They are mossless. I would like one of their chickens though.
Stones, rocks, boulders and erratics 2009
Wow, Audrey! That is a beautiful shot of a gorgeous place!! Nice to see you posting! How are things out west???
Patii - the key with the moss recipe is to keep it moist for awhile. I had good luck with it. And, Karen, you are right - it probably won't work in full sun, but it has worked on my brick patios that get partial sun. In fact, I've had to rip it all off of the granite grinding stone around our ancient well that is part of our back patio. It got out of control there, and it gets quite a lot of sun there. If you can plant Irish moss in that area, this is a way to multiply your moss significantly.
Susan - (formerly known as Nancy..LOL!) I think it depends on the conditions. When I tried it, it was during a wet spring like the one we're having now.
Victor - behave yourself! Keep the beer and use the buttermilk!! LOL
Ooof, can't even think of fall when the weather is just starting to warm up into the 70's here, but that is a gorgeous shot. Do you live near there?
Beautiful!!! But YIKES that's hot.
Its a bit toasty all right! I get "cabin fever" in the summer!
drumlin, we live 2 hours south of Sedona.....
Great shot, Mrsj! Have you ever hiked anywhere around Superstition Mountain? I have hiked that area many times. Did the Peralta Trail, Hiked up to the plateau on SM. Did the Upper and Lower Creek trails, and also hiked the Massacre Trail. I think I liked the Upper and Lower Creek Trails best, though the Peralta Trail sure has an awesome view of the big rock formation known as 'something' Needle (name escapes me at the moment).
Don't envy you the heat. Last week we had one day that was in the low 90's. Humidity was the same as AZ that day at 14%. I don't mind that kind of heat when the humidity is that low, though once it gets in the 100's I don't like spending a lot of time outside. When I lived there I used to hike either early in the morning or late in the evening. Still hot, but not as much. I remember it didn't get lower than in the 80's at night during the summer.
Karen
Oh, I thought there was a way to do it in DG when posting.
Karen
Great stone stories! And Louise, thanks for the moss recipe.
Anna is promising to help me with my rock shade garden tomorrow, if the weather holds. I can't wait to get up in the morning!!
You are welcome, Candyce. What do you have growing in your shade garden now? We have just started one by default near the large erratic behind Cuppatea where the grape vines had taken over. Hank got tired of looking at all the leaves caught up in the grapevines, so he cleaned it out and tilled it and now I have a good spot for my caladiums and EEs. I planted those today, but there's still a lot of room in it. The neighbor dog "watered" most of the coleus I put in it, and they aren't doing very well now.
