Thought i would re-start the stones, rock, boulders and erratics thread for 2009.
Here is a pic of a HUGE rock wall that i drive by on my way to work. this is almost 5' high and 7' wide. i watched them build this section in the winter of 2007 - they did "cheat" and use heavy equipment. the wall goes down the road 2 more telephone poles past the one in the picture. and the driveway is over a 1/4 mile long with a wall on each side the same size.
Stones, rocks, boulders and erratics 2009
and this is one of my favorites - if i could get this to my home i would be one happy camper - it is on 2A in Concord and on the historical battle road from Lexington to Concord. Look close at the rock behind the first one - it is half in the dirt - local legend has that the colonist "carved" this rock in the shape of a hand which is flipping the bird at the red coats!!
well-----i might be making that last bit up:) it looks it to me though!!
Too funny, Bill.
After seeing the rock from yesterday's hike, I knew it wouldn't be long before we had a resurrection of this thread. Love it.
lol....we don't have many rocks around here to take pics of.
Concord rock looks like a tortise to me. Nature in a natural setting.
Cool rocks! None around here. Victor, yours reminds me of a dog's head out the car window. I see the bird in yours Wha!
That is really wild Victor!!!!
Yes - it blew my mind.
Since we read Hawthorne's The Great Stone Face, in 8th grade in the midwest, I didn't know about the old man then.
That is awesome Victor.
This rocks! Patti

Only if you tried to move them. Patti
Quilter5bdsr, I am so bad! I drive that stretch of road at least once a month. I've never seen the 'mini'. I'll have to look really closely next time I drive. Is it easy to spot?
As you go South, look at the side of the road as you approach mile marker 39.4. It goes by quickly so be careful if you slow down. The actual rocks are just past the marker sign but the profile is viewed from just before the marker. I sometimes actually pull off the highway just so I can stare!! Check out marker. Barb
Pulling off the highway on 89 is not my idea of fun. Usually, I'm speeding up so that I can make sure I hit the left-hand exit to route 9!
Candyce, this is on the Southbound side of 89. In between Grantham and Sunapee. When my DH had to go to Lebanon every week, we went by this. It is between Exit 13 S and 12A S. If you are only on 89 between 202/9 and Concord then you are way far too south to see it. I know what you mean about going north though and trying to stay in the left lane for exit 5. Everyone wants to pass on the left and we need to stay there ourselves. Oh well, my premise is if I'm in that lane ahead of you, you will follow or go around me on the right. I'm not moving!!! I really can't understand why they made an exit on the left side anyway. Have a great week.
Ahhhhh!
That explains it. Now I must take a road trip because you have tempted me to see 'Mini Man'. Besides, I absolutely LOVE the Lakes Region.
Cool rocks! Love Mini Man, Quilter!

Glad you like him Karen but I sure do miss the Old Man. He was so unique....
He sure was. Just goes to show that nothing is permanent. Well, except for maybe toxic waste and plastic.
Karen
And death and taxes!!!!
Oh, yeah, forgot about those 2 things!

Legal or illegal??
I was telling my sister Dawn in Alaska today about that man building his own Stonehenge, and she told me about the Coral Castle in Florida. Here's a link to a You Tube video on it. Pretty interesting. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=amXsPcD7g5g

Gotta show this to Jeff, I think he would appreciate it. I think they should call it 'Wallyhenge'
Inrteresting about coral castle
Yes, isn't that interesting? And he did it all by himself. Amazing feat.
Today I went for a long walk with one of my clients at Wompatuck State Park in Hingham, MA. What a gorgeous place! Next time I go I will be bringing my camera. There are so many beautiful rocks, erratics, boulders and such there, many with moss and lichen all over them. I was kicking myself for not having my camera today.
