Spring Bulbs - What's Blooming? IV

Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

Oh Donna! You Chionodoxas look fabulous. Perfect in fact :-) I never thought I would like the white ones but yours are terrific. I am so glad to see your spring bulbs popping up - be sure to post pics of your "Mount Hoods" when they bloom en masse!!!

Wonderful yellow and red tulips you have, Sherry. very nice!

^_^

Thank you, you adorable people. Chionodoxas fooled me too. I started out with the pink ones and thought I'd add a few white, but the white ones really pop and they multiply very nicely by what appear to be offsets. I thought I didn't put in enough but they surprise me every year by expanding.

Mount Hood has already expanded since this morning and I'll continue to send images. It's so nice to be able to send pics.

Donna: I'm making note of the white Chionodoxas for fall.

Bea: what is the yellow with red picotee edge? Beautiful!

Lovely bulbs, all.

hemophobic..I think it is Jewel of Spring from John Scheepers.

Here is the link...but it is sold out. Maybe it will be offered again this fall.

Checked on the new design as the sun was warm in that part of the yard. We are getting very close to full bloom and the transformation to pink!

The warm and sunny afternoon made all these May Wonders open up. What a bouquet! Wish I had room left to add more of these to my garden!

The Sweethearts really enjoyed the warm sun and opened up!

And the Corsage just glowed in the sunlight!

I love those sweethearts! I ordered them from VE but got something else. Nice but
not what I I ordered.

Leawood - I think the frittilaria need very good drainage. I have had good success with
all but the imperialis. I get all mine from Van Engelen but I'm going to have to try some
other sources.

My tulips are coming in now! I'll be posting pictures tomorrow.

Lea and Tammy: I also planted Fritilleria last fall and so far I have one blade of green, nothing else. I was so looking forward to seeing it. This is the first time I've planted them.

Dallas, OR(Zone 8a)

Tammy...got mine at John Scheepers. You may wish to try them. I have always been happy with my purchases from them. Always true.

Springfield, IL(Zone 5b)

Bea..that new design is looking lovely!

We had a nice sunny day here as well, not going to be so nice tomorrow, I am afraid.

I think these are 'hearts delight' and a species tulip..maybe 'persian pearl'?

The ice sticks are very unusual looking. I like those!

Springfield, IL(Zone 5b)

Thanks!
I got them from a co-op, and I must say, I am pleased!
They seem a little less orderly than, say a Darwin, but I have really fallen in love with the less formal, cottage-y style..

Oh.. forgetful me. I was just looking at some fall preorder items I have ordered from Brecks. Low and behold I ordered Ice sticks.
Yeah!! I also ordered 3 of these called Ice cream tulips. Can't wait for these!! So unusual. To bad they are pricey or I would have ordered more. Hopefully they will multiply over the years.

Some potted bulbs decided to bloom together!

Gemini...nice. How did you cold treat them? I'ld like some in pots next year.

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Thanks, David Paul. My basement stays in the 40sF through winter, so I just pot them and keep them there till spring.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Things are looking good everywhere! Crocus are finally opening.

Found that I do have some white Chionodoxa planted last fall, but they aren't blooming very well. Maybe they're not getting enough sun where I have them.

Here are seed pods on my blue Chionodoxa. Can these be planted out? At what stage are they ripe? I have some that are green, some this darker, almost purple color.

I just leave mine to drop where they are. I bet they darken before they are ripe.

well - I just ordered a few varieties of colchicum & fall crocus from B&B. I always
forgot 'til its too late.

Bea - John Scheepers is the same company as Van Engelen but just smaller
quanities. I think they got the bins mixed up a few years on sweethearts and
maybe cistulas? Anyhow - I'll wait til they die back enough to warrant pulling for
a new batch. I only have a few places to plant tulips... darned deer!

Tam

Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

LOL Tammy you are as bad as I am - I have already placed a couple of orders for next growing season as well.

Kannapolis, NC

I've just visited John Scheepers and so many of the varieties I've seen here are sold out. Can this be so early in the season? Or will they be stocked for fall orders?

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Shame on you Hemophobic! You said the 'f' word :O

Kannapolis, NC

I know, I know, Dahlia! This site is so bad for my wallet, but so very good for my garden. And seeing the success others have with various plants just feeds my addiction(s)!

Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

Hemo, I don't think their 2009 catalogue is on line yet - I just looked yesterday and it still showed 2008. Maybe by June or July? I buy from them every year. BTW, your "Shirley" tulips are beautiful ^_^

Dahlianut, congrats on your pretty crocuses! I am glad to see you've joined the bulb show!
