duffle bag and hiking backpack with me otherwise it wouldn't have all fit in the luggage for the train. It's a good thing I packed light going out too.

We've had a break from school this week for the spring hunt break. I was looking forward to getting a lot done around here but I've ended up babysitting for three days. Today's the last day of babysitting though, so I'm looking forward to the next few days. Everything is still covered in snow but it's been quite warm so it's been melting fairly quickly. It was sure interesting to see it go from green to white while driving from Toronto to Cochrane then taking the train to Moosonee a couple weeks ago.

Well, the baby's sleeping so I better get of the computer and do something useful.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning Karen, how nice of you to join us...I know I'll sound silly, but are these fat quarters for quilting or could they be newsletters...slap my fingers..should know right? I'm from the show me generation as well..

Take a comfy chair and join us..

I've been busy/busy this morning, have to get that chair and table set finished for the niece as I know as soon as gardening comes I'll not want to paint...if I soon don't get it done little Ariana will have children of her own..If I keep going at the speed I'm going the Miss bear will be done today..some paints missing but am sure I can tweek it at home...

Crissy, now where did you book the cruise for...omg they were saying that many Canadians and am sure USA citizens are in Mexico, company went bankrupt now all are being told to leave their hotel rooms, some have no funds, booked trip on c.c. card...what a pickle...

Crissy, it's in the 60's here today .. girls just came in from lunch against their will, said it was nice enough to visit the local beach...much the same for all week...

Tubby, absolutely adorable...you are always good for my morning and evening smile/laugh! What are you up to today...

LindaKay, did join the apron swap, p.j. swap, you don't have any I haven't joined do you? How's dad doing, settling in after his trip?

Best I go for lunch...
