LOL I too phone home to check on the 'babies' in the GH when I'm travelling.
heheheh glad to hear Im not the only obsesive one around hahahah
both look nice Bill
i have planted 5 ilex in the bed and have a ton of perennials that i've winter sowed that need to grow a bit before planting. and there is more stuff in the mail as they say. all are scheduled to ship this week i believe.
My feeling of accomplishment now gets satisfied watching your work!
WOW, that patio is looking great! Love the new bed too, makes me want to get out and do something...but of course it's raining soooooo
Patio looks great, Bill!
Very nice d-nut...love that trellis
and then I had a refreshing beverage and contemplated building a wha wall underneath the artsyfartsy thing rather than stackstone.
The side view of the patio gives me a broader appreciation for the size of this project. but, I think there may be some 'helpers' that come in the night to make beds magically appear as if there was nothing to it. I am amazed. Do you just rototill the grass under or desod it first?
jan23, my question exactly about the sod. We lifted ours for my new bed. Not fun. I don't dare get a rototiller or I would be digging up the whole piece of property. We have done too much already and I take most of the blame.
Wha, needless to say I like your new brick terrace. Ours is now 26 years old, made with left over bricks from the building the house. But we had a lady landscaper do it. Yours is going to be wonderful Still love ours. Patti
Patti, looking at the whole bed, I definitley need to rethink tulips. Now that I know I have to protect them, I may be more successful. That bed is BEAUTIFUL!!!
thanks all - very funny Dave.
i over did this one - if i had measured how much brick i had i do not think i would have started. need to order another 100 sq. feet worth. these boston city pavers are $$
as for the bed and sod. i just flip it over and put an extra layer of dirt over that. there will be some grass that grows through - i just weed it out 2-3 times and that is usually it. the dirt and compost i had delivered will grow all sorts of weeds anyway so there will be some major weeding to be done. really not that big of a deal and as long as you get it early it goes fast.
that bed i built is all from the edging i did this year and some sod from the patio that was not used to build the bed in front of it. backyard is almost all paths now!!
nice arch d-nut - i've been staring at the plow & hearth catalog looking at the arches they have for two years! Maybe next year before the steps to the patio?
Leftover bricks from the Big Dig, Bill??
i wish!! with my luck i'd be front page news for stealing while the real crooks got away with murder here.
My 7 year old said, 'There's a lot of red in Boston', when we visited a couple of weeks ago. He was referring to all the brick buildings!
Good work d'nut. It looks good.
Patty, that is beautfull!
Patti I am really enjoying all your wide shots.
love the look of red brick
that look just perfect cant wait till my place gets organized and set up in sections
David, you mean instead of feeling like a lazy so-and-so from looking at Bill slave away, I should just get a vicarious sense of accomplishment? Very interesting approach. I shall take it under advisement.
ok i was going to build another bed today for some jm's that need shade - i did not build the bed - instead i dug holes and made sure there were no roots around to steal water.
hope that makes everyone happy and i apologize if those watching the pics did not "get a vicarious sense of accomplishment". the peaches and cream jm looks great btw
pics will follow in a few days after this little task is done.
wow great work looks great it is amazing how many idea a person can get from surfing this site, my list is growing every day hahhahahaha
Just catching up here ...
Bill ~ awesome inspiration, as usual.
Patti ~ I 'lifted' the photo of your area with the gorgeous tulips for a future project. I just want the photo for inspiration, not for posting anywhere else.
The gazebo restoration project is on hold for a bit while our 'foreman' takes a much-needed vacation. He builds like we garden! Our town is nestled in the hills of New Hampshire. The name is Nelson, which is just northeast of Keene. I know you've driven through there, Patti. I bet you may have even passed the off-ramp that's a mile from my home!
The togetherness of this community does make it a very special place to live. We enjoy being here very much.
Candyce, you are welcome to them. Way more to come if the sun ever comes out and it stops raining. I am repaired from the marathon planting and ready to go at the garden again.
We have 25 yds of mulch arriving, now on Sat instead of today, due to the weather. We have hired a couple of guys to help put it down early next week. I have to finish edging the beds and the final bit of weeding.
Now I have to go meet the steamship and fetch a snowbird home to the Island, then out to the garden as it looks like it may be clear for the afternoon. I am going to cancel going to a dinner party tonight as I am planning on being exhausted from the yard work! Optimistic of me. Plus DH has to play in a hockey game tonight so I was going to have to go solo, boring. Patti
I can't say I have been to Nelson ever, but very close often.
25 yards of mulch - wow
just had 10 dropped off big pile
Thank you Patti.
