Best/Worse &What did I learnt today/Chat with Friends #99

Victoria Harbour, ON

Watched fireworks and got to the hotel at 10:30..kids said they were hungry so I got out money, ordered 2 pizza's and off to bed I went..they woke me at 12:30 for a slice..no sooner was that done I was sound asleep..

Never stopped that entire day...

Told them we'd have to be up early in order to see all we wanted to see the next day..another 6am morning...couldn't believe without a word up the were, anxious to start out...

This time though because our vacation was cut short by one day we had to pack our bags, reorganize the car, that would take a little longer...

We had a hearty breakfast and off we went...

The boys truly wanted a closer look at the White House...I asked the deck clerk what street the White House was on..same as the hotel, we were north and White House was south on New York Avenue...within minutes we were there, hardly a soul however, no parking place for miles..so better just go around the block and let them see it at a closer view...now wouldn't you know there was a building, think it was an office building a few buildings away from White House that offered parking for 1 hr for $7.00..wow, bargain of the day..so a mere walk and there we were, taking photo's right in front of the White House..Secret Service vehicles were parked, Kyle couldn't figure out why they were there in the open if they were Secret..so it was explained by a serviceman that there are different divisions of the Secret Service...so we viewed some of the outer grounds and were ready for our next stop...

No more than 5 minutes later we were at Lincoln Memorial, my favorite place (been there several times) always makes m y heart skip a beat...by now traffic was getting quite heavy, tour buses arriving, we'd not be able to park nearby, so around the corner we went, had to wait for a vehicle that was trying to park in the tiniest of places to move on..he tried everything, why not we were no more than 200 ft. from the memorial..nope, regardless of how he tried to park he just couldn't make it, but guess what....Braedon stood on the sidewalk in the front of my car vision and Kyle on the back side..yes, we made it..how wonderful..so off we went..Mega photo's taken here as well..included in the overwhelming of the history of this place was the Korean War Memorial...I so want to post photo's of it...

There was a sound system company setting up for a big show that afternoon..starting at 3:00 ...we'd have to miss it because we had tickets for the Holocaust Museum at 2:30...the show was going to be an opera singer who was singing the songs of one of the first black singer entertainers who could sing inside of any building and who did concerts outside..was a memorial to her..sorry, can't remember her name..my apologies..would have been nice to see, dignitaries from all over Washington would be there..they were hinting that perhaps even Obama might make it...but, we were on a schedule so off we went..

By now it was about 10-10:30 and I could imagine how much traffic would be near the Smithsonian (?) Museum run...where we'd part who knows...well once again the Lord must have been looking after this grandma with 2 children, there in the middle of Museum row was a parking place...lucky us...

We walked about 1 block to the aerospace museum, kids were excited as they got to touch and so did grandma, rock from the moon...seeing they were good boys grandma bought tickets for a 3d show regarding fighter pilots and also for a simulation ride, that took up time..they would have loved to have stayed longer but it was time to have lunch and move on to the Holocaust Museum..ALL the kids were looking forward to this, a learning experience for sure...

We arrived and within 20 minutes it was our tour time...we were brought up into an elevator but made to look like a cement encasement, sounds of horror being played, given a card (booklet) with the name of an individual so we could follow his/her life..

My young man lived through the holocaust...he was in his 20's when he stabbed a guard, did it violently it said with each stroke of the knife saying 'this one is for my mother, this one for my father etc. etc' he managed to escape with a woman, they managed to hide out for the rest of the war and survived...

Caleb and Noah's person did not survive, Caleb's was a 12 year old, he was gased along with his brother and sister, mother and dad shot just prior to their death...

OOOOPS time to leave...

Be back with the rest of the story....

Hope you didn't mind my rambling...

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Sorry to be so long getting back to you Betty. Yes it was a glorious spring day here. The temps went into the 60s and was just perfect except.....Wednesday my DH raked and set rocks etc all day. Last night he said he wasn't feeling to good, achy all over. This morning he was still achy but actual pain in his chest. So off to the emergency room. They did a complete cardio workup on him and he is fine. However the doctor wanted to be extra thorough due his bout with cancer last year and wanted him to have a stress test as well. So we waited for four long hours before they could do it. Had to wait for the cardiologist to be free. Anyway, it was finally done and he passed just fine. The pain is all muscle related. To top this all off - today is his birthday!!! So out for dinner we go now knowing he is sore but healthy!!!!! Talk to you soon after dinner and I get a chance to read your posts. Barb

Really enjoying your stories of the trip Betty.
Thanks..

Betty so far sounds like you had a great time!! I'm enjoying reading everything. Have never been to DC so quite intrigued.

Well, my day has been very good so far, except for a huge muscle cramp deep in the muscles on my right hip. Dave got back from HD before I took a shower oops. He decided he wanted to build the first cement thing in front of the porch steps instead of in front of the room, which is fine, needs it worse there anyway. Here's what he has done.

Thumbnail by crissyr
Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

He did that while I mowed. Took me about an hour catching some rays on the mower. I was dumping the bags from my last load, got poked by something in my middle left finger, started bleeding all over the place, put the bag down, came inside, cleaned it and wrapped it in a bandaid, went back out to dump the second bag off the mower that was half full, the first was very full, moved wrong or something and the pain was so bad I couldn't breathe, burned from deep inside the muscle in my right hip all the way down to my knee and across my lower back. Somehow finished dumping the second bag, put it back on the mower, closed the lid over both bags and the first bag wanted to stick out of the lid which stopped me from securing it (I never have this problem.) Fixed it, secured the lid and painfully rode the mower back to the garage. The muscle is relaxing now but I can't stay down to rest it, it's so nice outside, no wind, overcast, about 70 degrees.

Here's a picture of the front of the house with the cement still in it's form.

That second pic wouldn't post ggrrr

Its raining now so I'm inside for the rest of the night.

LK you tell your Dad my Dad had a pacemaker put in about 5 years ago (he would have been 96 then) just to regulate his heart. When he checked in with the doctor this spring we found that he is depending on it 100%. The doctor wanted to change the battery in it, so in the hospital he went, even though he is now 101 yrs. old.. They decided to completly change the pacemaker to a smaller one. When I talked to him he said, "I guess they don't want me to live to be 107 as this one only has a 3 yr. battery". I told him if he needed to we would just change the battery again when he was 104! Dad lives in his own apartment in a retirement building. He is still very active and was not pleased when they told him he could not move his arm a lot until the leads for the pacemaker had grown over. That usually take 7-10 days. He has places to go and things to do! HaHa
All this surgery was done with a local anesthestic.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Wow! 101 years old and still going strong, that's awesome!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Well, we went to the Dr, and he explained everything in detail to Dad. Told him all the risk, and that it would help him, but so far he is still refusing the pacemaker! So we will just take everyday as it comes, and do what it takes to make him happy! So far, I found that he really likes rootbeer floats! LOL

Good night everyone.

You tell that Dad of yours this nice lady wants to dance with him, get that heart looked after and I'll find my way down there...

Crissy it will be lovely..so much work ahead of you but worth the effort once it's done..

You must have been terrified Barb..tell hubby 'happy birthday' for us will you..almost over so it might be a belated birthday wish...

Hi Carol, guess you had the same weather we did today..know where you spent the day..lol..how are your grandchildren doing?

Janice that's amazing..what a long lifeline, perhaps you'll inherit it..he's got quite the sense of humour as well...have you managed to pin point which sewing machine you want..

Tell Stacey she's in my prayers..

Off to bed, talk about exhausted..just got in from Suzanne's..got her bedroom floor done she and I and her hallway..DH was in so much pain .. had a broken back and just couldn't do anything tonight so he kept us company and we worked...

Aching all over..sat on the couch for 2 secs since I've arrived home...forgot my camera, will take a photo of her bedroom once the new furniture arrives, but when sitting on the couch took photo of my knees...am I sore...there was nothing to put my saw on so every time I cut a floor board I was kneeling on the floor as well as having to kneel when clicking the flooring in...

This old gal is too hard on herself..this I know..I keep thinking I'm a spring chicken but wow, too hard for me..even my wrists ache from clicking the flooring...

So off to bed, pain killers first..big day tomorrow and Sunday..Monday going to work I'll have a day of rest...

Happy Birthday Tubby.

Betty..ouch! those knees do look sore.
Thursday my friend Sheila and I started to clean up the Secret garden trying to get some the apples and leaves up. Yesterday there was an appt. and groceries..but I did a bit more raking. The mirror did not break over the winter..
The roses look like they all have some life in them, except maybe one.

Last night I went out to dinner with my eldest son and family to celebrate my grandaughter's finishing 4 years of university at UOIT and becoming an Registered Nurse. She also has been hired to start working at Lakeridge Health Oshawa..used to be called Oshawa General Hospital when you lived here. So very happy for her.

My eldest grandson and his girlfriend have bought their first house and will move in May.
So all is going well with the grandchildren.

I bought a little water feature for my deck..

Thumbnail by Starzz
Victoria Harbour, ON

OMG so much good news Carol..love the water feature..how proud you must be of your grand-daughter..congratulations to her and her parents..always a thrill to hear the youth of today take on the medical profession..much needed..and yes, it's the same hospital that I had my kidney surgery many moons ago..wonder if Dr. Doctor is still there..at the time he was best in his field...

It's nice that Sheila comes to help you..I can see by that beautiful water feature that you've been to our garden center right? lol

Glad the mirror and roses has survived this harsh winter...know I've lost a lot of shrubs..

Exciting time for your grandson, purchasing his 1st house...is it anywhere near where you live?

Knees are still sore, been up since before dawn, have to clean everything out of the craft room and that's a chore..just put away 6 - 6' tables, much to empty..

Darlene says if I manage to paint the room she and Mike will come tomorrow and lay the floor..

Meeting Diane at 9:30 to head to Barrie for Carol's open house..just know I'll register for the Poppy Adirondak chair, maybe a floormat, another class in graphite portraits then right back here to continue my work weekend..

Only good thing about that is the work I've planned inside should be done by the time I can be outside enjoy my gardens...I can focus in here since Cathy did all the raking and burning...

Break is over, much to do
Enjoy your day Carol...

Betty It will be nice once it's done, it's going to be awhile before that happens though. Oh well. Those knees look like 'kneelers knees'

Trisha I'm so happy about Uncle Rex! That is great news!

Carol great news there too! I'm trying to read back but now we're getting a thunderstorm so I best get off this thing for a bit. ggrrrrr

The Happiest of Birthdays to you Tubby. And many many more.....

Victoria Harbour, ON

Highlight of the day, put supper on, going to have a bath and JUST relax...

Darlene picked me up and off to Barrie we went..I registered for a daisy 3-d piece, portrait class, 3d cards on Saturday and a memory booklet for Melanie ..got to think Christmas..give me a smack..know you don't want to hear about it..

We picked up Diane, told her what I was up to, no sooner got home and both she and hubby DH arrived to help paint, as well Darlene stayed so rather than take me all day, I'm not a lady of leisure because of their help...

Took photo's while they were doing the first coat so you could see these lovely friends...

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Victoria Harbour, ON

Entire basement is a disaster...think Mike and Darlene might come tomorrow morning and help do the flooring...let's hope so I can spend the remainder of the day putting everything away...

Lordy it's quite a mess when you undertake a project such as this..can tell you one thing, I've much too much crafting supplies...

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Well it's been two hours and it's still thundering like crazy. I was just informed that I need 5 pair of shorts for the cruise, I only have two pair, so that means shopping shopping shopping!! I might go out if the storms pass in a normal amount of time, which doesn't seem so at the moment.

Betty I'm so glad help arrived! That always makes thing seem a little easier.

I thing those awful neighbors across the street in the trailer just moved out. Noticed he was carrying stuff in his truck over the past week, but they just drove their what looked like their permanently parked car away, it was full. I want to walk over there and see if their drapes are up in the windows and their dogs are still there, but not right now lol

Victoria Harbour, ON

Always nice to get to shop Crissy...your vacation will soon be here...omg are they finally moving out, the entire family..perhaps you'll get nice neighbors next time..

Could the storm Crissy turn into something more than a spring storm? let's hope not, know how you fret...hubby home today and tomorrow?

Ann just dropped in, nice visit, she couldn't believe she'd find me at 4pm, on the couch, in my jammies having a nap..first thing she wanted to know is if I will ill...lol

While Ann was visiting Darlene called to say that Mike will be coming over with her in the a.m. - they are going out tonight so she said it won't be 7am but they'll be here early morning and hopefully lay the floor..that's quite the weekend project..now that the paint is drying it's turning mid value grey..

Then Suzanne just called, just delivered her furniture, she called to thank me for the work I did the last 2 days, wanted to take me out for dinner....not in this lifetime, I'm too comfy right on that couch...

Phone rang as I was typing this, Greg is playing hockey tonight, Melanie gone to a girls outing..Kyle wants to go to the arena and watch his dad play but Noah wants to spend the evening with me...all that said, he'll be sitting watching grandma sleep I'm sure...

Have to run into Home Depot first thing in the a.m. and purchase baseboards to finish the project before I put everything back..

Sometimes I thing I've lost it, doing so much in one weekend, Ann said it took her 3 months to get done what I've done in 4 days...this little energy bunny is losing ground today...

If I don't get back to you all enjoy you afternoon and evening...

Tubby, are you out celebrating????? no jokes today...

Glenview, IL

Hi, glad I popped in really quick!!

Happy Birthday Tubby!!!
Hope your day is grand.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

LOL Betty with that slum lord in that run down trailer, I doubt it. We keep hoping for a single person to move in. It's just the man, his girlfriend, and his daughter's boyfriend who is way into adulthood, probably 25ish and rides a bicycle. Oh and the two dogs.

Oh yea, the storms can always turn into something severe if the conditions are right. So far they haven't been and the storms were just thunderstorms. I've noticed Kansas and Louisiana are getting hammered today. You can tell by the feel of the air too, right now it's too cold for tornadoes.

Oh good grief, I'm on the phone with my mom again, Poor mom, she's such a worry wart. She has a 2006 fully loaded Ford Escape All Wheel Drive that has 65,000 miles on it and she's almost in tears over having the money to fix it "If" it breaks. Who said it was going to break, they have 3 cars plus a motor home. Her nerve specialist who did her surgery 3 1/2 months ago gave her a firm diagnosis on why she has part of her pain. That scares her because no one has ever said that before. I reminded her that technology has changed over the past 20 years, she said that has nothing to do with it, there's no way he can research information like that, and she's going to her chiropractor for a better diagnosis because he's felt her nerves (never mind her nerve issues are on a complete different part of her body, and a chiropractor can't adjust there.) I told her that a chiropractor adjusts the tendons and vertebrae that are "out." She said she knows that but Her chiropractor is a Chiropractic Physician. So? The nerve specialist went in and did 4 1/2 hours of reconstructive work on her. Now her chiropractor is going to know more about her nerves than the nerve specialist will? Ye yey yey She gets so shaken up about it she goes loony. And he might not have diagnosed it right, but give the guy a chance, a chiropractor isn't going to be able to diagnose that simply because they don't look at that part of the body.

Enough of my stress argh

Ames, NE(Zone 5b)

Hi All went to DGDs first communion..Then off to Godfathers Pizza..We had a very good time Love picking a the Gks..Told them they were out of pepperoni..Oh boy were they wound up,wanted to go somewhere else to eat Hee Hee!!!! Best was I even had DDs believing me...They should know me by now..LOL

Thank You All for the Birthday wishes..
And of course I have a joke...

It's getting to be that time of year, so this might be helpful

WINDEX

KEEP THIS IN MIND AS YOU ARE DOING YOUR CLEANUP CHORES.

New use for Windex

I haven't checked ' snopes.com ' to see if this actually
Works or not . . . But they say,

If you ever get the sudden Urge to run around naked,
You should sniff some Windex first.

Glad you had a good day Tubby!!

Pastor Jan loved the one about the worms!

Think I'm going to play with some clay for awhile.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning,

How cute Tubby..glad you enjoyed your birthday, nothing like spending it with loved ones..

Trisha what creations are you making? Where will Laura and yourself sell your wares..e-bay?

Crissy did you survive the storm..has you mom been back or final assessment with her surgeon? Maybe this time sweetie you will get a lone person moving next door...now how is your neighbor doing, has she decided to stay where she is, has he left?

Noah is upstairs sleeping, I'm here seeing what can be put together before Mike and Darlene come..not sure if I should be putting shelves back up and loading them, would hate to have Mike /Darlene or myself hit my head on them but it would get rid of a lot in the hallway..still have the electrical covers to put on before deciding..

Rained last night, just went out and looked at the gardens, coming along nicely just no flowers but that's to be expected until late May/early June...

Not sure what the weather will be today, no sense worrying about that, I've enough to keep me busy till bedtime..

Enjoy your day, sure hope it's filled with sunshine..

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

My last post for a while, I check in tomorrow at 6:AM to the hospital. Prayers, please, for pain management!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Lots of prayers for you Audrey. For a successful surgery, for a quick recovery, and for little to no pain! Just be tough, you have been through this before, and just remember to force yourself to get through the therapy, and movements!
The worse part I had to do, was straightening my leg out!
Sending big (((((((((((((((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))))))))))) too!

How about a pretty orange rose. Just opened this morning!

Linda Kay

Lyndonville, NY

Linda Kay, would you happen to know what kind of rose that is (besides an orange one?). I am causing great issues with this new rose garden I have mentally planned. LOL I did find a Peace rose....they are getting new shipment in...just waiting to get the area prepared for my new projects!

Doe, saying prayers for your surgery and pain management. I don't post here lots....but read almost daily.

Betty, don't over do it today...you have worked your tail end off this weekend! I was up in Amherst yesterday....the Christmas Store was so packed, I didn't even try to go in! Still looking for "Prom shoes" with DD....and since she is paying for them...she is being quite particular.

Debbie

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Debbie, I wish I knew. I don't know much about roses. I only have 4 of them, and when I see a pretty one, I pick it up. I do know it is not a climber. Just a rose bush! Sorry, I can't be any more help. It was bought at Wal-mart I think 2 years ago. It came in the little plastic bag, wrapped around it, for like $5.00.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

My mom is supposed to fax her surgeon once a month with her progress, there's no way she could make a trip to Minneapolis, she can barely ride laying down in the back seat for more than 20 minutes. She's just getting impatient and wondering if she'll ever be out of pain, plus I'm sure she's bored off her gourd, but the dr said the surgery may not help and it might get rid of 100% of her pain, but it's going to take 2 full years for that nerve to move back to where it's supposed to be, it's only been 3 1/2 months. She's not a positive person and dwells on the negative all the time, always has, and that's why I have such a problem, I've always had a problem with that. Like her car, why stress over what "could" happen, the "what if" scenario. She's so sure that the dr can't diagnose things by research but she does it all the time and he has far more resources than she does. I just don't understand.
Next door neighbors are doing fine, I talked her in to joining DG, boy did I create a monster!

Audrey prayers for pain management are being sent your way hun.

Man, Dave cleaned the bathrooms and vacuumed while I swept and mopped just a few minutes ago, now my hip is all cramped up again. ggrrrrrrr

Victoria Harbour, ON

Audrey, will be praying for your needs, hope you have someone who will come home with you for awhile to give you a chance to mend..how long do they normally keep you..is there someone who could post for you so we know you are ok...

Debbie, your telling me to take it easy today, was it just words or did YOU pray for that...lol..Mike and Darlene got here around 9:30 ready to give me a new floor, Mike also brough a piece of baseboard wide so that I'd know what to go look for at Home Depot today..

I had purchased 2 - 20' rolls and 2-8' rolls...picked one up each day till all were home..small cars don't carry much..

1st row took the time, so many cuts but between Mike and Darlene it was done to a 't' as per the order...now comes the 2nd roll..wouldn't you know...when I went to pick it up they told me that they had to open a new roll as they were just 5' short of what I needed..think when they gave me the roll they must have given me the wrong one, in fact I'm sure of it...so, now Mike says leave it till tomorrow when I can exchange the roll, we'll continue putting down the 2' pieces, then he'd come over one evening and put the replacement roll down..I'm fine with that...

We roll out the 8 piece rolls and Darlene notices that the piece that's down is a semi-gloss finish and the pieces are 'matte' so can't put them down...now if I hadn't paid top dollar I'd say who cares, because it's just for my painting room...so tomorrow off I go again to see what can be done...not mad just so sad that the project couldn't be completed, that I could put everything back in the room and call the weekend a success...

You should see my basement den, laundry room and woodworking shop, total kaos..I do not like untidiness and now I have to live in it and cancel painting for Monday and Wednesday...drats..

Mike and Darlene are off to Midland so they will pick up and deliver all the baseboard..she just bought a gallon of semi-gloss white so I'll drive over to their house (20 minute drive) to pick it up and then spend the rest of the day painting the baseboards..

Then Darlene wanted to know if we had to put the door into that craft room as it's never closed..told her not necessary as I'm putting a door into the furnace room which does both, now Mike doesn't like to do things half &^U so, he's putting new door casing and trim to finish the project...

Trisha, do love that rose..I know nothing about roses either, just purchase them but they never do well, won't get me though, will buy a few more..eventually one or two will take...

Debbie, girls keep saying we've got to cross the border soon to visit the Christmas Tree store..this time though, we're taking someone's vehicle that has a large trunk capacity...

When it graduation....still time to find those special shoes? Cool here today but sunny, is it much the same for you?

We had 70+ degrees yesterday and I worked in the garden. Boy am I glad I planted all perrenials becasue my knees just wont take the work anymore. The gardens are looking good and right after I got all the garden clean up done my lawn guy came to do my total Spring cleanup. I have him rake the lawn, pick up limbs, trash, and put down spring fertilizer and grub pertection. He takes away anything I have and blows everything so it looks clean and fresh. I love him; he is a local teacher that does this on the side. Wife, two small kids and his brother helps when he needs him. I'd rather have him than a service, he is always there and will do little jobs I don't have the strength to do and most times wont take any money for it. He said I had done a good job of getting ready for him.
I told him about DG! His wife wants to start a new garden at their place and I told him all about what we have to offer in terms of help. Hope she checks in.
