True, Victor, but thankfully, I can think of more people who are good at heart than those who aren't. Many of those are right here on DG!
Stones, rocks, boulders and erratics 2009
True, but I would probably steal Bill's!
What the heck.....you'd feel right at home in the clink!!
Working that rock pile...
now you are on thin ice!!
Hee, well, my neighbor is a little "different", very nice, but tends to find a way to get what she wants one way or the other. I have some rocks I spent $20 on from the garnet mines in upstate New York (yes, I know, but they really are cool) so I make darn sure that they are tucked far away from her eyes. I placate her most of the time by giving her granite and marble slabs that I get for free from a kitchen counter manufacturer (love that dumpster diving!). Not quite the same, but she likes them. Protection payment, sheesh!
I think it's time to slip in an off-hand comment in her presence about how you must keep misplacing your rocks! LOL
Horrible that anyone would steal rocks that are obviously being used! For shame! I just recently purchased 2 tons of blasted granite. Had it dumped by my driveway, in full view of anyone passing by. I certainly hope there are no people around here with sticky fingers!
Karen
address?
Sorry, not giving it out. LOL!
Karen
Just drive around Halifax looking for a house with a load of granite in the driveway.☺
You'll have to take roads that are off the beaten path!
Karen
Wha, Karen has a plant stand, so I think she will be easy to find. Pick up a few plants and a ton of granite on the way out. No problem for a rock guy like you, though you car's trunk won't hold much.
Karen where are you using the granite that Wha doesn't swipe? Patti
I'm using it for making paths through my gardens and stepping stones. My brother was over on Monday and stacked it up into a temporary wall with all the wood chips from my pile spread behind it. He took some of my potted plants and sunk them into the wood chips to make it look like a new garden behind the wall. LOL! It will look nice till I can get it used up. No longer looks like just a pile of wood chips and rocks.
Here's a pic of my rock walkway through one of my beds that I'm working on. I have more to do, and I'm going to be putting creeping type plants between the stones. I bought some Irish moss and I have elfin thyme that I want to use.
Karen
Karen, very pretty. Those paths will look great! I have to do something like that. I've finally learned that you can't always just step around things in a wide garden. I look like I'm playing Twister sometimes! Right hand blue.....ahhhhh!
LOL! Drumlin, I know just what you mean! And thanks!
Karen
Awesome, Karen. I wish I could think of the "recipe" for moss between the rocks. I had it years ago and used it on my back patio and it worked great. You make a mixture by taking some moss and putting it in the blender with something liquid... hmmmm, could it be yogurt?? I can't remember what all goes into it. Then you liquify it and pour it wherever you want the moss. It works just great, and it is very cost effective if you have several areas where you want the moss.
Buttermilk??
Yeah, that might be it, and you can make your own buttermilk by adding vinegar to milk, I think. I'll see if I can find the recipe. I think you have to add water too? Just not sure.
Ahhh, found it.........put a clump of moss (the less dirt on it the better) into a blender and add either a cup of yogurt or a cup of buttermilk or a can of beer plus 1-2 teaspoons of sugar. The ratio should be one part moss to 4 parts liquid. Blend it until it forms a thick soupy liquid. Pour over the area where you want the moss. Don't let it dry out completely and moss will begin to grow.
Not sure I could sacrifice a perfectly good beer.
Or perfectly good moss, for that matter.
Can 'recycled' beer suffice???
eeewwww
Victor, I agree with Allison, eeewwww!
Just trying to be green!
not green ... yellow
Hee hee.
Wow, that's kind of cool though. That would look great between the flagstones...hmmmm. How long does it take to ....take?
Well, I couldn't do it on my path, as moss likes the shade, and that's in full sun. But I have other gardens in the shade where moss is growing naturally, and I have been trying to encourage it more. One thing I've learned about moss is you can't let anything cover it, like leaves and such. You have to keep it clear.

it's beautiful out the mrs.j
Gorgeous! I have been there a number of times and would like to go again. I lived in Mesa area for 4 years. I loved AZ. Anything more you have from Sedona I personally would love to see.
Karen
Wow - what a postcard shot, Audrey!
Dh did the moss mixture two years ago and not much happened. He had fun though trying. Patti
WOW that is a beauty shot mrsj. I tried to make moss. It was really stinky when the buttermilk soured. I can't believe that people are stealing rocks! That better NOT happen to my rocks! I always ring the doorbell and ask if I can have a rock even if it's obviously not in use. Of course the farmers who don't like rocks in their fields think I'm very, very strange.
Maybe you can ask them for their moss too.
